Jungkook felt frustration take over as he opened the doors to Moon and stomped his way in. The other witches in the store glared in his general direction, taken back by his sudden aggression. He ignored their piercing looks and made his way towards the counter where the supposed owner stood with his back turned. “Excuse me. Are you Seokjin, the owner of Moon?” Jungkook gritted out, clenching his fists. The witch behind the counter nodded and turned towards him, smiling widely. “That is me, yes. How may I help?” - Or Jungkook storms into his rival witch's store to have a "civil" conversation, panics seeing a beautiful man, and drunkenly tells said man that he's cool.

I have written this before - I prefer reading fics than watching videos. So my way of de-stressing is by reading my favorite ship (yes, from John Grisham to Tom Clancy to any other award-winning author, I have fallen down the rabbit hole of shipping).

I honestly do not have any interest in any other ship. I find them cringey because there is no semblance of truth or reality to any of the made-up scenarios. Hence, all my Au bookmarks and subscriptions are about JinKook. No surprise there - my all time favorite authors are jinkook writers.

Yet now, joining them in the high echelon is smiles.

One my tweeter moots raved senseless about how A Gilded World and Stars Lost in the Sea are the best AUs ever written and how, despite, reading them several times in the past year, the same heartfelt emotions would well up. Curiosity got the better of me and downloaded Stars Lost in the Sea on my phone. Of course, being a yoonjin fic, it stayed on my phone for several months unopened.

Yet when I had to keep regular dental check-ups and wait for hours, this yoonjin fic kep me company. And oh boy, what a revelation this fic was. The words flow seamlessly from one line to the next, vivid descriptions flying off the pages in vibrant images, I had no choice but get hooked against my will, trapped in the magical world created by the writer.

This fic is just so, so, good, I have no words to describe it.

This leads me to A Gilded World, hailed by BTS AU fans as one, if not the best, BTS au ever written. Well, should I disagree? In more than a year of reading ffs, this is the first story I came across that had more than 700 thousand hits, several hundred thousands more than the best jinkook au I have come across with.

So, yes, I am a yoonjinist in this yoonjin world by smiles. If only he/she would be writing new ones, or have jinkook main characters? That would be the end of me.

PS: I got confused with the dates. Rather than deleting this, I will just have a double date in one post.

jinkook crack au where when seokjin sees roadkill, he puts his hands together to acknowledge it, wishing for it to have a good afterlife, meanwhile jungkook is convinced that seokjin is some sort of demon because whenever he hears him clap, he sees a dead animal on the road.

so they’re on a road trip, probably in america somewhere, & jungkook rides with seokjin. he’s excited bc he doesn’t have to drive when it’s seokjin. he tries his best to stay awake, but he starts to doze off as seokjin drives. then he hears a clap, his eyes flutter open and he looks out the window. ahead he sees a raccoon that has been left on the side of the road. he sends it a little prayer as they drive past it.

then it happens again. he realizes seokjin’s the one clapping his hands together. and again.

and again.

it’s starting to freak jungkook out as he notices the pattern of seokjin clapping & then the sight of an animal on the road.

is seokjin causing this? are all the rumors true? the rumors that seokjin is some handsome magical immortal being that never ages? & he also happens to hate animals on the road? jungkook sits in the passenger seat, panicking, thinking about all the times he’s teased seokjin.

when they finally make it to their destination, jungkook quickly grabs his things from the trunk and runs to the other members to tell them what he saw, trying to convince the rest of them that seokjin is some handsome demon with evil powers.

(maybe most of the members laugh at him, but some believe him. maybe jungkook is way nicer to seokjin than he usually is during this trip. and maybe seokjin is super confused but doesn’t question it.)

Seokjin’s rapidly pounding feet stopped dead at the doorway. Wide eyes quickly found the man inside, swaying as he gripped the shelving unit tightly with one hand, the other rummaging inside. Jin stared, dumbstruck, until another glass vial plummeted and shattered on the floor.

“Jungkook!” he exclaimed.

The boy in question turned, looking thoroughly disappointed in the jar that was now leaking its purple contents across the tiles. It was lucky Jin had started moving again. He reached the younger boy just as he stumbled backwards, hopelessly overbalanced.

“Careful!”

Catching Jungkook awkwardly around the torso, Jin was alarmed by the way the younger’s head lolled against him.

“What have you done this time? Something stupid, I bet,” he muttered, manoeuvring them well away from the glass shards littering the floor.

Jungkook only blinked, those doe eyes of his glistening.

Seokjin huffed.

“Your silence is very loudly telling me that I’m right.”

“Jin-hyung…”

Jin would be lying if he said Jungkook finally managing some words weren’t like tonic to his frantic heart.

“Yes, it’s me,” he consoled, finally plopping Kook down on a squishy armchair. The boy was heavy, but Jin was too concerned to stretch out his suffering arms, instead crouching and trying to catch Jungkook’s eyes.

“I thought you were just going to spend a peaceful day in the library learning some spells! What happened?”

But Jungkook had nothing helpful to offer in reply. Instead he insisted on staring into Jin’s eyes; rather distracting since he insisted on being so handsome. Scoffing, Jin reached out to grab Jungkook’s cheek, tapping gently to try and elicit some response.

No luck. Jungkook beamed like a child and clutched at the hand, snuggling against it.

Jin hadn’t the heart to pull away, but as he watched he couldn’t help but notice Jungkook’s eyelids sagging, head drooping even further onto his hand. Usually this cute sleepiness would be cause for Seokjin’s heart to do some impressive aerobics, but now it only sent him into panic. It was the middle of the day and something was wrong with his Jungkook.

Looking around, he tried valiantly to ignore the drag of Jungkook’s lips across his palm, and searched the room.

“What were you looking through the shelf for?” Jin asked, “that’s Hobi’s medicine store. What do you need?”

“Hmm. Tonic,” the younger murmured, seemingly only half-conscious. “Had three.”

“Three?!” Jin’s eyes popped from his head, “but they work on everything! Why do you need three?”

“Feel funny… sleepy…”

Staring in horror at Jungkook’s fluffy head as he curled into the armchair, Jin cursed under his breath.

“What have you done-?”

Jungkook had been in the library today. Usually that was a harmless activity, but there had been the odd incident of some of their coven members setting off spells by accident… It wouldn’t be the first time, but the way Jungkook was rapidly losing consciousness still struck a lead weight into Jin’s chest.

There must be a cure. Even if Hobi’s tonic hadn’t worked (and that normally evened out most jinxes) there must be something.

What if it was a curse?

Just as the horrifying thought struck Jin, a tug brought him tumbling against Jungkook’s chest. Even half-asleep, the guy was too strong for his own good.

For a futile second, Jin struggled against the grip. He had to find a way to fix this. But then Jungkook was hugging him tightly, pressing his face into the top of Jin’s head, and Jin was certain someone had lit a bundle of fireworks inside his chest.

Turning his head, Jin came face to face with Jungkook. As if he barely dared believe his own words, he whispered, “Jungkook… I’m going to kiss you.”

The younger stirred, eyes cracking open a fraction.

“Okay?” Jin rambled on, “I’m going to kiss you, that works on plenty of curses… except of course, if I’m not your-“

Not your true love.

The words choked in Jin’s throat, not brave enough to admit the worry out loud.

“Kook? Is that okay? I- I-“

Jin was grasping his jaw, desperate for a sign, but the boy was out of it.

“Please,” Jin whispered.

And then he moved.

Their lips pressed together, a fleeting moment before Jin was pulling away, not continuing for longer than necessary given Jungkook’s state. But all that ran through his frazzled mind was that feeling. He longed to do it again, when Jungkook was awake and well. To feel the same glorious sensation-

But Jungkook was still.

Frozen, Jin stared, every sense strained to detect the smallest indication it had worked.

A smile spread across Jungkook’s lips. Breath left Jin in a gust, dizzy with the weight of his relief. Those lips that had felt so good broke into a groggy grin. Jin wanted to taste them again so badly-

“It worked.”

Jungkook grinned in the face of Jin’s dazed expression.

“What?” Jin breathed.

“I wasn’t looking for a curse exactly, but… I wanted to find out if- if you liked me back…”

Jin gaped. Still wearing that radiant, innocent smile, Jungkook pushed himself forward on the chair.

Jin’s wish came true sooner than expected, their soft lips moulding together in bliss. Caving to his touch, Jin felt pure relief and elation flood his veins, indulging in his love who shuffled closer, pulling their bodies flush.

When at last their foreheads rested against each other, disbelieving smiles on their lips, Jin’s brain caught up with him. He pulled back, shooting a look at Jungkook.

“Wait, if you set off a curse, was the book okay? You know Namjoon would kill you.”

Jungkook grinned.

“It one hundred percent, probably, was.”

“Aish! You’ll be the death of me, brat!”

Ughhhh I got the idea of Shima Enaga familiar Jungkook and his witch Namjoon being wooed by the others in my head and now it won't leave me alone.

Shima Enaga Jungkook is incredibly soft and small as a familiar. A rare type and an indicator of how powerful Namjoon is. Namjoon owns a very popular magic shop.

Jungkook can often be found sleeping in the hood of Namjoon's hoodies or in pockets. He likes to nest in Namjoon's hair, little feet clinging to the strands as he watches everything. Namjoon puts up little rope ladders and netting around the store so Jungkook can climb his way up if he wants, ivy and branches happily reaching down to help the little bird if he finds himself stuck.

He can't fly well due to past injury. His right wing doesn't extend right anymore, the feathers look different than the rest of his body and if you look close enough you could see scars. He keeps the wing tucked in tight and uses the left for everything from keeping his balance to gesturing to things.

He likes to walk around the store. Little stick legs going full speed as he goes from one side to the other or doing little hops that makes everyone coo.

He peeps until people follow him if he knows they need help finding something, tugs on shoelaces when he wants to be picked up, and will carefully climb up shelved until he reaches what he wants. He even helps people check out sometimes, ignoring their surprise as he carefully shifts the coins around with his beak to count them before pushing them off behind the counter into a basket Namjoon leaves out for this exact reason.

He likes to be put in the window when it rains. One of the big windows up front has a little ledge full of trinkets and a woven basket stuffed with small, soft cuts of fabric. He sits there and watch the rain, occasionally chirping a greeting out to the people coming in.

Namjoon is an amazing witch, skilled and powerful enough to be of assistance for almost everything. Sometimes he loses customers though because of Jungkook, because he let his familiar get hurt. Even though familiars are notoriously protective and possessive, very likely to take injury instead of letting their witch risk it.

Namjoon 'should' have known better, aka should have been a better witch.

He doesn't argue with those people. Namjoon waited a long time to meet Jungkook and then he let the familiar get hurt. He's learning to live with that even though the guilt eats away at him sometimes. It wasn't his fault though and Jungkook will attack anyone who says otherwise.

The other 5 are customers. Quickly becoming enamored with the witch, their own magic curling out to brush against his every time they see him.

Jungkook isn't please when they flirt with Namjoon the first time, standing up from his spot in Namjoon's hair and working his way the front and peeping unhappily the whole time.. It doesn't help that they're all cooing over him while Namjoon looks done with everything. He pecks Taehyung when he can't help but reach out, little beak barely big enough to be a pinch.

They've never been side eyed by a bird before but Jungkook slowly warms up to them as time passes. Even letting them help him up or down from spots and eventually clinging to them like he does Namjoon. Sitting on Seokjin's shoulders, in the hood of Yoongi's jacket, in Taehyung's hair, the pockets of Hoseok's sweats and Jimin's hat.

If they plan on courting Namjoon than they also have to win over Jungkook, which wouldn't be an issue but Jungkook doesn't shift. Like ever. They've been visiting the shop for months and still have no idea what Jungkook looks like. Don't get them wrong, they adore the little bird but they want Namjoon to be a part of their cover, they want Jungkook to be a part of their coven.

Witches age differently than normal humans. Namjoon is older than some of them but far from actually being the oldest of their group. Jungkook is young, he hasn't even hit 50 years yet and now he'll live as long as Namjoon since they've bonded.

They could treat that as the main reason Namjoon is so protective of the familiar but there's more to it. A desperation to it that makes them protective of the two without knowing why and fretting over Jungkook almost as much as Namjoon.

It takes time but they get the story. They get told about a young Namjoon so happy to finally have a familiar and Jungkook so innocent and hopeful. Namjoon says they should have paid more attention. That he should have watched over Jungkook better, should have been better but he was young. Rare familiars are worth millions and Jungkook was very rare. They had already bonded but bonds could be broken and reformed. It was risky, more times than not the familiar dying from the stress but people were greedy and willing to risk it.

A group of people took Jungkook, they got close to Namjoon and once they thought they could get away with it they made their move. They tried to break the bond and it almost killed Jungkook. The whole thing ended better than it could have but it left Namjoon overly anxious and Jungkook with a lame wing.

The 5 take a moment to hope Namjoon was vengeful and everyone involved with hurting Jungkook was killed. Hurting a familiar is a huge and unforgivable crime, punishable by whatever the witch of said familiar deems fit.

It's easier to deal with the residual pain as a bird. The wound itself had healed but it left behind heavy scarring and lingering pain. The scaring on his human form was extensive and Jungkook got self conscious of it being so visible.

Namjoon's reluctance to fully let the others in and allow them to court he and Jungkook suddenly makes sense and they're even more determined to win the witch and his familiar over.

Eventually they get to meet Jungkook. Human Jungkook.

One day a young witch and their cat familiar visit the stop, neither one necessarily doing anything wrong but something is heavy in the air. The cat keeps watching Jungkook while the witch looks around. Jungkook sits on the edge of the counter overlooking everything, occasionally giving a little chirp in greeting when some of the younger ones walk by.

They should have done something, should have realized what was going to happen before it did but familiars aren't victims to their instincts. The cat should have acknowledged Jungkook as another familiar and moved on.. but it didn't.

The cat jumps up and just manages to swipe Jungkook with his paw. It's enough to pull him off the ledge. It's enough for a little blood to bead up on snow white feathers. It's enough that Jungkook tries to catch himself and everyone can clearly see one wing doesn't work right, doesn't help him slow down at all.

He hits the ground with a little thump and stays there.

No one even gets a chance to move before everything goes to hell.

The 5 manage to get everyone out quickly, snarling at the witch and the cat to never come back, and close the shop. Puddles soak into the floor and lightning still flashes up by the ceiling. Thunder rumbles a warning when they get close to Namjoon but settle back down into a soft hum. The shop is a mess, storms aren't meant to be contained in buildings after all, but that's not the pressing issue at hand.

Namjoon sits on floor, shaking and frantic as he stays hunched protectively over Jungkook. Big hands quivering but so careful as he brushes at the small beads of blood and carefully helps the familiar draw his wing back into its tucked position. He pulls Jungkook into his chest and curls up around him, breathing harshly and blinking back tears.

The next day someone else greets them at the store. He's incredibly pretty and quiet as he nervously tugs his oversized sweater over his hands. It takes them longer than they want to admit to realize who he is. And what a great example of magic at work because Jungkook is almost the exact opposite of his animal form.

They're smitten, especially after they get him to smile at them. Namjoon watches them like a hawk as they talk to him, more than ready to jump in and intervene if needed. Jungkook makes a small noise at him and noses at his neck briefly to get him to relax, Namjoon sinking into it and finally relaxing enough to enjoy all his favorite people together.

Happy ot7 ending of course.
