「生きているだけで丸儲け」…何とチャラいモットーと、初めて聞いた時はそう思った。

でも、生きてきて色々見てしまうと、来世があるか否か分からないならば、このモットーの言っていることは、ありえるなと。

このバンドを見ていると、「人生の荒波を渡って来た」と言う言葉が浮かぶ。

マッドチェスターブームに乗り、最も商業的に成功したバンドと言われ、アイドル的なルックスのVocalがいるため、数々の表紙を飾る。

だがその大成功の天国の裏には、様々な苦労があった。

特にメンバーの脱退、事故、死まで起きたのだから、地獄を見たに違いない。

明日なんて何が起きるか分からない。

coronavirus コロナウィルスが世界中で蔓延してるのも、もしかしたら神が試しているのかとさえ思えてくる。

ふるいにかけらてからじゃ遅すぎる。

どうせ燃え尽きるなら

真っ直ぐに生きて後悔したくない。

About “The Charlatans”

1988年にウエスト・ミッドランズにて、バンドを結成。直後に、マッドチェスターブームを索引したThe Stone Rosesの前座を務め、その甘いルックスでインディーファンだけでなく、全英を虜にしたThe Charlatans。

ローゼスボーカルIan Brownを思わせるTim Burgess(Vo)のボーカルパフォーマンス・ルックス(結構似てる)に、ハモンドオルガンから繰り出される、ダンサブルなマッドチェスターサウンドが収録されてる処女作、"Some Friendly"。

このアルバムで早々と全英チャート1位を獲得。 バンドは破格の成功を収める。 その後も、サウンドに変化を加えながら、コンスタントにリリースを続ける。 ブルースロックに大きく影響されてる"Just Lookin"。

"Here comes a Soul Saver"はPink Floydの"Fireless"のリフを使用してる洒落てる。

この曲が収録されてる、4th"The Charlatans"も全英チャート1位を獲得。自分がシャーラタンズの中で好きなアルバム。 そして、去年の2017年に通算13枚目"Different Days"を発表。Paul Waller(The Jam)Johney Marr(The Smith)、Peter Salisbury (The Verve)などなど豪華ゲスト多数参加してるのもある。とても濃い内容となってるので、これも是非聴いて欲しい。

今年結成から30年を迎える。 1996年に交通事故でキーボディストのRob Collins、2013年に脳腫瘍でベーシストのJonBrookesが他界。不慮の事故を乗り越え、現在はTim Burgess(Vo)、Martin Blunt(B)、Mark Collins(G)、Tony Rogers(K)の4人編成。 SUMMER SONIC2018出演も決定してる。 サポートメンバーは誰を迎えるのだろう。それを考えると暑くて、憂鬱になる夏が少し乗り切れそうな気がする。
