Odysseus is still related to Hermes, and that relationship allows some of the side-effects of manufactored immortality to affect her less.

They've never been close in life, but Hermes does deliver messages on behalf of Odysseus.

Hermes is also one of the few Olympians opposed to this method of immortalizing mortals, due to his position as a psychopomp. The others who oppose this are Artemis, Ares, Demeter, and Dionysus.
