Thinking about finally throwing all my FF7 meta analysis and lore deep dive stuff onto a sideblog. It'd be reblogged from here, but I'd be able to organize it a little better, have a directory so people could find things more easily, and maybe it'd stop people from regurgitating things I say word-for-word for brownie points when they can just find and reblog the fucking original post(s).
#fandom vent#this happens WAY more often than I talk about#like constantly#not daily#but if I put up a ramble#there will always be 2-3 people on the twits or here#who immediately start saying the same thing#in the same words#acting like they're the ones that did the analysis#and it's really frustrating#y'all know I actually do research on this shit?#I check my sources#I review the source material#I get alternate translations to be sure#I read real-life research journals for scientific stuff#I research dates and real-world events and natural phenomena and religious history etc etc etc#it's not just 'nashi writes 2k words of bullshit and hits POST'#I do actual research for my analyses and my deep dives#I cite my sources whenever possible#I don't LINK all the time because that can kick a post from the tags#but I don't just make shit up#so people grabbing it and running with it as if they were the ones that did the work to figure it out#is super disheartening#my current big research project is figuring out if Reeve's surname#is actually rooted in Gaelic#because it's such a weird name#and it's possible that it's not spelled right#because it may be Gaelic#this is a theory that has not panned out yet#but I've been researching it on and off for weeks

After two weeks of having almost nothing to do at work except read scientific papers, I think I've finally gotten over being scared of them. Actually, I think I'm starting to have fun.
And then I was doing writing research on a totally different topic and I went wait a second. I can read scientific papers on this. I'm not intimidated by them anymore - well, not much. Maybe a tiny bit, for the ones outside my field, because last week I tried to read a botany paper and oh dear god the jargon.
But I read a medical journal about chronic widespread pain, which I probably have, and it felt very empowering. I understood most of the important bits, googled the vocab when I needed to, and I learned some things that might be important. I read a paper where actual doctors were saying 'people can have mental illnesses and also pain disorders. this does not mean their pain isn't real.'
And it feels very revolutionary that I can just... do that. I can have access to the same information as experts in these fields, and I may not understand it as well or have all the context but it's something. Something I didn't have before.
#i never thought i'd say this but i'm enjoying a literature review god help me#and it does feel really important that i can read about my chronic health issues in the same journals as doctors might read#like the information is out there and i can find it and i may not understand all of it but i can get some things#it feels like evening out the imbalance of power that is doctor patient relationships. i know where the peer reviewed literature is and#that means i can fact check#i don't have to just assume/hope my doctors are competent. i can check what their colleagues are saying.#and i know it's kind of risky having information and not all the context to understand it but i feel so powerless and i need something#i read this paper that was basically saying 'just because someone has chronic pain and a mental illness does not mean#that the mental illness is the cause of the pain.' and god. that's such a big deal.#that's huge#and now if a doctor tries to pull that shit on me i'll know they're wrong because the peer reviewed research says so#i knew it anyway but now i can back it up#hylian rambles

Understanding Research Proposals: A Comprehensive Guide
Introduction
Research proposals are important documents in the academic and scientific community, which provide an outline of a research project. Whether you are a student starting out on a thesis or a seasoned researcher seeking funding, you must be familiar with all the ins and outs of drafting a research proposal. Let us explore what a research proposal is and its main components.

What is a Research Proposal?
In essence, a research proposal is a comprehensive plan that specifies the objectives, methodology, and importance of a given research. It provides an overview that helps researchers navigate their study properly. Treat it as a persuasive essay, which makes others believe in the value and feasibility of your research goal.
Fundamental Elements of a Research Proposal
1. Title: The title should be short but comprehensive, giving a clue about the research topic.
2. Abstract: This overview focuses on the main points of the research, such as its purpose, methodology, and possible results. It provides readers with a flavor of what the proposal will cover.
3. Introduction: The purpose of the introduction is to set the scene for the research by presenting relevant background information, stating the research problem or question, and explaining the importance of the study.
4. Literature Review: This section reviews current literature concerning the proposed study, which demonstrates an understanding of the current knowledge regarding the field. It supports the idea that the research is important and gives the theoretical basis for the study.
5. Research Objectives or Questions: Research objectives or research questions are well-defined and show what the study is interested in to accomplish or to investigate. These should be specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART).
6. Methodology: The methodology specifies the approach and the techniques that will be used to carry out the study. This involves issues like research design, data collection instruments, sampling methods, and data analysis procedures.
7. Expected Outcomes: This section should include the expected results and findings of the proposed research. It allows stakeholders to appreciate the possible impacts of the project on the field.
8. Timeline: A timeline or schedule is a breakdown of the different stages of the research project that shows when each task will be finished. This guarantees that the project is completed on time.
9. Budget: The budget section is important when attempting to get research proposals funded. It outlines the projected costs related to conducting the research, including for instance, expenditures on equipment, materials, personnel and travel.
10. References: References that support the proposal have to be included on the list. It is also an opportunity for readers to check the sources’ reliability and get an assurance that the information is reliable. Hence, it opens a window for more in-depth studies of the matter.
Conclusion
In summary, a research proposal is the blueprint or plan of the proposed research project. By incorporating fundamental elements like the title, abstract, introduction, literature review, methodology, objectives, expected outcomes, timeline, budget, and references, the researchers can properly communicate their research plans and secure endorsement from peers, funding agencies, and other stakeholders. The ability to articulate a solid research proposal is key to academic success and many other endeavors.

Successful Treatment of Extranodal Natural Killer T Cell Lymphoma Nasal Type Complicated by Severe Hemophagocytic Syndrome A Case Report
Successful Treatment of Extranodal Natural Killer T Cell Lymphoma Nasal Type Complicated by Severe Hemophagocytic Syndrome A Case Report in Biomedical Journal of Scientific & Technical Research
Extranodal natural killer/T-cell lymphoma, nasal type (ENKL) is a subtype of mature T-and NK-cell lymphomas characterized by its association with Epstein-Barr virus and extranodal involvement. It is frequently complicated with HPS, and prognosis is poorer in this situation. A correct diagnosis usually requires the histopathological examination. Here we report a case of 32-year-old man presented with a month-long high-grade fever, cough, chest pain and blood in phlegm. A chest computed tomography scan detected pneumonia-like features, including multiple variable nodules, groundglass opacities and patchy infiltration, which progressed rapidly. The patient was initially diagnosed with severe pneumonia and received a combination treatment of broad-spectrum antibiotics ,however the patient’s condition continued to deteriorate. Biopsy of lung and soft tissue confirmed a diagnosis of extranodal NK/T-cell lymphoma, nasal type. Bone marrow aspiration did not show lymphoma involvement. The patient had progressive neutropenia upon presentation, with further investigations showing hepatosplenomegaly, hyperferritinemia, hypertriglyceridemia, low natural killer (NK) cell activity and increased circulating soluble IL-2 receptor. We reached a diagnosis of hemophagocytic syndrome. Chemotherapy and immunotherapy were started leading to a progressive improvement of the disease.

Oh my God another high school classmate posting dumbass takes on FB about a clinical trial without knowing how to interpret clinical trials and their conclusions 😭 everyone who can put together letters and make them into words is an expert. It doesn't matter if they understand those words or not!!!
Except for the experts. They aren't experts. They're frauds. Their work proves it!!! /s
#banging my head against the wall#please take away the rights of news broadcasters to talk about research#without disclosing conflict of interest#or without explaining what the conclusions in a peer reviewed journal article means#or the difference between a peer reviewed article and a right leaning news source with some “study information”#tired of seeing shitty clickbait headlines like “vaccines cause liberalism and other brain disorders”

This doesn't even mention that it costs the authors who submit the articles thousands of pounds to publish in some journals!! You do all the work and pay for that with your grants, and then who pays for the publication? Well certainly not the PUBLISHER

#it's crazy given that journals can only exist because of researchers' work and writing!#all they do is coordinate the peer review process#and formatting#and admittedly curating#but it still seems really weird to me that you have to pay them thousands to let them publish your work#hmm#academia#studyblr

Awareness and Utilization of Emergency Contraception Among Female High School Students in Southeast Ethiopia
Awareness and Utilization of Emergency Contraception Among Female High School Students in Southeast Ethiopia in Biomedical Journal of Scientific & Technical Research
The long-established contraceptive methods including emergency contraception have not contributed adequately to stop the occurrence of huge numbers of unplanned pregnancies globally. Close to half of these pregnancies ended up in induced abortion and significant proportions of it are manipulated unsafely. Teen age girls in developing nations including Ethiopia are at increased risks. The situation is worse in the developing countries like Ethiopia and much worse in rural and sub urban areas. However, the gap in information has been affecting the interventions. Therefore, this study is conducted with the aim to assess the awareness and utilization of emergency contraception and associated factors among female high school students’ south-east of the Oromia region, Ethiopia. The study employed a cross- sectional quantitative using stratified random sampling technique. The overall data management and processing used sound statistical software for this purpose. Appropriate statistics were used to reveal statistical associations of related variables to the emergence contraception awareness and utilization. Ninety three percent of the study participants completed the questioners correctly. More than half of the respondent were in the age range between 13-15 years with the mean age of 15.46(SD +/-Majority of the study participants were from Oromo ethnic group. Less than half of the respondents had ever heard the existence of emergency contraceptives. Small proportions of sexually active respondents had used it.

There’s a scientific journal called “Get me off Your Fucking Mailing List”.
In 2005, computer scientists David Mazières and Eddie Kohler created this highly profane ten-page paper as a joke, to send in replying to unwanted conference invitations. It literally just contains that seven-word phrase over and over, along with a nice flow chart and scatter-plot graph.
An Australian computer scientist named Peter Vamplew sent it to the International Journal of Advanced Computer Technology in response to spam from the journal. Apparently, he thought the editors might simply open and read it.
Instead, they automatically accepted the paper — with an anonymous reviewer rating it as “excellent” — and requested a fee of $150. While this incident is pretty hilarious, it’s a sign of a bigger problem in science publishing. This journal is one of many online-only, for-profit operations that take advantage of inexperienced researchers under pressure to publish their work in any outlet that seems superficially legitimate.
