@taichiyagamiweek Day 3, July 9th 2024: Taichi & Jyou

Taichi needed some time to gain respect for Jyou and Jyou did not like Taichi's brash, irresponsible attitude at first, but they did develop a lot of respect and admiration for each other through the course of the series. It's actually quite a heartfelt theme between them; Jyou, initially the self-proclaimed leader of the group, is the first to vocally acknowledge Taichi's abilities and strengths and rightfully calls him their leader, affirming his trust in him and causing everyone else to follow his example. They couldn't be more different types of people at first glance, and yet, especially as they grow older, it becomes clear that their fears of the future and responsibilities are somewhat similar. It's why Taichi also strongly relates to Jyou and defends him when he temporarily stays away from the group, understanding that there are some truths, duties that aren't "easy to face". There is an underlying theme of mutual adoration and trust between them, as they both also constantly need to overcome their boundaries - but they can also be quite the chaotic goofballs together that should never ever be given microphones at a Karaoke night.

“You got no idea,” Jounouchi said as he casually slicked up his palm, “how many times I’ve been cranking it with someone else in the room and I had to bite down on my fist, or a pillow. Don’t tell Honda but I’ve done it with him in the bed.”

Seto could only stare at him with saucer eyes. The shame burned him so hot, and yet Jounouchi was utterly shameless. He could fuck anywhere and anyone, and it meant nothing to him. He didn’t get heated over a simple touch, or lose his cool with his ass exposed. It made Seto hate him more, and admire him. He had every freedom Seto lacked.

Time to finally update this! I’m not going to go into too much detail on each one, but I’ll give like a few sentences explaining and the "focus" characters. All AUs with “*” next to it have comics planned for them. They will be under the cut as this is going to be long lol. I will be restating the ones previous but with new info. None of them have any definitive ships as I’m not much of a shipper, but there is one that has Jouchi but the romance is not the big thing.

Umbrella Academy*

Focus Character(s): Digidestined

Over the course of seven years, a miracle event would happen every October 1st. Children would be born without their parent ever being pregnant. Eccentric Billionaire Oikawa obtained twelve of them.

Stranger Things*

A group of children come across a strange girl in the woods when searching for their friend that had went missing a few days earlier. Following her appearance, several unnatural occurrences and more missing children make them realize more may be going on behind the scenes, and if they want to find their friend, they will have to prepare for the worst.

Camp Cretaceous*

Six kids were given the invitation of a life time. A chance to relax at a camp located at Jurassic world. Not many kids are given this opportunity so it would be a shame to decline. But as they start getting comfortable at the camp, things take a turn to the worst and it becomes a race to get to safety.

The elusive Digi World Theatre is in need of an actor to play in their next coming musical. When one of their make-up artist brings in her best friend, they may have found the perfect man for the job. Though they have to figure out how to get the friend let them borrow his digimon.

For as long as Takeru could remember, he work in the circus. Starting as a lowly stagehand, now he is being trained to be his own ringmaster. As he struggles to figure out the ins and outs of show bizz, He is given advice from the many preformers including his brother.

Ken awakens in a desolate version of Odaiba alongside his two best friends. As they search the city, they find they must play deadly games if they wish to survive. As they struggle to survive, they make several friends and enemies along the way, and others pending.

Rosa finds herself called to the digital world with a group of other kids. They don't understand why they have been called as they already have digimon partners and the world seems to be safe. They think this a false alarm until they come across a digimon without a name and acts a little too human for it not to be a little suspicious.

Animal Experimentation

Yamato finds himself in a hidden science facility alongside his brother. They find that they are not the only children kept here and as the years pass they slowly see the effects of the facility.

Scary Stories

A group of kids find a book filled with tales of frightening creatures. After telling one of the stories at a campfire, they find that the creature has come to life. Now they must work out how to get rid of it and keep more from appearing.

Purge*

Focus Character(s): Daisuke

Daisuke had no plans to journey out during the purge. Sure, he liked a little adventure, but he wasn't into this purge thing. His plans changed though when his friend goes missing, and he must go search through the madness that is their city to find him. He meets up with some of their other friends and some unknowns along the way to help him in making sure they make it til morning. And once they do, he is getting the fuck out of dodge with Ken.

Dead by Daylight*

Focus Character(s): Jou

Jou had just been walking home from school. When it became all foggy, he thought nothing of it but as he continues walking he realizes he doesn’t recognize where he is. After searching for a few hours, he finds a woman that seems to understand what's going on. She explains that he was taken by the entity. He learns he likely wasn’t the only one, and that one of his friends is likely to be here in the woods as well.

Magnus Archives

Izumi had just been appointed as the head archivist and his first order of business is to get all the supernatural statements up-to-date. Though, he isn’t sure how reliable they truly are. He plans to document he and his teams additional notes through audio recordings as they read through the statements.

Kids love their jingly keys I guess. This is just to give the kids kingdom hearts outfits and keys. :p

Meiko 01*

She had thought she was just going to a summer camp, but now she is stuck in another world with some of the kids from camp. She isn’t sure what freaks her out more, the strange creatures that inhabit this world or how loud her friends seem to be. At least, Sora and Koushirou seem quiet. 

Descendants*

Focus Character(s): Digidestined

Odaiba Academy has opened their doors to some of the children stuck in the Dark Isles due to their parents. They will be able to go to classes and take residency in the academy, but if they leave the academy, they have to have an escort. Will they be able to change the opinions of the Dark Isles, or will they  prove that the Dark Isles is better off closed off.

Fantasy (War of the Realms)*

Focus Character(s): Taichi and Hikari

Taichi’s the to-be king of the Eiko Kingdom, but when his sister gets a nasty vision of a war across the realms. They must run away to find the people seen in the vision. They are guided by a young knight-in-training that helped them escape and a mythical being that is known as one of the divine, at least when the divine thinks it is a good time to show up that is.

Zombie Apocalypse*

Focus Character(s): Sora

She had been in school when the world had went to shit. She remembers running from teachers and classmates alike with Taichi and his friend. They quickly made their way to Hikari's class and got out of the school. They weren't sure where they were going to go, but they knew they had to do something. Starting with finding shelter and their loved ones.

Ghost Hunters

Focus Character(s): '02 gang

Hikari and Takeru had been raised on the paranormal, their brothers had a friend who was a firm believer in aliens and Taichi had always been a bit of an adrenaline junkie. So it wasn't surprising when they started hunting for the supernatural. It was even less surprising when Hikari and Takeru came of age, they dragged their friends into becoming ghost hunters.

Corrupt Digidestined

Focus Character(s): '99 gang

They didn't know what happened. They had ended up in this strange world and the longer they progressed, the meaner they became. They dealt with any digimon that got in their way without mercy. When they saw the fear that was in every digimon's eyes, Taichi got the bright idea that they should take over if they were gonna be stuck there. And that's what they did. Until, three years later when four new children came along.

Superheroes

Focus Character(s): Ken

Ken knew what it was like to feel like the world had something against you. He even tried to ruin the world for how it had wronged him. But now he had turned a new leaf, at least for the most part, and he was going to help people like him find a better way to handle their issues without trying to burn everyone down alongside those issues.

HTTYD*

Focus Character(s): Jou and Taichi

Taichi had lived in Ceres Village for his entire life alongside his sister and friends. He loved the village as much as any other guy, but he wanted to see more. He knew that there had to be more out there, other dragons, other villages. He wanted to see it all. And eventually, one night, he had the courage to run off for a little bit, not far, just to a island not far across the sea. He just wasn't expecting to find anyone living there, much less a whole sanctuary in a cave.

Ghost in the Mirror*

Focus Character(s): 02 gang

Hikari remembers when she got sick and her brother went to summer camp. That was the last time she ever saw him. She wasn't the only one to lose a brother at that camp, a boy named Takeru was meant to go but his mother pulled him out of it. His brother on the other hand did go, and went missing just like her brother. Four other kids went missing alongside them, no one knows what happened. But she's going to find out.

Star Wars*

Focus Character(s): Iori

Iori is a young Padawan being trained by his grandfather. His father was meant to train him, but he was killed by someone he used to know. His grandfather wouldn't tell him much of the tale, just that the person had fallen to the dark side. He accepted this until someone attacks the Jedi temple and attempts to kidnap him, and it suddenly has all the importance and he wished he asked for more details.

Maze Runner*

Focus Character(s): Hikari

She and her brother had been the first. All they remembered was waking up in a container in a field surrounded by walls. Once they got everything out, it went into the ground like an elevator. It didn't return for a month, and when it did, it held a older boy with glasses. This trend continues for several months with a new person every month. They had built a village by the time things began to change, and it all revolved around a pair of brothers.

Road Trip

Focus Character(s): Digidestined

Get in, losers! We're going on an adventure. Jou, don't sighing it won't be that bad. Just remember to bring ibuprofen, you'll need it. You got the car with the kids. Don't run away, Jou!

Humans and Digimon have cohabitated in the human world for a few years, but with this comes new challenges. In response to this, children with a unique ability to evolve digimon have been trained as spies, bodyguards, and assassins. All the world leaders want their hands on one, but what will they do when the children get a taste of what it's like to be treated more than a weapon.

Camp Half-Blood*

Focus Character(s): Koushirou

It wasn't in Koushirou's plans to find out he was the son of a goddess on a school field trip, but I guess that's just how things go when you are adopted. Now his parents are sending him of to camp to meet other people like him when he'd stay at home in his room with his laptop.

List of Digimon Au's that I am working on w/ small descriptions (more aus will be added with time)

-Camp Cretaceous au: 02 kids are campers at Camp Cretaceous in Jurassic World, while the 01 kids either work there or are visiting. They now have to survive against the escaped dinosaurs.

-Digidestined turned digimon au: the 01 & 02 are turned into digimon and have no memories of their past, when one meets a new group of digidestined, they slowly start to remember what happened to them.

-Descendants au: People that were deemed evil (or just straight up are) are separated from the rest of the world on an island. Now some of the children of these people will be given a chance to return.

-SCP au: The digidestined have been taken by the SCP foundation as anomalies, now they have to find out how to escape the foundations and the monsters that they contain.

Winged au- They now has wings

Meiko 01 au- Meiko join the 01 digidestined in their first adventure and everyone thinks she and Jou are siblings.

CoE and Letter of Acceptance from Sophia - Visa process

Sophia University was able to send my Certificate of Eligibility and my official acceptance letter to my school’s study abroad office just under the wire for July. I picked it up today and am now filling out the forms to turn in to my local Japanese embassy office for my student visa. Since some of the questions on the visa paperwork can be a bit difficult to understand, here are some helpful links:  

- Guideline sheet from one of the US consulates

- Tips from another US consulate - Tutorial from another US student on how to fill out some of the items Bear in mind that each country has differences, so the form may need to be filled out differently. Some things to note, as far as I can tell: -“name of ship or airline” is looking for the flight code, usually two letters plus numbers.

-“name of hotel or persons with whom applicant intends to stay” I haven’t booked my place in Japan yet and of course I won’t lie on my form. I might have a place booked within the week, but if I don’t I may need to update this with info on what happens in that circumstance. -if your “guarantor or reference in Japan” is a school, I believe you put only the basic school info and leave the date of birth and sex sections blank, but I’m still verifying this. -it seems like even if you work in your home country, if you are applying for a student visa it makes more sense to fill in “name and address of employer” with “university student” and the school’s information. I’m using my school’s study abroad contact information here. -as a general rule it seems that they want things spelled out as clearly as possible with few abbreviations Will update if anything else comes up on this

Digi Dynamic Shipping Game

Whether canon provides input on them or not:

When deciding which picture I wanted to use for their analysis, it actually took quite a while for me to be truly satisfied with it - and admittedly, I do believe there may be even better ones out there. On the other hand, it also summarizes a certain vibe they’re giving me - but let’s start at the beginning before I get there. 

With their ship gaining a lot more popularity throughout recent years, I was very excited to see them getting as many votes as they did in the poll mentioned above. At first - very superficial - glance, they seem to play off of their designated tropes rather perfectly; you have the reckless and enthusiastic let’s-go-for-it protagonist and the overly-correct and anxious voice of reason who has to hold him back - and that quite literally happens several times in Adventure. It looks like they’re contrasting leadership portrayals, with one of them being self proclaimed due to being the oldest, thinking they HAVE to do it, whereas the other doesn’t actively strive to be a leader, but has a strong sense of “moving (the group) forward”. And that’s what makes you think they would constantly clash - but that’s where the trope gets torn apart throughout the series:

While Taichi does have a hard time respecting and “relying” on Jyou and Jyou cannot help but role his eyes at Taichi’s forwardness AT FIRST - they both learn the good qualities of the other throughout the series and you can VISIBLY and AUDIBLY tell that the mutual admiration grows. And the older they get, the more we actually learn that they’re more similar to each other than their tropes would have liked us to believe at first. 

Once Taichi witnesses Jyou’s own courage (and self-sacrificing recklessness by doing so), his respect starts to increase - not surprising, as this is one of his own themes throughout the series, so the mutual relatability actually starts very early. Jyou’s arc throughout Adventure 01 (and in general) is to come to terms with what his “personal role” is, among the group, in the future, etc. And while going through that journey, he is the FIRST one to acknowledge Taichi as rightful leader of the group, reassuring him in front of everyone in times when everyone’s fate is resting on his shoulders. He has seen Taichi falter just as much as he had done himself - and yet he knows that it was his charisma, his natural sense of togetherness that brought everyone back together. He’s not “rejecting his own responsibility”, he just sees Taichi’s qualities - and has been witnessing them for a while.

Looking back at the screenshot taken above, things people like to associate both Taichi and Jyou with in different contexts is - that they’re actually not the “smartest” in the group. Taichi is often assumed to be a head-through-wall-character who tends to not think twice (mostly if the plot requires it), while Jyou has to go out of his way to STUDY HIS BUTT OFF in order to deal with tests, cram school, high school entrance exams, etc. However, Taichi’s own arc throughout Adventure 01 (and in general) is that he has to become more mindful, of his surroundings, the people he cares about and thus he is not only shown to become more empathetic, his strategies also become more those of a great, observant tactician. And Jyou sees and acknowledges that. They may have a more teasing attitude in regards to their weaknesses (and strengths), which is often played for (very endearing) comic relief moments, but they also begin to praise each other a lot at this point. Not only that, but they appear to grow significantly more physically comfortable throughout the series (lots of hands on shoulders and casual touches may indicate that as well). Jyou, while always being portrayed as rather clumsy, also eventually comes to terms with the fact that his help, his support looks different from what he once thought was his path - he may have to study to become “booksmart”, but he also becomes wiser through his experiences. And so does Taichi. 

They might actually be the ones who become most contemplative as the series goes on - and that’s why it’s a shame we actually do not see them interact a lot with each other past 01. Because you can tell they’ve grown to trust and understand each other a lot. One of my favourite sequences all throughout Tri is in the second movie - while the group goes on about how Jyou is letting them down by not showing up and prioritizing his studies over fighting, Taichi is the one who cuts him some slack. He UNDERSTANDS that “talking to him might just remind him of things he doesn’t want to face”, so he wants to give Jyou the time and space he needs - because he himself is going through the exact same thing. And so it also is no surprise that Jyou is the one who looks through Taichi as well - in the stageplay (and the fourth movie, very briefly) he is the one who approaches Taichi for being “weird” and having another fight with Yamato, knowing EXACTLY how much that has ALWAYS worn him down (ever since he saw them fight in the Dark Master’s Arc). Even if they don’t fully succeed in reaching through to each other at this point in time - they understand each other’s wants and needs and that they’ve both been wearing masks to hide their true feelings behind. 

It’s all a lot more subtle as it’s - as mentioned - all very brief and more in the background than anything else, but paying close attention to their moments together really shows how compatible they can be.

Whether I think why and how they’d work:

As outlined above, it’s remarkable how much they just STOP clashing against each other at some point in the series. Unlike other character duos who contrast each other very blatantly and never really stop doing so, even when they do get more familiar/comfortable with each other through the seasons, there is usually a factor of remaining friction (examples here are Taiyama and Koumi, but not exclusively). Jyou is one of the few characters who just breaks through people’s barriers like that as he becomes more and more of a senpai to the others as the series progresses (which is why he and Mimi are growing to become so compatible as well - and I’m inclined to say that stageplay!Jyou has literally perfected the art of breaking through people’s barriers, such as in Koushirou’s and Yamato’s cases). And that, ladies and gentlemen, might also be the reason why he would be a very appealing partner to Taichi - who definitely NEEDS someone to break through his own barriers, because he has grown accustomed to not let others in. Jyou, having become the person he is displayed to be as a young adult, would see through all of that - and choose whether or not confronting him or leaving him be for a while might be the right choice for the moment. We have seen that he understands Taichi’s needs - and while they both might not be the best to voice their own needs and concerns in the perfect way, they actually play off of each other much, much better than others would.

And I’d say it’s not unlikely to believe they would spend a lot of time together off duty as adults - we already know Agumon and Gomamon like to hang out together when Taichi’s at uni and Jyou at work. Additionally, they have chosen to go through the most daunting, most demanding education paths, which will take them years and years of studying - remember how I said they both seem to be not the smartest? Hard work and dedication always made up for that and even if they might curse themselves for having gone down their respective roads, maybe even spend entire evenings rambling about how much everything sucks... I can actually see them NOT drowning in negativity because of that. If their relationship analysis has taught me anything about their personality structures, even as adults, they might pick a more humorous way of moping, thus picking each other up again and again. A bit of gloominess is fine, but they would find ways out of it by teasing and nudging. Even big senpai!Jyou may need to have some of Taichi’s warmth (figuratively and literally) shine on him in return. (Even if they might have to stick to long distance calls a lot.)

They might need the enouragement of the others - including their Digimon partners, but also through the likes of Mimi - to come out of their “own four walls” every once in a while, but once they do, they would have a great time. They’d have Ramen dates, being Daisuke’s main test subjects (mostly together with Yamato and Ken), I could also see them having cram (and moping) sessions over at Koushirou’s office (maybe they can pull him out of his own four walls too... Takeru would also be there btw) and they’d DEFINITELY go to Sora’s exhibitions together. That aside, they’re more on the relaxed side when it comes to spending their freetime (vacation time chilling on the beach, my dudes), but I can also see Taichi trying to push Jyou more towards sports activities.

Whether I’d prefer them as platonic or romantic ship:

As mentioned, the recent wave of fandom popularity surely has made me want to dig deeper into their dynamics - and while I usually focus more on their other relationships (mainly Yamato and Mimi for Jyou as well as Koushirou and Sora for Taichi), this one has definitely been one of the deeper AND fun ones. And I must say, I think I have fallen a little more for their romantic side than I used to, looking at all the mutual healing potential. I can just sense a lot of fondness between them and I’ll always go for ships that are mutually supportive and loyal - which definitely appears to be the case here! In general, they could be great platonic bros too, ESPECIALLY in terms of moping about how much life sucks as adults, so overall, I am definitely a fan of both angles.

Cole basically always had a separate storyline (the serpents, the role play, the preppy school, Tabi, etc.) because Jug always carries the plot while other characters do nothing, but back when Cole was taking care of that human mess that is Lili, her idiotic stans didn't think it meant Cole was difficult to work with. But as soon as he dumps her, he is the worst. They are so obvious.
