No Easy Answers
Columbine sunset by Jack Brauer

"There are no easy answers.
But we should never stop asking the questions." — Brooks Brown
<<<
13 tears counted, 13 lives lost, 13 souls chosen for a greater purpose, (whatever the cost.) We all walk through these halls that were once built up on tragedy. Darkened by the pain, changed by circumstances. They lay vacant and empty. But lets not walk them alone. Meet me half-way you bring a light (a spiritual light), and I'll bring the paint can. And together we can repaint these halls and give them a new name that signifies hope. We have the choice to pick up the torch and make a way for a new light for our guidance and steadfast grace. We have the power to lead through the Essence of our Faith.
We all have the ability
to save or take a life.
Remember,
everyone has a right
to their opinion, and the way
they choose to grieve.
It depends on the person
and how they live to
perceive.
Who is truly to blame
while we continue
to travel down
these darkened
halls
living in shame?
We ask all the
right questions
but one still remains,
in the aftermath
why hasn't anything
changed?
As Brooks Brown
once stated,
"There are no easy answers.
But we should never stop
asking the right questions."
To live a life of
full of compassion,
is my only suggestion.
I really do believe
that we can start
a chain reaction
with love and kindness
or create one that begins
in negativity and ends
in violence.
Are you going to speak up
or remain silent?
"Let's not allow our voices to be silenced
in the tragedy of school
violence."
~ Joanna Stratford
Poem dedication I've written regarding Columbine.
A personal belief of mine is that guns don't kill people, it is the person holding the gun who has the power to take a life. They have the power to pull that trigger. They also have the power to put the gun down, and live a different life that doesn't result in harming themselves or others. When it comes down to gun violence and mental health, both together are a deadly concoction. We need better laws when it comes to gun control and not make it so easy for guns to fall into the wrong hands, and a better understanding on mental health and what the triggers are. Starting with reaching out and putting an end to bullying.I try to think in a compassionate way of what we can do to help a person down a dark path. Understand what lead them to this path and try to give them kindness and compassion. And we all need to do a better job in being more understanding and less judgmental.I don't have answers or solutions to what can help or stop gun violence, but I can offer that compassion is the greatest form of love that we can ever offer in a hurting world.
This is a personal story and something that I have shared:
"When Columbine first happened we watched footage of it as it occurred. My English teacher turned the television on in class and instead of doing assignments, we sat in shock watching what had transpired for the remainder of the period. It changed my life. It really opened my eyes and made me aware of just how real school violence was. I was a junior in Hs. And I was the same age as Rachel Scott. And I always wondered to myself what if it had been my school? What if I was the one that was shot and I was the one that millions of people could see as the police dragged my body across the grass? What if it had been friends of mine that I had lost? Or worse what if I knew the killers, grew up with them and shared classes with them? I couldn’t imagine it. But it made me aware how short life really was. And I realized at a young age how important it was to do your best at being yourself and to reach out to people - all people. You’d never know just how much an impact you can have on anyone. And it’s always the smallest things that matter the most to most people. So when you take a minute or two out of your day to notice or to help someone, you could be making a big change in their life.
"I have never cordoned the actions of those 2 misguided students, instead I try to think in a compassionate way of what we can do to help a person down a dark path to find the light again, so when faced with difficult situations they won't take it out on the wrong people or themselves.Rachel Joy Scott has always been an inspiration in my life and my faith, and I have dedicated many of my past writings to her. But I wanted to make my memorial and poem to include everyone, because I feel that is what they would have wanted.
As Brooks Brown stated in his book: "There are no easy answers. But we should never stop asking the questions."
In the end we can all take or save a life. We choose the path we want to walk down whether that be one full of light or shrouded in darkness. We can all make a difference in the lives of people around us if we make the decision to try.
Remember, "Tomorrow is not a promise, but a chance." Please do your best to live for today."- Joanna Stratford

09.25pm

"For John Everett Millais's Ophelia, Siddal floated in a bathtub full of water to portray the drowning Ophelia. Millais painted daily through the winter, putting oil lamps under the tub to warm the water. On one occasion, the lamps went out and the water became icy cold. Millais, absorbed by his painting, did not notice and Siddal did not complain. After this, she became ill with a severe cold or pneumonia. Her father held Millais responsible and, under the threat of legal action, Millais paid her doctor's bills." 10:55pm

There will be nine new faces when the legislature resumes sitting on Prince Edward Island in the coming months, all from the governing party. The 22 Progressive Conservative seats include those nine first-time MLAs and all 13 incumbents. Three Liberals and two Green Party members also held their seats.
Below are the 27 elected representatives who will make up the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island. The majority increased from 15 seats to 22. Six came at the expense of the Green Party, and one was flipped from Liberal hands. Two other newcomers won seats held by former PC MLAs who did not re-offer.
Rob Lantz, a former leader of the Progressive Conservatives, won District 13: Charlottetown-Brighton. The seat was formerly held by Green MLA Ole Hammarlund, who lost his party's nomination to Janice Harper. A win is a form of redemption for Lantz, who lost the district in 2015 to Liberal Jordan Brown and spent eight years out of politics. He got a warm welcome back in King's victory speech Monday night.
Susie Dillon turned District 11: Charlottetown-Belvedere from green to blue. The seat was formerly held by the Greens' Hannah Bell, who did not re-offer. Joanna Morrison, who won the nomination in Bell's place, finished second.
Barb Ramsay took District 22 (Summerside-South Drive) from incumbent Green MLA Steve Howard. Tyler DesRoches, a former Summerside councilor, took District 21: Summerside-Wilmot from incumbent Green MLA Lynne Lund.
Jenn Redmond, who won the PC nomination by just one vote, was in another nail-biter Monday, winning District 5: Mermaid-Stratford by just 38 votes. Michele Beaton, the incumbent and a vocal MLA for the Greens, finished second.
Hilton MacLennan, who manages the O'Leary Co-op Feed Mill and Retail Store, took District 23: Tyne Valley-Sherbrooke from incumbent Green MLA Trish Altass.
Gilles Arsenault won in District 24: Evangeline-Miscouche, a seat formerly held by longtime Liberal MLA and interim party leader Sonny Gallant, who did not re-offer MacLellan, the Liberal candidate, and finished second.
Robin Croucher won in District 1: Souris-Elmira with 1,593 votes, keeping the seat for PCs LaVie, the MLA for the last 11 years, who made a late decision not to run again due to health reasons.
Jill Burridge kept District 6, Stratford-Keppoch, for the PCs with 1,479 votes. The seat was formerly held by James Aylward, who did not re-offer King the seat but handily won in District 15: Brackley-Hunter River) with more than 68 percent of the vote.
Bloyce Thompson, a farmer who was the minister of economic growth, tourism, and culture, won in District 8: Stanhope-Marshfield with the highest percentage of votes in any district this time - almost 80 percent of the vote. He faced only one challenger, Marian White of the NDP.
Matthew MacKay won in District 20 (Kensington-Malpeque in 2019) with a margin of 76 percent. MacKay held the high-profile social development and housing portfolio and was called upon to find temporary housing for Islanders facing homelessness.
Ernie Hudson won in District 26: Alberton-Bloomfield over Pat Murphy, a Liberal MLA from 2007-2019. Hudson was the King's minister of health and wellness at a time when many Islanders cited health care as the island's most pressing issue.
Steven Myers, most recently the minister of environment, energy, and climate action, won his fourth election in District 2: Georgetown-Pownal with almost 70 percent of the vote.
Darlene Compton, King's deputy premier and minister of agriculture and land, won in District 4: Belfast-Murray River with 1,510 votes, almost three times as many as her nearest competitor, Liberal candidate Katherine Bryson.
Cory Deagle, 31, retains his title as the youngest MLA, winning District 3: Montague-Kilmuir with more than 70 percent of the vote before dissolution was won for the PCs in a byelection in 2020, and cruising to victory in District 10: Charlottetown-Winsloe with more than 60 percent of the vote.
Sidney MacEwen, government house leader before the election call, had a convincing win in District 7, Morell-Donagh, with more than 70 percent of the vote.
Jamie Fox, the most recent minister of fisheries and communities, won his third election in District 19: Borden-Kinkora, well ahead of Matthew MacFarlane of the Green Party.
Jamie Fox, the most recent minister of fisheries and communities, won his third election in District 19: Borden-Kinkora, well ahead of Matthew MacFarlane of the Green Party.
Mark McLane, who was King's most recent finance minister, was re-elected in District 16: Cornwall-Meadowbank. McLane took the seat from the Liberals in a 2021 byelection after Heath MacDonald resigned to run federally. Green candidate Tayte Willows finished second on Monday.
Mark McLane, who was King's most recent finance minister, was re-elected in District 16: Cornwall-Meadowbank took the seat from the Liberals in a 2021 byelection after Heath MacDonald resigned to run federally and finished second on Monday.
The Liberals will form the official opposition, winning the second-largest number of seats, though their leader Sharon Cameron did not secure a seat herself McNeilly returns as the only person of color in the legislature, keeping his seat in District 14; Charlottetown-West Royalty candidate Kristi MacKay came in a close second.
Robert Henderson won his fifth election, taking District 25: O'Leary-Inverness in a three-way race with Daniel MacDonald of the PCs and Herb Dickieson of the NDP.
Hal Perry, who was first elected as a Progressive Conservative in 2011 before crossing the floor to the then-governing Liberals in 2013, was re-elected in District 27: Tignish-Palmer Road.
Leader Peter Bevan-Baker kept his seat in District 17: New Haven-Rocky Point, but just barely. PC Donald Docherty gave him a scare by finishing just over 100 votes behind. Liberal Leader Sharon Cameron finished a distant third.
Karla Bernard, the former opposition critic for social development, housing, and the status of women, kept her seat in District 12; Charlottetown Victoria Park Keizer, a longtime Charlottetown police constable, was a close second.

Calvin Lockhart
Calvin Lockhart (born Bert McClossy Cooper; October 18, 1934 – March 29, 2007) was a Bahamian–American stage and film actor. Lockhart was perhaps best known for his roles as; Reverend Deke O'Malley in the 1970 film Cotton Comes to Harlem and Biggie Smalls in the 1975 Warner Bros. film Let's Do It Again.
Early life
Lockhart was born Bert McClossy Cooper, the youngest of eight children in Nassau, Bahamas. Lockhart's father was Eric Cooper (b. 1912 or 1913– d. 1976), a Bahamian tailor. Lockhart moved to New York City, New York when he was 18. He spent one year at the Cooper Union School of Engineering, then left to pursue an acting career. He drove a taxi and operated a carpentry business in the borough of Queens while trying to establish a career as an actor.
Career
In 1960, Lockhart made his Broadway debut, playing a gang leader in The Cool World, which closed after just two performances. He then traveled to Italy and formed his own theater company in which he both acted and directed, before moving to West Germany and then England, where he landed various roles on British television and small roles in films such as A Dandy in Aspic and Salt and Pepper. The Winter’s Tale, Shakespeare’s Globe [Adanna Oji @AdannaOji]
It is always an event to watch a production at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre where audience alike are thrust into the unpredictability of open air theatre. Whether it be random boeing chinooks flying over-head or the odd pigeon using part of the set as a nest; the audience are in the thick of it in full view of one another with nowhere to hide. All that many theatre's seek to mitigate against; the Globe encourage us all to embrace and enjoy as an integral part of the experience.
And this is, certainly, something the cast from The Winter's Tale advocated, providing us with laughter whilst consistently blurring the fourth wall with enthusiastic interactions with the audience- which, of course, we all relished.
The Winter's Tale, one of Shakespeare's later plays, centres around King of Sicilia, Leontes (played by Will Keen ) and his un- explainable descent in a furious and paranoid psychosis as he convinces himself that his wife is having and affair with his childhood friend Polixenes, the King of Bohemia (played by Oliver Ryan). In order to punish his wife, the King sets in motion actions which have irrevocable consequences and fracture the kingdom to its core.
Sicilia and Bohemia are fictional Kingdoms and it was an interesting the choice of director Blanche McIntyre to have Bohemia depicted as a rural, off the grid, living in the sticks sort of an environment as opposed to indulging, as oft many productions do, in an other worldly fantastical land. This is in stark contrast to the elegant royal attire worn by the court of Sicilia. Their clothes were reminiscent of 19th Century Russian and Mongolian inspired traditional clothes. Though I appreciate the pared down aspect of Bohemia and the costume choices for the two separate Kingdoms; the contrast was confusing, with the inhabitants of Bohemia and Sicilia appearing to look like they were from different centuries rather than lands.
The cast for this production were very strong. Though some stood out more than others, each actor held their own on stage and their voices rang clear within the difficult acoustics of the auditorium. With female dominant cast; I was impressed to see that women performed roles traditionally given to men. Perhaps this was a subversive nod towards the ancient tradition of all roles being performed by men in England century's before? Either way, it was a welcome element of the production.
Will Keen as King Leontes had a way speaking of Shakespeare that was incredibly comprehensive without losing it's poetic quality. Allowing even those most novice to Shakespearean text, which can be quite a turgid and superfluous language to get to grips with, access to understand and relate to it more. The twist and turns of Keen's emotions as well comedic timing brought out beautiful complexities within the character of King Leontes that could so easily be missed and over looked.
Sirine Saba confident portrayal of Pauline was arresting. A bold, astute character with equal stubbornness to rival that of King Leontes, Saba allowed Pauline to be a woman of fire, love and grace simultaneously.
Other notably mentions Howard Ward as Antigonus , the loving father of three who risks his life to save a child and Rose Wardlaw who played multiple roles including the young prince Mamillius and was able to switch between masculine and feminine roles with authentic ease.
Priyanga Burford declared her innocence as Queen Hermione with brave and admirable defiance. A decoration that reminded me of a speech that Queen Anne Boylen gave at court to her husband Henry 8th when she too were on trial for a similar accusation. And when Hermione reveals herself to the King, Burford brings forth a poignant, emotional reconciliation.
Looking around at the audience I was pleased to see a beautiful pebble dash array of ethnicities in pit and the stalls. It is encouraging to see that the Globe are actively working at enriching their audience diversity. Yet the same cannot be said about the casting of the show. It was a shame to not see that diversity reflected in the on stage. If were not for Priyanga Burford the cast would have been solely white - including the and live band who serenaded us also.
As we clapped to the music and dance provided by the cast at the end of the show (which was followed by well deserved rapturous applause) it struck me as being a sadly missed opportunity for this production to use this great stage to authentically reflect the multicultural city it is performing to and in.
Shakespeare is still seen as being a white bourgeoisie canonical text; to be appreciated by a certain echelon of society. Having a predominantly white cast and crew serves to reinforce this rather than confront, challenge and change it.
Moving forward, I hope the newly appointed Artistic Director of the Globe, Michelle Terry strives to bridge the diversity gap and creates an environment that is inclusive for POC both on and off the stage.

We need people who know what it’s like to be broken and broken people don’t judge you based on how broken you are, but they will let you know that no matter how many times the pieces of you have been shattered to bits, they will still be able to be put back together in all the right spots. We aren’t made out of glass for a reason. We can recover. We can learn. We can move on to places where happiness can exist and love can be shared." - Joanna Stratford - - - Share this with someone whom you think needs to read this! ❤️ - - - What comes to mind when you see this? ❤️ Comment below! 👇 - - - #arttherapy #arttherapie #arteterapia #mentalhealth #arts #psychology #artheals #mindfulart #therapy #drawing #heal #healing #psychiatry #carljung #jungian #poetry #poem - - - 🎨:@ascendingstorm (at Uzbekistan Tashkent) https://www.instagram.com/p/CEosrM9p5_l/?igshid=mp3s2xouoqz2

The juxtaposition of precise, inline, custom sans-serif logotype alongside the loose, honest and local market qualities of Joanna Basford’s hand drawn illustrations—bound by a bright neon red—delivered a simple communicative duality and stylistic impact that was reflective of the modern restaurant environment and quality food experience of both PizzaLuxe’s Brick Lane and Stratford spaces.
The bold colours, punchy typography and playful drawings drew me into this one, I love how they all work together creating a fun and creative identity for this pizza restaurant. The menu is also of a much different format to what you usually see, with its form working well with the bold inline type its like they designed the menu around it.
