So food wars… is such a perverted anime…

BUT.

The character Dev for soma and his dad is just so good?!

Like that flashback of Joichiro (soma’s dad), being overwhelmed with too many expectations, such a foil to Soma’s no one cares attitude, and then the ending of that episode of how soma saved his dad and helped him start liking cooking again?! TOP TIER writing! It was so beautiful.

Soma’s main quality is his never give up attitude, something people admire a lot about him. How many ever losses he suffers, he gets back up, ready to learn, fight and make others eat their words. Man just never losses his cool, even in win or be expelled situations. And he doesn’t depend on anyone but himself in the start which was his negative trait but slowly he begins to start making his work better by learning to lean on his friends and their support that they offer him freely after his own encouragement and lack of arrogance and general friendliness.

Not to say he doesn’t have an ego, he does, and it hurts every time he losses, but he keeps trying nevertheless and strives to perfect his craft and he puts his efforts on to that instead of defending his skills or whatever, boasting. And he is still sorta arrogant or rather ambitious to aim for the top spot in a cooking school full of genius chefs and people with various specialties- but he never looses his cool, always willing to observe and learn and do better everyday… his other speciality is is his strive towards ultimate customer satisfaction that he does so for each of his own competitors and makes sure that he will learn from every loss and keep improving rather than be embarrassed. That’s the show basically, that’s his gimmick. At first it was a bit boring but seeing the other characters’ arcs and growth and this guy in the background makes you realize the reality of his character and it’s such a great arc and then juxtaposing that with his dad, the wandering chef’s past and his abilities, simply amazing.

But I still hate all the naked stuff and the moaning and yeeesh guys it’s a show about food like stop being weird about it yikes

Toonami Weekly Recap 04/01/2023

Food Wars: The Fifth Plate (The BLUE Arc) EP#76 (03) - Noir: After hearing and accepting Soma’s terms if he wins, Suzuki states his terms by collecting Soma’s knife if he wins. The challenge between Suzuki and Soma starts off with Megumi as the judge. They both make pork cutlet dishes, but Suzuki's use of Chantilly sauce beats Soma's black cheese sauce. However, Suzuki does not collect Soma’s knife, calling it inferior to Joichiro’s knife. Suzuki reveals that he beat Joichiro and took his knife as a reward ,and that his real name is Asahi Saiba. Asahi tells Erina he wants to marry her, but she declines. Soma returns home, meeting Joichiro outside. Back at T?tsuki, Gin contacts Erina and warns her about Asahi. Both Gin and Joichiro explain that Asahi was an orphan who had been accepted as Joichiro’s only student and took his original last name Saiba. Joichiro eventually stopped visiting Asahi's orphange so he could properly run his diner and raise Soma. Gin tells Erina that Asahi is a part of the NOIR (Chefs of the Night), an organization of underworld chefs who got invited to compete in the BLUE by the Book Master of the WGO. Later that night, Asahi tells Erina that he wishes to defeat her and win the BLUE in order to marry her. Erina vows to defeat him for insulting her and T?tsuki. After Soma vows to take revenge on Asahi at the BLUE, Joichiro tells him the secret of becoming a great chef: dedicating all his cooking to someone else.

My Hero Academia Season 6 Dark Hero Arc EP#133 (20) - Hired Gun: Deku saves a tall mutant woman being attacked by panicking civilians who believe she's a villain, having All Might escort her to safety. While surveying the city with the One For All users, he thinks back to during the conversation with the vestiges when the first user Yoichi requests the Second and Third users' help in assisting Deku. They reveal they were from the era when All For One was at the peak of his power and part of a resistance fighting against him, unable to agree with Deku's idealistic beliefs. However, Yoichi reminds them how they had saved him from All For One's capture, rather than killing him like they were originally going to, and that was what allowed One For All to grow in the first place. They eventually are convinced to follow alongside him. Later after taking care of some thieves, Endeavor is lambasted by protesting civilians over his failures and for continuing to keep secrets. Endeavor, Hawks, and Best Jeanist proceed to discuss All For One's plans, believing he intends to completely hijack Shigaraki's body before pursuing Deku, and surmising he requires Shigaraki's hatred to steal One For All because he lacks any. Just then, Deku's GPS goes out while All Might's car is attacked by a smoke bomb. It turns out his phone was sniped by former Public Safety Commission Pro Hero Lady Nagant one of the Tartarus escapees sent by All For One to capture Deku. She uses her Quirk Rifle to shoot at him from afar, causing him to swing around the city and attempt to evade and defend. Lady Nagant is accompanied by Overhaul, who she had rescued from Tartarus, telling him to hide. A flashback shows that Nagant reluctantly agreed to All For One's request learning about Deku's overt idealism about hero society and accepted payment in the form of a second Quirk called Air Walk.

My Hero Academia Season 6 Dark Hero Arc EP#134 (21) - The Lovely Lady Nagant: All Might is cornered by two thugs, they are scared away by his sheer tenacity refusing to leave Deku behind. Deku swings through the city to reach Lady Nagant's location only to be caught off guard by more bullets coming from behind him, realizing she was given an extra Quirk by All For One to lure him closer to her. With no other option, Deku unleashes Smokescreen on the ground and begins to build up energy in his legs, which the third user recognizes as him using his Quirk Fa Jin. He warns him about using it since he has no experience, but he's successfully able to feint out Nagant in the smoke and use the energy boost to blast through a building and grab her. He demands to know why she follows All For One despite originally being a Pro Hero, and as she continues to shoot away at him, she explains her history. She was an assassin sent out by the Commission to kill corrupt heroes taking advantage of the system, as well as villains before they committed any crimes. All of the blood on her hands began to eat away at her mentally, considering everything about their society to be a sham. When she confronted her superior about this, he threatened her with silence, so she killed him in retaliation. This incident was covered up by saying she killed a fellow hero in a dispute. In response, Deku admits that everything isn't as black-and-white as he initially believed, but that's why he still intends to land a hand. To catch him off guard, Nagant suddenly aims her rifle at the nearby Overhaul. He had provided her information on who Deku was in order for her to take him to his Boss. She shoots at Overhaul, but with no hesitation, Deku uses the power of Fa Jin to become faster than a speeding bullet, knocking him out of the way, and uses his remaining strength to defeat Nagant. He saves her from falling, asking her to join their fight, believing she still has the heart of a hero within her. But before she can respond, her body suddenly explodes from within due to a failsafe All For One left inside her. Hawks arrives just in time to rescue her. With her last remaining strength, Nagant tells the Heroes of All For One's location. Endeavor apprehends Overhaul. After hearing him rant about apologizing to his Boss, Deku says he will follow Nagant's promise if he shows that same regret to Eri as well. As he sees Nagant's charred body, rage towards All For One begins to swell up within Deku.

Being Friends with Soma would Include:

Him trying to feed you his horrendous food experiments, only for you to throw them back at him, literally, then mini food fight ensues, and you get yelled at.

Being polar star dorm buddies, but also causing a drama as well whenever you decide to have mini food off’s, it’s pretty tied up in scoring because all of the theme are usually outrageous and chosen by isshiki. Most of the time anyway.

Having and unspoken rivalry that no one wants to talk about because then the two of your get super competitive about whatever it is if it’s food related what so ever.

But your competitions help you in the long run because they both help you to think out side the box, and improve your skills.

However that one time it wasn’t because the competition was for who could make the grossest food. You actually one that one surprisingly by making a real life version of dubious food. Let’s just say the judges weren’t too thrilled to judge, and now you aren’t allowed to use that as a theme any more.

Being jealous that his dad was a famous cook, but also joking that he was kinda hot just to piss soma off.

Pranking the other people at the dorm with various different meat gods.

In summary being really funny to watch but also a nuisance.

Now you never expected to think that Soma’s dad was hot and then end up actually getting with him. You felt like this was illegal but it wasn’t. You just so happened to be dating your student’s dad. Of course you both kept it a secret, neither of you knew how Soma would react to it after all. He was a very unpredictable boy after all.

Even before you had started to date him, you always thought he was attractive but you stepped off. You knew that he loved someone else. But then she was gone before anyone knew it. You visited the Yukihira diner often after that. You knew of Soma soon after. Now you sort of took Soma in and you ended up working at the diner more. 

Joichiro trusted in your skills. He figured you could teach just as much as what he taught him. Before you knew it, Joichiro had confessed his liking to you and you both started dating. But neither of you didn’t wanna tell Soma, not yet. You felt like he might just hate you for it and that you were merely replacing his mom but it wasn’t that at all. 

“y/n-san!” The young Yukihira yelled out. “Teach me!”

“What do you want to know now, Soma-kun?” You went down to his height, looking at the child who seemed to have an endless passion for cooking. “And why can’t you ask your father about it?” The father mentioned looked over at you both, you looking back at him and he had given you a cheeky smile. You rolled your eyes playfully before putting your attention back onto Soma.

The child started to ask for help on making a new dish for the diner. You definitely had a lot of experience in that department as you helped out your boyfriend with the menu most of the time. But Soma was growing up and learning quick, your boyfriend had decided to give Soma more challenges and Soma was quick to accept the challenge.

After you helped out the child as much as you could (even you went along with not helping Soma as he needed to learn a lot if Joichiro wanted him to do well in Totsuki when he was old enough), you and Joichiro were in the back room. “Well, you’ve gotta go a little easy on him.”

“Nah, he can handle it. If he can do some cooking matches against me, he can handle this. He’s gotta learn.” His hands rest on your waist as he pulls you close. You wrap your arms around his neck. “Besides, you help him too.”

“I suppose. You know he has your passion. He’s probably gonna grow up like you. But I guess that’s the whole point, right?” He chuckled at your words, soon moving in to pepper your face with kisses. “H-hey!” He laughed softly at your stutters while he continued to kiss you, hands cupping your cheeks as he did so.

“Hey, y/n-san, I need help with-��� Soma walked in, stopping his words as he looked at the scene before him. Joichiro stopped kissing you, soon letting his hands rest on your waist once again. He seemed to ignore the fact that his father and his mentor were basically kissing seconds ago and continued to talk, “y/n-san, can you help me with these dishes?” You hid the sigh of relief before you went over to Soma, helping the kid out with what he needed.

“Soma-kun, you don’t mind that I’m with your father?”

“Eh? Either way, I’m gonna win in a cooking battle against him and I’ll win one against you too, y/n-san!” Oh how unaware Soma was but he was still a kid, how aware can he really be?

Thinking about the Food Wars ending Sacchan’s Sexy Curry, specifically the lyrics

I was reading the comments on the video I was listening to and some people thought it was from Hisako's perspective talking about Erina, and other people thought it was Sadatsuka.

But to me it also very much reads as something that a parent would direct at their child or vice versa. I think the song is Joichiro talking about Tamako/Soma.

^Sounds like Joichiro meeting Tamako, in a hole-in-the-wall restaurant. Both of them cooked, though Joichiro significantly more skilled at doing so, and all of this happened after Joichiro disappeared off the grid because the food wars and school drove him a tad crazy. He wasn't able to go back and finish.

With a name like Sachiko, meaning happiness... can you ever really be happy? What kind of clothes will you wear today as you break yourself? I know that off in Tokyo, All you do is hang around with long-haired guys.

Should be duly noted that Yukihira, his wife's surname and the last name Soma would inherit, means happiness, and as we all know, Soma got yeeted to Tokyo to attend school. A school that would break and has broken both he and his father. "What kinds of clothes" could also refer to a mask, an excuse to hide behind to avoid being vulnerable, and "long haired guys" may refer to Soma's friends, possibly expressing distance and disappointment in their separation and remorse to the point of disregarding what Soma's done at school, because well, Soma still can't beat him so clearly not enough has happened, right?

It could also refer to Joichiro, part, given he did take his wife's name and he was very much suffering for a long time. "All you do is hang around with long-haired guys" may refer to his own time at Totsuki and the friends and opponents he had.

The mention of ingredients seems random but they appear to depict a confusing and painful event, reminiscent of Tamako's death (According to the wiki, occurring after she went to open the restaurant and she was found on the kitchen floor.)

In addition, remember that Tamako was very chaotic in her youth and she and Joichiro didn't always get along. (Also her hair is brown in the anime, though in the manga it could be another color, and she cut it short to a Less Chaotic Look later.)

It could refer to Joichiro telling Tamako not to change her beautiful chaotic ways, regarding her as precious and keeping her all for himself, telling her to stay strong both in her personality and before her death.

It could also refer to Joichiro telling Soma to stay his little boy, stay himself and just as chaotic as his mother (though not an absolute reflection, perhaps dying his hair brown would be too reminiscent of her), and work to be the best chef he could be.

Conclusion: this is my theory, Sexy Curry is talking about Soma and his Mom from Joichiro's perspective. Is this digging too deep into a song, maybe. Do I care? No.
