Led Zeppelin - Whole Lotta Love - Earl's Court 05-24-1975 Part 17

Okay, listen up people, Zep-heads, Jimbert shippers especially, because this video is un-fucking-believable in so many ways, and all of them good ways and I have a lot to say about it, mmkay? To start out, we have the boys coming out to do an encore, and Robert just...reclines on the platform thingy like the decadent demigod he is and eats whatever he's eating while Bonzo, the most laddish member of the group, in a fluffy robe, no less, declares that he finds football to be "a load of bollocks". Robert, almost certainly the most effeminate member of the group (I guess one might be able to argue that Jimmy - with his delicate features and willowy physique and soft speaking voice - might be a little more effeminate, but that's neither here nor there, the point still stands, and that point is that Robert is a pretty pretty princess), stands right up to defend the sport that he's so passionate about (side note: anyone know why he says "soccer" and not "football"? Because I can't think of another British person who calls it that. The first few times I heard him use it, it was during interviews with American interviewers and/or for American TV shows or publications, so I thought it was just for clarity so they know he's not talking about American football, but this is a concert in Britain with, I'm assuming, a mostly British audience. Anyone know why he calls it that?).

The song kicks off with Robert and Jimmy doing, as I referred to a few days ago on a post featuring a gif from this performance, "backwards humping", or, "the bisexual secret handshake". They are so shameless in their weird ass public courtship display that you might just miss seeing Jonesy's beautiful smile in the background (and if you do, take that video back a few seconds and freaking look at that gorgeous smile. You'll thank me later).

When we get to the first chorus, Robert freaking throws one arm around Jimmy's shoulder, pulling him close to share the microphone, and I shit you not, Jimmy's foot pops. And if that weren't enough, Robert pulls away for a second just to look at Jimmy's face and smile, only to pull him in closer again. Get a room, you dorks. Then when the second chorus comes around, they have the stupidest lovesick smiles on their faces, which are so close together they can probably taste each other's breath. Then Jimmy sort of pushes off with this shoulder nudge and one of them (Jimmy, I think? I sounds like Robert, but Robert's already in the middle of a drawn out vocal, so I think it's Jimmy) gives this soft little grunt/sigh/suspiciously sexual sounding noise. They spend a moment doing a short rendition of (I think?) James Brown's "sex machine" (worth noting/remembering here that Led Zeppelin have their own tribute to James Brown in "The Crunge", a song that gives off all the bisexual energy that's considered safe for human consumption), and then...then...

...we get to the theremin segment. The motherfucking theremin segment. The climax, if you will, of this entire performance. The part where Jimmy and Robert have hardcore sex right there on stage, right there in front of their audience, at least half of whom is probably male, and the vast majority of whom at least claim to be heterosexual, since this is the 1970s and there's very real consequences in store if you're a dude who goes around telling people out loud that one of the main reasons you go to Led Zeppelin concerts is to see and hear obscenely beautiful men fuck each other's brains out. Or even admit that you're aware that's just what's going on on that stage. Yes, this is the part where Jimmy does incredible things with his hands and long slender little fingers that make Robert moan and scream like a particularly horny banshee. Look, there's no getting around it. Even before I shipped it, I had to acknowledge (if in kind of a jokey-jokey way) that, wow, Jimmy is really dedicated to seeing how much and how hard he can make Robert cum. And Robert, in turn, is doing everything he can to let Jimmy know just how much and how hard he's cumming. Which is very much, and very hard. Some things to note are the way Robert not only mimics the sounds that the theremin is making, but also some of Jimmy's gestures, like when Jimmy puts both hands up in the air and then we see Robert doing the same. Meanwhile, the rhythm section are doing their thing, John Paul Jones' bassline providing the sort of bow-chicka-wow-wow type soundtrack to this auditory gay porn. Also, around 5:45, you can hear the bass do something that sounds an awful lot like "Achilles' Last Stand", which at this point hasn't been written yet, but that particular riff has been and will be used in concerts for quite a while before ending up in said homoerotic epic.

What really, really gets me about this performance, though, is what happens at around the six minute point, when Jimmy goes to grab his guitar back from offstage and Robert just has this look on his face. He's saying "ooh, ooh," slowly sauntering in Jimmy's direction, looking straight at him, his eyes filled with what can only be described as pure lust. This part isn't for the audience. Most of the audience can't see Robert's face with the direction he's facing, and those that can are too far away to be able to see it. He's not faking this. He's not pretending to be horny or desperate to be provocative, not in the look he's giving Jimmy, anyway. I'm not sure if the look in his eyes here is one that can be faked. Oh no. He feels it.

And then Robert gets back to singing, "Feel a little lonely, in the middle of the night. I need you darlin', to make things alright." And who is he looking directly at as he sings this? Just take a wild guess.

tl;dr: Robert and Jimmy are about as subtle as a rainbow fireworks display spelling out "WE'RE BISEXUAL DISASTERS IN LOVE"

JIMMY - I found most of their last names in the mouthwashing reddit and as I searched up the surname Zare, it seemed to be of Iranian origin, hence why he's Iranian American to me. what is mouthwashing (the game), I know I could look it up but I’m not confident in the results being moreso about the game than the dental care and I feel like asking someone who wants to talk about it would be a good place to start (please I keep seeing art of this game I’m confused what’s happening)

It's a psychological horror game set on board of a crashed freighter space ship. On board, the five crew members are faced with dwindling food supplies as they fend off the slow descent into madness. With the captain unresponsive after the crash, you play as co-pilot Jimmy who has to take over responsibility for the crew's well being.

okay, so- i drew these lot before playing the actual game (maybe spoilers? went off the steam page photos/videos for references.) anyways here' my artistic breakdown in order of who got drawn first.

Jimmy - I knew he was the protagonist, went OKAY SO HE'S TRIPPING BALLS based on the trippy horse/pony and eye imagery in the trailers. Each eye for a different crewmember. Obligatory 'main character? of course, draw him first that's the privilege.' HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH-

Anya - She's really really pretty- um- I based her off this one scene from 'Pearl' because there were axe references made. Decided that she deserved a kick ass axe. Also the only character I had somewhat spoilers for since I watched an animatic on the 'dead pixel' scene a week before I got into this. Also, as the tired looking nurse, I would buy her crocs or something. Genuinely need to draw her again and properly.

Daisuke - Thought his shìrt was nice, did a little MIKU MIKU BEAM for him to show off his rings. Honestly didn't have much of him to go off but he reminds me of someone I know irl. He like me fr fr I love his design so much I need to figure out his shirt pattern.

Swansea - TBH IM NOT HAPPY WITH THIS DOODLE BECAUSE AFTER PLAYING THAT DOES NOT LOOK LIKE HIM. Based him off that one jester painting because he had disappointed dad feeling the end-times are coming after the match vibes. Met this guy before in a Tesco I sWEAR- I feel like he knows he's too old for this mouthwash bullshit. Spacing out all 'what the actual fuck'.

Curly - I... struggled so bad. With the bandages. Put him off until last. Harvey Dent has prepared me to draw eyes on the other side of the face like that. Want to do this man justice visually honest to God. Even if I genuinely believed he crashed the ship at the time because of the steam page. I played both 'How Fish Is Made' and 'The Last One And Then Another' before drawing these, and I loved meeting him as a little fish ball thing. Gave him the cake, too, since I assumed it would be his birthday at some point?

 If the battlefield had a theme song, it would be Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song.” From the band’s 1970 album, Led Zeppelin III, the track has transcended the band and stands on its own as the howling, brooding, repetitious representation of mythical conflict.Appearing in movies like School of Rock and, of course, in the trailer for the 2017 superhero film, Thor: Ragnarok, the song is simply a part of pop culture.But where did it come from, exactly, what’s the meaning and what is Robert Plant singing about? Let’s dive in.

What is Norse Mythology?

It is a way of understanding the world through stories of gods. In Norse mythology, which Plant references in “Immigrant Song,” there is the thunder-god Thor and other beings you’ve likely vaguely heard of. There is also the concept of Valhalla, where the god Odin rules. Half of those who die in battle go to Valhalla. Of course, the belief system is much more complicated, but that’s the source text from which Plant gets his concepts for this 1970 hit.

When Did the Band Write the Song?

In the summer of 1970, the band wrote the song while touring Iceland, Bath (England), and Germany.

The group’s string of shows began in Reykjavik, Iceland, of which Plant said in the 1994 book, Led Zeppelin, “We weren’t being pompous … We did come from the land of the ice and snow. We were guests of the Icelandic Government on a cultural mission. We were invited to play a concert in Reykjavik and the day before we arrived all the civil servants went on strike and the gig was going to be cancelled. The university prepared a concert hall for us and it was phenomenal. The response from the kids was remarkable and we had a great time. ‘Immigrant Song’ was about that trip and it was the opening track on the album that was intended to be incredibly different.”

In a way, of course, a rock band is at war, too. With their own inner fears, with the possibility the audience may boo. It’s metaphorical and artistic, but true.The band pl #ayed the song live for the first time during a show at the Bath Festival.

The Song, Itself

With bashing percussion, the song hinges on the repetitive guitar riff for Jimmy Page. It’s a heartbeat, a collective one. It belongs to the soldiers. It’s also their feet running over land, axes above their hands. Then Plant’s voice comes in like a war cry, a battalion of banshees.

Led Zeppelin all of a sudden becomes an army of Vikings. And we join them.

I’m bored, and for the life of me don’t wanna write for the like..15 other full length wips, I present you what I would think that the pony express crew would bring on the tulpar alongside their clothes & hygiene!

Daisuke:

Along with him canonically carrying a gameboy on ship with him, I feel he’d probably bring those game boy stereo headphones so he can play at night.

With swanseas voice line about Daisuke only thinking with his ‘downstairs long nose’, I headcanon that Daisuke would have a higher libido (sex drive), so he’d probably pack some type of porn magazine.

Would probably bring like six different games for the gameboy. (Most likely Pokémon games.)

Curly:

Probably wouldn’t take much on board, maybe a card game to play with jimmy whenever duty is slow.

Also brought a history book onboard. Probably ww2 or ww1. I see him as a huge history nerd, just look at him and say he isn’t. I dare you.

I see him as a guy to chew tobacco so he’d probably sneak in chewing tobacco in his boxers. Helps him focus when it’s late.

Swansea:

Pictures of his kids and wife, and a switchblade? I see him as a guy to pack anything he might need so for some reason I think he’d pack a switchblade to make repairs easier

..he’d also bring batteries. You don’t know how much you need batteries until you don’t have them.

Probably somehow snuck on his kids drawings. He didn’t pack them. Neither did he pack the stuffed bunny he knew belonged to his son. Wonder how those got there..

Jimmy:

Chewing tobacco, probably the one to get curly into chewing tobacco, also turns into his dealer and upsells him but shh…

Pocketknife/butterfly knife. Does tricks with it absentmindedly on the ship, scares the ever living shit out of Anya when she enters the lounge late at night and is met with a deadpanned jimmy twirling around an open blade. Almost fainted the first time.

Probably alcohol too. He seems like a corona or bud light guy. Brings a 12 case. Low tolerance too so it’s one and done sadly for him. Snuck it in under his white long sleeves.

Anya:

Either a Walkman or a cd player with those orange cushiony headphones. Music helps her calm, and it helps her sleep. Freaks out if it isn’t with her, was totally a gift from her mom.

Coloring books or sketch pad too. I head-canon her to be a big sketcher or painter, just can’t paint on the freighter. She likes to make big doodle pages with different sketches or sketches of things around her.

Stuffed animal, probably a blue bunny or a white lamb. No I won’t explain. She seems like a stuffed animal person, totally sees them as little people and turns them around before changing.

Heating pad too. She looks like she had horrible back pain so to fix that…heating pad. Also helps her with cramps. It sits on her desk in the medical room.
