Dimension Λ-16 — Rick and Morty Fantasy & Magic AU

Far outside the Central Finite Curve exists a dimension where instead of science, there is magic.

Dimension Λ-16 is driven by magic as an innate power inside all living individuals. A person’s life force is tied very closely with their magical essence, and is strongly influenced by emotion and strength. Those who devote their lives to training this ability can harness immense amounts of energy, shaking the Earth with their powerful magic.  

While most use their magic for just the necessities and aren’t concerned with gaining power, Morty is not one of them. All his life he struggled to control and strengthen his magical abilities, despite his best efforts. Growing tired of constantly being reminded of his weakness and told he would never learn, he decides to set out in search of his mysterious grandfather, Rick Sanchez. Morty has heard whispered rumors of this cryptic figure — a man said to be the most powerful in all the land, practically a god. One who has left a trail of destruction and death in his wake. 

But Morty quickly realizes how difficult it will be to find him. The man is incredibly elusive, having not been seen in public for countless years. Traveling far across the country, Morty runs into lots of trouble and many false leads. But when he is finally able to track the man down, he is nothing like expected. A washed-up alcoholic, Rick has no interest in training Morty. Determined to prove himself worthy of apprenticeship, Morty follows Rick closely despite the grumpy older man's protests. But finally, when Rick has been convinced to take Morty under his wing, he does not go easy on him. He is a strict, unforgiving teacher, but Morty learns quickly under his training, finally showing his true potential. 

As they traverse the land together, more is uncovered of Rick’s past. What, or who, has Rick been searching for all these years, leaving his footsteps soaked with blood as he goes? And what will Morty do when he learns of Rick’s true motivation?

I am currently outlining the storyline for a fic; it will consist of four parts, each multi-chapter. I may also write additional oneshots in the future that can be read separately and fit into the general timeline, but aren’t part of the main plot. Everything will be contained in a series on AO3, which I will link here once I begin to write. As of posting this, I'm currently in the very beginning stages of planning and am not anywhere close to beginning a first draft, but I will continue posting about it and drawing characters/scenes! I plan to write the first part fully before beginning to upload chapters, then continue with weekly updates -- but this may change in the future.

This dimension is self-contained, meaning it will not interact with other dimensions. Due to the nature of the universe and the fact that it is outside of the Central Finite Curve, there is a very slim possibility it would be known to any other dimensions, and much less traveled to.

Feel free to ask questions about this AU or chat with me about it! I would be thrilled to talk about it, but obviously I cant reveal too much-- I don't want to spoil everything!
