It's so weird to me when people are like 'but that will cost the government money!' So what? They're the government, they're supposed to be spending money. What, you want them to take your tax dollars and then do nothing with it? Lock it all up in a big government vault and just look at it? Why are you so scared of giving a third grader lunch or a homeless person a house.

On 12 March 1990, dozens of disabled people descended on the US Capitol and carried out a protest which became known as the Capitol Crawl. Participants were protesting against the stalling of a proposed law, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which would prohibit discrimination against disabled people. Around 1000 other protesters watched and cheered while dozens of members of ADAPT, a group campaigning for public transit access for disabled people, abandoned their wheelchairs and mobility aids and began crawling up the steps of the building housing Congress. It was a powerful illustration of the difficulties faced by many disabled people faced with a hostile environment which had been constructed without their needs in mind. Michael Winter, one of the participants later reflected: “Some people may have thought it was undignified for people in wheelchairs to crawl in that manner, but I felt that it was necessary to show the country what kinds of things people with disabilities have to face on a day-to-day basis. We had to be willing to fight for what we believed in.” In the wake of the protest, Congress passed the bill and it was signed into law in July 1990. https://www.facebook.com/workingclasshistory/photos/a.1819457841572691/2229212140597257/?type=3

I swear fundie reddit is getting so weird about "modesty" recently
What with all the comments about carlins pregnancy announcement outfit and I've just seen this posted about Morgan Olliges too

Like, this isn't snark. You're not making a point. You're just criticising a woman for wearing a completely normal outfit. (Even if it wasn't a completely normal outfit, who cares!?!?!!!!)
What the hell is the point of the comments. It's not some kind of clever commentary, it's literally just barely disguised misogyny (cause they think they're doing it ~sarcastically~ so its okay)
There are some very real conversations to be had around purity culture and bullshit modesty standards - which disproportionately affect women in these communities, might I add.
This is just some random snarker taking shots at Morgan because they don't like her and so that makes it okay to call her out for her "impurity" (showing her shoulders, belly and cleavage - oh my!)
This is not it.
Like, what's the point of these kinds of posts???? Women in these fundie cultures get criticised for dressing modestly by snarkers, then they dress more in keeping with what most people around them are wearing, and they get criticised for that too???? What's the goal here? Who does this serve?

how dare a woman have a body and wear clothes
such attention seeking behaviour
ok I know I made fun of Carlin and Evan for looking like a JCPenney ad but reddit is calling her a slut for wearing a body suit 🥴?? so now I'm mad on their behalf

This is what I mean when I say I think so many people "snark" as a way to project their own insecurities onto fundie women. Because how the fuck are y'all going to cheer for them to get out of the cult on one day, and call them sluts who are desperate for attention the next over a LONG SLEEVE BODY SUIT AND JEANS?
I do not fuck with these kind of people. You look sad and bitter, this clothing isn't snark worthy get a fuckin grip.

Ok at this point I'm starting to wonder if they're splashing vodka in this grape juice because why in the hell do they need to point that out so many times? Is it an inside joke???
Maybe the people who think Jill looks drunk a lot are onto something lol, the lady truly doth protest too much.

Does she know that this meal looks kinda bizarre or is she genuinely not aware and thinks it looks tasty?
ok we're going to play a game: guess what the hell Jill Rodrigues is making for dinner based only off the ingredients she shows on her IG story:

ok it looks like we have:
1. Some kind of pasta salad with potato chunks?? and possibly turkey or chicken?
2. Red onion
3. Chopped up lunch meat, looks like maybe chicken and ham?
4. Italian sausage
5. Tomato
6. Shredded mozzarella, eggs, and milk, which are mixed with the chopped tomato and poured over the other stuff
7. Cheddar cheese slices
Honestly the pasta mixture is what really threw me off, wtf is that??? Otherwise it'd be a pretty standard breakfast casserole (maybe)
#i get thay food can look grim and actually be delicious#idek what this is#but im only posting ny food if it actually looks good#idk if my brain thinks this looks grosser than it actually is cause i dont eat meat and it always looks really unappetising to me

Okay this is real specific and nobody else may get it but that's fine
The vibes music video remind me of a prank my husband and his coworkers would play in each other
He worked at a 1920s music venue, as a techie doing various backstage tasks, and he and his colleagues would often find themselves in the odd, tucked away bits of the venue that not many people would ever be in (e.g. under the stage, up in the roof, in the old projection room)
And at some point, one of them had made a loop of Bing Crosby singing "You better watch out" from Santa Claus is Coming to Town, over and over, but increasing in speed/volume and gradually getting lower and lower in pitch i.e. getting more and more unsettling
They used to love playing that for each other, especially when somebody was in a particularly creepy/cold/small space
Anyway, having seen the old projector room and having heard the loop track, it's the exact same kind of energy as this music video gives off
The Rodrigues Ladies just dropped their first single and music video and I’m not brave enough to watch it with the volume on
I forgot all about that lmao. I just watched like 30 seconds and I think that's all I can do at a time without secondhand embarrassment breaks. The filters, the poses, the lip synching, the prominence of Jill's' voice over the others.......it's s just as bad as you'd assume it is. It looks like something they show in a documentary about cult survivors to show how crazy and brainwashed that used to be.
Here's the video for anyone else who wants to be Blessed by the Rodrigues girls in their matching temu outfits:

FLDS asks always send me back down the rabbit-hole a bit, and this time around I found these pictures from a 2016 Rolling Stone piece on the FLDS of Hildale, UT.
