i like genuinely think half of the shadowhunter chronicles fandom literally doesn’t know that cassie is jewish and that her experience being jewish has impacted the way she writes. not everyone reading these books is a 15 year old ex christian pls realize that your experience with religion is not universal!!

Okay so I have an idea for a fluffy Poly!Lost Boys x Reader Oneshot where whether or not Religious Objects work against vampires entirely depends on what Faith the vampire followed as a human. And yes I know thats a facet from Cassandra Clares Shadowhunters Universe (and perhaps others) but I would love to see it applied to The Lost Boys.
The basic rundown is as follows;
Y/n is a relatively new addition to the Lost Boys pack, having joined up after wandering into their territory (Which for the oneshot we'll say is the Boardwalk and Hudson's Bluff, as well as everything in between) already a full vampire, (If you want to impliment some kind of Fated Mates thing by all means go for it) which was maybe 6-8 months ago. Since then the boys have gotten to know their new packmate (or mate) by a fair amount, the only subject Y/n refuses to talk about is religion. Dwayne suspects some kind of religious trauma, and he's partially correct, but he's under the incorrect assumption that it hasn't been addressed or even acknowledged by Y/n.
Marko and Paul, on the other hand, decide to get a little sneaky, and David, genuinely curious himself, just lets them. Thus begin the subtle shenanigans.
The Terror Twins begin leaving seemingly random religious symbols around the cave, trying to see which ones would have a negative effect on Y/n, but Y/n either doesn't notice them or Marko (who I headcanon as a Jewish/Italian Immigrant because Alex Winter is Jewish. Also because I can 100% envision Marko PARKOURING over walls n' shit to evade Nazi Footsoldiers during the Holocaust and laughing while doing so simply to taunt them. Footnote; I stan the Italian Stallion. If you recognize that from Tumblr you are now my new best friend. No you don't get a choice, have a snack and take a seat) and Paul (who isn't Jewish and thus handled the Jewish Symbols because Marko cannot touch them or he risks burning/injuring himself) forgot to include objects accosiated with a particular religious faith or multiple thereof. Dwayne is off in the corner with this 'disappointed dad friend' aura about him directed towards Marko and Paul's less-than subtle shenanigans. David is (maybe) lounging in his wheelchair, but is watching Y/n just as closely, but leagues more subtly than Marko and Paul (as David is a smooth SOB and not a mildly unsophisticated chaos gremlin like Marko nor a rambunctious golden retriever like Paul.)
Eventually Y/n gets fed up with coming across random religious symbols and very lpudly asks what the hell is going on. Before showing immense amusement in some way at the response they get and confusing the four boys even further and divulging that they're an athiest.
The boys are all stunned, before realization sets in, that explains why Y/n is so good at ignoring religious symbols and can even set foot on Hallowed Ground. They're basically a "perfect predator". Prayer and Religious symbolism wont deter them in the slightest.
Y/n is visibly tense, waiting for the boys to either shun or belittle them for their lack of faith, and getting a vastly different response.
----end of rundown---
Basically its a Regilious Faith -or lack thereof- acceptance/comfort prompt.
If someone wants to make this into a FULLY FLESHED-OUT oneshot or even make it into a series of oneshots or a full story, by all means go right ahead all I ask is that you PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE tag me in it.
If there are copyright issues preventing this then just ignore this entire prompt I guess.

you made the owie situation so much worse because max 100% would have chosen izzy as his suggenes 😭 i’m reading qoaad right now and i miss sizzy so much. cassie really missed the mark by not having them be more involved in the plot and politics, especially because simon had his whole downworlder and shadowhunter equality advocate arc in tftsa. not that i’m saying they didn’t have any opinions on the cohort, i just wish simon and isabelle had more vocal moments in the book and it’s council meetings, especially considering that simon is jewish!!! and the registery hits very very close to home if you get what i mean. i’m surprise that simon didn’t have a moment during a council meeting or any scene where he mentioned how close the actions the cohort wanted were to nazis. izzy was kinda just a babysitter for most of the times she was mentioned, i miss her badassery BUT i do understand that this book is from emma and the blackthorns’ povs and they’re closer to clace and malec… let’s hope simon works more with the new academy and we see him and izzy be mentors to dru (izzy trainer era would be elite)
okay i'm so glad someone else saw my vision... even if it hurts. i just can't help but imagine that in the universe where max lives, he gets closer to izzy into his teen years. i think izzy would spend more time with him when she's trying not to think about simon, bc both of her other brothers are in happy committed relationships, and then after the events of tfsa, he would get closer with simon through her bc of comics and anime etcetc and that would pull them tighter. plus, izzy isn't protective older brother like alec, and she isn't idolized like jace. she's a lot more .. accessible i guess is what i'm saying. as a sibling. she also ends up having a lot less responsibility than jace and alec, as you said, so it makes sense for him to go to her when he needs someone to talk to, or to her and simon's place when he needs a comfortable place to relax. ... anyway i have a lot more thoughts on this but it is not the point of this ask at all lol
i am also reading qoaad rn!! and i know exactly what you mean. i've thought similarly with simon. like he blazed through the sa in a very political manner, and yet we don't see him speaking up against the wrongs being committed here? and with something of this magnitude, and with his perspective.. there's no way he wouldn't feel a responsibility to speak up, especially now that they're all adult shadowhunters and are able to sit in on those meetings and have the voice they didn't always have access to as teens.
so basically yes i fully agree with everything you said <3 and i also really really really hope for more sizzy involvement in twp. i may have my hopes up too high (i.e. they exist), but just the knowledge that there will be a scene with simon at the pandemonium feels like it could imply a tilt in that direction. and i really think it's only fair o7
plus i mean.. not to go back to the max thing. but IF all of what i said above did happen, there's a world where sizzy would be more familiar with ty and dru bc they bracket max's age and would likely have ended up being friends, just by the nature of how involved clary is with emma, and emma potentially expressing worry about the kids not having friends their age etcetc you see where i'm going. so it just feels.. right. yk?

I gave Sword Catcher 4 stars, but it's a 5 star fantasy novel in spirit.
If I can ignore all of the Shadowhunter tropes that were blatantly recycled in this book then it'd likely be more like 4.5 stars. I have a few criticisms here and there, but the city of Castellane is so richly immersive and cut-throat that I felt like I left the real world and slipped into the pages. That's a massive feat for me. I rarely ever feel this enraptured by high fantasy.
I had an issue or two with the superficial treatment of major elements in the story. I needed more of the city's crime underworld, more from Antonetta's character, more of the toxic friendship between Kel and Conor. I felt like we only scratched the surface of these aspects of the story when they were among the most intriguing. In some ways, this book felt like a prologue – I kept wondering when we were gonna properly get into it in the first half. Nonetheless, those are my only complaints.
I loved everything else.
The aspects of Jewish history and mythology? Perfect. Lin and Conor? Crack cocaine. The Ragpicker King as my new future baby daddy? You know it. The sheer scale of the world and its many diverse nations and cultures? Immaculate. The world was expansive and you can tell Cassie really put thought and energy into it. I can't wait for the sequel and I'm hoping we get at least 3 books in the series and not a mere duology like Cassie originally intended. I adored Sword Catcher and I can overlook the, uh, light borrowing from The Last Hours.
Feel free to send me asks about the book if you wanna discuss!

Ngl I think TWP would be hilarious as simply a social media au—kinda SOBH Style
Somethings it would include:
- Kit tweeting publicly about his angsty feelings for Ty (convinced he’s safe bc Ty would never be on twitter)
- Dru and Kit have a snap streak through which we see snapshots of there povs
- Dru teaches Ty about Tumblr where he has a blog about the cases he’s investigating (he uses fake names—but shadowhunters would never see it so he’s safe) and Ty gets a ton of ppl following his blog for updates
- Dru has an insta where she does outfit of the day and has a run down of the day (but she has a pic from the beginning and end of the day—sometimes it’s the same but sometimes it’s rly messed up from demon fights or messy and people are invested in her stories in the comments)
For ex: Dru somehow has service in faerie; beginning of the day: fishnets and horror t under corderoy overall shorts. End of the Day: a full whimsical faerie dress (today was a long day guys)
The only person Dru follows is Isabelle Lightwood (who she bonds with over fashion and teaches millenial Izzy about insta)
- Blackthorn Family Gc (there’s a lot of convos between Helen+Aline, Dru+Emma, Dru+Tavvy (he has a mini ipad) etc that Julian’s like “does this have to be in the main family gc?!” “YES”)
- Herongraystairs Family Gc (it’s just Jem, Tessa, + Kit—it’s mainly Jessa: hey kit, do you think you’ll be coming home soon, no worries if not, just let us know— then Kit: responds with a vine or meme Tessa: *confused at first till she reads up on them and starts replying in memes*)
- Kit’s youtube channel— Kit interviews “my 150 yr old parents* about historical events they’ve lived through asking the *important questions* ppl just think they’re phd historians with SUPER niche interests
- Thais loves photography and takes cool pictures of a lot of shadowhunter things and nature for her insta and for Dru’s as well ofc
- thais and jaime rivalry on twitter— no matter what the other says they will disagree (kinda jace simon dynamic)
- Ash is a gamer (he’s done all the games in thule lmao) and he does streams—ppl think his commitment to faerie cosplay is cute
- Anush helps Ty with his blog, but he’s also on Snapchat where he has Dru and so we get insight to the scholomance and Ty in the background of a lot or snaps
- sidenote: Izzy is also obsessed with making pinterest boards for her and simons wedding (I like to think that sizzy has a hybrid themed-jewish-shadowhunter wedding bc they can make it however they want)

Stupid mundane traditions
Clary grew up mundane. When christmas comes around, she needs to teach the shadowhunters how to celebrate it, because her mom is dead and she has Luke and Simon (who is jewish but still celebrates with her) but she wants to celebrate with everyone too, even if that means explaining to a grumpy Alec why he and Jace need to go cut down a tree and haul it to the institute.
Alec: "Why are we doing this again?" Jace: "To make Clary happy." Alec: "I'm not sure if I care about Clary's happiness." Jace: "I care about Clary's happiness. Magnus cares about Clary's happiness." Alec: "Magnus isn't making me go out in the cold to cut down a tree though." Jace: "Do I have to recite the parabatai oath?" Alec: "I just don't understand the meaning of this." Jace: "You don't need to. Just help me kill a tree, carry it all the way to the institute, and then decorate its slowly rotting corpse." Alec: "… Mundanes are weird."

I admit I was ignorant on the matter but now that I know more about Israel and its army, I can't help but see the similarities between them and the Shadowhunters/Nephilim. I always wondered how could CC hail a society of child soldiers that forces assimilation or violence on anyone that opposes them as heroes.
And her obsession with European features and how all characters of color are half white and change their last names (super common practice in Israel). They either assimilate to the European/Nephilim culture, or they're demonic beings that want to kill the heroes.
Sarah J Maas too, and her obsessions with imperialism = good! colonization = good!, if I grow bored of ruling I'll go on a colonization spree to bring culture to savage people! (Idk if you've read her books)
I'm jewish but I grew up in a mixed family (of ethnicities and religions) and my jewish mom is an atheist who taught me Zionism is a racist, fascist ideology so I always avoided Israel like the plague. I regret staying ignorant for so long and not educating myself sooner. Now that I have, I see works by Jewish authors in a different light. And it makes me nauseous 🤢
During the early years of the series publication Clare’s biases were especially well out there, pretty implicit in her writing. There was the mess with the “I think” post, her favoritism of specific appearances (that to this day apply!), the favoritism of the Nephilim in general—the whole character of Jace Herondale himself! It’s not at all unfounded idea that what you said could be true. The same themes certainly are present in her works.
(I haven’t read anything from Sarah J Maas, but I’ll take your word for it.)
The whole series pretty much—including the child soldiers—romanticizes war. The true and heavy losses are not focused on (Max, anyone?), are brushed aside if they do not serve the anguish of a main character, death in battle is trivial if it is either the nameless/minor characters or the bad guys dying. But it could be a more general problem with young adult literature as well, not excluding that.
It’s rather unfortunate for Clare’s actual and true fans that she remains silent. I haven’t seen or found any statement from her. One TikTok commenter said that they needed her “to be one of the good ones.” It’s sad that her supporters who pour their heart, love, time, and money (!!!) into her and her works have to teeter on the edge of uncertainty because she is saying nothing. Clever really, being silent as if trying to play both sides in order not to alienate or lose either side of her fan base (and I don’t even know what other people) as if people will forever be satisfied with not making a stand of any kind.
Clare is a New York Times best-selling author, multiple times over, she has a platform. She has the platform to amplify the voices in Gaza, to condemn the action of IDF, even as little as to show support for the innocent civilians suffering in inhumane conditions, but it seems there’s nothing. I obviously can’t say what she could be doing that is not public, but if you’re doing charity or giving aid to the people—a big if since what do I know what she really thinks or does—it’s still strange that you wouldn’t share that at all.
Don’t be too hard on yourself and shame yourself for not knowing sooner or not knowing better earlier. There’s ton of things around us—media most of all—that might affect the amount of information people even receive about this, or any issues around the world. A lot of people, including myself, learn more and more over time, and the point is learning and becoming more aware of the absolute tragedy and horror that is happening in Palestine and has been happening for decades already.

For those of you unfamiliar, @purimgifts is a yearly exchange of a set of three (short!) fics or podfics with a graphic treat (potentially terrible clip-art if you are so delightfully inspired) included in each one. /I usually do covers, as illustrated here 😅 The goal of the exchange is to focus on a character who is jewish and/or a woman and/or possibly persecuted by an evil vizier... with some leeway as to your personal definition of 'vizier' allowed. (Valentine totally qualifies as a Vizier, plus there's Simon & Maia & Clary & Izzy & Catarina &etc. for my Shadowhunters friends if they'd like to join us next year?!? :D) It is a joy and a delight of an exchange, 12/10, highly recommended, (even the discord is a lovely supportive place) and this year's collection has Been Revealed, so look! I wrote things! This year I wrote for Becky Chambers' Wayfarers Series (specifically the first two books because I have A Lot of Sidra Feels) largely because I feel we all deserve a little more cozy found family in our sci-fi and our lives.
a toast to the living
to no longer drinking alone
On beginning and endings, on drinking a toast to the stars and whatever might be hiding inside them. aka Rosemary's journey from exile to crew.
to being an us
It's isolating, being a kit instead of a ship, being alone in her "head" instead of Linking to whatever she needs to know next. It's frustrating, knowing no one else understands, and that she can't risk trying for something else, for more. Until she realizes she already has it.
to the lost and the found
On memories and guilt, relief and success. To the ghosts of the past, and the hope for the future. Pepper takes a moment to realize they made it.

So I Finally Read Sword Catcher by Cassandra Clare
There will be some level of spoilers so do be aware all who enter here.
I was apprehensive at first when i heard Cassie was writing a book in an entirely new setting, a new adult book no less, after writing YA for as long as I can remember. I've seen authors attempt to pivot to a different age bracket before and it is a challenge if you're not fully prepared for it.
Sword Catcher is entering the space where Game of Thrones and Gentleman Bastards have long ago carved out their right to be there and became titans of their own. It was surprising then to see both authors of the above had read Sword Catcher and had given a review for the back of the book - George R.R. Martin's quote and name was displayed proudly on the front of my edition for added flair.
It was a bold statement of intent, to sit among giants and share the space meant Cassie was putting her best foot forward. I don't want to suggest Lynch or Martin 'allowed' or 'gave permission' for Cassie to be in this space but they did vouch for her, showing a creative respect which carries weight and expectation.
I'm so happy to say Cassie pulled it off.
I'll admit I was cautiously optimistic about Sword Catcher, about Kel and Connor and Lin, a slightly worry that perhaps Cassie's years as a YA author could hold back the potential of this new work. If in being really honest, Shadowhunters is very important to me and I think part of me was unsure about leaving it behind.
Cassie's ability to build a world here is striking in it's ability to never overwhelm the reader with context and exposition without losing any of the depth and complexity you'd expect from a novel concerning kings and kingdoms. You come to learn of Castellane's long and muddled history over time, never giving away more than is needed to make the world feel complete but without throwing nonsense terms around which would simply not be remembered.
The class divides that permeate the work, held up by proto-capitalist greed and the politics of nations happening atop a towering hillside is fed in lockstep with the rest of the plot, holding enough information in front of the reader without giving the whole mystery away. Woven throughout is the Ashkari people, very clearly a Jewish analogue, a nation with no homeland other than the one their communities reside in. Locked inside the Sault after nightfall and looked upon with distrust, othered because of their ability to use even limited magic. I'm certainly not selling the tact and nuance Cassie brings to the world and the people who live in it but it's beautifully presented and should be applauded.
I don't have much to say about the characters, mostly because I can see their journey has just begun and I'm excited to see them all grow and change as the narrative unfolds. What I will say is Lin can do no wrong, Kel is just a fella, and Connor is one of the best written protagonists for how deeply flawed and naive he is and yet I simply cannot wish him ill.
I summary, Sword Catcher is an almost flawless first entry into a series I could see becoming a favourite of mine and I cannot see where it goes next. What a dazzling and captivating read.

What do you think Sizzy would name there kids???
I feel like if where thinking about who they could name them after, Simon has: George, Levi (His dad). And Izzy has: Max, And Robert (tho I’m 99% she would not use this)!!
I know a lot of people headcanon Luke and Leia as there baby names but I lowkey hate that 😭😭
ALSO, Simon and Izzy kids are definitely the opposite of Izzy’s siblings, I can imagine them with three girls and than just one boy!!
If they are girls I can see: Georgia/georgina, and than Maxine (for max :,)))
Other names they could use are old lightwood names as well: Gabriel, Gideon, Christopher, Cecily, Anna, Sophie/Sophia, Thomas, Eugenia, Barbara, Tatiana, ect ect ect
ANWYAYSYSYS i wanna know your name ideas <344
i honestly haven't thought about it that much! just because i don't want to get too attached to some names when we could very well be served totally different ones in the twp epilogue or something lol making headcanons that could be disproven can be a disappointing game unforch..
i do, however, completely agree that they'd be more girl parents than boy parents. don't ask me why. it's a vibe. plus they already have their nephews. but also idk any time i imagine their future family, it's the daughters who appear more prominently in my mind.
anywayy i do in fact have an opinion about the name max, which is that i don't think they'll use it as a first name, even feminized. it would just be too much with the blueberry already kickin around yk? i can see them using it as a middle name tho, which i think would be sweet.
also levi maxwell? obsessed. obsessed obsessed. accidentally and quietly adding that to my hcs despite what i just said lol (see this is why i don't think about it ;)) ah!! i would just love so much for simon's dad to be represented. imagine little levi asks about his name and simon gets to recall some of his fondest memories with his own father?? (except for the one but shh we don't talk about that) <33
i do think it would be a great idea to feminize george, mainly just because his death would have been the most recent and i think being able to switch it up a bit would be a good way to honor him without it feeling as heavy as it could yk? plus georgie is such a cute name.
i'd love for them to give one of their daughters the middle name rebecca too <3 i just think it would be so special for simon to be able to carry on these names from his mundane family (and culture) into shadowhunter life. plus becky deserves the recognition imo. i don't think it would be a first name tho. i could also see them carrying sophia along as a middle name.
overall i think sizzy would probably lean more away from giving traditional family first names to their kids than other shadowhunter parents? while i don't think this means they'd be naming their kids luke and leia.. i can see them wanting to be more creative, and give their kids the chance to carve their own paths if they want to.
there's always more jewish names, for one. like abigail? abigail would be cute. and then yeah i could see them using a fictional name tbh... but maybe one they come across more in passing than from a piece of media that's already so beloved? also.. would it be cheesy for them to name a kid brooklyn? lol
anyway they have a lot of possibilities hehe
levi maxwell. abigail sophia. brooklyn rebecca. georgia simone ??? too much? idk hehe this is too fun <33
