This is sh*t and I hate it
Jin's enlistment has happened whilst I have been blissful in the land of dreams, I knew it was happening today but I thought I would be okay. I'm not! Seeing it has made me feel a real mixture of emotions.
I saw this before I went to sleep
Tumblr media Tumblr media
His goodbye is in true Jin style and I smiled to myself but with a heavy heart.
Then I woke up to this
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And my heart sank. This man raised these guys and they love him beyond words and now they are being separated. I truly hope the future enlistments happen in pairs or groups so we can get this sh*t show done and over with.
He is highly likely going to be the only member to be seen off by all his band mates.
I can't help thinking we got a tearful JK with his face completely obscured like it is.
And Jimin looks to be on his way to blonde hair but that's for another day. Today is about Jin.
Hobi and Tae have posted on Instagram
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And Kim Sunghyun ( BTS visual director) posted a short clip of Jin getting his hair cut
Tumblr media
This hits a bit differently now doesn't it? 😭

Jin, stay safe, stay healthy and we will be waiting for your return.

I saw Army getting upset yesterday about the article mentioning details on Jin's enlistment and how it was then translated. Not only that, their feelings were very much influenced by Jin's weverse post as well.
The argument that this was invasion of privacy and how they don't care about Jin's feelings, is a null one. If a journalist gets a scoop, they will write that newspiece, regardless if the subject of that piece wants the article to come out or not. That is their job and in no way they need to wait to see if they get outside approval. For what I know, Hybe was asked for a statement and decided to give a vague one, which they usually do.
A news piece is not written only based on a press release that a company sends. That's something that does happen, but I can tell you, it's a beginner's job or at worst, lazy writing, as it only needs a rewrite of that release. If information comes out sooner, that ends up in the press. Feelings have nothing to do with this. Jin can be upset or happy about what is written about him, but he should have no say in this. It's called freedom of the press and as much as fans would like to control that, they can't and they shouldn't be validated that they should and how this is a normal reaction.
And one last thing, the fandom shouldn't shoot the messenger. In this case, as much as problematic that big army account is, for the simple action of translating an article already published, they can't be cancelled or admonished. I'm simply talking about translation here. Also, in the entertainment sector, such information is newsworthy, so of course the writer who did the article would get this published. It would be idiotic from a journalist point of view to ignore it. But as I said, it's part of the job. That army can't help themselves flocking there on that day, that's again to be expected (which would happen, regardless of an article or not). This is the price of fame and as much as I would understand on a personal level how much it would suck for Jin, given that he wants his family and friends there, he is a big public figure.
And on a really last note, the article did not leak the information. That's not how the circuit goes. An information can be leaked by someone who owns that information. Which means that the journalist had an inside source or that source leaked the info to the journalist. And it must be a source with access to this info. I think it's important to make such distinctions.

Oh,,, I wasn’t expecting them to upload Jin going away so soon. Listening to For Youth from now on will have a whole new sentiment on top of how bittersweet? wistful? aching? fond? bts looked while performing this song. May the cold wind be always milder and obstructed for Jin, and may he always have sunny spots to keep warm during winter and shady clouds to keep cool during summer. Hope he can have a peaceful, boring, enjoyable time there.
**
I wish the same for him too, anon. 💜
And for the rest of the guys as they follow him through the same process next year.

Jin.
I feel so guilty about how he delayed his enlistment because the members and HYBE convinced him to wait put it off for ARMY. He hates the cold, and he wanted to enlist in the summer. Instead he’s enlisting now, in the dead of winter, in the coldest possible region of SK.
I’m sure there is more to this calculus than we know, not least of which being corporate pressure and government game-playing. The push for them to become ambassadors for Busan’s Expo drive no doubt played a part in that, too.
Poor Jin, and to a lesser extent the rest of the guys, has been treated like a chew toy over this whole deferment/exemption fiasco. His name has been dragged through the mud, his character and motives have been called into question, and his honor has been undermined.
Rumor has it that he’s going on December 13th. Rumor also holds that he’s already there, which is why he didn’t offer public congratulations/support to JK at the World Cup. Either way, this is timing he didn’t select.
I kind of wish they’d gone right after “Be” when they intended to, but I wonder if they weren’t able to because Covid made it inadvisable to be in close quarters with a bunch of strangers (boot camp and army barracks). They would have missed the success of “Butter,” “Permission to Dance,” “Life Goes On” and “Dynamite.” Is it worth the tradeoff? Is two years of chasing the dragon of American success and enduring yet more hate really worth it? I’m glad they made this decision on their own instead of waiting for the SK government to make a move, and before their government could start using them as dolls and puppets full time.
I wish the Big Three had been brave enough to ask for exemptions without bringing BTS into it, but those cheats and cowards had to make sure that the heat fell on BTS and BigHit/HYBE instead of them and their boys. I wish Jin had been able to go when he was personally intending to do so. I wish there hadn’t been such a bruising public debate when the members were unable to defend themselves, just like they’ve always been unable to defend themselves because of concerns for propriety and professionalism.
I know the guys won’t be the same people when they come back out. Nobody ever is after the military. I hope that the men they become are just as close as they are now, and that they don’t grow apart. I also hope that years of dealing with online bullying has prepared them for the bullying and abuse they’re about to experience in the barracks. I’ve heard so many horrible things about idols’ enlistments. That more than anything has me tied in knots. All I can do is send positive energy into the world and pray that they’ll stay safe and as happy as they can be while they go through this stage of their lives.
I don’t know what I’m saying. I’m just processing a lot of ambivalence and sorrow about the state of things. I knew this was coming, and I know it has to play out, but it’s just so fucking sad.

hi so I just want to put my two cents in the enlistment conversation, because really, it's not the End Of The World. in my country military service was mandatory for men until around 20 years ago, I think, and I don't know how similar it was to military service in korea but from what I've seen it was close enough. when it's just something that is mandatory it kind of becomes like going to school, some people like it and some don't while others are indifferent, some people feel it's their duty and some try to not do it (and only very few end up not doing it). and there is really not that much drama. yeah sure, in my country they ended up making it voluntary, but even today if you ask most people are just some kind of indifferent, because it's not enlistment, it's a training service so the biggest part of the population is not completely clueless and panicking in case of emergency.
so no, jimin using jins photo is not in any way offensive or tone deaf, not when the first thing that they probably did she they saw Jin was tell him that he looked like a boiled egg and smack the back of his head (that is, if Koreans have a sense of humour similar to the people in my country)
yeah, sorry for the rant. im just tired of seeing people acting like he's going to the fields of punishment in the underworld and he's never coming back. I get that this is a change and "missing" him in some way but really, sometimes it's too much.
The school comparison is quite fitting here. Military service was also mandatory in my country as well until a couple a decades ago, so I guess we have the same perspective on this issue. Personally, I am fundamentally against the military as an institution because of the damages it does to men and the values they try to inscribe in them on what it means to be a man and what type of masculinity is acceptable. There has been research done (by men actually) about these effects, in Euro-US spaces, as well in other places, such as SK (which I've read). But on top of a political/ideological position, there is also a personal experience mixed in here. Which is why for some proves to be lucrative period, while for others, it doesn't. I think we need to maintain this balance when we look at a situation like this because over-generalizing in both directions (military bad/military good, it's their duty), can stop us from understanding how complex the issue actually is.
But as to the idea that such a reaction would come from Jimin for something as simple as a haircut (which was nothing but speculation on my part), I think that some people forget how the BTS members joke and make fun of each other. Have we not watched Run?
