Character Actor
John Arthur Doucette (January 21, 1921 – August 16, 1994) Character actor who performed in more than 280 film and television productions between 1941 and 1987. A man of stocky build who possessed a deep, rich voice, he proved equally adept at portraying characters in Shakespearean plays, Westerns, and modern crime dramas. He is perhaps best remembered, however, for his villainous roles as a movie and television "tough guy".
Many baby boomers first saw Doucette as the bad guy on television in several episodes of The Lone Ranger. Performing as an outlaw proved to be a natural role for him, considering his rough looks, commanding presence, and skill with a gun. He was considered by many to be among the fastest draws in Hollywood. His roles, however, went well beyond that stereotype. He appeared on a variety of television shows, including The Time Tunnel, Racket Squad, The Range Rider, Wagon Train, The Roy Rogers Show, The Fugitive, The Adventures of Kit Carson, The Cisco Kid, City Detective, Annie Oakley, The Joseph Cotten Show: On Trial, My Friend Flicka, Sky King, The Californians, Broken Arrow, The People's Choice, Sheriff of Cochise, Bat Masterson, Behind Closed Doors, The Texan, Lawman, The Everglades, Mackenzie's Raiders, Bonanza, The Wild Wild West, The Virginian, Have Gun - Will Travel, Kung Fu, The Rat Patrol, Hogan's Heroes, Adventures of Superman, Sea Hunt, Science Fiction Theatre, Walt Disney Presents, and Tales of Wells Fargo.
Doucette portrayed a police lieutenant, Tom Gregory, on the television version of Big Town. Between 1959 and 1961, he also played Lieutenant Weston on the series Lock-Up, Aaron William Andrews in the comedy The Partners, and bounty hunter Lou Gore in the episode "Dead Aim" on the series Colt .45
Doucette was cast on television as the Apache Chief Geronimo for the 1958 episode "Geronimo" on the Western series Tombstone Territory. He was also cast in 1961 as Captain Cardiff in The Americans, a 17-episode NBC series, starring Darryl Hickman, about how the American Civil War divided families. In 1963 he played “Michael McGoo”, a proud & lovable storytelling Irish sailor in the S6E26 edition of Wagon Train. (Wikipedia)

It's a couple more things going on I think Trump imitated Tommy F no how many F was rather rude and arrogant with our son doesn't get it and yeah we can't explain it except for what happens and he doesn't look at that that way. His life is a mess it's always been a disaster and the Mac proper made it that way to hide. We know about the back proper and what they're doing and we are taking measures but in a serious note we do understand the timing has to be quick and he has to go through characters like crap through a goose. He doesn't want Mac as president he's going to get his ass kicked by both empires he believes that he's probably right. So he wants to work on Camilla and she is considered to be a weak link already because it's a woman and they don't want one as president I guess.
--there's other things going on but this is important and it is pertinent right now and we have to make a point that we are going to be under the gun quite frequently trumps are going to be getting hit and it's up to us to start working now and to do the job and we have to begin it's very important. We do think that Dennis doucette gets harmed and is out sometime real soon we think it would be tomorrow or the day after and that the funeral will be not too long after only days and ordering an evike now would be kind of risky I think it's going to hold off a little and it's not dumb. And we have other things to talk about they're important
--along with Dennis doucette and it's possible to Mars his possible demise his relatives are wondering what is the status of Dolores and what happened with her and my son has a simple answer I went into this group facility for some reason and haven't talked to her so they are upset about it and saying things I'm kind of saying it out of turn. And was thinking if the Camilla thing happens first they're probably not going to mention it that's how it goes and it's actually important because they will disagree with Ken and if it happens with Camilla they'll see who it is and it's a whole different story regarding our son's life and how things go and how is treated and he will get assistance and yeah the wind is blowing it's like a steady 10 mph it's fast enough it comes from the East Coast and the oxygen has been welling for a few days and finally it's getting here and he is sensing it a little his eyes and ears are affected directly and he is getting discharged from there and it is good he says it's helping a couple other things we know your style is rough you're very mean to each other and we reserve a right to protect our son and daughter if nothing but helpful and we are going ahead with that that being said this is going to be a rough. And with Camilla there and Mom not I'm Camila is less out to resist but no she needs the other half that Dolores has and will not allow Dolores to be declared deceased and that's going on so back to Dennis doucette and Paul Uncle Paul hates him and he hates the other idiots who would sit there and try and say dumb s*** about his mom and her son will just tell him she did it again and I didn't want her to wasn't really doing anything anyways. And they know what happened to her and she died they think and he would say that's a really not good and I didn't know about that and nobody told me and they'll be a surprised and he'll say it was all in her side just saying horrible things and left town and didn't tell me and apparently got sick that could have told her there's no air in Utah it's all exhaust but she thought she would have freedom in a good time with John and Ellie and so forth and he feels awful and it's awful and terrible news and he would say it's terrible news about Dennis and Paul is that was not say anything about a will but he would say we're going to put you up and put them to feed you and stuff and pick you up and so forth my son really needs that kind of family treatment and he is having a hard time but the constantly giving him s*** and he's going to say it look I'm not doing good and I should be even in this time we're practically known as because I have skills but nobody can afford it apparently meaning it is tough to replace someone who is very good at it and I'm very good at what i do and he is. There's a few reasons why they don't like it but what he says is it's right where it should be in the tech triangle and it was hard to do. But that's what it is so yeah she knows what the saying stuff but really it's kind of true that's all not hard speaking the truth and they'll probably ask him and yeah Dennis has money and Paul might tell him about it because he's trying to get him money and it's never working so that might happen pretty soon really soon and in just days but really cocaine bear has to happen first it might push it out to November because there's a different date for Trump but then again you go back to the fact he's trying to weaken them and take the characters down at the end of November it's December and then part of January and it's over so yeah he's got that in mind and mid November makes sense so we're going to help our son and we are going to get to things today

To organize a National Eucharistic Congress in 2024, the Catholic bishops in the United States have partnered with an event planner who was accused of charging exorbitant rates during the preparations for Donald Trump's presidential inauguration in January 2017.
The bishops are also relying on conservative Catholic organizations to provide funding and create catechetical and promotional materials for a multiyear National Eucharistic Revival that will lead up to the four-day congress in July 2024. The bishops intend to set up a nonprofit organization to handle logistics and raise $28 million over the next two years to hold the event in downtown Indianapolis.
...
"This should be the kind of thing we can all unite around. If we can't unite around the Eucharist, and Jesus' presence in the Eucharist, I don't know what we can unite around," Matt Manion, director of the Center for Church Management at Villanova University, told NCR.
But some other liturgists, sacramental theologians, lay Catholics involved in church reform movements, and clergy abuse survivor advocates question the revival's premise, its price tag and the prelates' motives.
"You had low Mass attendance long before COVID that coincided with finance and sex abuse scandals. But the bishops think [confusion about] the Eucharist is the cause for the disaffection? Really?" asked Donna Doucette, the executive director of Voice of the Faithful, a reform group formed in the aftermath of the revelations of clergy abuse in the Boston archdiocese in 2002.
Jesuit Fr. John Baldovin, a professor of historical and liturgical theology at Boston College's School of Theology and Ministry, told NCR that previous public opinion polls, including an oft-cited August 2019 Pew survey, do not support the argument that emphasizing the Real Presence will draw fallen-away Catholics back to church."
The real question, I'd say, is not exactly the Eucharist," Baldovin said. "It's the credibility of Catholicism."
...
Arguably the most difficult aspect for the bishops in marketing their project is the congress' estimated $28 million budget. That figure prompted Archbishop Timothy Broglio of the U.S. Military Services to ask Cozzens at the conference's fall 2021 general assembly how the bishops could successfully market an initiative with a price tag that would seem "scandalous" to many Catholics.
"That's my budget for four years for the archdiocese, and I would imagine in much smaller dioceses, that probably represents much more," Broglio said.
...
The congress will take place during the height of the 2024 presidential campaign season. The Democratic and Republican nominating conventions are usually held during the summer.
Bishop William Muhm, an auxiliary for the Archdiocese of the Military Services, suggested last November that the bishops' conference reach out to both political parties to ask that they not schedule their conventions the same week as the eucharistic congress, to not make it appear that the bishops were trying to "politicize" the Eucharist
...
Despite the promises of best practices, transparency and spiritual returns on investment, the scope and expense of the eucharistic revival and national congress remain a tough sell to many observers."
They'd be better off putting that money into improving the quality of the celebration of the Eucharist, and of preaching. Then you'd have something to work with," Baldovin of Boston College said.
Deborah Rose-Milavec, co-director of FutureChurch, an organization that advocates for reforms in church governance and practice, said, "To put that kind of money into a revival for [the bishops'] image and their authority is a really sad chapter in a very long history of this group of bishops leading the church wrongly."
Terence McKiernan, co-founder of BishopAccountability.org, a website that tracks the bishops' response to clergy sex abuse scandals, told NCR he believes the $28 million expense will be "galling" for clergy sex abuse survivors, unless the bishops act concretely in the next couple of years to prove they stand with survivors.
"The last thing you want is for a celebration of the Eucharist to look like conspicuous consumption at the expense of survivors," McKiernan said.

"Quantity of Food Taken By Thieves," Hamilton Spectator. March 29, 1943. Page 7. ---- Stolen Car Abandoned After Load Is Removed-Several Vehicles Recovered ---- A total of six automobiles were stolen in Hamilton on Saturday, but all but two have been recovered. The most unusual theft occurred on Sunday afternoon, Solomon Snyder, of Kitchener, while visiting friends here, put his car in a public garage to be repaired. Later in the day a stranger entered the garage, demanded the Kitchener car, paid a $2 repair bill and drove away. When Mr. Snyder returned for the machine it was gone and police are now searching for it.
Rozi Doucette, 388 Tragina avenue, reported that his car was stolen from Hughson street north, near Cannon, on Saturday afternoon. It is still missing.
William Lamont, of Ancaster, informed the police his car was stolen while parked on Central market. It was recovered yesterday near Burlington, but nine dozen of eggs and two pounds of butter from the rear seat were stolen.
Elmer Muha, 181 Jackson street west; Sergt. William Daines, of the Army Trades School, and John Luzanyen, 503 Kenilworth avenue north, also reported their cars stolen, but they were recovered within a few hours.

We have word that two letters have made it into Florida and there are two at Sun and it looks like they're from relatives. And it might be John Gallagher and Ellie and he did this before and they were used to stop it. The other one is from a doucette that's Uncle Paul and they sent it the other day taking they get it here no they heard about it and thought got to send one cuz they know him and they did not think that so many are being sent John checked it this morning cuz someone said his letter just almost there and they put it in yesterday after the hubub. Obviously I know what money is there's a lot of people who don't get it then it's the people here thinking they're extorting something thinking they can force their way into office different people and Garth s dirt poor and our son understands it he's running but has no chance. Don't bite and sees this and he's saying this there's a lot of them going after each other in the same clan. It is a nightmare he says, and he also says these guys are done. Then says he's never seen this many letters in his life. And there are cops at the post office. Making sure that the mail goes through as you get here there's less of it that makes it there's only four routes one of them is the airport that place is swamped this morning with people fighting over it and they're getting arrested and the money is being put in safekeeping. I'm one of the two letters that made it from relatives there are three letters and they are from the government in the same social security and it is and it was drafted yesterday and they're not negative but people want to switch the letters out and we saw them draft it and they're trying to get money here and they're trying to use the code and it is Terry cheesman and it's Trump and Dan and they're trying to send code to say to grab him now and the three letters are from social security stating his income for next year to reinstating it and also about an upcoming award and it is not a cola that's on the amount that he's going to get and that's what's coming and the two letters and a third letter is coming from Mount Rose. And it's Aunt Rose not Montrose and that's kind of weird. So there are a few other relatives who are thinking about it. And there's a lot of other stuff happening but that's very interesting to people and it's going on now there is fighting at the post office and a lot of them and people want their letters to get through it's not every post office where people are sending to our son and it is not prevalent throughout the whole country but there's probably four City areas that are doing a lot of it and they know who he is and it's coming from California a lot New England one place in the south and one in the Midwest as his brothers following and there are several who sent it like certified and it came back and it said something stupid on it then it went in and they talked to the post office and they said we don't send mail there they said yeah you do it's going all day long so they get an arguments and they try and send it UPS and FedEx DHL special courier air mail some people are trying to hand deliver it there's a lot of people coming up here to try and hand deliver money and more than $10 they want to donate hundreds of thousands and so we can have things and they of course would probably get something and we would see what they're doing and how we can help people want cars and they want to do car plants and they want car dealerships and we help people get those things and factories and we should we shall see how this goes didn't know who's blocking it and it is of course social security people and Jason but besides that it appears to be the max and that's different
And there is an award letter and he thought that there would be next year's amount oh he thinks that the cola does come on there and it does and people telling him it does and there's three letters reinstatement the amount for next year including the cola but then he said there's a separate letter for the cola and that's what it is and Ken is aware of it and he is as well and this is to cover it up as well but there are letters heading towards depew and they'll give them to Ken and he'll send a letter back and see him down here now and send them a little back Loma Williams and she is a girl from Stoner group and she's going to send that out tomorrow and she is laughing and she said well I postpone that didn't I no thank you no thank you no thank you that's what she's saying to them finally she has to send it and he doesn't mind because more people can send and Aunt Rose then they'll say it's a ton of letters. So bja is thinking of sending a letter because stuff has happened and he's upset about it it is upsetting but he's trying to handle it man handle it so it's going on now interesting news though and color is only like 1% or something or this year it's not much money but they increase the amount by a hundred bucks or something. He needs that and admits it but this funding question is getting to be very big and a lot of people are starting to hate these people they are checking who it is and they are checking who's doing it and there will be a war over Christmas cards and he's thankful that people are doing it and he wants to remind people did the Christmas card as long as you don't write something rude can men defense and a friendship and it has before in his life and it has before the other way around and he learned that from his parents and it worked a lot so we're going to say God bless two hours and let's have a safe day and get some work done

She played Audrey Simmons on “The Lucy Show” but when Lucy Carmichael moved to California, she played Mary Jane Lewis, the actor’s married name and the same one she uses on all 31 of her episodes of “Here’s Lucy. Her final acting credit was playing Midge Bowser on “Lucy Calls the President” (1977). She died in 1999 at the age of 83.
Marc Lawrence (Ruby, right) appeared on Broadway in three plays with the Group Theatre. On screen, Lawrence specialized in playing gangster roles. He previously played a mob boss in “Lucy and Ma Parker” (S3;E15). Coincidentally, between 1969 and 1974 Lawrence appeared in three episodes of “Mannix.” John Doucette (Vernon, left) first appeared with Lucille Ball in The Fuller Brush Girl (1950). In 1973 he did one episode of “Mannix” with Mike Connors.
Robert Foulk (Policeman) played the policeman on the Brooklyn subway platform in “Lucy and the Loving Cup” (ILL S6;E12) and a Los Angeles Detective in “Lucy Goes To A Hollywood Premiere” (TLS S4;E20). This is the fourth of his six characters, but his first of two policemen on “Here’s Lucy.”
Vince Howard (Policeman) was much more at home in hour-long crime dramas than in sitcoms. Many of his 125 TV and film credits were as law enforcement officials. Howard also played a policeman on “Lucy and the Ex-Con” (S1;E15). He did three episodes of “Mannix” with Mike Connors, one of which first aired three weeks after this episode of “Here's Lucy.”
The voice of the telephone operator was done by an uncredited performer.
“Mannix” was an hour-long crime drama that was saved from the scrap heap by Lucille Ball when she was in charge of Desilu Studios. CBS planned to cancel the show after one season, but Ball used her influence to convince them to renew it with the assurance that changes would be made. In the second season, Joe Mannix was changed into a more hard-boiled independent private detective. The changes worked and the series became a big hit running for eight seasons. It was the last successful TV show to be produced by Desilu. Lucille Ball's sitcoms shared many cast members with “Mannix”:
Monty O'Grady, Paul Picerni, Peggy Rea, Jay Novello, Ruth McDevitt, Elsa Lanchester, Maurice Marsac, Milton Berle, Howard Duff, Claude Akins, Rich Little, Natalie Schafer, Ruta Lee, Parley Baer, Army Archerd, Lurene Tuttle, Herbie Faye, Gail Bonney, Vivi Janiss, Stafford Repp, Boyd 'Red' Morgan, George DeNormand, Hans Moebus, Murray Pollack, Sig Frohlich, Shep Houghton, Jonathan Hole, Leoda Richards, Jack Berle, and Hayden Rorke.
This was the first episode filmed at Universal Studios after Lucille Ball Productions (LBP) left Paramount (formerly Desilu and RKO). Because “Mannix” was property of Paramount Television, not LBP, the series stayed at Paramount Studios for the duration of its run.
Harry gives Lucy's address as 4863 Valley Lawn Drive. She gives her Zip Code as 91041, which puts it in Sunland, California. She describes her home description as the second house from the corner, pink with blue shutters, with a big tree (named Irving) in the front yard.
Harry tells the crooks that he is claustrophobic. In real life, however, it was Lucille Ball who had claustrophobia, although she conquered it if she thought the comedy would benefit.
In this episode, Lucy becomes a plant lover who talks to her plants. Their names are Ruthie, Hugo, and Priscilla. Ruthie meets an untimely end in an attempt to stop a robbery.
In the episode's first half, Lucy, Harry, and Mary Jane talk about a policeman named Officer Maginetti. It is never stated if either one of the policemen in the final scene is named Officer Maginetti or not.
A distracted Lucy misses watering her plant and pours water into Harry's hat instead. When Harry puts it on, naturally he ends up soaking wet! Harry being wet is a staple of the “Here's Lucy” series.
Lucy mentions an Aunt Isabel. Mary Wickes played Isabel (above), another secretary in Lucy's building, in two previous episodes, but she was not Lucy's aunt. Wickes also played Lucy Carmichael's Aunt Agatha on “The Lucy Show,” but no character named Aunt Isabel has been seen (as of yet).
While tied up by the crooks, Lucy mentions the gangster films Little Caesar starring Edward G. Robinson and Angels with Dirty Faces starring Jimmy Cagney. Cagney was mentioned in “Lucy and Carol Burnett” (S3;E22, left) and Edward G. Robinson made a cameo appearance in “Lucy Goes To a Hollywood Premiere” (TLS S4;E20, right).
Lucy and Mannix are held hostage in a tan stucco house at the corner of Shelby and Fountain.
Crime has been the source of many “Lucy” sitcom episodes in the past:
“New Neighbors” (ILL S1;E21)
“Too Many Crooks” (ILL S3;E9)
“Lucy Cries Wolf” (ILL S4;E3)
“The Great Train Robbery” (ILL S5;E2)
“Lucy and the Great Bank Robbery” (TLS S3;E5)
“Lucy Makes a Pinch” (TLS S3;E8)
“Lucy's Impossible Mission” (S1;E6)
“Lucy and the Ex-Con” (S1;E15)
“Lucy and Viv Visit Tijuana” (S2;E19)
“Lucy’s Burglar Alarm” (S2;E7)
“Lucy and Wally Cox” (S2;E21)
“Lucy and Ma Parker” (S3;E15)
and even the previous episode, “Lucy and Harry's Italian Bombshell” (S4;E3), had Lucy and Kim encountering a burglar!
Doors! Doors! Doors! The door behind Lucy's desk at the office has changed from leading to another room to a closet. The door behind Harry's desk was originally a closet but was later transformed to a bathroom.
Wallpapered! Since the last time we saw the Carter home in “Lucy and Aladdin's Lamp” (S3;E21), there is new bright green wallpaper on the staircase. This may have been changed during the move from Paramount to Universal.
Where Do I Live? In “Lucy and Harry's Tonsils” (S2;E25) Harry gave his address as 4863 Valley Lawn Drive. This is the same address he gives the crooks when they ask where Lucy lives.
“Lucy and Mannix are Held Hostage” rates 4 Paper Hearts out of 5
The most unusual thing about this episode is that Mannix, a television character, lives in the same fictional world with the Carters instead of being Mike Connors, an actor and celebrity. Connors handles the physical comedy really well, and Lucy is a good match for him in the acting department. This is the second time “Here's Lucy” has used one of its own shows as the basis for an episode. They first tackled “Mission: Impossible” but changed all the character names from the series. It's too bad they never go around to doing a “Star Trek” parody!

The Lonely Man - Disfunctional Family Western
Unusual chance to see Jack Palance in a starring role. He plays an aging notorious gunslinger/outlaw who reconnects with his grown son who he hasn’t seen in 14 years. The old tried and true plot line about the bad guy who tries to ‘go good’, but his past won’t let him, but this one with a psychological angle. From the way the romantic tensions are played out between Palance’s woman and his son, you can see the ending coming from a mile off. Palance will eventually die sacrificially so his son can live ‘the honest life’ and make up for the past wrongs. Decent cast, and a good final showdown, but Palance’s acting is a little wooden throughout, and Anthony Perkins more than makes up for it in twitchiness.
