drawn for day 6 of the @june-doe-event - Swapped roles! I have an actual AU that I've been thinking about for the past week or two, and I'm going to talk about it below.

Ocean - The Most Imaginative Girl in Town. She's doomed from the start. she imagines a better world, a world where she's a leader and everything goes the way she wants it to. But in reality, she "will never leave this town at all," so to speak. During her time in the warehouse, she taps into the side of her in canon that feels distraught and helpless, the part that spirals into the "we're all just starfarts!" rhetoric. Due to her being so religious, she understands that this was the time for her to die, she's just having a REALLY hard time accepting it. She concedes not because she wants to, but because she knows this is her end. Her song is a poppy tune with secretly dismal lyrics about how no matter how hard you try, death is inevitable. Noel - The Most Ambitious Boy in Town. His ambitions to get to France are very strong in this AU. He works insanely hard to get out of Uranium. He didn't get to have a life where he was himself, poetic and out in the open, and that's his main drive for wanting to go back. I think his song is pretty much the same as in canon. Mischa - The Most Romantic Boy in Town. Mischa was adopted into a good adoptive family who decided they were going to give this obviously troubled teenager a safe, stable home. They provided him with a trusting, loving space, and his adoptive father taught him how to play the acoustic guitar. Mischa still finds Talia online through youtube and their relationship is the same. Instead of hip hop and rap, he mostly writes love songs and Ukrainian folk music. Instead of two songs, he has one about Talia and his love for her and need to be with her.

John Doe - In this AU, Ricky is a John Doe. The authorities were from out of town and wanted everything to be over with, and didn't understand ASL, so Ricky was left unidentified. His head is an astronaut helmet with cat ears that he made himself (sculpted the ears out of foam and clay and glued them to a normal helmet before painting it purple) Before his song, Ricky usually signs rather than speaks. Penny is the only choir member to understand ASL because it was taught in Elysium, which means that the rest of the choir can't understand Ricky unless she's interpreting. He has no voice and he doesn't know why. Ricky's song is about feeling misunderstood with no way to be understood, because he doesn't know who he is. He can't voice his feelings because he doesn't know them.

Penny - The Nicest Girl in Town. The town perceives her as "easy", easiest to bully, easiest to forget, easiest to ask for the science homework from. They label her as the nice one bc she's gullible enough to fall for it. Swap Penny is a pushover, and her need to be liked is much more prevalent here. She's desperate for positive attention, and her bullies label her the nice one to get away with using her. Her song is more about her life and how there's so much more to her than what the town perceives her as. She still has her dolly in this AU, and gives her to John as a birthday present. She and John actually become good friends throughout the course of the warehouse.

Constance - The Angriest Girl in Town. She was treated the same way she was in canon, but in death she lets loose and reveals her true emotions about everything. She's done with being a doormat. She's dead! Who cares anymore? She's dead and she spent her life catering to Ocean, and she's not going to spend the afterlife the same way. Constance says "fuck it" and lets her real self show, and I love her for that. She gets two songs - one that's really just a big vent session, with a punk rock theme where she gets to just let loose, and Sugar Cloud, where she talks about how life wasn't all terrible. I think she still has her realization in the middle of death that life was worth loving, it just comes along with realizing that life is both the good and the bad, that it's okay and even deserved to be angry.

I've seen many Alternative Jane Doe and John Doe ideas, and they're all GREAT.

But I have a really cool idea for a John Doe Ricky AU:

What if he THINKS he has memories, but they're actually the things Ricky used to imagine.

He says he was a 'Space Age Bachelor Man', who died shortly after coming back to earth, and that's why he doesn't remember his time there.

He signs about Zolar (in a more PG way for my own personal reasons) , the Cat women, the war he stopped between K-9 and Zolar with the power of love.

The others don't know if they should say they think he's making this all up. He's kind of unnerving, contrasting with how happy he is when telling his stories of Zolar

Then, after Penny's song (assuming she still died but has her identity), it's his turn.

He excitedly pulls the leaver, ready to see his life, his time on Zolar, maybe even the details of his time on earth, then-

Nothing.

Absolutely nothing.

Nothing about Zolar, nothing about earth, nothing about his life. Nothing

That's when reality hits him.

He's dead. He doesn't have any identity. Zolar wasn't real, it never was.

All he knows is true is that he lost his head on the Cyclone.

Imagine Jane Doe is John Doe but Penny is actually a trans girl but she doesn't have a chosen name yet and Ricky/Savannah gave her their name and then when "John Doe" comes back to life Karnak says "Savannah Potts" because she remembered the name Savannah and it became her preferred name because it was the first time she was referred to in a femenine way.

Character stuff under the cut-

Mischa-Jane doe: pretty much everything I’ve talked about in my JohnDoe!mischa posts (separate au). Head rebuilt by parts of his phone. No memories except for the faint knowledge that he was in love with someone (doesn’t remember who tho).

Constance-Noel: still sweet but a little less of a pushover. Feels like she should be more and wants to move to Hollywood and become a star. Defends herself more and doesn’t take bullshit but is very friendly if you are. 

Noel-Constance: ricky’s friend in this au- the parents putting pressure on him to “fit it” in kicked up a ton here. More to himself because he’s scared of what people will think of him. Just wants to be able to go full out on who he is and wants to be. (Still wants to be Monique). A lot more shy and less sassy but will not hesitate to defend his friends. 

Penny-Ricky: went nonverbal one day when she was younger and hasn’t spoken since. People tend to baby her and push her to the side because of this which makes her upset. She has a lot to “say” but nobody will listen to her. (Good thing she has ezra but that’s it).

Ricky-ocean: he always felt like he had to be perfect to make up for who he was. Him being unable to reach that perfection has made him a little bitter and gets angry when he feels someone his challenging the fact he’s perfect. Is a more of a teachers pet and secretly wants to just be himself cut his strive for perfection won’t let him.

ocean-Mischa: tired of her parents and everyone not caring about how hard she tries she’s sorta just- given up. Gets into trouble a lot to get some semblance of attention which she wouldn’t get otherwise. Still a know it all but is alot more jerky and angry about it. Acts like she doesn’t care about anyone when she really just wants to be loved.

if your ricky potts was a john doe, what would his head be?

Oooo good question. I've seen ideas where it's a cat plushie or an action figure, but I like the idea that it's a space helmet. With all the space metaphors in the show, if they keep that up with a Ricky John Doe, a space helmet would make sense. We had two space helmets in the show already so Ricky could've worn it instead of the boys.

Alternatively, i think having the head of a ventriloquist doll would fit for Ricky. I play it up more in WTWN, but since Ricky was mute until the afterlife, who's voice is actually speaking? It's like the songs and dances are forced out of him. A ventriloquist doll would work well for our show in particular, since our TBOJD has puppet-themed choreography.

But what do you think? I'm open to ideas

ocean oconnell rosenberg - the rudest girl in town (swapped with mischa)

- ocean is the stereotypical high school mean girl, think regina george. she’s honestly the bitchy-est person ever and would CONSTANTLY make fun of noel but keep him around as her “gay best friend”. she’s fake nice to the point of you wanting to throw up. HATES constance as she’s her “competition”.

noel gruber - the unluckiest boy in town (swapped with constance)

- in this au noels upbringing was very carrie-esc. his mother wasn’t supportive of him being gay and made him pray literally 10 times daily (this kid is like twelve). his dad left when he was around 7 and nearly threatened to send him to conversion therapy and was extremely abusive, so really fun. therefore he never really came out except to ocean, and as a result much much more quiet and reserved then canon noel. he also is MUCH more emotional and instead of angry outbursts he just cries (noel developed DID when he was very young, he made monique as escapism from his mom and she became an introject. he was an unknowing system until he died and found out WHICH WE WILL GET INTO LATER.) the whole “i lost my virginity to a carnie in a” thing is basically “i sold my body for the last year so my mom and i wouldn’t get evicted.”

mischa bachinski - the strangest boy in town (swapped with ricky)

- mischa received MUCH better treatment from his adoptive parents as he came to uranium younger (around 10 or so,) his mother died only a few years after he moved and he was destroyed. so, he forced himself to do well in school and therefore became obsessed with his grades to the point where it was UNHEALTHY. he doesn’t really have a lot of friends and a lot of people in town disregard him for being weird and offkey. noel does admire him a lot though.

ricky potts/john doe - the one unidentified body of the swing amusement park accident (swapped with jane obviously)

- his “head” is an empty astronaut helmet, he uses little jet pack things on his shoes to move around. :) ricky is pretty much nonverbal and given he has.. no face.. he resorts to a thumbs up or down to communicate. ricky doesn’t remember anything of his life, only his love for the stars.

penny lamb - the most obsessed girl in town (swapped with noel)

- this is basically legoland penny but she is 10x more batshit insane. she has an OBSESSION with johnny moon (thanks tammy) and will not shut up. she is a major fucking drama queen who is kind of really sad on the inside? she wants to be a singer and marry him btw

constance blackwood - the smartest girl in town

(swapped with ocean)

- swing au constance is much more confident in herself then canon constance. she is naturally smart, but not a total bitch like ocean was, she’s actually really fucking sweet and people don’t give her shit for it. noel and her are friends and she is the MOST SUPPORTIVE GIRLFRIEND OUT THERE, she constantly tries to get him to end his “friendship” with ocean even though he’s a little delulu. constance is the student council president and wow actually helps the student body? and a great fucking person overall.

monique gibeau - shes just there (I KNOW YOU CAN’T ONLY HAVE ONE OTHER ALTER IN A SYSTEM, LETS JUST SAY WHEN NOEL DIED SHE WAS JUST THE ONE TO BECOME HER OWN IN THE AFTERLIFE?)

- would sell her soul for noel. this kid is her baby brother and would do ANYTHING for him, even killing. she absolutely hated noels mother and father (when he was around) and would front sometimes ONLY to get noel to his room when they were fighting (poor bby would shut down). when they all died she was just kinda there yk, occasionally going full mama bear on ocean yk how it is.
