The Office Viz
I am excited to announce that I published my first Viz on Tableau Public!  The topic of this Viz is based on NBC’s hit television show The Office.  Not only am I a big fan of the show, but I am also a big fan of data/analytics and wanted to create a Dunder-Mifflin themed Viz!
I organized my process into three steps: the data, design, and dashboard.Â
Step 1: The Data
Finding and compiling the data for this Viz was the most time consuming part of the process. Â This is because I had to start from scratch (aka a blank Excel sheet). Â Luckily, I am very familiar with the show and knew exactly the type of information I wanted. Â I gathered the data from IMDB, NBC, and multiple fan pages that are devoted to the show. Â To ensure validity, I compared the information from each of the sources with one another. Â This part was tedious and tested my level of patience because I was eager to play with the data on Tableau.
Step 2: The Design
Prior to designing my dashboard, I analyzed and played with the data on Tableau. Â I did this because I did not want to design a dashboard based on findings that were not significant (and I also could not hold in my excitement any longer). Â After I identified the aspects that were interesting, I let my creative juices flow and designed a wireframe. Â Some people like to just wing it when they make a dashboard, but I prefer to brainstorm multiple design ideas and incorporate the best ones into my dashboard.
Step 3: The Dashboard
I used the wireframe as a design reference when making each sheet on Tableau. Â I also used many action filters throughout this dashboard so that I could display and filter more than one piece of information. Â This was the most exciting part of the process because I was able to see my ideas come to life!
