As some of you may be aware, Seungri was recently released from prison after serving a criminally short sentence of just 18 months for the commission of 9 crimes ranging from economic (financial) crimes, crimes of violence, and sex crimes.

That's right. Sex crimes.

In his sentencing hearing in August 2021, at the conclusion of the first trial in the Lower Military Court, just before he was whisked away to prison, the judge explained to Seungri that he would be subject to "registration of personal information related to sex crimes." See below:

This was not widely reported, or even given much attention, with most of the media's focus being on the 3-year prison term and accompanying fine related to gambling. (Surprisingly, it did make it into Soompi's coverage, but I've reached my image limit on this post so here's a link to the report instead.)

Side note: as expected, his stans did not discuss this openly (or at all), and even their big "trusted translator" accounts either glossed over it or omitted it from their translations altogether, so many of his international supporters were unaware.

In the second trial with the High Court (first appeal), in which Seungri pleaded guilty to all charges (except for habitual gambling which he appealed again, hoping to lower it to "occasional" gambling, a lesser charge... he was unsuccessful with that, by the way), the court granted him leniency, cutting his prison term in half and forgiving the nearly $1 million fine. A generous reduction in punishment simply for saying, "I'm guilty, I'm sorry, go easy on me."

At the time, I couldn't find any information on whether or not the registration requirement for sex crimes remained in place. Even after the Supreme Court finalized everything in May of last year, there seemed to be no mention of it.

Now, however, days after his release from prison and return to society, we finally have confirmation:

In short, Seungri is a registered sex offender required by law to submit (and keep current) his personal information to the authorities. He must also return each year to the local police station having jurisdiction over his home address and have updated mugshots photos taken -- once a year, every year, for the next 15 years. To put this into perspective, they'll be keeping tabs on him until he's in his late 40s.

So, yes, his information is registered. However, at the judge's discretion he was exempted from disclosure. This means his personal information (such as home address) will not be available, i.e., publicly searchable, on South Korea's online sex offender registry. Police will have access to this info. The public will not.

What was his violation of the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes? Well, we knew he had been charged with distributing some form of illegally filmed sexual material, also known as hidden camera footage or molka. It was described as being a photo of women, in bed, naked -- and, importantly, photographed from behind, which raises the question of consent.

Seungri admitted in 2019 to sharing something in a group chatroom, as there was chat evidence of this that could not be disputed. However, he challenged the notion that he'd taken the photo himself, claiming he'd received it from someone else. He later took it a step further and disputed the nature of the photo altogether by trying to pass it off as a "business advertisement" sent to him in a "spam text message" from an employee of an adult entertainment business. For publicity purposes.

The court rejected his excuse explanation for the photo and deemed him guilty of distributing illegally filmed footage. But as for who took the photo, whether it was Seungri or someone else, the court's decision didn't seem especially clear to me... until now, thanks to JTBC recently reporting details from the ruling:

The KKT chat log, made public in 2019, did not support Seungri's claim. The testimony of other members of the chat, when questioned in court about the photo they received from Seungri, did not support it either.

So much for his fans' stubborn insistence that he "wasn't in the molka chats." Thanks to the chat evidence, court docs from Jung Joonyoung's ruling, and Seungri's own admission in an interview with Chosun Ilbo, we've known for years that Seungri not only knew about his friends' molka habits but received such things from them directly and even reacted to them with amusement (laughter). Now, with the detailed results of Seungri's court proceedings before us, we can be certain that he took part in the practice too.

I am liking Call It Love way more than I expected from the initial trailer. This drama is quite pretty. It certainly isn't as depressing as the trailer made it out to be. I'm intrigued by our lead couple and how this love story might unfold. It's nice to see Lee Sung Kyung in a more serious and down-to-earth role.

I am in love with the lead couple and most of the cast, yet here I am absolutely flabbergasted by the murder mystery plot that has finally been revealed. To be blunt, this part of the story falls very short and makes little sense to the rest of the drama. It's trying to balance too many genres at once. The murder mystery is distracting and absurd. I mostly resent these pieces of this drama since it takes away from the cute romance-y and found family moments. Last week's episodes were sorely disappointing.

I am always down for a historical gender bender. Parts of it give me some Love in the Moonlight vibes. It's a bit more serious in tone, and our Prince is super broody. Though I haven't seen much from Jeon So Na before, I appreciate the energy and spunk she brings to her role.

I love Da Jung’s storyline about her anchor dream and the struggle she has to achieve it bc of her age and status as a mother. I mean, it gets me SO FREAKING MAD but only bc it’s so realistic for so many women. I’m rooting for you bb

Oth I don’t care at all about her having so many suitors. It just seems a waste of time I’d rather spend on literally anyone else. Maybe have 1 as means to show she’s still desirable as a woman but 2 seems like pointless overkill. We all know how it’s going to end so I’m bored.

(Wi Ha Joon - the baseball player - is so hot though so at least my eyes are blessed even if my mind is bored lmfao)

I’ve never liked Yoon San Hyun as an actor tbh but luckily this is definitely a Lee Do Hyun train and I am ALL IN for him. Just one of the many fans after he stole every scene in HDL and love how this drama is forcing him to stretch his acting chops in so many ways. He has charisma for days.

Whilst the A-plot of the eventual reconciliation of our main leads is obvious, I’m looking forward to seeing the smaller plots play out too see if our family is led down any unexpected roads & lessons before the end.

Overall I’m enjoying it!! So far it’s smooth sailing, I won’t hype it or claim it a new favourite or anything but it’s ticking all the kdrama boxes in a good way so no complaints from me ^^

(Ps. The actor playing the school bully is the silent bodyguard from Nokdu right?? His eyes are distractingly pretty oml)

Kim Jinseo and Crystallis’ Jasmine to join the cast of ‘18 Again’

KIM JINSEO and CRYSTALLIS JASMINE will be joining Yoon Sanghyun, Lee Dohyun, and Kim Haneul in JTBC’s upcoming Monday-Tuesday drama ‘18 Again’! 

Based on the American film “17 Again,” JTBC’s “18 Again” is about a husband on the verge of divorce who suddenly finds himself back in the prime of his life, which was 18 years ago. The drama will be director Ha Byung Hoon’s first drama since KBS 2TV’s “Go Back Couple.”

On August 21, a representative from JTBC announced the casting and stated, “JASMINE will be playing Hong Siah, Hong Daeyoung (Yoon Sanghyun) and Jung Dajung (Kim Haneul)’s older twin daughter. Meanwhile, JINSEO will be portraying Goo Jasung, a basketball player who is classmates with Siah and her brother Siwoo. Both characters will undergo significant development as the series progresses.” 

JASMINE was last seen in the drama ‘Hotel del Luna’, which won her a Best New Actress Award, while KIM JINSEO was last seen in the hit Netflix series ‘Bullet Inquiry’. 

The cast and staff of ‘18 Again’ are set to have their first script read-through on August 28. The drama will officially premiere on October 2 and will air at 9:35 PM every Monday and Tuesday for 16 episodes. 

[ + / - ] didn’t they received acting awards? jtbc really hit the jackpot for getting two award winners in the same drama. i have high expectations for this drama!! [ + / - ] poor dohyun’s going to carry this show on his shoulders. if it wasn’t for his visuals, i don’t think anyone would watch this drama. the storyline doesn’t sound intriguing and their cast are a bunch of unpopular actors and idols.

March 2021 Kdrama Watchlist

Before getting into watchlist, here are kdrama i finished

1. 100% era (web drama)

It end with 8 episode..the ending was quite disappointed ..I expect for more dramatic instead of fast paced ending with ambiguous detail whether she with Sidae on the train..since its a webdrama..I'm ok with it

2.18 again

Yes..this was not included in last month watchlist yet..it ended in the same month..😅

I thought I watch 1 ep..end up watching the whole drama..and it was worth it..👏👏👍👍

Althought it's a remake but it was expand and become totally different drama..and I love lee do hyun characther it it😍😍😍

I almost drop it..but it redeemed itself for ep3 and 4..so really anticipate for what's going to happened.

2.Queen for 7 days ep4 (binge back)

I watch this before..just decide to binge it back since there's not much of kdrama that's suit my taste..😅
