'i know it looks a bit confusing, but this dance is not a hard one, i promise.' you smile, wanting to make him more comfortable. dancing is like breathing to you and sharing this with joshua is precious. 'do you want to start from the beginning or from last two moves?'

your endless patience and gentleness is one of the traits that made joshua fall in love with you at the first place; seeing them so clearly now makes it a bit hard to pay attention to anything else. he smiles, nodding. 'from the start.'

you move towards him, standing in front of him with raised arms. joshua carefully takes needed position and when you start counting, he loses his step, getting lost admiring you.

'oh josh, was i too fast? i'm sorry.' you come back to your default position. 'from the start?'

'no, it's all on me.' joshua shakes his head, shy. 'your eyes are like doves, darling. i just got distracted.'

you blush, avoiding his gaze. 'oh. thank you.'

'you're welcome.' joshua says, smiling. 'hard to focus when the teacher is so beautiful.'

you blush so prettily and pink that intensifies on your cheeks makes him smile so wide that his cheeks hurt. 'joshua,' you chastise him gently. 'focus.'

'it's your fault for being so distracting,' joshua protests, grinning. but then he nods seriously. 'i will try, sorry. i will ignore your prettiness for this dance lesson sake.'

joshua tries his best to concentrate for the rest of the lesson, but he can tell that you are distracted too, messing up some steps. he grins and lets it all slide, staring at your pretty eyes with a dreamy smile on his lips.

Gav watched the massive bird swoop in front of them, placing himself firmly between the Enterprise and Odin. Not to say that Clive’s little brother wasn't brave, he was just damned near more daft than Clive himself. Constantly throwing himself into the same danger as his brother, but with a quarter of the muscle mass and a bad lung. But this? This was insanity. Odin had just dismantled his brother, the Eikon slayer, into a shred of ribbons the week before. And this skinny son of a bitch was the one who pulled him back together. Mending every limb, as if trying to un-carve a butchered bird. And by some miracle, up to his eyeballs in blood, the bastard had pulled it off. And now he was standing before Odin, ready for his turn. Who the hell did he think was going to patch him up? Is he out of his fucking mind?! Gav wondered, tossing a bucket of water onto the last fire and then scrambling to the bow to watch. No, of course he wasn't. He knew what he was risking. He knew he didn't stand a chance, just as Gav did, but he remembered the moment they'd noticed Odin appear. Joshua had moved instinctually in front of him and waved him away. He wasn't fighting Odin to win, he was fighting to keep him away from everyone else. Imagine that! The golden haired son of a duke that the breeze could knock over, and Gav cowered behind him like a little pup at the sight of Tharmr. That fucker better not die on our account!

you glance worriedly at your boyfriend, who's been pretty silent since the moment you got discharged from the hospital. joshua is not a very talkative guy, but it's rare for him to be this quiet too especially in your presence. his hand that usually is locked with yours when he drives is now gripping the steering wheel and it's.. baffling. a bit upsetting too, to be very honest. you try to remember if something happened during the last hour, but you can't latch on anything that could've made him like this. 'shua?' you call quietly. 'is everything alright?'

he quickly glances at you before focusing back on the road. 'yes, sweetheart. are you alright? nothing hurts anymore, right?'

you nod before hesitantly continuing: 'i am okay. you look a bit tense, that's why i asked if you're alright.'

joshua doesn't answer, not outright. it takes several minutes for him to find the correct words and he starts explaining during the red light: 'all of it just dawned on me. how i could lose you just like that, by some stupid accident. it's a heavy thought, you know?'

not expecting this reply at all, you turn to him with wide eyes. 'i'm here, shua. everything is alright now.'

'i know, i know. i swear i'm not trying to be dramatic or like to dumpen the mood right now, because you are so happy that we can finally go home...' he sighs and grips the steering wheel tighter. 'and i'm happy too. so happy, baby, you have no idea. if i ever lost you, i'd fall apart.'

'oh.' you reach out to him and brush away a single tear that falls down his cheek. 'baby. joshua, my love. i am here.'

you didn't know. your mind doesn't go places like that one and you generally try to be more focused on positivity and thinking only about good outcome. you had no idea that joshua even thought of this, that something like this plagued his mind. even though you can't possibly promise this, you still say: 'you won't ever lose me, shua.'

this is all he needed to hear - he grips your hand and pulls it to his mouth, letting it stay there as few more tears escape his eyes. when you come home, you'll stay with him in bed until he lets it all out, but for now you only squeeze his hand back, hoping that this is enough of a reminder to him that you are here. and you're not going anywhere.

“What’s on your mind?” Joshua asks, one hand on the steering wheel and one your thigh, stealing you from your thoughts. The drive back home from his family party has been quiet and he isn’t sure how you’re feeling about it.

“I’m just thinking about the party,” you smile in response, yet he can’t help but feel nervous.

What if it was too much for her? What if she didn’t like my family? What if she—

“Shua, get out of your head,” you laugh lightly. “Everything is fine and I had a great time.”

“Really?”

“I promise.”

Breathing a sigh of relief, Joshua grabs your hand and kisses the back of it. “How did you find it though?” he queries curiously.

“Hmm,” you contemplate, “honestly, it was overwhelming at first and I was a nervous wreck, especially since you have such a huge family. I was especially nervous about meeting your mom.”

“And?” he prods.

“She’s lovely,” you reply, “and very welcoming. So, was the rest of your family. It was really nice to see how close you all were as a unit and I was amazed at how good you were with the kids. They seemed to love being spoiled by Uncle Shua.”

Joshua laughs, “I can’t help it. They’re really adorable.”

“They are,” you agree. “How are you feeling, by the way? Are you okay? You gave lots of piggy backs and airplane rides.”

“Well, that’s what these muscles are for,” he laughs again, throwing a wink your way as you playfully smack his arm. “Was that all you were thinking about? You seemed pretty deep in thought.”

He can tell the question makes you nervous, as your free hand starts to fiddle with the hem of your dress.

“I was thinking about how great of a father you’ll be,” you say nervously, “and how I can’t wait to have a family with you.”

Joshua’s brain short circuits for a second and luckily he’s stopped at a red light. “Should we get started tonight?” he teases. “How far away from home are we? Should we have kids one after the other?”

“Shua, stop!” you punch his arm, laughing all the while. “We have all the time in the world.”

“That we do,” Joshua affirms.”I can’t wait to spend it all with you.”

The rest of the drive home is spent in silence filled with warmth and love. At least until Joshua breaks by saying, “We can continue practicing making babies though, right?”

He happily accepts another punch to his arm.
