Kevin Can F*** Himself (2021 - 2022)

Follows a woman (Allison) who is married to the kind of man you saw in every 2000s sitcom - an ignorant, bumbling idiot whose dismissive and malicious behavior is played for laughs. What starts out as a single-camera sitcom with a laugh track when Kevin (her husband) is in the room changes when he's not on screen - then the show is shot on a multiple camera set up like a drama, and follows Allison's real & often terrifying journey to leave her abusive marriage. SO fucking smart, so good. Funny and terrifying and the finale of this show is gonna stick with me FOREVER the pay of was fucking killer.

Please Like Me (2013 - 2016)

This is an Australian show that pretty much no one I know has watched where I live but it is SO GOOD. Someone please watch this so I'm not alone in loving it. Also the theme song is such a bop.

Miracle Workers (2019 - 2023)

An anthology series starring Daniel Radcliffe, Steve Buscemi, and Geraldine Viswanathan. The first and last seasons are my personal favorite, but Daniel Radcliffe is a masterpiece in all four.

According to Goodreads, 77, but that counts a lot of short stories, novellas, and in one case, a serial story where each part counts as a single book.

Lots, but lately I've been thinking about how I've never gotten around to reading A Canticle for Leibowitz, despite being recommended it years ago.

9. A book you're never, ever gonna read?

Harry Potter.

Horror.

One I've recently started to define as vintage fiction--cozy books that are old enough to be classics, but aren't high-brow enough or famous enough to be considered classic literature.

Absolutely not. When I read a book, I want to read it with fresh eyes, as the person I am now, without the person that I was last time chattering in the margins.

The 1995 Sense and Sensibility is one of my favorite movies of all time.

41. If you could read the first draft of any one book, which book would you pick and why?

I'd like to read the original version of Black as Night by Regina Doman, which apparently had an entirely different plot before major rewrites.

I can't pick one favorite! I'll just mention that Wilkie Collins has written some of my favorite female characters in Victorian fiction--Marian Halcombe in The Woman in White is one of my favorite characters ever, and I loved The Law and the Lady mostly because of how much I loved the narrator.

45. Favourite book villain?

One of the reasons Little Town on the Prairie is my favorite Little House books is because of how well Wilder presents Nellie Oleson and Miss Wilder as villains.

Probably the coolest one I've ever listened to was the full-cast audio recording of Fairest by Gail Carson Levine, because it takes place in a world where people often sing in their day-to-day lives, and this audio version has the characters sing all the songs!

As far as ones that are readily available, my favorite is the Jim Dale version of Around the World in 80 Days. That man's range of voices is astounding!

On Librivox, Vanity Fair (Version 2) has the best Librivox narrator I've ever heard. Most of the time, I'm just happy if the narrator pronounces everything correctly, with bonus points if they have a fitting accent. This woman was doing multiple accents!

I don’t think hes one to avidly listen to music. Its rare, and when he does its the middle of the night, and hes sipping tea, swaying back and forth to the music a bit. Hes always alone.

What I've Been Up To This Week

The past couple of months have not been easy and work has been super busy recently, however I still had some good experiences this week. Over the weekend, I visited a new-to-me local Indian restaurant (really lovely food), and I also treated myself to a new book.

All of the Noah Kahan - Stick Season is the album I play on repeat going to work these days

I started listening to Laugh Track by the National on a work friend's recommendation as I do like the National anyway.

I have been listening to Dream Girl Evil by FLorence and the Machine on repeat since it was used in The Other Black Girl TV adaption.

I've been playing Spiderman: Miles Morales - I cannot help but love this game so far. It's really good fun

I started another TLOU rewatch because it feels autumnal to me and it will help with fic research. That's my excuse anyway 😂

I also watched Wilderness on prime, which had some definite potential and great songs in the soundtrack but didn't really work for me overall.

oh thank you <3 who doesn’t like to hear that djjdjdjdj since this ask is very broad i will keep my recs very broad (and recent), but if there is a specific vibe or anything you are looking for you can always say so

so for books i am gonna recommend the green bone saga by fona lee (a trilogy starting with jade city) simply because i read it last year and LOVED it and i don’t see enough people on here talk about it. it’s an urban fantasy mob family saga and it ate HOLES in my brain fr. also finished as long as the lemon trees grow by zoulfa katouh a couple of days ago which was an emotionally taxing read, but really good. i don’t read a lot of ya anymore but this one was so worth it. a classic i recently discovered thanks to jo was women in love by d.h. lawrence. very queer in a ‘noooooo i promise this is not queer i swear pls let me publish this book 🥺🤞’ kind of way. ((also. in my book recs tag you can always find my wrap ups that give you an idea of what i have read an enjoyed!))

i have to admit i am not much of a movie girlie. i mostly watch tv shows and even that i have an on-off relationship with shdjjsjsj but some movies i watched in recent years that stuck with me are everything everywhere all at once, god’s own country,and promising young woman. also the old guard if you’re looking for some action-entertainment. for tv shows the good place is one of my favs. another comedy i enjoyed is the great (only watched the first two seasons so far tho). and i finally watched the bear which was So Good as well.
