As you know, as of last summer I'm doll people. I've posted Julie in her bootleg Yes tee before, but I just got the skirt off etsy and I thought they would coordinate well for some Bicentennial chic. Ever since I got Julie, I've thought about the sort of homemade stars 'n stripes stuff that kids would have worn (/been forced to wear!) back then and wanted something like that for her. The navy floral clogs are from ebay. They're not a perfect match for the blue but I think it's all in the mix. I might also try the hoodie and red flip flops from the 2-in-1 summer outfit with this skirt.
The yellow top and strawberry skirt came as a set, from the same etsy seller. My folks got married in the late '70s and their wedding album is a great snapshot of the time. Particularly I like seeing my cousins, who I knew as cool teens, when they were young kids. One wore a long dress with appliquéd pears, and another had a white pinafore with strawberries over her blue dress. So I also like to find doll outfits on etsy with fruit designs, particularly if they have a '70s-ish retro look. I tried it on my still unnamed* Truly Me 80 and of course she looks terrific in yellow, and the shiny red shoes dresses it up a little. I do think she needs a red beaded necklace or like a red hair scarf to add interest on the top. *I haven't named a doll as an adult, and I want to make sure I give her a good one.

Random (Semi Serious/Adult? Idk) Truly Me Headcanons GO!
1. JLY 8 (auburn hair green eyes bangs, classic) plays a large brass instrument, maybe French Horn. She’s a little weird and doesn’t have a fashion sense, so she wears those classic weird girl black fabric rubber sole clog shoes. She writes fanfiction. She probably grows up to be an English teacher.
2. JLY 21 (pigtails and pin curls, green eyes) is a horse girl and wants to be a dressage teacher. She’s very businesslike and serious, and she intimidates people. But she’s not mean- though sometimes it feels hard to please her.
3. JLY 45 (straight black hair, bangs, dark tone addy mold) has a sardonic and elevated sense of humor she keeps throughout her life. I’m thinking of a specific kind of “too cool for you” internet character, but in a good way. She listens to Lana and was popular on tumblr, but now she’s extremely self aware.
4. JLY 58 (curls, afro, addy mold) is incredibly shy and quite nervous, she’s unsure of herself. She can also be a little too trusting, yet at the same time a hard shell to crack. She doesn’t like to talk about her emotions, but she has a lot of them.
5. JLY 62 (sonali mold, medium tone, mid length dark brown hair w side part) has been under academic pressure since like, day one, and she did well with it- she’s a lawyer now working like crazy, but she never really had a moment to explore herself, so sometimes she seems almost artificially constructed. You can’t figure out who she is on her own time.
6. JLY 83 (tight blonde curls, light josefina mold, brown eyes) is a perfectionist, and group projects with her stress you out. She delegates responsibility well, but everything has to be done according to her specifications, and you’re not sure you’re up to the task.
7. JLY 56 (Lanie lookalike) does some kind of weird sport like shotput or long jumping, something within the field part of track and field. She’s good at it, too. She’s always cheerful and energetic. She’s very predictable and maybe a little basic- you could guess her Starbucks order from looking at her.
8. JLY 25 (classic mold with dark eyes, dark hair) immigrated from somewhere in the Caucasus and ending up fitting well into American culture, becoming a fashion forward, culture conscious young adult. She kept her accent, though, and you can tell she doesn’t try too hard to Americanize- she likes being a little different and enjoys different perspectives. She always has her nails done.
9. JLY 18 (Addy mold textured hair with bangs) She cut those bangs herself and doesn’t know why, because she’s been growing her hair out since forever.
10. JLY 53 (light josefina mold, blond shoulder length hair, brown eyes) is blind and has been since birth. She’s majoring in some form of art, maybe ceramics, and she’s really into creative design of everyday items- mugs with thumbprint holds, shelves that fold out of walls, custom plates with chip and dip holders.

Hot Chocolate
Pairing: Bucky x fem!reader
Au: 80s rockstar
Summary: Y/N is the reason for the drummer's smile.
Warnings: no hate to Sharon Carter.
A/n: same drill; PLEASE DON'T STEAL MY WORK. Ily, Jly.
xxxx
Y/N's eyes met those of the drummer, baby blues not as nitid as always. He played the drums with passion, giving his all, but it was clear to the fan that something was going on in his life.
When the show came to an end and the band members were thanking and greeting the crowd, the drummer was much less talkative. His eyes met Y/N's for the second time that evening, and he gave her a tired smile, she gave a warm one in return.
The musician did not think much of her after the show, his mind keeping him preoccupied with the scandals involving his fiancée. He read another article in the newspaper beside his bed, refusing to believe what he saw and read.
As he was falling asleep, his mind flashed with the face in the crowd, her warm smile comforting him into sleep. The following day, he went to a cafe near the hotel. He stood in line, contemplating additives or not in his hot chocolate. When he sat at a table, awaiting his hot chocolate, his veins ran ice cold.
He saw familiar blonde hair, that same large nose, same shade of red lips, smiling at another guy. Her hand was on the upper arm of the other guy. Bucky watched as the man tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. His appetite for the hot drink vanished as he watched the interaction.
He felt angered when his vision got blocked by a figure. The waitress put his hot chocolate down and a few bowls of self-catering toppings. He thanked her quietly and pulled his scarf up higher. As the waitress moved away, it was like his eyes opened for the first time. There she was. The girl from the show.
As if on cue her eyes met his. Without thinking he gathered his stuff and moved to her "Hope you don't mind me intruding.". She shook her head with a smile, gasping slightly when she saw who it was. "I uh.. you look beautiful, by the way. And uh. I'm James." He held out his hand. "I know." She giggled, taking his hand. "That you're beautiful or my name? I'm hoping both." "The latter, but thank you, James, for the compliment." She smiled at him.
"What brings you to this cafe? Shouldn't you be doing.. you know... band stuff?" Y/N tilted her head with an adorable smile. "Yeah, but we've been here before. I don't feel like touring to the same spot again. I figured it'd keep my mind preoccupied to come here and dang was I right." He grinned.
"James uh, I seriously don't mean to kill the mood.. But Sharon is here. With that guy from the scandal article." Y/N cringed at her announcement. "I know." He sighed. "I'm sorry. Let's talk about something else. Here." She put her interior design book on the table. Intrigued, the drummer took the book, tracing his thumb over her name in the front, before gently flipping through.
"Most trending decor at the moment. And, if you want my opinion, I think it's timeless." Y/N said, tracing her hand over a photograph of a living room. "I agree." James smiled, resisting the urge to lace their fingers together. "You gonna order anything? It's on me." James asked. "Oh no, no, I can't accept that. But thank you." Y/N smiled as she shook her head. James admired the curls that bounced around her face.
"Please, I insist." He said. "Alright then, if you insist. I'll have one hot chocolate, please. No toppings." She grinned. As James turned to get up and place the order, a woman stood before him. A particular large nosed, red lipped blonde, with crossed arms , "James.".

I still very much want a JLY 4 but sadly the prices are way out of my budget. I feel like if I'm paying over $150 for a doll, I might as well be buying a brand new doll. It's insane to me how 4 was produced for so many years and people still act like she's rare. But to be fair there are people like that for every doll line. For example one doll I've been after for a few years now, Living Dead Dolls series 9 Dawn. She was mass produced for a few years and people still ask over $150 for her on places like Ebay and Mercari. Her retail price was $24.99. I hate people who think mass produced dolls are worth a lot or rare. JLY 4 was in production for years! She's just sought after, not rare. There's a difference. I'm hoping to thrift a JLY 4 one day. Or just get lucky and find one for around $80 or less. I want her to make into a mini me so I don't care if her wig is cut or she has silver eye. It's just annoying that people will ask so much for a fairly common doll. Same thing with those people who read those dumb "Your old toys are worth millions!" articles. No, your beat up Kirsten with no accessories is not worth $1000.

Introducing Priya Chakravarti!
Priya is a JLY 80, and she just arrived today. I’m absolutely in love! She’s the 7th doll in my collection, but the first doll I’ve bought brand new as an adult collector. My last new-in-box doll was Esther, who I bought in 2000! I’ve been eyeing Priya for about two months now and I’m so happy that I’ve finally added her to the doll family.
Priya is Indian-American, and I think she lives in the Chicago area…beyond that, I don’t know much about her, but I’m excited to get to know her better!

Full collection of Antonia Snow-Flores, an American Girl. Taos, New Mexico, 1978.
I don’t have a lot of Antonia’s long-term story arc nailed down yet, but I do know where she’s at in her life right now. Antonia is a ten-year-old girl growing up in Taos Pueblo, a place that has been continually inhabited for 1000 years by the Puebloan people. She finds herself inspired by the American Indian Movement, which was at its height in the late 60′s through the 70′s, in making change in her life. She wants to help improve her community as best as she knows how, so she and her friends start a community garden that feeds local families who are experiencing food insecurity. They also raise chickens for eggs, sheep for wool, and bees for honey. When her feet aren’t touching the ground, her head is in the clouds and among the stars. Antonia has been watching and following NASA’s Apollo missions to the moon with great interest, and dreaming of the day when humanity can go farther than the moon or even the solar system. She loves to read, especially science fiction and fantasy. She wants to put her dreams on paper someday and be either an author or a science journalist.
Antonia’s wardrobe has both full outfits as well as mix-and-match pieces. I gave her a variety of shirts and a few pairs of pants and shorts. The clothes of the latter half of the decade are not quite as bright and flashy as the clothes from the first half, and so I didn’t use much inspiration or pieces from Julie Albright’s collection. The exception to that is the peasant blouse and denim skirt, which is Julie’s, and the skateboard outfit, which is my homemade replica of Julie’s. Her purse in the second picture is my replica of Ivy Ling’s accessory. Other than those pieces, I wanted Antonia’s clothes to be different from Julie’s and reflect the trends the late 70′s. She has more muted earth tones and plenty of stripes, floral prints, and corduroy. I looked at lots of 70′s clothing patterns on Pinterest to get ideas for her collection. The only piece here I didn’t make, besides her skates and other footwear and the peasant blouse + denim skirt outfit, is her blue and white pinstriped shirt; that’s an Our Generation shirt. Some of her clothes work well in the 80′s too, so she shares a few of her shirts with Sariah from 1984. You’ll see her collection in my next post.
Antonia is a JLY #11 that I stumbled upon a few years ago after spending months searching for this particular doll, who can be hard to find for a reasonable price. I got really lucky while I was browsing the new listings on eBay very late one night. After spending a while as a modern character, I decided she had a lot more to give as a historical character. She has not been customized in any way. She’s got a dozen different outfits here, so I consider her collection to be complete!

Is it cool if I ask a bunch of specific questions about your dollhouse? Like what did you make it out of? How big is it? How many rooms are there? And how many dolls live in it?
I want to make one of my own... potentially. I'm torn between making one from scratch or getting that one WalMart made through a resale shop, painting over all the details, and re-detailing it myself. ANYWAY, I need ideas and inspiration.
Thank you, sorry for coming in out of nowhere like this! 👉👈

i love talking about my dollhouse, so ask away!
The dollhouse is the way I display all my dolls, as I like displaying them in little scenes. If they are part of my collection, they live in the dollhouse! that means it’s pretty crowded, with 22 different 18 in dolls (two aren’t in the pic bc they’re getting fixed) and one wellie. there are also 3 dolls im actively planning to get (claudie, Courtney, and Cecile), and there are 4 more on my “if I found them for an excellent price I’d totally snag them” list (Kirsten, ruthie, Emily, and luciana). So it might get even more crowded 😅
here’s an overview pic of the current state of it:
Tumblr media
it’s not fully set up yet (as you can tell by the random room full of naked dolls in the top right lol), and most rooms don’t have a proper scene set up atm, but I thought an honest look at what it usually looks like might be helpful lol.
I made it out of storage shelves I bought secondhand. I saw a lot of people making dollhouses online out of bookshelves, but the dimensions just didn’t work for what I was planning. For my plan, the shelves needed to be at least two feet deep (to accommodate beds facing outward), have adjustable shelves (to accommodate the taller furniture), and be either 3 or 4 feet wide to make the rooms large enough for fun scenes.
I found shelves that worked online from hardware stores, but they’d be super expensive, so I set up an alert on Facebook marketplace instead, and got lucky! They weren’t like. Super duper cheap, but they were much more affordable. Because they’re secondhand, most of the floors have a slight dip in the middle, but its not too bad.
The drawback to using shelves with open sides is that you have to make walls, which is really time-consuming (and the cost of materials can really add up!), but it was worth it for me to get the dimensions I wanted. My only real regret is not painting the shelves white before putting them in place. I hate how the ceilings in all my pictures are grey, but at this point it would be really hard to change, as I don’t want to spray paint in my poorly-ventilated basement 😭 The floors are just made from contact paper I got on Amazon and stuck on the shelves, and I’m really pleased with them.
There are nine rooms. Each room is 2 feet deep, 3 feet wide, and about 2 feet high (the heights vary a bit). Overall, the setup is 2 feet deep, 9 feet long, and about 6 feet high. It’s a big boy! Thankfully, there was a nice clear space in the basement for my doll zone, otherwise I never would have been able to have such a big setup 😅 it was really important to me for it to be big, as it’s not just a dollhouse, but also my doll display.
Having a bunch of rooms was really important to me, because I wanted to make themed rooms for a lot of the historical characters. Going across from left to right, top to bottom the rooms are: the modern bedroom (shared by kanani, Jess, Nicki, Mia, and Jessica who is a jly), the 60s/70s/80s bedroom (shared by Julie, ivy, melody, and eventually Courtney - I’m asking for Courtney for christmas so she’s not here yet), a room I haven’t decided about (it was gonna be Kaya’s but her tipi is too big 😭), the 1900s/1910s bedroom( shared by Sam, Nellie, and Rebecca), the 20s/30s bedroom (currently it’s just kit’s, but claudie will share with her when I get her), the 40s/50s bedroom (it’s entirely based on Molly’s bedroom from her scenes and settings, but she also shares with Maryellen and Nanea), the bathroom/laundry room, and the living room/kitchen (which takes up two room slots).
There are some girls who don’t really have a room that fits. Those are Caroline, Elizabeth, felicity, Marie-grace, addy, and josefina. Cecile and Kirsten would also be missing a spot if they were in my collection. Some of them will likely end up sharing the remaining unassigned room, but I don’t think all of them will work in one room. It will probably just end up being like. a very vague fancy historical girls room lol. I mostly want a reason to own Caroline’s bed haha
As far as ideas for your own dollhouse goes - it all depends on how much time you want to spend on your dollhouse build, and the size and shape you want it to be. I wanted mine to be really big with specific dimensions, so I had to go super custom with it. Re-detailing the one from Walmart is an EXCELLENT option if you like the size and shape of it, and/or don’t want to spend forever making pieces of it (I might die before I finish those walls 😭). If you want to do it custom, but don’t care as much about the rooms being deep as I did, I recommend going with a shelf with walls.
I do want to mention that just because you DIY something, that doesn’t mean it will be cheaper (sorry, every diy YouTube channel). The price of a diy project depends on a lot of things, both which you know going in (like your skill level, which limits what techniques you can use for building, and the cost for the basic materials) and things you don’t (like unexpected issues that may pop up, further customizations you want to make later on). That does not mean you can’t make a custom dollhouse on a budget - it just means you will need to plan carefully, find great deals, and spend a lot of time working on it (which can be fun!). Just because it’s not cheaper doesn’t mean it’s not worth it, but price can be an important consideration.

Around The World In 80 Minutes With John Lloyd Young
At this present moment in 2021, it’s difficult to travel around the world.  But during John Lloyd Young’s show tonight, we all got to take a trip around the globe - while leaving our passports in the drawer and our suitcases in the hallway. And traveling the world has never sounded better.
He began the evening with some of our favorites in English.  Some of us just heard “How Can I Be Sure” on JLY’s previous livestream for the first time and fell in love with his rendition - so we were glad that he decided to begin the show with it again.  I hope that “Lady Willpower” is on the new album that is in the works...his impeccable vocals, combined with the emotion and angst that he portrays, makes this version more compelling than the original.  And of course we always enjoy hearing “Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me” - no performance would be complete without it.
Our journey around the world began in Spanish with a beautiful combination of “What a Difference a Day Makes/Cuando Vuelva a Tu Lado”, as he shared stories of being an exchange student in Venezuela and the comfort of learning the language by listening to Luis Miguel records each night.  His next selection was, as he mentioned, quite appropriate for these times - “Contigo a la Distancia (With You at a Distance)”.  This song is the perfect companion to the original “Alone Together”, and quite emotional as we all stay connected to each other from where we are right now, and look forward to the day that we are all together in person again.
JLY continued with “Usted”, which is a favorite of mine, and for so many of us.  Each time he performs it, it tugs at your heart as you feel every single note and word along with him.  Then he ventured back into English for a moment for another all-time favorite, “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You”, which he turned into a fun sing along for all of us.
The next song was in Hebrew, and is the Israeli National Anthem.  JLY explained that the title, “Hatikvah”, means The Hope, and conveys the universal yearning we all have to belong.  There is a recording of JLY singing this one on YouTube that many of us have heard before...but it is so special to actually hear it live, and it’s even more emotional watching him perform it.
At this point JLY took a short break while Tommy Faragher did his solo.  It was such a treat to hear him sing “California Dreamin’”, done in his unique, soulful style.  I hope we get to hear this one when we are at shows together in person again.
JLY came back on stage and moved into his Mandarin songs.  The first one, “Wo Yao Ni de Ai (I Want Your Love)”, was featured in the movie Crazy Rich Asians.  I remember JLY involving us in the audience with this one at Cafe Carlyle a couple of years ago, and it was fun to do this again tonight as a call and response with all of us at home.  The other Mandarin song is a heartrending one -  “Ming Ri Tian Ya (Tomorrow on the Other Side)”.  It’s been a while since we’ve heard this one live, but it’s still as powerful as ever and it brings on the tears.  I could see JLY recording this one as well for a future album.
He told us the story of singing “Ooh Baby Baby” on the trip to Cuba with the arts delegation, performing it for Smokey Robinson and then having Smokey join him on stage to sing it together. It’s always soothing to hear this favorite, and tonight was no exception.  Then we traveled back into Spanish with JLY’s stunning translation of  “Longer” - “ Más Largo Que “.  After that...to Italy with “Parla Piu Piano”, the theme from The Godfather.  You can tell that JLY feels this one in his soul, and connects to his Italian heritage when he performs it - and I hope it comes out to play at shows again more often.
We came back to English for two songs that we love that have become staples at shows. Hearing “Unchained Melody” is always so good for the soul.  And so many of us are glad that “Cara Mia” is in the set more often now...JLY’s version is truly better than the original.
JLY took us back to Spanish one more time with his live version of “Ya Que No Estas Tu (Since I Don’t Have You)”, which is also up on his SoundCloud page along with several other incredible songs. The performance came to a conclusion with more Jersey Boys favorites, “Working My Way Back To You” and “Sherry”, which we always want and love to hear, and completes the evening on a high note. The afterparty made the night even better with fascinating discussions on art, Buddhism, and more.
Until we can literally travel the world again, hearing JLY perform all of these songs is the next best thing.  He is a true Renaissance man, with his fluency in several languages, art knowledge and skills, and in-depth thoughts on so many subjects.  Even the sky is not the limit for him - and I am so happy that we are all on this journey along with him.  Here’s to an even brighter future ahead!

Hey, just going on a long tangent about dolls, don’t mind me.
So like... I’ve always said that I did not want a Tenney Grant doll. I just never really understood the hype about her and didn’t really find her that interesting. Of course now I really think she’s so pretty... that lip shade... the brown eyes... she’s just so adorable! There are so many Tenney’s on eBay and Mercari thanks to the Benefit Sale. It probably shouldn’t, but it honestly makes me cringe so hard to spend $80-$90 on a doll someone got for $40. Maybe I’m being a little silly with that part, though.
Speaking of the Benefit Sale, I have a bit of whining. I think next year, I’d like to connect with someone who would be willing to pick up some items and I can pay the cost + shipping (of course). There were plenty of dolls, mostly Addy, that I was interested in. Now that I have Addy’s Striped Dress in my collection, I really want to put her in it!
In the meantime, I was thinking of turning my JLY 26 (Eliana) into a historical character from the same time period?? I honestly just want more historical girls in my collection. I could finally work on straightening out Eli’s wig, give her a time-era appropriate hairstyle, and go from there. When I get in my “I need to buy new dolls and I need them NOW!” type of mood, I try to alter a doll that I already own, more times than not it’s someone that I’m bored with, and make them into a new character. It has worked so far with helping me to stay engaged with who I have instead of having the constant need to add more and more dolls (even though I REALLY want to! It’s just, yanno, money is not a very plentiful thing at the moment).
One more random thought: I’ve been seeing a LOT of Chrissa dolls online for reasonable prices! I love shorter haired girls. She’s sparked my interest. I love her Meet outfit.
