he says it in the avatar: braving the elements podcast hosted by dante basco and janet varney (korra’s VA)!

just go to the 16:33 minute mark of the episode called "secret tunnel! with joshua hamilton and jeremy zuckerman". he states that he ships zutara, and thinks that the show "did it wrong" in going with kat.aang.

for context, joshua hamilton wrote the following episodes: the cave of two lovers, the chase, the serpent's pass, the painted lady, the runaway, the boiling rock pt. 2, and the ember island players. so we have him to thank for some of the best zutara symbolism and the wonderful depth we get for katara.

Wdym zutara foreshadowing in cave of two lovers? Pwease ewabowate Im vewy cuwious

i assume this is referring to my post on joshua hamilton, writer of the cave of two lovers episode, being a zutara shipper.

the foreshadowing i'm talking about is the legend of oma and shu that is introduced to us in the cave of two lovers. the legend talks about two lovers from opposing sides of a war who fall in love and secretly find a way to be together in a cave. even though it's technically a kat.aang episode, everything about this legend seems to point to zutara, from the story of lovers from two warring peoples, to a connection in a cave of glowing green crystals, to being visually colour coded in identical shades to zuko and katara.

it's long been theorized that this legend was meant to foreshadow zutara, particularly given that book 2 is the most tightly plotted season of atla, and many of the season's ending plot points (zuko being swayed by azula, the avatar state, the spirit water) were set up in the very beginning... and the cave of two lovers is the second episode of the season.

obviously we can't know for sure whether hamilton knowingly set up zutara, or was just subconsciously influenced by his ship preferences, but given the knowledge we have of both authorial beliefs and what actually ended up being shown onscreen, i think it's safe to say there's some very strong evidence to support the CoTL legend as foreshadowing for canon zutara.
