Tuve la intención de hacerle una iluminación más dramática, más colorida, más #musicaltheatre, pero no me salió como quería. La intención también era representar al Jon de la temporada 3, desesperado por obtener respuestas sobre las entidades, con las cosas que le depara el futuro/ que le falta terminar de entender cómo funcionan oscurecidas por las sombras (?. Telarañas incluidas en eso. Al principio le había dibujado una grabadora en la mano pero después me pareció más piola que hiciera el gesto de estar grabando sin tener la grabadora actually. Por lo demás la composición en sí es bastante cliché jajj. Y abusé del uso de texturas. Qué Se yo.

Ouah Jon and I Need to Know from the Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde musical

i was talking abt this irl a while back but i relistened to TGWDLM and it just reminded me of it- remember the Jekyll-and-Hyde back-and-forth thing Paul does in Let It Out? there's a subtle difference in the way Jon sings, between the 'normal Paul' and 'infected Paul' lines- infected Paul's' voice is brighter, slightly higher-pitched. his voice rises at the end of the lines, too.

and as a former theatre kid, whenever i hear that part of Let It Out i always remember something my old music teacher told me- your voice sounds brighter and clearer if you smile when you sing. something about the muscles in your mouth, i think? but obviously, in live theatre you have to act as well as sing, so most of the time you can't do that. but that infected version of Paul is always smiling. in Let It Out his expression changes by the line, and in Inevitable as soon as he starts singing he smiles- and his voice is brighter and clearer and happier.

i think it was one of their best ideas to have a newcomer be Paul for TGWDLM bc it gave us a blank slate to imagine Jon Matteson being this legitimate John Doe mr. Normal that it made Let It Out and the Jekyll and Hyde performance hit better. He had a strong sense of morals and loyalty but besides his outburst at beanies and his anxiety, he wasn’t really all out smiling or angry or anything really (before Bills untimeliness). He was really only embarrassed or afraid most of the time after finally getting Emma’s name before the comet struck.

If we knew how unhinged Jon could be then it wouldn’t have been such a gut punch when he started to REALLY emote, how unsettling it could be with him staring and projecting right into the audience. How tense the elated joy was.

Paul just wants to get by but the Hive wanted him to be happy forever and eternal happiness is one of the most unsettling things I can think of.
