Possible delulu time here, but I can't get over how GCF Tokyo keeps coming up in the promotion for Are You Sure?! Once in an article and now in this video... out of the boys mouths themselves... while clips are being shown! GCF has probably gone under the radar for a lot of people, so bringing it up now and tying it to the travel show is.... interesting.

Someone on Tumblr posted a fantastic breakdown of the BTS content levels and how the majority of people are not familiar with or consuming some of the less mainstream content. (I am bummed I couldn't find it, but if you know what I am talking about, share the link!) I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that I think there are a lot of BTS fans out there that haven't explored enough content to see the GCF videos. There are a lot of people oblivious to the special bond Jikook share with each other. That's why I think it's so interesting to bring up GCF Tokyo.

It's an obvious consequence that referencing GCF Tokyo will cause new people to watch it, people interested in the travel show. I was shocked the first time I watched GCF Tokyo and I am sure others will be too. You can read my post about that experience here. Even people that don't know BTS think that video is about a romantic couple. Now there will be new people watching GCF Tokyo looking at Are You Sure?! through that lens. (or maybe viewers won't even need that lens to make Jikook look like a couple... we shall see)

I just can't help it... bringing up GCF Tokyo feels very loud to me. There is ZERO way they don't know how some people interpret GCF Tokyo. The only reason to bring that up is if they intentionally want to shine a light on that video AND link it to this new travel show. It feels to me that they are continuing navigate having plausible deniability to protect them from the hate while also wanting to been seen by the people willing to see and support their connection.

Ah, I suddenly wanted to write this, although I’ve always been thinking about writing about GCF in Tokyo. What better occasion than its anniversary? Let's go...

I take immense pride in being a JiKooker. They warm my heart, soothe my soul, and somehow restore my faith in love.

This ain't your Jimin, this ain't my Jimin—this is Jungkook's Jimin. "GCF in Tokyo" is everything you'd ever want to understand about how Jungkook sees or feels about Jimin. It's one of the most authentic versions of Jimin I've ever seen: goofy, beautiful, adorable, with a smile that could light up galaxies far away. But who was that smile for? Me? You? No—it was for Jungkook, and only Jungkook. The love they have for each other feels like it could spill out of the screen. It makes my heart feel so soft.

In previous radio interviews, you'll often hear Jimin mentioning how he wants to go on trips with Jungkook. Jungkook would stay quiet in those moments, just smiling, only to plan such a beautiful trip for Jimin in the following years. That baby was always listening to what Jimin wanted, and boy, did he surpass all expectations. He did it with utmost charm.

There's something so classy and attractive about Jungkook—he doesn't care about being judged by random strangers. Don't you think he knew how love and hate would come hand in hand if he made something like a confession in this video? He knew it, but he just doesn't care, and that makes him so magnetic and irresistible. I could gush about Jungkook all day, about GCF in Tokyo, and about Jimin too.

JiKook and Japan goes way back. its something which belongs to 2 of them.

You can see Jimin shrugging at the camera because he didn’t realize why JK was making a video. And that’s why it makes me feel so much in my heart—it shows that Jimin wasn’t aware of the GCF in Tokyo video, and that just adds to the sweetness of it all.

Anyways, it’s the anniversary of GCF in Tokyo (featuring Jimin 😂). This will never not make me laugh—it's more GCF of Jimin (featuring Tokyo). Where's the Tokyo, JK???"

As I mentioned in my earlier post, I could write and write about JiKook, but I still wouldn’t be able to fully express what they are and how they make me feel. So, I’ll just shut up now.

Jikook Week 47 Complete (29/10-05/11/2024)

Their 47th week in the military is now complete and we celebrate with a look back at this week in 2017.

It was a very special week for Jimin and Jungkook marking their first trip together. They went to Tokyo between 28/10 and 31/10 on a trip that JK organised as a birthday present for Jimin, a trip that they are still talking about seven years later.

"We were walking down an alley, there weren't many cars, there was the light from the street lamps.... It was really beautiful. And then Jimin said that his feet hurt and so we walked slowly. These simple things were so fun" Jungkook, Real Love, Beyond the Story

"We went around wearing masks from the move Scream with black fabric covering our bodies, and black umbrellas. When people came over, we took picture, it was fun. We went around people watching, and when we went to the restaurant, we took off our masks and ate" Jungkook, Real Love, Beyond the Story

They wandered the streets, went shopping, ate good food and visited Disneyland before returning to Korea on the 31/10.

The first Golden Closet Film came out about a week later on 08/11 much to JK's delight as its talented creator and Jimin as its star.

No one before or since has shown Jimin quite like JK does here. He is completely open, relaxed and joyful. He beams at JK behind the lens. This is what it must feel like to be in Jimin's inner circle and have his complete trust. It is a Jimin that we don't really see anymore, although perhaps, in Are You Sure? we caught glimpses of that guy.

On 31/10, Jimin posted this photo of them looking relaxed and happy with an emoji caption. The trip seems to have done them a lot of good and brought them even closer.

The trip took place during a break in the Wings tour between the Taiwan concerts on the 21-22/10 and the Macau concert on 04/11. If you want to know how crazy this time was for them and how hard they were working nothing can demonstrate that more clearly than the Burn the Stage series and in this case Episode 8 which shows the October and November leg of the tour and its final concert in Seoul on 10th December 2017.

It is in this episode that Taehyung asks us to love all seven of the members of BTS which seems worth repeating at this moment.

Watching their 2017 selves talking about what they learnt about each other and about themselves during the Wings Tour made me nostalgic for a time when I wasn't even in the fandom and hopeful for the future that they deserve, pursuing the next steps of their musical journey together as a group. Just over seven months to go before that future can become a reality and all we need to do until then is hold it together, ensure we put out our share of positivity to balance the incessant toxicity of SM and TRUST IN BTS.

If I asked you now, what was the moment that cemented jikook for you? How many of would answer with GCFC Tokyo?

I would.

As a person working in the world of films, movies, and videos, this medium of storytelling holds such a grip on me. Moving images, music, and sound (underestimated storytelling device!) arranged in such a way as to bring one to tears. Moving levers within the viewer through unconcious connotations. Moving someone to tears even on repeat viewings because it touches something inside that person. It speaks to an internal void inside themselves that's been given a voice. Glorious. GCFT does that for me. And sure, Scorsese, it's not CINEMA, but this video Jungkook made is most definitely special. The combination of the song, the editing highlighting the lyrics to hold sway over the images, the colors, the duality of our protagonist through many expressions. He's shown to be a human, goofy, sweet, kind, embarrassed, overjoyed, hungry, and tired.

That's your first clue as to what the director thinks of this boy.

He frames him in such a way as to make us fall in love right along with him. He holds power over us.

Jikook in Japan, back to Tokyo, and traveling on to Saporro, making sure to mention their first trip because it's special to them.

Because it still holds power over them.

The first also means there is a promise of more. It set the tone and became a tradition.

Traditions are special if you put import into such things, and these two really love going back to things that hold meaning and that are rooted in silly little meanings only they know. They love to tease a thing but to have the meaning make sense to no one but them.

Mentioing the first time felt like such a conscious way to adress the importance of this place during this time in their lives. So intentionally clear.

This is our little piece of peace. Our Safe Zone. To be together. To make memories we can cling on to before great unknown swallows us up. A place where we can be free from the many schedules we've overcome in order to journey back to this place where they will always be 'just jimin 💜 and just jungkook'.

this might be my ultimate roman empire. as someone that's lived in tokyo for +1 year and visited disneyland a couple times (+ all the other times i've seen my friends/classmates post ig stories there lol) i feel qualified enough to say just how crazy that part of their 2017 tokyo trip was.

there are two main groups that go to disney tokyo: (big) friend groups and couples. Not saying that two friends can't go to disneyland duh but imo you have to be really close to that person to spend all that time by yourselves and not have the experience be mid.

but in my experience, japanese people tend to go to disney SEA- the park next to the original, with their friends bc it's far more fun. Couples go to the regular disney because it's cute and romantic and more chill. This is just extra irrelevant info, bc I went to regular disney with my foreigner friends the first time and we had fun either way; i was just reprimanded by my japanese friends afterwards for not picking Sea lolol

ANYWAY. couples and disney. yeah. there's also this cute tradition to pick matching hats, wear matching clothes, etc (friends also do this). but i find it so cute that only jimin was wearing that giant mickey hat. i wonder if jk bought it for him? or if he was too shy to wear mickey ears? lol.

either way, i've always gotten the feeling based on how gcft is filmed that jm seemed to be having the time of his life and jk was happy to see him enjoying himself. it takes me back to the purpose of the trip, what they shared on Beyond The Story.

But seriously, I wonder if people know just exactly how couple-y and romantic disney tokyo is. How much it's the go-to couples' anniversary plan. i was genuinely so shocked when i went bc i could only see couples walking by (+ giant friend groups like mine lmao).

i'm not trying to imply much- it's just one of those instances that makes me go ??? about jikook sometimes. whatever it was, whatever they are- it's one of the cutest jkk moments we've gotten <3

you know what gets me about GCF Tokyo? It is the fact that JM was completely comfortable with JK filming him like that. I mean he didnt know JK is going to edit it LIKE that and then make it public for the whole world to see. He was absolutely fine being filmed while shopping, eating, having fun and knowing it was not for BTS content. It should make anyone wonder shouldnt it? It wasnt just a picture that you take of your friend while on holiday, you dont even film your bff like that... its much more intimate and screams of closeness. And to think they were so young back then.

How fucking awesome it must be to find your person so early in life? Not jealous at all 😅

When the book got released, we got to find out that Jimin was going through alot during that time but watching GCFT, one would never guess that he had even a single worry. He looked so happy, so free, so comfortable and so loved. That is one of the happiest I have ever seen Jimin and you could tell that he was with someone he loves and who loved him just by looking at how hard he laughed and how wide he smiled.

It’s also the way he rarely looked at the camera but at Jungkook who was behind the camera. He didn’t know Jungkook intended to post that for the public to see so all those smiles, the happiness, the playfulness and silliness were all for him and Jungkook until Jungkook decided to let us in on a little bit of the fun they had in Tokyo.

People can say whatever they want to say about Jungkook’s GCFs but to me, those were the greatest love confession.

When someone is loved right, they glow from the inside out, and anyone can tell Jimin was loved right just by watching him in Jungkook’s GCF.

JiKook and Japan go way back; it's something special that belongs to just the two of them. As a JiKooker, I sometimes wonder what conversations they must have about Japan, because from the very start, it has defined them in a unique way. It’s pretty clear that Japan holds a special place for the two of them.

But some things are better left unsaid to others. I felt happy and content to be a part of their Sapporo trip. That they decided to share with us. The whole AYS experience was great, but once again, it's JiKook in Japan. So that deserves a special mention. Here are lots of pictures that I saved from wherever I could—my snowy babies.
