You know, I’m not at all trying to bring down Carlos, Lewis or Yuki when I say this: but it’s very interesting to me that they’ve all somewhat struggled to adapt to their new team…and instead of being lambasted for it, the prevailing narrative from f1 fandom and the media at large is “let’s just give them time ☺️”
Yet when it was Daniel, fresh into VCARB and driving the first few races of the season with a damaged chassis, every bad result was held against him and people were calling for him to lose his seat three races into the season??
When he was in a LITERAL tractor (as in P10 in the WCC in 2023!), it was held against him. When he broke his hand trying to avoid hitting another driver, it was held against him. When he routinely had to drive around failed upgrades and piss-poor strategy, it was held against him.
I feel like I’m living in the Twilight Zone, where everyone knows what happened last year was fucked up, but no one actually wants to admit fault. Instead, they’ll talk around it and bring up how Daniel was Max’s last competitive teammate, how every ballsy overtake on the field is ‘classic Ricciardo’, Mekkies will credit him for his technical contribution’s to VCARB and how it’s given them the huge leap forward we’re seeing now.
As someone who watched everything unfold last year, I can’t help but be so angry at the sudden switch up - from both fans and pundits alike. Daniel deserved much more kindness from this sport than what he got, and everyone telling his fans to ‘just get over it’, I hope your own driver never has to face what Daniel faced last year.

you go about having fun little fantasies about Daniel returning to racing and you see 2 seconds videos of him laughing with his friends and you think, maybe he’s ok now. you have accredited journalists quoting videos of him insisting he is fine, the happiest he’s been and you think, maybe he really is ok. and then you get hit in the face by a throwaway comment, to people he isn’t even that close to and you’re left feeling like you’ve been hit by asteroid. see you in the next life. haha, so funny, so Daniel in a way. and yet, fucking hell. what a slap to the face. it’s been months of everybody having something to say about Daniel while he’s been silent, because fucking hell, that was a very real thing that happened to him. he was publicly eviscerated and thrown out of the sport he gave his whole life to. how do you ever get over that? you never do. you never do, so you run away from the one thing you ever loved the most

They restricted Liam's social media and were concerned for his mental health yet they had no problem watching Daniel have a mental breakdown on television, TRASHHHH
FULLY fully agree with you on the double standard garbage from Red Bull, particularly when so much of the hurt Daniel was put through last season was literally directly from Red Bull or as a direct result of Horner/Marko/Red Bull's statements, decisions and behaviour. And I haven't been shy of voicing my opinion on Lawson, particularly his own comments and attitude (and his management's shady af tactics last season).
Buuuuut have to say if those comments from Maher are true about how this has all affected him then I do feel sorry for him on a human level. I think he could probably do with some humbling - like I do genuinely think that if this results in a change of attitude and some more maturing, then that could very much help him going forward. But at the same time he didn't need to be torn to shreds. And if he never manages to recover from this then a lot of it will be down to Red Bull and his management.
#the more i read about all this the more sure I am that they were punishing Daniel for something#maybe he didnt want to buy the seat#maybe he didn't want to sit in the sidelines as a safety net for them#maybe they were still angry he left#maybe they didnt like that his confidence came back#yes Liam deserved more than 2 races since they put him there#knowing he was royally inexperienced#but Daniel didnt deserve any of the shit they put him through last year

Unfortunately the worst person you know (JV) makes a good point, because Red Bull's decision to bin off Daniel last season and their seeming unwillingness to promote Yuki Tsunoda have left them with very little wiggle room with how to proceed should Lawson's performance continue to spiral. If only Red Bull had a proven race-winner, who likes a similar style of car and setup to Max in their driver stable huh...... 🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️
#doing that to Daniel will forever bite them in their asses because he would have been able to drive that car#maybe not like when he was in his prime but definitely better than whatever they' currently got going on#the issue here is unless they STOP building a car around Max#the only person who will survive is Daniel#but aside from them he would have done wonders for the young drivers program#he would have been a terrific mentor#they have a problem and unfortunately for them they let go of the solution

The commentary pisses me off because Daniel never got this level of grace from any of them, not when he joined a new team and NOT when he came back from a whole surgery because he had broken bones.
He was expected to just succeed, to just get in and be better than his team mate no matter what the circumstances were and if he wasn't, they'd spend the next ten minutes repeating the same nonsense and the camera moves to that man in the garage.
And mind you, media and commentary were the place 90% of people formed their opionions from because nobody bothered actually checking the data for the truth.
They genuinely all just bullied him, and for what???
#daniel ricciardo#kinda over him not getting the seat because he would have definitely been the scapegoat#but its just so unfair#the way everyone treated him will always confuse me#because WHY???#and now theyre name dropping him#suddenly missing him#they never deserved him#and this goes beyond just not liking a driver#we all have drivers we dont like
