My Tumblr unwrapped:
Medea at Soho Place. Still traumatised. In a good way.
Maggie Smith lands a fashion campaign.
Kristin Scott Thomas doing a terrible cover of You’re Free by Ultra Nate in Lyonesse at the Harold Pinter Theatre. iykyk.
Barbie movie. At the cinema. Twice.
youtube
The Brandi Carlisle- Annie Lennox collab of my dreams.
youtube
Lindeville and Lindeville live. 90% of my Spotify unwrapped was this album and I’m thrilled about it, but also aware those play counts don’t include how often I played it on the record player. It’s a masterpiece. And everyone needs it in their lives. Lindeville stage musical please and thank you.
Jodie Foster and her abs in Nyad. Little baby-queer me at 20 could never have imagined Jodie would play a sports lesbian one day. What a time to be alive!
Row 10 for Shania at the O2. Queen shit.
Hannah Waddingham here there everyfuckingwhere. It fills my heart with joy when theatre stalwarts get the recognition (and the paycheques) they so richly deserve. Absolute goddess, and the undisputed queen of 2023. 👑🎄

FOM BLOG: FIVE THINGS TO PICK OUT FROM NOTTS COUNTY 0-1 GILLINGHAM
Gillingham moved to joint top of The League Two Table after seven matches played with a very impressive 1-0 away win against Notts County at Meadow Lane as the top two sides in League Two competed against each other, and this match was built up as the best attacking side of the division - Notts County - taking on the best defensive side in the division - Gillingham - and which will come out on top, Notts County’s attacking talent or Gillingham’s Defensive Resilience ??? - and it was defence which came out on top as Gillingham won 1-0 away against Notts County and Gillingham have kept five clean sheets in seven league games, a truly remarkable defensive record.
Here are five encouraging talking points to pick out from Gillingham’s 1-0 away win against Notts County At Meadow Lane……
ONE: NOTTS COUNTY AND GILLINGHAM ARE PROMOTION CONTENDERS THIS SEASON - Regardless of the score-line between both teams at Meadow Lane, and the score-line could have been Notts County 1-0 Gillingham, Notts County 1-1 Gillingham, or what the score-line was on the day, Notts County 0-1 Gillingham, both teams are going to be serious contenders for promotion this season, and you look at The League Two Top Goal-Scorers List with David McGoldrick, Jodi Jones, Alassana Jatta and Dan Crowley, those four are right at the top of that list for top goal-scorers and all four players play for Notts County, and if Notts County wish to add additional fire-power to there squad in The January Transfer Window, then Notts County have the finances to make that happen and sign a striker or another attacking player capable of adding more goals and assist’s to a very impressive Notts County Side.
Gillingham’s defensive record of just two goals conceded in seven league games is remarkable when taking into consideration that Gillingham have already played Doncaster Rovers and Notts County away this season, Carlisle United and Chesterfield were tipped to be playoff contenders this season, Tranmere Rovers were unbeaten prior to Gillingham’s 3-0 home win against Tranmere Rovers, And Fleetwood Town and Morecambe were two long distance away matches where Gillingham kept clean sheets and George Lapslie scored the winning goal for Gillingham away against Morecambe, and what also makes the defensive record also very impressive is that Gillingham kept clean sheets against Chesterfield and Tranmere Rovers whilst playing for over thirty minutes in each match with ten men, and Chesterfield and Tranmere Rovers had the numerical advantage to try and score an equaliser and neither side could score against Gillingham, despite the fact that Gillingham were defending a 1-0 lead with ten men in both fixtures.
Both teams are very different with Notts County exceptionally good at retaining possession of the ball, moving the ball from side to side, looking to play intricate and accurate passes which can and will open up opposition defences, where as Gillingham are organised defensively, but there is a threat on the counter attack, a threat in the final third which was so clearly lacking last season for Gillingham, and whilst Notts County and Gillingham have got different playing styles, Notts County having the best attack in League Two and Gillingham having the best defensive record in the division will surely mean that both sides are going to be contenders for promotion, it’s whether both sides finish in the automatic promotion spots or the playoff positions which is the question which remains unanswered at this moment in time, because we are still very very early on in the season, despite both sides up towards the top end of The League Two Table.
TWO: FORTUNE WENT GILLINGHAM’S WAY - To get a result against Notts County at Meadow Lane, Gillingham needed to be compact and organised defensively, hard to break down, clinical in the final third when chances came our way - And Elliott Nevitt was clinical when he scored that one on one chance to give Gillingham the 1-0 lead - but you also need a bit of luck from time to time to get a result, and that is exactly what Gillingham got at Meadow Lane, Because when Glenn Morris made that brilliant one handed save to prevent Jodi Jones from scoring, Nick Tsaroulla had the entire far side of the goal to aim at to score what certainly would have been the goal to give Notts County the lead, and Nick Tsaroulla decided to go for the harder angle at the near post, and Nick Tsaroulla’s effort on goal hits the post and stays out, and not long after that dreadful miss from Nick Tsaroulla, Notts County create an even better opportunity to open the scoring when Nick Tsaroulla whips in a dangerous in-swinging cross and David McGoldrick, Shadrach Ogie and Max Clark are all competing for the aerial challenge inside Gillingham’s Penalty Area, and the ball drops kindly towards George Abbott who shanks has effort wide off target at the near post, where as, had George Abbott fired an effort across the face of goal into the opposite corner of the net, then Notts County would have opened the scoring for 1-0.
And in the second half, the big talking point was the offside decision for Notts County’s equaliser for 1-1, now this is the state of play for Notts County’s equaliser and why the goal was not given in the end……… If Jodi Jones cross goes all the way through to Sam Austin and Sam Austin scores, the goal counts and the score-line is 1-1, but, if Jodi Jones cross is flicked on by Jevani Brown towards Sam Austin then Sam Austin is offside, Now I have yet to see a clear cut view of the offside goal, And I do completely sympathise with Notts County Supporters because the flag was raised late for offside, but the clarification was needed between the match official’s on who got the final contact on Jodi Jones cross and that decided the goal / no goal decision, I just wished we got a better camera angle so we can have a more clearer idea on the decision, and it was a decision that went in Gillingham’s Favour - But I have got to say that given how late Notts County scored for 1-1, when the equaliser was eventually disallowed for offside, the celebrations amongst Gillingham Supporters in the away end at Meadow Lane was louder then the celebrations for Elliott Nevitt’s opening goal that gave Gillingham the lead in the first half.
And right at the end of the match, Notts County had a great chance to score, Kellan Gordon whips in a fantastic cross aimed towards the far post and Robbie Cundy headers the ball across the face of goal and David McGoldrick gets the faintest of touches to header the ball down towards Jacob Bedeau, and Jacob Bedeau’s effort on goal is brilliantly blocked on the goal-line by Oli Hawkins and the re-bound ricochets towards Jonny Williams who headers the ball out of play for A Notts County Corner Kick, and it is a remarkable goal-line clearance by Oli Hawkins, and you only have to look at Oli Hawkins, Max Ehmer and Glenn Morris and the three of them were committing themselves to prevent Jacob Bedeau from scoring that equaliser for Notts County, but it is a fantastic block by Oli Hawkins, one that has been watched over and over again by many Gillingham Supporters.
But Notts County not taking there chances at 0-0, and they were two clear cut goal-scoring opportunities for Notts County, and with the way Notts County retain possession of the ball, Notts County going 1-0 up against Gillingham at Meadow Lane and Gillingham having to chase the game was not a situation we wanted to be in, and by saying that Gillingham are fortunate or lucky, I am perhaps in someways dismissing and second rating the incredible defensive performance that Gillingham put in against Notts County at Meadow Lane to prevent Notts County from scoring, but the hosts didn’t take there chances, and that was the luck that went Gillingham’s way on the day.
THREE: JAYDEN CLARKE’S BEST STARTING LEAGUE PERFORMANCE FOR GILLINGHAM - Jayden Clarke came on and scored twice as a substitute for Gillingham against Tranmere Rovers when Gillingham won 3-0 against Tranmere Rovers at Priestfield Stadium, And that has been one of the things labelled against Jayden Clarke, that he is a better player when he comes on as an impact substitute rather then as a starting player, but against Notts County, I would say that was Jayden Clarke’s best starting league performance for Gillingham, Jayden Clarke used his pace to go past Jodi Jones, stay on his feat despite being fouled and Jayden Clarke kept going, driving forwards in possession of the ball inside Notts County’s Penalty Area, And Jayden Clarke’s effort on goal was saved by Alex Bass, and the follow up effort on goal by Joe Gbode was also saved by Alex Bass - this is what we want to see more off from Jayden Clarke - take players on, and if your tackled by taking players on, then keep doing it, and eventually Clarke will create a situation like the one he created all by himself, and it was a chance by Jayden Clarke which forced Alex Bass into a save.
And in the second half, Jayden Clarke goes on a driving run forwards in possession of the ball, and Jayden Clarke tee’s up Armani Little, who tried to bend the ball into the top far corner of the net, but Armani Little’s effort on goal failed to hit the target, I also thought that defensively, Jayden Clarke did really well having to mark Jodi Jones, especially when Jayden Clarke was booked in the first half, because we know how good a player Jodi Jones is and to keep him quiet requires a lot of concentration and discipline, and I just thought that Jayden Clarke and Joe Gbode gave Gillingham the option to hit Notts County on the counter attack very effectively.
Eventually, Jayden Clarke had to be substituted with Jacob Wakeling coming on in his place, but that substitution is not a suggestion that Jayden Clarke was playing poorly, far from it, that was Jayden Clarke’s best starting performance for Gillingham in a league game, but with Jayden Clarke on a booking, probably tiring because of the amount of off the ball running he had to do because Notts County do move the ball about very quickly and effectively, Gillingham just needed fresh legs and energy in the wider position’s on the pitch - But that was a fantastic performance from Jayden Clarke and a performance that deserved to be noted and complimented.
FOUR: GILLINGHAM IMPROVING AWAY FORM WITH NOTTS COUNTY WIN - Before The Notts County Fixture, Gillingham had won 1-0 against Morecambe, drew 0-0 against Fleetwood Town and lost 1-0 against Doncaster Rovers, and four points out of nine is not a terrible away record, but there were concerns pre-match about Gillingham’s Away Form, and also, the fact that Gillingham had only scored one goal away from home in three league games.
But winning 1-0 away from home against Notts County is a statement result, it is these type of results which really do show if your team are genuine promotion contenders, and seven points out of twelve is a very decent away form, especially as Gillingham have already played against Notts County and Doncaster Rovers Away, and I much rather Gillingham play Notts County and Doncaster Rovers Away in August and September, then at the business end of the season in March and April.
And three clean sheets in four away league games is outstanding, yes, I have spoken earlier about how fortune perhaps went Gillingham’s way at times at Meadow Lane, but defensively Gillingham were outstanding and there won’t be many teams who go to Meadow Lane and keep a clean sheet against a very good Notts County Side who are exceptional at retaining possession of the ball and playing intricate passes, and the concentration levels required to prevent Notts County from scoring have to be at there highest levels, lose concentration for a moment and Notts County will capitalise and score if your not disciplined defensively.
But this win perhaps makes our away form less of a talking point, the manner of the win, the excellent defensive performance, but also, winning away from home against Notts County is a statement result, it is a result that not only addresses Gillingham improving our performances and results away from home, but it is a result that moved Gillingham up to second and only behind first placed Barrow on goals scored, and ironically enough, Gillingham’s next fixture is Gillingham V Barrow in another top of the table clash at Priestfield Stadium.
FIVE: NO SPACE FOR DAVID MCGOLDRICK TO TAKE ADVANTAGE - Notts County Supporters have mentioned pre-match before Notts County V Gillingham that David McGoldrick has scored goals for Notts County on the edge of the penalty area, But in the matches that David McGoldrick has been able to do that for Notts County, David McGoldrick has played as the attacking midfielder with Alassana Jatta leading the line up-front for Notts County, But Alassana Jatta was unavailable due to concussion protocol, meaning that David McGoldrick was leading the line for Notts County.
But what Robbie McKenzie and Armani Little did really well between the two of them is that they did not give David McGoldrick any space on the edge of Gillingham’s Penalty Area, and Max Ehmer and Shadrach Ogie had to be at there very best defensively for Gillingham to stop the multiple attacking threats that Notts County possess in there side, whether that is Dan Crowley, Jodi Jones or David McGoldrick, all three have been scoring goals on a consistent basis for Notts County throughout the 2024 / 2025 season, and it’s that attacking arsenal that Notts County possess which is why Notts County are tipped for automatic promotion this season.
But it was David McGoldrick and his ability to score from the edge of the penalty area which was one of many talking points, and Robbie McKenzie and Armani Little were excellent in denying that space in-front of Gillingham’s back four, and Max Ehmer and Shadrach Ogie had to be at there very best, and this match required a team effort, and the defensive work, how structured Gillingham were in denying Notts County that space and not giving David McGoldrick the time on the edge of our penalty area was superb, and granted, Gillingham scored first so that gave Gillingham the option to be compact, structured and difficult to break down, but even so, David McGoldrick has scored four goals for Notts County, he is an exceptional player, and to prevent him from scoring for Notts County at Meadow Lane required exceptional defensive work from Gillingham.
ADDITIONAL COMMENT
APPRECIATION FOR GEORGE LAPSLIE AND OLI HAWKINS - George Lapslie and Oli Hawkins have been class for Gillingham Football Club, there professionalism has been superb, both players have scored for Gillingham this season, Oli Hawkins made that crucial block on the line against Notts County to help Gillingham to win the game 1-0, and George Lapslie is starting to put in a consistent run of performances and is probably our starting central attacking midfielder at the moment, both are needed in the squad, both are important players in the squad, and I rather they stay until the end of the season, I think George Lapslie and Oli Hawkins can play a crucial role in our promotion push this season.
If a club came in and made an offer for George Lapslie and Oli Hawkins January, unless the offer was exceptional and too good to turn down, I think Gillingham should keep both players until the end of the season, Oli Hawkins can play centre back and centre forward and provides Gillingham with that versatility, and George Lapslie went from a player who was surplus to requirements to a player who has to start in midfield now, because Bradley Dack isn’t fully fit and Gillingham are being cautious with Dack at this moment in time, and George Lapslie looks like he is ahead of Jonny Williams in the pecking order at the moment, but if you have to make a substitution and Jonny Williams is coming on for George Lapslie, that is exceptional squad depth to be able to call upon from on your substitutes bench.
Because football is a squad game now more so then ever before, clubs are carrying much bigger first team squads now, and you need quality players in your starting eleven, quality players on your substitutes bench, and quality players outside the match-day squad, because it is a long season, you are going to get injuries and suspensions, players will be in-form, and then dip out of form, and you need competition for places to avoid complacency setting in, but in George Lapslie and Oli Hawkins, Gillingham have got two experienced players, two players who were at the football club who played a crucial role in making sure that Gillingham retained our Football League Status, and this season, George Lapslie and Oli Hawkins can play an important role in helping Gillingham achieve promotion into League One.
