f*ck Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar, they have so much to answer for
imagine treating your daughter, who was a victim of your disgusting abuser son, worse than said disgusting abuser son, just because she dares to call you out and has a nose ring

I just wish that people realize that none of the Duggar kids are our friends. While they do deserve our compassion for the abuse they've been through (esp the daughters), and to be able to unlearn all that harmful Fundie Christian rhetoric that they have internalized in private, they are still bigots and absolutely do not deserve public platforms and continued speaking opportunities. For example, Jill and her husband Derrick have yet to address or apologise for his transphobic and homophobic tweets aimed towards trans public figure Jazz Jennings and gay couple Nate Berkus and Jeremiah Brent, and in her latest book Counting the Cost, Jill dismissed the controversies as her husband simply "speaking his mind on various and making a few enemies".

Jill crying and pointing to derick then he speaks is so sweet
He's still transphobic so I still don't like him but it's sweet how he followed her lead

As details of the family and their scandals unfold, we realize they're part of an insidious, much larger threat already in motion. Part One recaps Episode 1: Meet the Duggars and Episode 2: Growing Up Gothard.

“It turns out that living with fearful thoughts is a lot like living with hornets and garter snakes. Once they find a way in, you can block as many holes as you like, but the struggle to keep them out will require constant vigilance. And when they do get in—which they will—the memory of all those previous attacks will make whatever you’re facing so much worse.”

fundie facebook is real weird
one post, talking about the documentary (!!!) has loads of comments talking about how they hate that the Dillards are taking part
people saying "I'm not gonna watch it" because they're involved
And I don't get it?
a) its not explicitly about the duggars, but about iblp - and you know who tends to have the best insight into a cult? the former members of that cult
b) there's other former members of iblp talking as well, so if the Dillards view doesn't match up with them, then it'll be quite clear
c) you do get that any journalist worth their salt is gonna cast as wide a net as possible? Of course, they would want to speak to one of the duggars
d) THE GROWTH. jill has shown an exceptional amount of growth over the past ten years.
This is jill around 10 years ago (2014)

Gearing up to release a Gothard-approved book, alongside her sisters, all about the IBLP way to live your life
For her to change so much that she's now actively speaking out against both IBLP and her family's involvement in it, why the hell would you not be interested in what she has to say?

Counting the Cost by Jill Duggar: B Reviews Books
Tumblr media
Jill Duggar Dillard's debut memoir did not disappoint. In fact, it was much more gut wrenching, eye opening and well-done than I would have imagined.
For those who are unaware, Jill Duggar Dillard is the fourth of the 19 children of Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar, the stars of 19 Kids & Counting and a variety of other TV specials. The family follows Bill Gothard's rendition of radical and conservative Christianity, known as the IBLP (Institute of Basic Life Principles). Some basic rules include:
no hugging before marriage (or anything else for that matter)
mum and dad have their noses in your business at all times
no formal education
no dancing (??)
extremely modest clothing (we're talking Amish-style here)
& one million more little rules that do not make sense to me as an agnostic/atheist
Jill's memoir details her life from the very beginning as Sweet Jilly Muffin, the obedient and "perfect" daughter who did whatever her father and the IBLP required of her, through being parentified as a "buddy" for her younger siblings as a young teen, to becoming an unpaid reality TV star who did it all for the sake of "ministry" and finally, meeting her now-husband Derick under the watchful eye of her father, Jim Bob, who she refers to as Pops throughout the book.
Mild spoilers here, but in Jill's memoir, you will hear about all of the horrors of her young life, ranging from relatively mild and sad (eating beans for dinner because her parents did not have enough money and too many mouthes to feed) to absolutely heart wrenching (being molested by her older brother, who she then had to go onto national television to defend his "honour"), and a thousand more things in between.
Now confession time: I used to religiously watch 19 Kids & Counting and Counting On until I was in my mid-twenties. Jill and I are born a few months apart, so I always connected with her. Reading this book felt like reading the diary of a friend, and it was just as disturbing as you can imagine.
A big surprise for me in this book was how much I ended up liking Derick. On the show, he seemed to be a bit of a goof, and he posted some pretty nasty things on Twitter many moons ago, which he now seems to have redacted or changed his mind about. But reading through this... It seems like he is one of the most level-headed people involved in this sad wreck of a familial situation. And he had the guts to stand up to Jim Bob. A win in my opinion.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book. If any of the other siblings were to put out a similar tell all (Jinger's I won't read because she talks no shit about her father, who I believe is at least somewhat evil based on Jill's writing, which may or not be a fair assessment), I would not hesitate to buy it and read.
Sending Jill and her family so much love, and I hope they can continue to rebuild.

Jill Duggar Dillard and her Spouse Derick Dillard have finally written their Memoir “Counting the Cost” which will give fans new insight into her Growing up in the public eye for the 7 1/2 years that she was filming her courtship, engagement, marriage, birth of her first baby , to traveling to Central America for doing missionary work.
It’ll go into detail about the police report of her older brother Josh Duggar being released and how she tried to salvage what was left of the family’s brand back in June 3 , 2015 and how he tried to intimidate her and her Sister Jessa were doing the Megyn Kelly interview and how he watched them both with a hawks eye so that they say anything bad about him and it sounds like an intimidation tactic of his to silence his victims.
She also reveals her feelings about the IBLP and why she thinks it’s a cult.
From feeling the need to please everybody and obedient, to her coming out of the side of her painful past and letting her children go to public school and she’s embracing new changes for her family for a healthier future and family dynamic.
The book was released yesterday.
To make matters worse, Jessa announced her 5th pregnancy on the day when an excerpt of the memoir was released.
It Sounds like an attempt from Jessa Seewald to steal the spotlight from Jill and deflect from rifts within the family.
