For a "Dragon Age blog", you sure spread a lot of hate about the franchise and the creators of said franchise... Do you ever have anything good to say about the games? Other than calling them homophobic, or racist, or some other bs?
Nope I hate literally everything about the Dragon Age games. And the books. And the comics. And the videos. Dragon Age is really bad there is nothing good about it. I hate all of it. All of it.

Okay so I was originally going to spend my evening summing up some thoughts on ME:A and then probably reading some explicit fanfiction to wind down, but I have literally been invited, by name, to fight instead. What a great day. I honestly didn’t think I was even still relevant here anymore lmao, but it seems @rory-pond1 disagrees
I’m not going to reblog the actual post because a) it is very long, b) I don’t want it anywhere near my blog, and c) I’m 99% sure I have the OP blocked anyway, so I doubt I’d be able to if I tried. Instead, I will link it here. I’m also gonna mention @anders-was-right on here too, as you were also challenged on that post
(Rambly discourse below. If you remember when I was actually active around here, it’s exactly what you’re expecting lmao. If you’re new here and yelling about fictional human rights issues isn’t your jam, just scroll on by)
Firstly, I literally have a masterpost of stuff that covers pretty much every argument on that list. I’m not kidding. It’s on my sidebar, with the combined yelling of many Anders fans who still remember the days when you’d start shit simply by saying you liked him. I don’t know how people miss it so often. Anywho, I’m going to go backwards and work my way from the bottom to the top, because that seems simpler for some reason
#1: if you think Anders was looking for a peaceful, calm, rational* (I’ll get there in a minute) solution by blowing up the Chantry, you weren’t paying attention. He literally says ‘I’ve removed the chance of compromise because there is no compromise’ and ‘There can be no peace’. The whole point was not to have a calm or peaceful solution because that would just lead to things going on as they were. You can’t change society that much without bloodshed. It was, however, an incredibly sane and rational reaction. An irrational reaction, as my friend who has not played the games but has listened to my obsessed ass yell about this for years, would be running around pouring custard on birds. He tried 7 years of peaceful solutions, working with the underground and trying to expose corrupt Templars like Ser Alrik, and not one of them came to fruition. An extreme reaction is not always an irrational one and it is not always wrong
#2: As for the terrorism comment, please see the following links from my masterpost: here, here, and here
#3: ‘Not one other person, even all the evil ones, fucked over as many mages as he did!’ Lol anyways
#4: On blowing up a Chantry with ‘tons’ of innocent people inside: There are more NPCs in the Blooming Rose than there are in the Chantry throughout the entire game. He also blew it up at night, after people would be gone. The only ones inside would’ve been priests and Templars. People have brought up orphans, but there’s no actual evidence to say there were children in the Kirkwall Chantry aside from other Chantry’s taking them in. I’d say the state of Darktown and how many homeless children we see there and in Lowtown throughout the game is evidence enough to say there were no orphans present in that building. See point #2 again for the terrorism comment
#5 On dooming the mages: Did Anders know mages would die in this fight and the ensuing events? Absolutely. He had no questions about it. He even fully expected to be the first casualty of many. But here’s the thing you’re missing: he was 100% sure these mages were going to die anyway, and he was correct when it came to Kirkwall. Meredith had already called for the Rite of Annulment and, considering Leliana’s dialogue from the Exiled Prince DLC, it sounds like they would’ve done it just to avoid things escalating further to the point of needing an Exalted March. It was basically a goddamned guarantee
As Anders says, ‘it’s a quick death now or a slow one later. I’d rather die fighting’. Is he making a choice for all the mages without asking? He is. But he’s giving them a chance, one they wouldn’t have had otherwise. They were all going to die. This way, they could fight back, some would manage to escape, free and alive, and those that fell would do so at least knowing they had done what they could. Sure, it’s little comfort, but it must be better than being killed when you have no chance to save yourself. Had the Rite been called at any other time, there would’ve been no warning and everyone would’ve been slaughtered. By forcing it then, when it could be controlled, when the mages could be helped and given a shot to survive, he gave them a fighting chance, and no matter what Hawke’s choices are, as far as I know, some do get out. And if the number that escaped is greater than 0, then that’s more mages than those who would’ve lived had Anders not blown up the Chantry and the Rite been enacted behind closed doors as it usually was
He’s not initiating slaughter; he’s bringing the slaughter that was already happening out from behind closed doors and evening out the casualty counts for the sides a bit
#6: As for the backstabbing Hawke thing, lying to someone isn’t betrayal oh my fucking god. See this post I wrote on it. You‘re allowed to dislike that he lied to you, but acting like he sold Hawke out or killed their parents and didn’t tell them or something is so far out there I can’t even handle it
#7: I have a strong issue with any alternate plan that relies on Hawke’s help (because the thing about the game is that Hawke’s help is not guaranteed). That said, going along with Grace’s rebellion is actually not a bad idea at all. I suspect, though, that it would’ve led to the same level of slaughter given how much of an extremist Grace became. There’s no proof either way on this, so I’ll let it lie. Probably the best alternative I’ve heard in my years on this hellsite, but there’s a lot left for speculation on it
As for murdering Meredith, please explain how that seems like a good idea in practice. Anders may be nigh immortal, according to his short story, but even he knows better than to try to fight the literal leader of the Templars in the area. And that’s without knowing about her thing with red lyrium. I strongly suspect a Litany of Adralla would work on Justice, as it works on Cole in Asunder, and that’s all she’d have to do to strip him of his invulnerability. Anders would die. Meredith would get even more tyrannical as she now has proof there are radical mages out to get her and one just made a direct attack. The Circle is likely annulled. Game over. No one wins
Plus, even if it did work out, you really think Cullen would go on a more moderate path after the Commander he trusted was murdered by an “abomination”? Not a chance. He’d harden up immediately and become Meredith 2.0. Besides, slightly improved Circles isn’t want Anders is going for. He’s going for NO Circles. Still won’t work
See #5 for why waiting wouldn’t work either. If you played the Exiled Prince DLC, it seems fairly obvious how things would go down. They’re considering an Exalted March because of, largely, mage related issues. Meredith comes to them with a request to enact the Rite. Voila, the Chantry just got their in-between solution. Rite of Annulment happens anyways. Game over. Is there a possibility it wouldn’t have gone down like that? Yes, but as you said, it’s not necessarily a good idea, and it’s also WAY too much to risk
I’m also going to add this post here which explains why this needed to be big. Why it needed to be undeniable. Why it needed to be what it was. It also starts by addressing a lot of other ‘potential solutions’. It’s the most extensive piece of meta I’ve seen and been a part of as to why it had to go down the way it did
#8: Anders started a war: go read the last link again, and then go read Asunder. Anders didn’t start the war, Fiona did. There was literally a vote. Anders’ actions were just the catalyst that made it possible for the mages to actually have a shot at succeeding (as opposed to when Fiona tried to do this in Awakening, as per Wynne’s dialogue, and Anders’ dialogue as to why it wasn’t a good idea then. It was literally suicide. They couldn’t do it without something to spark it, and that’s what he gave them. They had the unrest they needed to pull it off)
#9: I’m ignoring all the sarcastic commentary in the middle there, but I have to address the comment about Anders not being interested in the law applying to him. What game did you play? Anders offers his neck on a silver platter. He had absolutely no question he was going to die. If you let him live, he’s in shock. He knows the consequences of what he’s doing, both personal and reaching, to the extent that one actually can
#10 Anders martyring the mages: um what? K go back up and read from the beginning again. If you honestly got all the way down here and still think the first bit about Anders intentionally inciting the Rite because he wants the mages slaughtered (you know, not because he knows the Divine is going to grant it anyway to avoid an Exalted March, and at least if it’s public, there’s a chance some may live, both now and in the future, if the conflict is brought to light), then you really need to read closer because you clearly weren’t paying attention
Alright, I could add more, but I’d say the rest of the post is already taken care of. So there you have it. Guess what? Anders was right and didn’t fuck anything up. If you wish to argue further, I’m more than game lmao, but it would be nice if you read my masterpost all the way through first. Pretty much every argument I’ve ever encountered is accounted for there (though I admit I’ve been bad at upkeep for the last while; let me know about any broken links and I’ll try to fix them)
So yeah. I stand by every single defense of Anders I have ever made before. You do know that your hate just fuels me and makes me stronger, right? I swear, any day now I’m going to have superpowers if y’all keep at it lmao

rory-pond1 replied to your post: You know what will forever amuse me. The Chantry =...
I thought that the cremation was widely practiced in thedas to avoid walking skeletons and the like? Pretty sure that’s canon.
Cremation is practiced as a burial rite to mimic the prophet Andraste’s pyre. The avoiding undead is a side benefit. Nevarrans keep their dead in tombs so they can call spirits into the dead for necromatic purposes. Avvar peoples practice sky burial. Qunari do not bury their dead or treat the bodies in any special way-- as they view the body as a simple vessel.
The post said nothing about funeral rites past Andrastians generally are burned on a pyre. The Chantry, being as imperialist as it is, is p much everywhere and thus the burning. Likewise, the Blight is everywhere [as it was in Andraste’s time] so burning. Andrastains also ritually burn their hands and arms while praying, this is said in World of Thedas 2.
