I know he's losing in the Kinkmas votes but, if we could get any reader x Michael ‘Riff’ Tamblyn (WSS) I would love it and I know a lot of the fandom would, too. There's very little fics out there anymore for WSS.
Day 10 of Kinkmas: After The Dance With Riff
pairing: Michael ‘Riff’ Tamblyn x fem!reader
warning: hickeys, protected sex, hickeys, riding
Tumblr media
Y/N’s POV
There’s 2 weeks until the homecoming dance and I don’t have a date, which I really don’t care if I don’t because I rather stay home anyway watching TV, read books, or do my homework, like I normally do on a Saturday night.
One day, Michael Tamblyn, also known as, Riff, asks me to go to the homecoming dance, which I got so excited about because he’s the kindest and sweetest (to me) boy I’ve ever met.
Yes, I’m in the Jets but the reason why I’m in it because I met Debby in English 1 and she introduced me to the Jets. They told me that another gang name Sharks are dangerous, I’ve met María and her brother’s girlfriend they are so sweet and I try to treat them like they treat me and they appreciate it.
When I met Riff, I fell in love, but I can’t believe that he asks me to go to the dance.
When Riff picked me up we picked up some other jets including their girlfriends. We arrive at the school and the gymnasium looks pretty decorated! Riff holds my hand and takes me to the dance floor to dance. We begin to dance and our friends join in, I feel someone bump into me, I turn my head to see Velma and her date, I get excited to see them and Velma and I do this little hand gesture to each other, Riff turns us around and continues to dance but I’m hugging him while we dance.
I look around and see Tony, I tape Riff on the shoulder and he looks behind him and he sees Tony. We walk up to him and we let him join where the jets are at but he wanted to walk around.
Some of the Sharks come in the gymnasium doors, I already know what’s coming. I see María, I give her a little smile, We made an agreement that we would make little gestures to each other but we will make them not that obvious.
Riff and I kept on dancing and apparently Riff bumps into someone and then it turned into world war three, everyone yelling at each other, Riff screaming at the Shark in front of us and him holding close to me, I wanted to leave but we all hear a whistle and everyone payed attention to whoever blew the whistle.
The judge kept on telling us to behave, have you ever met Riff, he doesn’t behave at all. We do the dance but things go overboard, we ignore his orders so we danced on our own, it was so fun.
After the dance, Riff and I went somewhere, we went to West Point, where people go to make out. When we got there, he gets into the back seat and we start to make out. He gets my straps of my dress off my shoulders and he kisses my neck, I moan. He begins to give me hickeys which made me moan again. I get on top of him and begin to give him some hickeys, he holds me tight to keep me in place.
After a while, clothes on the car floor, moaning in the car, and the car is kinda rocking. Riff is going in and out of me. We’re protected don’t worry! I get on top of Riff and start to ride him. I can hear him groaning, I can hear other people screaming and groaning which makes me go faster, Riff sits up and kisses my chest.
After us making out, we get back home and my parents almost killed me because of the hickeys that Riff gave me but I don’t care, he’s so good to me that I sometimes forget that he’s done that to me before.

A little more thundercracker? (I'll even take a smidge of Skywarp if you'll allow it)
Sure!
Tumblr media
Better Open the Door Pt 2
Thundercracker x Reader, Skywarp x Reader
• Somehow movie night is now an ongoing Friday night thing. And as crazy as it is, you even begin to look forward to it. Waiting impatiently for the credits to roll and the last car to pull out of the drive in has you fidgety. Excited even as you grieve your bank account, you set up the telescoping little, cloth screen and hook the new projector up to your laptop. It’s not that Thundercracker has said a word about having to watch movies on your tiny laptop, but you still feel slightly bad about it. The two of you had run through the Mission Impossible movies and you can admit you like his easy, laidback companionship. The questions he asks as you sit beside each other in the dark like he really wants to know the answers. Cares about your opinion. Your neck cranes as you hear the now familiar scream of a jet engine overhead, your smile wavering when there’s a second jet right behind.
• Venting heavily as he lands in a clearing near the drive in, he rounds on Skywarp as soon as he transforms. “You promised to behave,” Thundercracker growls, worry bright in his processor. Worry that he’s making a mistake and his tiny human will suffer for it. The promise being only a vague ‘I won’t break your little secret pet.’ Smirking, the purple and black mech pushes the servo leveled at him away and looks around.
• You hear their heavy steps before you see them and sure enough, there’s another one stepping out of the woods behind Thundercracker. Your skin prickles as that new robot spots you and grins in a decidedly unsettling way. That is exactly how you imagine a shark looks before biting down on a seal. Seeming to sense your unease, Thundercracker bends and scoops you up into his huge hands and you inhale sharply. Because he’s never grabbed you before and as he straightens you realize you might have a newfound issue with heights.
• “I said I wouldn’t break your toy,” Skywarp laughs as he stalks around, expression sly as he studies the little human clinging to Thundercracker’s servos. “Relax.”
• That interest is dangerous, rasping uncomfortably over Thundercracker as he forces his attention down to you. No matter what Skywarp says, if he decides it might amuse him, he might accidentally hurt you. Toy with you without realizing how fragile you are. “You okay?” He asks, feeling your insubstantial weight and how much softer you feel in his servos than he’d guessed you would be. Looking up at him with the trust that he’ll keep you safe. That small smile you give him spreads warmly through him.
• Nodding, you slowly relax. While you don’t trust this new alien at all, for better or worse, you do trust in Thundercracker. And you feel better about your instincts on his buddy when he shoots him a look that’s pure warning before setting you down near your setup. Shivering as you slide out of his hand, you realize exactly how warm he is and how chilly the night is. “I have something new tonight. It’s still action, but it’s also, um, well, it’s a bit different,” you say, floundering on how to explain a romantic comedy to a giant alien robot. Knight and Day still has enough action you think he might like it, but the romance bits? Maybe you should have chosen Mr. And Mrs. Smith instead.
• Your two huge guests settle themselves and you start the movie, retrieving a blanket to wrap yourself in as you sit on the ground near Thundercracker’s leg. As far from his buddy as you can get and the stranger just smirks like he knows you’re afraid of him and finds it particularly hilarious. A servo touches your shoulder, as the movie starts. “You’re shaking.” Thundercracker murmurs and you offer him a smile. Because he does keep an eye on you. Worries over you. Before you can explain it’s just a bit cold outside, he’s carefully picking you up again and you stiffen as he cradles you in a hand against his chassis. And he’s gloriously warm. Exhaling, you lean into him, giving in.
• It is a different kind of movie and it snares him, the interactions between the main characters fascinating. In his hand, you curl more firmly into him as the story continues. As engrossed in it as he is, he’s still very aware of you against him. Of your little head resting against his canopy and the change in your breathing. Trusting him so completely, you can let your guard down and rest knowing he’s there. That he has you and it’s such a precious thing. On the screen, the humans slowly evolve from at odds to lovers. Slowly. Softly.

Lemon Sharks
Spencer Reid x autistic!reader
Summary : Spencer comes home from a case and finds the reader exhausted.
Cw : Emotional exhaustion (?)
Word count : 551
A/n : This is my first time writing here! It’s very short. English is not my first language. Please let me know if you like it!
-------------------------------------------------------
The apartment is illuminated solely by the television's light. A documentary on marine wildlife has been circulating there for more than two hours. You must know it by heart by now.
Lemon sharks are named after their yellow-brown skin that helps them camouflage in the sandy, tropical waters they inhabit.
The day was anything but easy. This morning, the subway was unusually crowded. To run it all, your noise-cancelling headphones ran out of battery. Every noise was amplified in your head. This old man banging his cane against the ground, this lady loudly chewing her breakfast,... You mechanically pulled the skin of your thumb without even noticing it.
The day has only gotten worse. The usual work schedule is exceptionally changed by another. The only colleague you got along with left. And finally, your long-time boyfriend, Spencer, is still not home.
You thought about texting him, but you knew that on the jet, he probably wouldn’t get it. You missed him terribly. You missed your hugs. So you missed the way those hands stroked your hair. It’s been five days since you last saw him.
Sicklefin lemon sharks are highly adaptable and intelligent animals, and their behavior can vary depending on their habitat and environmental conditions.
Learning is one of the things you love the most in the world. Documentaries help a lot with that. You’re on your couch, a heavy blanket on the shoulders, eyes staring at the television absorbing every word of the presenter when the door opens.
"Hi" is the first word you hear from Spencer when he walks through the door. Your head is resting on the armrest and it seems too heavy at this time of day to lift it. You still manage to say a sleepy hello to your boyfriend. You can see him getting rid of his shoes and jacket before he heads to the living room. "I see that someone is tired" He said leaning against the couch to put a kiss on your forehead.
"Sorry, hard day. I can’t wait to hear yours" Your voice barely audible. Each syllable requires considerable affort to come out of your mouth. "Sure, but did you eat today and drink a minimum of 1 liter of water ?" It has occurred so many times to be immersed in something so intense that you fail to make yourself food or even drink water. "Yes, I didn’t forget anything this time! Did you take something to eat on the road ?" Spencer gently nods.
"What are you watching ?" Excitement takes over. "A documentary about Lemon Sharks! Did you know they could live more than 27 years ?!" He knows, of course, but pretended not to please you. You position yourself on the couch so that your boyfriend can sit behind you and softly rest your head on his thighs. His hands run through your hair. Forming circles that almost make you fall asleep. "Do you want to go to bed ?" He asks, his voice is sweet. You nod, eyes closed.
You are now in your bed, in comfortable clothes, your head rests on Spencer’s chest while he holds your hip firmly. Your eyes are close, his are on you. Everything seems to be better. "I missed you", were the last words heard before you fell asleep.

Natasha Romanoff x fem!reader
A Family of Her Own Series
9/10
Masterlist | General Masterlist
w/c: 6k
Summary: After the fall of the Avengers, Natasha Romanoff returns home to her secret family—a life she's carefully hidden away for years. Struggling to balance her role as a mother and wife while avoiding the dangers of her past, Natasha is forced to make difficult decisions that impact her loved ones.
This Chapter: Natasha raises Nicky on her own.
Note: I think I spent a total of nine hours on this chapter today. I wanted this one to be out immediately after the other one. 'Twas hard editing and Grammarly hates me but we got it.
There were boxes. So many boxes and bags she needed to pack into this quinjet. Apparently, she was better at multitasking than she thought as Natasha loaded up another item up the ramp. She eyed the pile of bags and boxes stacked by the entrance of the house, each one a piece of the life she was trying to keep together. There were essentials: clothes, supplies, and every scrap of familiarity she could gather for Nicky. But even so, packing felt like she was gathering remnants rather than carrying a life forward.
Natasha hefted another box onto her hip, balancing it while she reached to open the hatch on the Quinjet. She’d been working nonstop, only pausing to check on Nicky, who was perched near the ramp with Stella's stuffed shark clutched in his hands. He missed his sister. He toddled around the quinjet, picking up rocks, and patches of grass, attempting to stuff them into his mouth.
"Nicky, no, don't put that in your mouth," Natasha gently scolded. The toddler dropped the blade of grass and gave her a look that reminded her of you. That look tore through her every time, spurring her to work faster, to keep him distracted, safe, and normal—even if she didn’t know what “normal” looked like anymore.
“There we go,” she murmured as she placed the box inside, taking a deep breath before straightening up and dusting her hands on her pants. “See? Told you we’d fit it all.”
Her words fell flat in the empty cargo bay. She glanced around, looking for Nicky. A bolt of panic shot through her as she caught sight of him toddling away from the jet.
“Nicky! Stay near the jet!” Natasha called her voice firm but gentle, a note of weariness woven through it.
But as always, Nicky was determined, his little legs carrying him farther down the hill, his gaze locked on the swaying trees at the edge of the clearing. She cursed softly under her breath and jogged after him, scooping him up just as his fingers reached out for the grass. His small face crumpled, the beginnings of a pout forming, and he squirmed, his hands grabbing at the air, trying to clutch the grass he’d been reaching for.
“No, baby, it’s not safe,” she said firmly, tucking him close as he fussed. She forced herself to look away from the tree line. He didn’t understand, but she did. There were too many memories lingering there, places she couldn't risk letting him wander.
Nicky’s lip quivered, and his small hands gripped her collar in silent protest. She sighed, cradling him closer, and kissed his forehead, murmuring, “I know. I know, buddy. We’ll be home soon.”
She walked him back to the jet, where the boxes and bags were already stacked and waiting. Nicky’s weight against her shoulder was steady, grounding—so unlike the lightness and emptiness she felt inside. He was growing quickly, each day a small reminder of time slipping by. He’d be two soon. How had it already been three months? Three months of hollow silence, of talking to him in soft whispers, of answering questions she knew he was too young to ask but that he felt in his own way.
“Almost done, buddy,” she said, trying to keep her tone upbeat, but her voice cracked. She turned back to the house, and with him still clinging to her, walked through the door one last time to grab the last bag. Standing there in the doorway, she felt the weight of everything she was leaving behind, the faintest echoes of laughter and warmth still lingering in each corner.
With a deep breath, she slung the bag over her shoulder and glanced around. She was carrying everything she could now, every piece of what you'd built, gathered together in the small world she’d assembled for Nicky and herself.
“You’re getting heavy,” she murmured to him with a small smile, though it didn’t reach her eyes. Nicky settled his head against her shoulder, his tiny fingers clutching at her sleeve as if he knew she needed the comfort more than he did.
It was time. They couldn’t stay here any longer, in a place so haunted by the memories of you. As much as it hurt, she knew returning to New York was the only path forward. The only way to find you. There were no resources here in Missouri. The compound had everything she needed. Natasha began to walk distractedly back to the quinjet, lugging the bag and Nicky effortlessly. She set him down, noting that he was following her, as she placed the bags into the bay. As Natasha slid the last bag into the Quinjet, she heard a faint jingling sound behind her. Her first thought was that Nicky had gotten hold of one of her empty holsters, and she was about to gently tell him to stay back. But then her voice caught in her throat as she turned around and saw it: a large, powerful-looking German shepherd standing a few feet away, intently sniffing in Nicky's direction.
Her body tensed instinctively. The dog was big, with a thick, well-muscled frame and the kind of alert gaze that signaled sharp intelligence and strong instincts. Natasha stepped forward slightly, inching closer to Nicky, her body a barrier between him and the strange dog.
“Hey there…” she said quietly, her voice steady but wary, as the shepherd lowered its nose toward Nicky, taking in his scent. Her eyes darted between them, ready to scoop Nicky up if the dog showed even a hint of aggression. But instead, the dog took a step closer and gave a short, chuffing sneeze, his head cocking to the side in an unexpectedly endearing way.
Nicky let out a tiny laugh, his hands reaching toward the dog without hesitation. Natasha’s heart lurched. Nicky had never been afraid of anything, and this was no exception.
“‘Mama,” Nicky said excitedly, his face lighting up. “Doggie!”
The dog, apparently pleased with the attention, let out a gentle huff and pressed its nose into Nicky's small hands, tail swishing low but wagging softly. Natasha exhaled slowly, her hand resting protectively on Nicky's back as she took in the scene.
“Alright, I guess you’re friendly,” she muttered, unable to keep a faint smile from creeping into her expression as she watched Nicky's chubby fingers grasp at the dog’s fur. The shepherd sat back on its haunches, its gaze moving between Nicky and Natasha as if patiently awaiting a command. "Where's your owner?" Natasha asked.
She scanned the area, her body tense, her hand resting on the knife strapped to her thigh under her pants, but saw no sign of anyone else. It didn’t make sense. How had the dog managed to get out here on its own? Of course, the house wasn't completely in the middle of nowhere but he'd have to walk far on his own.
The dog seemed content, its gaze flicking back to Nicky. Its tail thumped softly, and a low whine rose from its chest.
"Mama, doggie," Nicky giggled again.
"I know, the dog is nice but he can't stay," She shook her head. "We have to go. C'mon, kiddo."
Nicky looked at her with wide, pleading eyes, his little mouth turning down in a pout.
"Do we have to?" she groaned, knowing she'd lose this battle.
Nicky clapped his hands and squealed, his voice rising into an excited babble, and the dog let out a soft huff.
"What's your name?" She reached slowly for the dog tag. She squinted, holding the small piece of metal closer, but it was faded. Her brow furrowed as she tried to make out the words etched there.
"Ollie?" She tilted her head.
The dog stood and stretched, its large body shaking. It gave a gentle bark, its ears flicking as it regarded Natasha.
"Alright, okay, we can keep you for a little while," She nodded, a reluctant smile tugging at the corner. She carried Nicky over to his car seat, ensuring he was strapped in. Natasha watched as Ollie hopped into the seat beside him and rested his head in Nicky's lap, just beside the stuffed shark.
She was almost surprised when Nicky didn't fuss or try to wriggle out of his restraints. Instead, his small hand tangled in the soft fur at the top of Ollie's head, and he looked at her expectantly. As if they knew each other their whole lives. Natasha smiled to herself as she took her place in the pilot's chair, running a last system check before taking off.
She could have sworn the dog looked right at her, its head cocked, its ears swiveling toward her. She felt a sudden wave of sadness, her fingers tightening around the controls.
"Don't worry, buddy," she murmured, her voice tight with emotion. "We're going home."
*********
Natasha paused just outside the glass doors of the compound, shifting the weight of the toddler on her hip. Nicky’s tiny hands clung to her jacket, his gaze curiously drifting over the building as if sensing it was different from the small home they’d left behind. She'd forgotten that he had never been there. He hadn't known her life as an Avenger. It felt like a lifetime ago.
It was different now. Emptier. The building was quiet and dark, save for a few lights here and there. The once-busy hallways were now nearly silent. No footsteps echoed against the tile, and no voices or laughter broke the stillness. The air was cool and smelled faintly of food. Someone was cooking.
The sound of claws tapping against the floor made her look back. Ollie padded up behind her, his tongue lolling out in a panting grin, his tail wagging softly.
"Okay," Natasha muttered walking further into the compound. "We're home, Nicky."
He made a small, inquisitive noise and buried his face against her shoulder, his little fingers curling into the fabric of her jacket.
In the kitchen, Tony and Pepper sat together at the counter, sharing a quiet dinner. They were deep in conversation, their voices low, but Natasha caught glimpses of concern in Pepper’s expression as she leaned closer to Tony. They were discussing something serious—she could tell by the way Tony was fiddling with his coffee mug, brow furrowed.
The sound of her footsteps made them both look up. Tony’s mouth fell open for a beat before he quickly regained his composure, but the shock in his eyes was unmistakable.
“Natasha!” he exclaimed, his voice somewhere between delighted and bewildered. “And...a kid?”
“Yeah.” Natasha tightened her hold on Nicky, who watched Tony with wide, curious eyes. “This is Dominic.”
Tony blinked, looking from her to the toddler and back again. “Is he...yours?”
“He’s mine,” Natasha replied softly, her tone steady but carrying a weight that only those who knew her well could understand.
"Did you steal him?" Tony asked. He barely flinched at the pinch Pepper given him under the table.
"No, Tony, I didn't steal him," she muttered.
"But you've been gone for—"
"He's my son," She cut in, her tone firm, leaving no room for doubt.
Pepper's expression softened.
"It's nice to meet you, Dominic," Pepper's voice was soft and calm.
Nicky made a soft noise and tucked his head against Natasha's shoulder, shy and uncertain.
"This is Aunt Pepper and Uncle Tony," Natasha murmured to him. "They're good people."
Tony and Pepper exchanged a brief look.
"He's a mini you, Nat," Tony said quietly, a small smile creeping into his expression.
"I tend to think he looks like my wife," Natasha shrugged. You did birth him after all.
Tony’s jaw dropped, and he blinked at her in shock, trying to process the words.
“Your…wife?” he repeated slowly, looking at Natasha as though he were piecing together a puzzle.
A flicker of emotion crossed Natasha's face—something softer, something mournful. She glanced down at Nicky, brushing a gentle hand over his hair as he burrowed closer to her shoulder.
“Yes. My wife,” she confirmed quietly, her voice laced with a kind of bittersweet strength. “He takes after her, you know—especially the smile.”
Tony opened his mouth and then closed it again, his brow furrowing, and Pepper reached to cover his hand with hers, gently squeezing his fingers. "And the dog?"
"I stole him," She said.
Tony chuckled softly.
Natasha was suddenly exhausted. It was too much, too fast. She needed space. Space to breathe, space to process, space to be with her son. She shifted her weight, and the motion drew Ollie's attention.
"He's been a good help," she murmured. "Dominic's not fond of long rides. Usually y/n would sit with him and help him sleep."
“Oh, Natasha…” Pepper murmured, reaching out to gently touch her arm. “I didn’t know. I’m so sorry.”
Natasha gave a small, tight nod. “It was…before all of this happened.” She took a deep breath, glancing around the compound as if seeing it with fresh eyes. “After the snap, I…didn’t know what else to do. And I thought maybe…coming back here might help us.”
Tony cleared his throat, clearly still processing. “Well, you’re here now, and that’s what matters. You’re both welcome here, Nat.”
Nicky peeked up at Tony, his shyness momentarily forgotten, and Tony gave him a little smile and wave. “Hey, kiddo. I’m your Uncle Tony, and we’ll…work on getting you into the best tech school money can buy.”
Natasha’s lips curved into a faint smile, some of her tension easing. “One step at a time, Tony.”
He held up his hands, conceding, and gave a small chuckle. "You must be hungry. Have you eaten?"
"No," she admitted.
"Sit. I'll get you both something."
"I don't think he'll eat anything."
"He's gotta eat something," Tony waved a hand. "I made steaks."
"You cooked?" Natasha questioned.
"Yes," Tony shot her a glare. "And you're welcome. Pepper and I have been taking turns, but it's not as if we have a chef."
"I'm sorry," Natasha whispered, a small blush creeping up her neck.
"Sit, Nat. I'll get you both something," Pepper said softly.
"Thank you," she murmured, her gaze shifting to Nicky. Before Tony could ask more questions, Steve stepped into the kitchen. He was sporting some serious five o'clock shadow and his hair had grown at least an inch.
"Nat?" he said, his voice hoarse, his eyes widening slightly. He was frozen to the spot.
"I thought you might have run off to Europe again," Natasha commented.
"I, uh, have some business here. Wanted to be back if things changed," He answered.
"I'm glad you did," she said, a sad smile forming.
"How's Nicky?" Steve asked.
"Wait? You know him? You knew about him?" Tony brought a plate of food to place in front of Natasha.
"I did," Steve shook his head."I met him when I went to get Nat and her family," He shrugged.
"Family?"
"Yes, Tony. Family. Y/n is my wife. Nicky is our son." Natasha clarified. "Stella is...she's our daughter. She's three."
"But you were gone," Tony said. "A lot. Here with us. Like all the time."
"I took breaks, Tony. And yes, I was gone a lot. That's why we bought a house. Y/n could stay home. It was easier than having a nanny or putting Stella in daycare."
"Oh, uh. I didn't know," He murmured, suddenly realizing how insensitive he was being.
"I didn't mean to interrupt. I just came for a drink," Steve said, grabbing a bottle of water and backing away.
"Steak, Cap?" Tony called.
"I'm good, Tony," He waved.
"You could stay," Natasha suggested.
"I don't want to intrude," Steve said.
"You won't. Nicky needs someone to keep him busy. Ollie will only entertain him so much," Natasha chuckled.
"Ollie?" Steve looked confused.
"Our new dog. He found us before we got here."
Just as he sat down, Nicky reached for Steve, his tiny arms opening and closing. Natasha's heart lurched. He was looking for a connection with the only other person he knew. Steve scooped Nicky up, placing him on his lap, and began to speak to him in a low, quiet voice.
"So," Tony clapped his hands, breaking the tension. "What did this wife of yours look like? How did you meet her?"
Natasha took a bite of her steak, chewing it slowly, letting the silence draw out until Pepper gave him a look. "She was a former SHIELD agent."
"She was?" Tony was confused.
"Yes," Natasha nodded.
"When did you meet her?" Steve asked.
"Tony, I really think we should discuss something else," Pepper told him gently. She could see the tears forming in Natasha's eyes.
"Like what?" Tony was oblivious.
"Tony, she lost her family," Pepper scolded.
"Right," Tony backed down for once. His curiosity was evident.
"Tell us about him," Pepper gestured toward Nicky.
"He's stubborn," Natasha smirked. "Just like his mother. And he's brave, and he's smart."
"We're going to get them back Nat," Steve said firmly. She wished she could believe him.
**************
The days had started to blur together, each one folding into the next in an endless cycle of searching, planning, and hoping. Natasha clung to Steve's words with everything she had, holding onto the idea that somehow, she’d bring you and everyone else back. She pushed herself to the limit, reaching out to anyone and everyone—Okoye in Wakanda, Rocket and the Guardians, and even a scroll of world leaders. Every door opened led to another closed one, and yet she kept moving forward, refusing to believe that all hope was lost.
But being an Avenger, a relentless force in her search, wasn’t her hardest job. Every time she returned to the compound after a long, fruitless day, her hardest job began: being a mother to Nicky. He’d started speaking more, toddling around the compound, exploring every nook and cranny. His laughter resonated down the quiet halls, moments of brightness in an otherwise somber world. Yet there were days he grew frustrated, looking around as if he knew someone was missing but couldn’t understand why.
Here they are in their suite just the two of them and Ollie. Ollie watched with slight interest, one ear raised, as Natasha placed a single cupcake in front of them on the coffee table. Finding it had been a challenge—most bakeries in New York were still struggling to recover, their shelves often bare and their employees long gone. But today was special. Today was Nicky’s third birthday, and despite everything, she was determined to give him a good day.
The cupcake was modest but beautiful, topped with a swirl of frosting and a single candle flickering gently in the still air.
“Look what I found!” Natasha exclaimed, leaning closer to him with a playful grin. “It’s your very own birthday cupcake!”
Nicky clapped his hands and giggled. "It's my favorite color, Mama."
"Red," She smiled, her fingers gently tugging on his ear.
"Like Mama's hair."
"Yes, like Mama's hair," She kissed his cheek, pulling a box of matches from her pocket.
"I'm three," he added, holding up three fingers. "A big boy."
"That's right, baby," She lit the candle and started singing, her voice quiet and slightly raspy.
As the song ended, Nicky squealed and bounced up and down in her lap. "Make a wish, sweetheart," Natasha whispered.
Nicky looked at the flame for a moment, his brow furrowing slightly.
"Do I blow it out, Mama?"
"Yes, that's what we do. We blow it out."
"And then we make a wish?"
"Yep."
Nicky stared at the flame, his chubby hands resting on Natasha's forearm, and let out a short puff of air, the flame wavering and sputtering out.
"What did you wish for?" she murmured.
Nicky grinned. "A basketball."
"You like basketball?" Natasha's brows rose.
"I wanna play basketball," He told her.
"Maybe when you're bigger, kiddo," She chuckled softly.
Nicky nodded, his attention moving to the frosting. Natasha quickly swiped some off the top, and he eagerly opened his mouth.
"Good?" She asked.
He gave an enthusiastic nod. "More, Mama."
She obliged, wiping more frosting onto her finger, and he giggled as he took it from her.
"Okay, you need a bath after this. Then we can play with your new toys," Natasha said.
Nicky paused a smudge of red frosting at the corner of his mouth. "Can we watch more videos of Mommy and my sister?"
"Yes, we can." She kissed his cheek, her heart twisting with pain and joy."Happy birthday, Nicky," She murmured, wrapping her arms around him and holding him close. She reached for the phone, found the birthday video you'd taken in France, and played it for him.
"It was so nice to celebrate your birthday here, baby. Look at you. You're so big." Your voice sounded from the speakers.
Tears sprang to Natasha's eyes as she watched. She was doing the best she could, but nothing could replace you. It was only a matter of time before Nicky understood the situation fully.
"That's my sister," Nicky said excitedly as Stella stepped into the frame.
"Yes, that's your sister," Natasha agreed. "She's a good big sister."
"Where's Stella and Mommy?" He asked quietly, his tone hopeful.
Natasha's chest tightened. She'd told him many times that you were away, and she was working on bringing you home. It was a lie that grew harder to tell each time he asked. She wasn't sure how much longer she could keep it up.
"They're away right now, Nicky," Natasha answered gently.
"How come they're not here?"
"Mommy and Stella are in another place," Natasha explained, brushing her hand over his hair. He really needed a haircut. "It's far away."
"Like a trip?"
"Sort of," She nodded, not sure how to continue.
"Are they coming home soon?"
"We're working on it," She said, swallowing hard.
"Can I play with Ollie now?" He asked.
"Sure, honey. He's been waiting for you."
Nicky scrambled from her lap, his small body moving across the room. The dog stood and stretched, shaking his fur before padding toward the toddler.
"Be careful, okay?" She warned him.
Nicky was already on the floor, his fingers tangled in the dog's fur. Natasha's eyes turned back to the video.
Natasha watched you scoop him into your arms, your laughter loud and carefree, his giggles infectious. Her heart twisted in her chest, aching. A tear rolled down her cheek.
"I love you," she whispered, her gaze turning toward Nicky. He was sprawled on the floor with Ollie, the two of them engaged in an intense game of tug of war.
She loved him enough for the both of you.
********
The days turned into weeks and weeks turned into months, and Natasha found herself lost in the whirlwind of motherhood and the unending search for answers. The ache in her heart was a constant reminder of what they had lost, but she held onto hope, even if it felt threadbare. This was year three.
The morning light streamed through the window as she sipped her coffee, the mug warming her hands. Today felt different, though—a change was in the air. She sensed it even before Steve arrived with his suitcase in hand, a determined look on his face.
“Hey, Nat,” he greeted her, his voice steady but soft.
“Hey,” she replied, setting her mug down. “You’re moving out?”
“Yeah, I found a place in Brooklyn.” His smile was filled with sadness, but he tried to mask it.
“Oh,” Natasha said, feeling a pang in her chest. Steve had been a steady presence, a support system when everything else felt chaotic. “Are you sure about this?”
“I need my own space,” he admitted, glancing around the suite that had become their makeshift home. “I think it’ll be good for me. For all of us. It's been three years since the snap."
Natasha felt her breath catch in her throat, her fingers tightening on her mug. Three years.
"And I...I can't stay here any longer, Nat," he continued, his gaze distant, as if he were seeing the past.
She understood. The compound held memories, good and bad, and for Steve, those memories were a constant reminder of his lost love. Tony and Pepper had announced their pregnancy shortly after she moved in and had gone lakeside with their newborn, Morgan. For the past few years, it's just been the three of them. It became routine to have Steve at lunch or dinner.
"I get it," Natasha nodded, taking another sip of coffee.
"But, hey," he added, trying for a more upbeat tone. "I'm not too far. I'll be back to visit. And I'm still working on finding a way to bring them back. We'll get them back, Nat."
"I know."
"And you're welcome at my place any time."
"Thanks, Steve," Natasha managed a small smile. "And thank you. For everything."
"It's what friends do," he shrugged, pulling her into a hug.
"Take care of yourself," she murmured.
"I will," he assured her. "And don't be a stranger, okay? My door is always open."
"I'll remember that," she gave a soft laugh.
Steve lingered a moment, a flicker of uncertainty crossing his features.
"Something else?" She prompted.
"No, no," Steve shook his head.
With that, he was gone.
**********
Natasha was truly alone now and she found herself stretched thin. Every answer she'd gotten only led back to square one. There was no getting you back. There was no coming back from this. Today was one of those days. Nicky was being particularly stubborn, a trait he had inherited from both her and you. He had spent the morning refusing to pick up his toys, ignoring her gentle reminders to tidy up.
“Nicky, please,” she said, her patience waning as she knelt beside him. “We need to clean up before we can play outside. You can’t keep leaving your toys all over the place.”
He looked up at her, his hazel eyes mirroring your defiance. “No! I wanna play with Ollie!”
Natasha felt frustration bubbling inside her. “You can play with Ollie after you clean up. That’s the rule,” she insisted, trying to maintain her composure.
Nicky scowled, his little fists balling up, and stomped his foot. “No!” he shouted, crossing his arms stubbornly. “I don’t want to!”
The defiance ignited something deep within Natasha, and she took a deep breath to steady herself. “Nicky, I need you to listen to me. This isn’t just about toys; it’s about helping each other. We’re a team, remember?”
Her son shook his head, a few stray tears falling from his eyes. "I want my mommy!" he shouted, his lower lip trembling. "You're no fun."
"Well right now you're mommy's not here," Natasha swallowed. "I'm here and I'm telling you to pick up your toys."
"No," Nicky muttered, his stubborn streak on full display.
"Fine," Natasha snapped, pushing herself to her feet. "If you want to act like a baby, then I'll treat you like one."
She stalked away from him, grabbing a pillow from the sofa and dropping it on the floor.
"Go sit in time out," she ordered.
"No, Mama," Nicky whimpered.
"Time. Out."
"I don't want time out."
"It's either time out or the naughty step," She said firmly.
"No," he shouted, his tiny fist hitting the pillow and knocking it off. "No, no, no, no." He yelled.
"Dominic," Natasha's voice was sharp, her gaze hard. "Stop that right now. I am your mother and you will obey me."
"You're mean," He muttered, his cheeks flushed.
"You're the one being mean right now," she pointed out. "Now sit down and stay there until I say so."
"You don't tell me what to do," He screamed. "I want my other mommy, not you."
His expression remained resolute, and Natasha could feel her temper flaring. “You’re ruining my life!” she snapped before she could catch herself.
Nicky recoiled as if she had struck him, his eyes welling with tears, and for a moment Natasha thought he might apologize. But then he was crying, his tiny shoulders shaking, his face scrunched up with emotion.
Ollie let out a soft whine, nudging his head against Nicky's leg.
"Nicky," She breathed.
"You don't love me," He cried, his arms wrapped tightly around the dog.
"Nicky," Natasha repeated, moving to kneel beside him.
"You don't want me."
"Nicky, no," Natasha said softly, her heart breaking at the sound of his sobs.
"You wish I wasn't here."
"No, no, Nicky."
"I wanna go back to Mommy," He hiccuped, his tears still falling. Nevermind the fact that his memories of you were fleeting and few.
"Nicky, look at me," Natasha tried, her fingers gently tilting his chin up.
"No," He refused, his gaze fixed on the ground.
"Please," she pleaded.
Nicky met her gaze, his eyes filled with tears and sadness.
"I'm sorry, Nicky. I'm so sorry. I didn't mean that. I was just frustrated. You can't say those things. That's not true," She shook her head.
"Then why?"
"Because," She started, her heart pounding in her chest. "Your mommy is gone and I'm trying so hard to bring her back. I'm sorry baby. Listen to me."
"You yelled," He accused.
"I know. I shouldn't have done that."
"My ears hurt."
"I'm sorry. Here," She pulled him onto her lap, her arms wrapping around him. "Mama's so sorry. Baby."
Nicky buried his face against her shoulder, his small hands clinging to her shirt. "Mama," He hiccuped, his fingers tangled in her shirt.
"Baby, listen to me. I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said that," She sighed.
"You're not mad?" He mumbled.
"I'm not mad," She reassured him, kissing his head. "I'm so sorry. I promise you I'm trying. I'm doing everything I can. Okay?"
Nicky nodded.
"You know I love you so much, right?"
"Yes."
"And your mommy loves you. So much. She would be so proud of you. Okay?"
Nicky let out a shuddering breath, his fingers clutching her shirt.
"You're my boy," She murmured. "And I'm going to do everything I can to keep you safe."
***********
The streets of New York City were eerily empty as Natasha walked along the sidewalks. It had been a long time since she’d ventured out on her own, without Nicky by her side. She had left him with Steve, knowing the six-year-old would be safe and entertained while she took a moment to breathe. The city felt both familiar and foreign, a blend of memories and shadows that lingered in the corners of her mind.
Though she’d tried to hold onto hope, there were days when it slipped through her fingers like sand. Natasha brushed a hand through her hair, exhaling slowly as she took in the skyline, the towering buildings standing as a testament to resilience—something she desperately needed to muster within herself.
Her feet carried her toward a small bar tucked away between two larger establishments, the neon sign flickering in the dim light. It seemed inviting, almost like a refuge from the overwhelming world outside. Natasha hesitated at the entrance, her fingers curling around the door handle, but then she pushed it open, her boots landing on the worn floorboards.
A handful of patrons occupied the tables, their heads bowed and voices hushed. No one seemed to notice her as she approached the bar, the bartender polishing a glass and humming softly to himself.
He glanced up as she sat down, a half smile playing on his lips.
"What can I get ya?"
"Just a beer," she replied.
"Coming right up."
The bartender grabbed a bottle and popped the cap off before sliding it toward her.
"Thanks," she said, taking a long swig.
He leaned closer, his eyes appraising her. "I don't mean to be nosy, but you look familiar."
Natasha tensed, her fingers gripping the bottle tighter.
"I knew it," he smiled. "You're an Avenger."
"Yeah," she nodded.
"What brings you to our neck of the woods?"
"Just needed a break," she admitted, her voice low.
"From?"
"Everything."
"Sounds rough," he commented.
"It's been a rough few years."
"Tell me about it," the bartender shook his head. "This whole snap thing has really shaken up the city."
"You can say that again," Natasha muttered, taking another sip of her beer.
Sensing that she needed to be alone he left her to her thoughts. As the bartender walked away, she glanced around the room, her gaze landing on a woman seated a few stools down. The woman was alone, her dark hair cascading over her shoulders, a book resting on the counter beside her.
"It's Harry Potter," The woman held up her book. "Dorky right?"
"Not at all," Natasha smiled.
"I'm Nora," the woman offered her hand.
"Natasha."
"You're an Avenger," she grinned.
"Guilty as charged."
"You guys are heroes."
"Thanks."
"How's that going?"
"Honestly, I've had better days," Natasha laughed bitterly.
“Is this seat taken?” Nora asked as she moved closer.
"All yours."
"So, what's an Avenger doing at my local dive bar?"
"Just trying to clear my head," Natasha answered.
"Well, I'm glad you're here."
"Me too."
Natasha took another swig of her beer, the alcohol burning her throat.
"Wanna talk about it?" Nora asked.
"There's not much to talk about," Natasha sighed. "My wife's gone. I'm raising our son on my own. The rest of the team has split up, and I have no idea what's happening."
"Oh, wow," Nora's brow furrowed. "That's heavy."
"Yeah," Natasha nodded.
"I'm sorry," Nora gave her a sympathetic smile.
"It is what it is," Natasha shrugged, downing the last of her beer.
"Here," Nora offered her a shot glass filled with amber liquid.
"I shouldn't," Natasha hesitated.
"You should. Trust me. It helps."
Natasha accepted the shot glass, swallowing the liquid in one gulp.
"I don't want to seem weird, but if you need someone to talk to, I'm a pretty good listener."
"And if I didn't want you to listen?"
"Well, I can be there for other things too," Nora smirked.
Natasha met her gaze, a slight flush creeping up her cheeks. "Yeah, you can."
"Are you busy tonight?"
"Not at all," Natasha laughed, her mood lifting.
"Wanna get out of here?" Nora suggested. "My apartment is down the street."
"Lead the way." She gestured, slapping a twenty dollar bill on the counter.
“Am I really doing this?” Natasha wondered silently, her thoughts racing. She hadn’t intended to meet someone tonight, let alone flirt with them, but something about Nora's easy demeanor and infectious laughter drew her in. It had been ages since Natasha had allowed herself to entertain thoughts of connection beyond her role as a mother and an Avenger. Was this just a fleeting moment of distraction, or could it be something more?
Nora led the way down the street, her long strides effortlessly navigating the sidewalk. Natasha followed closely, acutely aware of the warmth radiating from Nora’s presence. “This way,” Nora called back, her voice light and inviting.
As they walked, Natasha couldn’t help but replay the evening in her mind. The shot had loosened her inhibitions, allowing her to share more than she had intended.
“Are you always this quiet?” Nora asked, glancing over at her. She took Natasha's hand in her own. A presumptuous move.
Natasha smiled, enjoying the feeling of Nora's hand in hers.
"I'm on the third floor," Nora narrated as they took the elevator to hr apartment.
The door opened into a cozy space, the lights dimmed and the scent of cinnamon lingered in the air.
"So this is my humble abode," Nora announced, her hand gesturing around the room.
"Nice place," Natasha commented, her gaze lingering on the bookshelf and the photographs decorating the walls.
"Make yourself comfortable," Nora invited, slipping her shoes off and tossing her jacket onto the armchair.
"Thanks," Natasha smiled, sinking into the sofa and resting her head against the cushion.
Nora settled beside her, a glass of wine in each hand.
"So, do you frequent that bar a lot?"
"More often than I'd like," Nora admitted. "But you didn't come all the way to my apartment to get to know me."
"No," Natasha agreed, taking a sip of her wine. "I didn't."
It's almost as if Nora instantly knew what she needed or assumed she did. She straddled Natasha's lap and moved to kiss her. Natasha turned her head.
"I'm sorry I just.." Natasha shook her head. Nora doesn't take offense. She simply nuzzled Natasha's neck. It's there Natasha allowed her to place a kiss.
"You smell so good," Nora murmured, her fingers brushing through Natasha's hair.
"Thanks," Natasha breathed.
Nora's lips brushed over her neck, the sensation sending shivers down her spine. Natasha leaned into the touch, her eyes closing.
"I'm sorry if I made you uncomfortable," Nora said softly.
"No," Natasha assured her. "You didn't."
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah," Natasha smiled.
Nora returned the smile, her fingers tracing patterns on Natasha's skin.
"You're beautiful," she murmured.
"So are you," Natasha replied, her fingers tangling in Nora's hair. Nora's kisses continued on her neck as her hands worked Natasha's belt buckle.
"Nora," Natasha gasped.
"Relax," Nora breathed.
"I can't."
"Yes, you can."
"We're moving fast."
"Too fast?"
"Maybe," Natasha sighed.
"You can tell me to stop."
"No, no, it's okay," Natasha insisted. "I just...need a minute."
"Of course," Nora smiled, her fingers trailing along Natasha's jawline.
"You're not like other people I've met."
"How so?"
"You're..."
"Charming? Sexy? Funny?" Nora teased.
"I was going to say sweet," Natasha smiled but it didn't quite reach her eyes.
"You miss your wife," Nora sighed.
"It's almost five years,"
"And you haven't been with anyone since."
"No, I haven't."
"You're lonely," Nora said, a sympathetic smile playing on her lips.
"Yeah," Natasha admitted. "I'm sorry. I can't do this."
"It's fine," Nora assured her. "I understand."
"Thanks," Natasha said.
"Are you hungry?" Nora asked.
"Starving," Natasha replied.
"Good," Nora smiled, standing up and offering her hand. "I've got leftover pizza."
"Sounds perfect," Natasha laughed.
They ended up eating the pizza on the couch, their knees touching as they chatted about everything and nothing. All Natasha needed was a friend.
***************
Natasha sat on a bench, watching Nicky play. He was growing up fast, his hair now cascading past his shoulders, and he was lanky and tall for his age, nearing seven years old. It was hard to believe how quickly time had passed since the Snap, and that he was already older than Stella ever was.
Nicky dashed around, his laughter ringing out like music, as he chased after a group of pigeons. He had taken a liking to animals, a trait he had most definitely inherited from you, and was always eager to see whatever was running around the compound.
Natasha chuckled, her gaze fixed on her son.
"He's getting big," a familiar voice called out, making her turn.
"Yeah," she smiled.
"Can I join you?" Steve asked, motioning to the empty space beside her.
"Of course," she scooted over.
"So how are you holding up?" He asked, settling down.
"I'm alright," Natasha replied.
"Just alright?"
"You know," she shrugged.
"It's getting easier, isn't it?"
"What is?"
"Living without them."
"Steve," she sighed.
"I'm sorry," he apologized. "I just wanted to check in."
"No, it's fine," she waved off.
"I'm here if you need anything."
"I appreciate that," she smiled.
"You look happier," Steve observed.
"Do I?"
"Yeah, you do."
"I feel better," she admitted.
"Good," Steve smiled. "That's good."
"Mama, look," Nicky called out, showing her the pigeon perched on his arm.
"That's great, buddy," she smiled.
"I'm gonna name him George," Nicky declared.
"Okay," she laughed. "We're going to double wash you during bath time."
Nicky frowned, his nose scrunching up.
"It's true," she nodded. "You don't want George to give you a disease."
"Oh," he sighed. "Alright."
"I love you, baby."
"Love you too, Mama."
"Be careful," she reminded him.
"I will."
Nicky ran off again, the pigeon and Ollie following behind him.
"It's getting late," Natasha commented, glancing up at the darkening sky.
"Yeah," Steve agreed.
"Do you have to be anywhere?"
"No," Steve shook his head.
"Good, I'd like the company."
"Glad I can be of service," Steve laughed.
They watched in silence as Nicky played, the sky streaked with pink and purple hues. He was the only real memory she had of you. She'd cherish him forever.

Y/N L/N BREAKS DOWN 'CORNELIA STREET' | s.kerr
Tumblr media
summary: you breakdown the story behind and the lyrics of your song 'cornelia street'. [1k words]
pairing: singer!reader x sam kerr
notes: classic genius video
[STUDIO; PALE PINK BACKGROUND, Y/N SITTING]
Y/N L/N: Hi, I'm Y/N L/N and today I'm breaking down my new single 'Cornelia Street'.
'CORNELIA STREET: THE BREAKDOWN'
[CORNELIA STREET INSTRUMENTAL PLAYS IN THE BACKGROUND]
[STUDIO; PALE PINK BACKGROUND. Y/N SITTING, A SMILE ON HER FACE]
Y/N L/N: I wrote this song about my girlfriend, Sam and how we kinda came to be? I guess? It's about realising how much a newer love means to you and how much it could ruin you.
[INSTRUMENTAL PAUSES]
Y/N L/N: Well.. that was a little dramatic, wasn't it?
'WE WERE IN THE BACKSEAT DRUNK ON SOMETHING STRONGER THAN THE DRINKS IN THE BAR // "I RENT A PLACE ON CORNELIA STREET" I SAY CASUALLY IN THE CAR'
[STUDIO; PALE PINK BACKGROUND. Y/N SITTING, A SMILE ON HER FACE]
Y/N L/N: These lyrics reference one of the first times that I ever met Sam. She was in London and playing for Chelsea, I was there co-writing with another artist at the time and we were introduced by some mutual friends. We ended up in an Uber together after a night out and she asked what I was doing in the UK, and I told her about a little apartment that I rented at the time.
[CUTS TO A CLOSER SHOT OF Y/N'S FACE]
Y/N L/N: She soon became very very well acquainted with that apartment.
'WE WERE A FRESH PAGE ON THE DESK FILLING IN THE BLANKS AS WE GO // AS IF THE STREET LIGHTS POINTED IN AN ARROWHEAD LEADING US HOME'
Y/N L/N: Sam and I weren't really sure what we were doing at the time, if it was official or not, we were making it up as we went really. She's got a super busy schedule, her workload is very demanding. That was something we both came to terms with very quickly in our little 'will they, won't they' situation.
[CUTS TO Y/N HOLDING UP A POLAROID OF SAM POINTING TO THE 'CORNELIA ST' STREET SIGN]
Y/N L/N: I think we were really lucky that my schedule wasn't super hectic at that point in time, because I'm not sure how we would've managed it (CHUCKLES). Now we've been together for nearly two years, we've worked out a system.
'AND I HOPE I NEVER LOSE YOU, HOPE IT NEVER ENDS, I'D NEVER WALK CORNELIA STREET AGAIN // THAT'S THE KIND OF HEARTBREAK TIME COULD NEVER MEND, I'D NEVER WALK CORNELIA STREET AGAIN'
Y/N: This part is my favourite.
[CLIPS OF SAM FILMED ON A SUPER-8 FILM CAMERA, Y/N IS FILMING. SAM IS LAYING ON THE COUCH LOOKING OVER TO Y/N, SHE WAVES SHYLY FROM HER SPOT UNDERNEATH A GREY THROW BLANKET]
Y/N L/N: It's pretty self-explanatory to be completely honest. I don't plan on losing her anytime soon.
[B-ROLL FOOTAGE; SAM SITTING ON A CHAIR BEHIND THE CAMERA, WATCHING Y/N SPEAK. A BIG SMILE ON HER FACE]
'AND BABY, I GET MYSTIFIED BY HOW THIS CITY SCREAMS YOUR NAME // AND BABY, I'M SO TERRIFIED OF IF YOU EVER WALK AWAY'
Y/N L/N: I had never watched football before Sam... like, ever. I wasn't a fan, I had no interest in it. So when we started dating she took me to my first ever game and I watched her play again Man City. The crowd just loved her (Y/N SHAKES HER HEAD IN DISBELIEF). I never realised how much Sam could hold thousands of people in the palm of her hand. They adore her.
[CLIPS OF Y/N ON THE BIG SCREEN AT A CHELSEA GAME, PANS TO SAM ON THE PITCH, SMILING UP AT THE FOOTAGE]
Y/N L/N: It was funny because.. we had just gotten back from flying from.. somewhere? who knows. but Sam had gotten in the morning of the game and the crowd did this chant. It was 'even with jet lag, she's better than you' (LAUGHS).
[CLIP OF THE CROWD CHANTING 'EVEN WITH JET LAG SHE'S BETTER THAN YOU'. SAM TURNING AROUND TO LOOK AT THE CROWD SHYLY]
Y/N L/N: I mean it's true (SHRUGS). I was so taken aback by how much they all just loved her, but now whenever I sit in the crowd section, I make sure we chant it... it's my favourite.
'BACK WHEN WE WERE CARD SHARKS, PLAYING GAMES, I THOUGHT YOU WERE LEADING ME ON // I PACKED MY BAGS, LEFT CORNELIA STREET BEFORE YOU EVEN KNEW I WAS GONE'
Y/N L/N: There was a moment before Sam and I officially got together that I almost.. ran away? kinda.
SAM (OFFSCREEN): Kinda?!
Y/N L/N: (LAUGHS ALONG WITH THE CREW) I did, I completely did. I for some reason just got really nervous that she wasn't as serious about it. I had lots of conflicting feelings at the time, but Sam was very quick to get me back on track and make me realise what the important things were.
'BUT THEN YOU CALLED, SHOWED YOUR HAND, I TURNED AROUND BEFORE I HIT THE TUNNEL // SAT ON THE ROOF, YOU AND I'
Y/N L/N: She fixed it all, as she does. Sam is very good at that.
[CLIP OF Y/N AND SAM KISSING OVER THE BARRIER OF CHELSEA'S HOME GROUND]
Y/N L/N: She fixes everything.
'YOU HOLD MY HAND ON THE STREET, WALK ME BACK TO THAT APARTMENT. YEARS AGO, WE WERE JUST INSIDE // BAREFOOT IN THE KITCHEN, SACRED NEW BEGINNINGS THAT BECAME MY RELIGION, LISTEN'
Y/N L/N: I don't stay at Cornelia Street anymore, Sam and I live together now when we're both in London. We went back before I wrote this song and it was so surreal to realise that someone else was now in that apartment.
[PHOTOS OF Y/N AND SAM FADE ONTO THE SCREEN, ALL FROM INSIDE THE CORNELIA STREET APARTMENT]
Y/N L/N: We spent so much time in that apartment it was like our first home together. Really it was just a place for us to spend our down time. I love that apartment and I try to go back every time I'm in London... which is a lot. So, thanks to Cornelia Street for having me and thank you to Sam for having me.
[CUTS TO A CLOSE UP OF Y/N]
Y/N L/N: I'm very lucky.

can't stand the rain // george russell
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
summary: the nights are always long and lonely when she misses her lover. but dating a formula one driver isn't easy, and she knew that when she started dating the most wonderful and exciting man that she had ever met.
pairing: george russell x female reader
warnings: longing and pining! the harsh reality that which would be dating someone like george russell, but there is a happy ending! allusions to sex, but not written out.
I can't stand the rain, against my window cause he ain't here with me//hey window pane tell me, do you remember how sweet it used to be? when we were together everything was so grand//now that we parted there's just one sound that I just can't stand
it was on nights like these that she missed george the most.
rain drops crashing down against the window panes, a steady haze of fog rolling across the english country side.
she hated that sound when he wasn't here to share it with.
y/n was sitting on the couch by the window, a scented bath and body works candle on the coffee table, burning and filling the main floor of the house with that simple, summer scent as she wrapped herself in a blanket, powerpoint presentations reflecting off the blue light lenses as she typed.
dating someone as magnetic and larger than life as george russell was no easy feat. the days and nights were long, the timezones too much to bear as his schedule demanded he jet off to some faraway country every weekend.
sometimes, it felt like her george wasn't actually her george, but the world's george.
she slammed her laptop shut, rubbing her eyes under her glasses before she turned on the tv, dialing in to sky sports as the warm up for the evenings race began.
if george were here, they would be watching some stupid movie on netflix (last rainstorm it was bait, a movie about tsunamis and twelve foot long sharks), with the plush calvin klein blanket pulled tightly around their bodies until one of them got tired of the film and started getting handsy.
something about the rain always got george russell going. those afternoons usually ended up with y/n on her back, georges gentle kisses against her skin as he made love to her, the pitter patter of the rain in the background.
she missed him.
the race ended, and she sent him a congratulations text, knowing that he did the best that he could in a car that wasn’t where either mercedes driver had expected it to be.
she blew out the candle, phone in the back pocket of her jeans as she moved to the kitchen of a house that felt too large for just her alone as she warmed up the kettle.
her phone rang, and she slipped the small device out of her pocket, beaming as she swiped up to talk to the most important man in her life.
“hey, beautiful.” george russell beamed from the other end of the line, and the other side of the world. “how are you feeling?”
“tired.” y/n laughed. “uni is relentless. remind me why I decided to go to law school?”
“because I wanted a strong, powerful girlfriend?”
“hilarious. it’s killing me slowly.” she grimaced, placing a bag of peppermint tea in her indigo mug. “you had a good race today, honey. I know the car is shite this year, but you’re driving the hell out of that thing.”
“you know what, I think I’m finally getting the hang of the car.”
“that’s really good, georgie. I’m proud of you.”
george smiled sadly, wishing that he could reach through the phone and hold his lover in his arms. every part of his skin, his body aches for her touch, for the feeling of cradling her in his arms again.
“I miss you. I’ll be home before you know it, yeah? you’ll wake up in a few mornings and I will be there and you’ll get to wrap your arms around me and we’ll make the most of the time we have before I have to go to the next race.”
“I wish it were easier. I wish I could come with you.”
“I know, sweetheart. I know.”
two days passed since that phone call, and the rain showed no signs of stopping. a few times the downpour has lightened to a manageable drizzle, but it was still as if the clouds in the sky were reading her emotions.
reading how much she longed for georges presence.
how she missed watching him play backgammon with his mates at the table by the french doors, sunlight refracting on his face.
how she missed his touch, even when it was the touch of his cold, cold feet in bed.
how she missed his cooking, even when he burned the simplest of dishes and ended up ordering takeaway (and swallowing his pride).
the weather outside reflected how she felt, but that fact did nothing to make her feel better. george was stuck in team meetings, despite the promise of a two week break before the next double header began.
she was debating the merits of going to visit her parents in the city, reconnecting with the world and getting away from her feelings and her term papers. it seemed like all she had done since george left was drink peppermint tea and pore over old court documents.
until the morning all was right again.
the sunlight was orange as it filtered through her curtains, the sun just beginning to rise over the hilly countryside. she heard footsteps, and the sound of the creaky bedroom door swinging open.
she’s have to to tell george to fix that.
george.
she didn’t believe her eyes. there he was, kneeling in front of the bed to kiss her forehead. she grumbled his name, trying to peel her groggy eyes open.
“I’m right here, darling. caught an earlier flight. there’s an iced coffee in the fridge for you.”
she smiled, reaching for his hand. “I missed you.”
“I know, love. can I join you?”
“you may.” she hummed, pulling the blankets back up over her shoulders. normally she would have loved to watch her boyfriend undress, but this morning she was far too sleepy to care about the sound of georges heavy hilfiger belt hitting the hardwood floor.
eyes still closed, she felt the mattress dip next to her as george slipped underneath the covers, taking her into his arms. she sighed contentedly, resting her head on his bare chest as the driver ran his large hand up and down her back.
“I love you, y/n.”
“I love you too, george william russell.”

Jealousy and blood - the master x fem!reader
(sorry this is my first drabble so it's probably horrible.)
"Do you think I want this? that I want my hearts to ache for you every moment that we are apart? that only a few words could destroy all I've been desperately clinging onto for years."
The master stood opposite you, his jet black hair ruffled from how much he'd run his hands through it. He stood leaning against the tardis console that was groaning slightly under him.
"Then why do you keep me around?" Blood stained your outfit, it was new only that morning.
"Because I'm a selfish man. You know that." The master walked closer to tower over you. Causing your body to shrink back momentarily before straightening again.
"I want you, I crave every inch of you and I'm sick of pretending like I only keep you around to annoy the doctor. I saw your face earlier. You where terrified of me!"
The earlier events of the day filled your mind. The master standing there, covered in blood. The body of someone who you vaguely knew lay at his feet. The man had given you a compliment. It was nothing more than a kind gesture but the master had taken it as a challenge.
He watched as your eyes widened and you took a slow step back. His mind snapped out of his jealous rage to realise what was actually happening. The master tried desperately to speak but you had disappeared into the tardis before he could mutter a word.
"I've never seen you like that before. shrinking someone into that size of a toy is one thing but that..."
"I know." For the first time, the master looked truly remorseful. "And I know this isn't what you want to hear but I can't stand the thought of you with anyone else. Please, just be mine."
You raised a brow at the master's request. "Are you asking me out?"
"yes... you could put that that way."
"Fine, but less blood, it's the only thing I can't handle. That and sharks." The master pulled you into a tight embrace, the blood on both your outfits mixing and staining into each other's skin.
Slowly he leaned down to mutter in your ear. "I think we should change."

Riff + "I don't really know how to dance..." || "It's never too late to learn" ?? x
I rewatched WSS today and ngl it feels good to return to writing Riff
Still accepting blurb requests! - Open to new characters!!
Fluff 5 - " I don't really know how to dance..." || "It's never too late to learn"
Tumblr media
"You know, normally people actually... you know dance at a dance, girly girl."
Y/N smiled shyly at her friend. Riff had come over to where she had huddled herself into the corner of the gym, hoping to let the eyes of her peers pass over her. She should've known Riff wouldn't be able to do that, considering it was he who had spent the better part of the last few weeks trying to convince her to take a night off of work to attend the dance.
"I'm just having a drink," Y/N lifted the cup of punch to emphasise her point. Something fluttered in her chest at the slight eye roll it garnered from Riff, who folded his arms and leaned against the wall beside her.
"Well I'm sure by now you're nice and hydrated and ready to take the dance floor by storm, right doll?" He teased, eyebrows raising.
Y/N chuckled, forcing herself to look away from his eyes, determined not to get caught out staring. It was just... it was rare to see Riff in a state of such - for lack of a better term - cleanliness. Y/N was used to seeing her friend covered in paint or dust from his scuffles with both his fellow Jets and the Sharks.
And the jacket he was wearing this evening didn't have a single hole ripped into it. A shocking feat, if you were to ask Y/N.
Basically, what she was trying to say was that Riff cleaned up well. And Y/N wasn't really sure how to respond to that.
"I don't have a partner," Y/N denied, pretending to find something particularly interesting about the wood patterning of the gym floor, tracing the lines with the toe of her shoe. Anything to avoid the disbelieving look Riff was directing towards her.
"That's a load of horseshit," Riff finally burst out with a scoff. Y/N risked a glance at his blue eyes just in time to watch him roll them yet again. "I'm right here, girly girl. Aren't I?"
And... yes. Y/N supposed Riff was right there. For almost a month now she and her childhood friend had been skirting the borders between friendship and... something more. Stemming from a night of too much stolen beer, where they had ended up stealing away from the Jets - not overly secretively, if their whoops and hollers were anything to go by at the time - and Riff had pressed her up against a wall in an alleyway and-
Well... Y/N could feel the heat crawling up her neck at the memory and she suppressed a shiver.
Since then, things had changed between them. Riff would walk her home from work more often, he'd pull her onto his lap when they were talking, he'd wind an arm around her waist if he thought she was getting a little too comfortable with any of the other Jets.
A couple more stolen kisses here and there, too. But Riff hadn't said anything. Hadn't done anything to indicate that he actually wanted something more than... the casual-more-than-friendship thing that they had going on.
At least, that had been true up until he had started harassing her about coming to the dance. And if the intense look he was giving her was anything to go by, Y/N was getting the feeling that had been Riff trying to make it.. something official.
Though, Y/N had apparently taken too long to formulate a response to Riff's blatant invite. Because the leader was clearing his throat, pushing himself more upright and it was he avoiding her eyes now. Y/N could have sworn she saw a dusting of pink across his cheeks.
"Or - I mean I'm sure any of the Jets would dance with you if you asked. No need to have one partner."
Riff went as though to move away, but Y/N reached out to catch her fingers in his sleeve before he could get too far.
"I didn't mean it like that," she whispered. Riff cocked his head to the side, questioning. "I do want to dance with you, Jet Boy. I promise. It's just... I don't really know how to dance?" She offered, forcing herself to meet Riff's eyes.
A slow smirk made its way across his face, his eyes crinkling at the edges as he showed his amusement. And then Riff plucked the cup out of her hand, placing it on a nearby table and presenting Y/N with his hand in a dramatic flourish that had Y/N grinning.
"It's never too late to learn, girly girl."

DULCE PERICULUM | CHAPTER III - MOONLIGHT
through me among the people lost for aye.
(John Wick x Reader, Santino d'Antonio x Reader)
Tumblr media
The city of angels.
It was a night of profound clarity through the dim lights. Sparkling moonlight adorned pavement older than time, millions of brave and lost souls’ footsteps embedded in every crevice of the cobblestones.
Sampietrini, they were called. The traditional cobblestone on every major road of the ancient city, still surviving to the modern days. Battered, bruised, hit, yet still standing intact. Both a blessing and a curse to walk on.
Sampietrini.
Little Saint Peters. It was fitting that the patron saint of Rome protected over the sacred center of the ancient world, watching over it’s citizens as the guardian angel, shielding from harm's way almost. In every crevice, corner and side of the cramped up cacophony of buildings, alleyways that tied into their intricate maze for those who knew how to navigate it. Those who longed to get lost in it, each step taking into another unknown, yet another thrill. Each step taken further away from the safety of the large squares, wide open spaces bustling with people. Would the next step lead to a new danger to overcome, almost taken as a willing challenge, or would it open to the vast corridor of sunlight waiting at the other end?
The unknown.
Why did you long for the unknown? Why did each melodic thud of your heels against the pavement take you one step closer to danger, it seemed?
Who was your patron saint for the night, watching over your shoulder with every move you made?
It had been a couple of short hours from the time your private jet landed the place you called home, the sleek black car disappearing into the night like a shark, after escorting you to city center. The slightly cold nighttime breeze grazed your hair as it flowed freely, cobblestone smoothly transitioning into marble steps, then into the soft red carpet leading up to the giant double doors.
It was impossible to miss Il Continentale, at least for the ones who knew how and where to look. Specks of decorative light adorned the exterior, guards in full uniform at the entrance, with their hands holding the massive gates open for you to pass. The grandeur would only seem to continually increase with each taken step, an accustomed luxury of decadent chandeliers reflecting rays of light on green and coral marble columns, red velvet couches a mere step against sheer height of Renaissance ceilings within the expansive lobby. The countless of times you found yourself in the safe haven, your eyes almost always would divert to the worn yet lively murals adorning the ceilings - little angels, demons and saints alike, a cacophony of depictions let it be an eternal sins or act of good.
What caught your wandering eyes were the small halos etched on the figures of saints, denoting all that was holy they stood for, evoking the eternal respect of mere bystanders.
Devoid of sin.
Unlike you, and the people who walked this ground before, after or with you.
To your dismay, the golden shimmers of halos painted over the saints seemed to dim with each passing visit.
“Buona sera, signora,” came the friendly voice of the reception peering behind the grand marble counter with a casual backdrop of Botticelli spanning the entirety of the wall. Thoughts quickly shooed out of your mind with trained ease and a kind nod thrown his way, you watched your escorts quietly slip to the shadows of the back rooms as they carried your belongings through the establishment’s inner maze of corners, corridors and doors without being seen - secrecy being a top priority at a luxury assassin’s lair.
After all, there was no telling what horrors or pleasure went through the very four walls of each room of the hotel. What deals were done, dirty or nice, secrets spilled or treasures lost. Just like many others before you, your heart joined the slowly dissipating anxiety within your body of what was to come your way.
Many times you had walked in here, just like this. The sheer moonlight illuminating the ornate architecture, the classical crevices and elegant panels in lazy hazes. Heels digging against the marble, men and women in classical attire roaming about, often clutching a drink from the bar you tended to frequent more than you would have liked to admit. Many a nights you put your head on the plush pillows, sleep a welcome luxury at moments, embracing the warmth of it.
However, some tight knot deep, deep within your stomach kept reminding you of just how different this night would render the future.
It sent an even more unwelcome shiver down your spine.
Your eyes then found the man behind the counter once again. He did not have to ask you for your business here, nor for how many nights you would require service. He certainly did not need to remind you of the rules of the Continentale. No, he knew better than that as the receptionist’s fingers aptly swung over the keyboard in front of him, reaching for the phone next as he placed it over his ear. In the waiting moments that followed, your eyes wandered around the mostly empty lobby, more curious than hopeful to see if you would spot any familiar faces in the approaching dawn of the morning.
Besides the one you came here for.
“Ti sta aspettando,” came the long-awaited announcement from the receptionist, the respectful smile lingering at the corner of his lips as he carefully stepped aside to guide you towards the double elevators with an outstretched hand.
He was waiting for you.
“Grazie,” you would offer the man, a small yet audible chime signaled the bronze-colored elevator doors opening, taking casual steps inside. Watching the floor signs beam one by one as the chime signaling the penthouse finally went off, you let go of a breath that you did not realize you were holding.
Bronze doors did not leave any room for preparation as they opened to lead into a dark marble corridor, grand glass doors opening into the vast balcony with the eternally beautiful city lights twinkling in the distance as your steps took you closer to the center of the attention.
And, lo and behold, there stood your saint, pinstripe-covered arms stretched leisurely over the marble railings as he gazed over his kingdom. Candle light reflected off of the navy tweed on his broad back, sending a light sparkle on the crystal glass of the finest Chianti wrapped in his fingers.
Even with his back turned to you, a voice in you swore his green eyes twinkled  as he gazed at each monument, dimly lit window or reflection under the street lights.
A whole city rendered his playground, for his empire of sin to run foster. Each and every corner riddled with his influence, his men, his rules to be followed. An undeniable force running on unspoken rules, whispered by each passerby and accomplice included.
A cause for which you had been a loyal soldier, sworn for forever and always.
He had to break you first to own you, after all.
“It’s done.”
Your voice soft, betraying your previous anxiety during the journey back home. Mind transitioning into a state of eerie calmness, of habitual ease, the moment Santino turned around to meet your eyes. The eclairs of night danced in his dark curls, illuminating his taut skin. Piercing green found yours, a gentle grin on his lips right before the glass was raised up for another sip, perhaps in the light of the good news that were to follow. Manicured nails reached into your pocket for the long-awaited marker, placing it on the sleek black marble table extending through the length of the balcony.
The gleaming light off of the bronze marker, the object of his attention, hit Santino’s face, sending a look of partial relief upon the sight.
A content hum escaped his lips. “Bene,” his low voice uttered in a mere whisper, a soft beckoning of his fingers to call you closer to his position near the marble railing.
Your legs took you to your place right next to him, your hands finding the cool stone as you perched over gently. Standing next to him came so naturally. It was all you knew, for all these years. It was where you belonged.
Right next to him, on his right side. His queen, overlooking the kingdom she helped rule.
As your weary eyes took sight of the beauty in front of you that you could never get tired of, his hand found yours. Both creatures of habit, yet it never ceased to sent a shiver down your spine.
No one wanted to mess with Santino d’Antonio, and no one wanted to be indebted to him. That you knew. From the back of your mind, as you held onto Santino’s calloused hand, you could not help but wonder if a certain dark-haired assassin would repay his debt.
From then on, you could only hope he would not pay the favor back with his life.

Day 27 of Kinktober: Sneaking Around With Riff
pairing: Michael ‘Riff’ Tamblyn x fem!reader
warning: dirty talk, eating out, getting caught, unprotected sex, violence
Tumblr media
Y/N’s POV
Riff and I have been sneaking around for quite sometime but the Jets have been getting suspicious lately of Riff coming to their meetings late or him not showing up when Riff is needed when the Sharks are around the Jets.
I invited Riff to come to a spot that no one knows except for him and I but I want to do something different. When Riff found me, I was sitting on a crate naked with my legs spread out, I can tell he wanted me so bad but he just stood there staring.
“What’s the matter Riff, I don’t bite.” I said in a sweet voice he’s heard before.
“I wish we were married so I can this all the time.” He says approaching me.
“You know that my dad thinks you’re dangerous.” I said wrapping my legs around Riff’s waist.
“And the Jets don’t know about us.” He whispers in my ear.
“But that’s the fun part of it.” I whisper. “You can have me whatever you want, and you can always come to me when you’re having a rough day because I love it when you get rough.” I whisper again while trailing my finger on his body.
“Why’s that doll?” He said making us do nose to nose.
“The way you fuck me, you just go in and out, making me beg but you want to keep going and making me scream and moan until I cum, and then you take control on eating me out. But the way you fuck me, it’s different than you normally do, harder and rougher than usual.” I whisper in his ear.
“Where do you want to go hide and maybe, I can be rough with you.” He smirks.
“Wherever you want to hide.” I say.
Riff looks around and takes us to a different spot then where we not normally go to.
“This is different.” I say when Riff sets me down on a bench in a fort.
“Just want to make my baby feel good.” Riff says going down where my pussy is at.
I feel his tongue inside me, I gasp for a second, I tug on his hair which made him grab my legs so I couldn’t move them.
“I’m about to cum.” I moan.
He moans into me which made me moan again, fuck I need him inside me.
“Riff.” I make him look at me by tugging his head up to look at me. “Just fuck me.” I say.
He smirks and takes his pants off including his boxers off, he so huge. I lean towards him to make him be on top of me so we can make out. He positions himself so can fuck me. He goes in and out of me and I scream and starts to scratch his back, I can tell the Jets are going to make fun of him.
He keeps on fucking me until we hear the cat whistle. Riff and I look where the whistle came from and it’s the Jets, fuck! They found us.
“Well, well, well boys, look what we have here, our leader with a whore.” Joyboy says.
Riff covers me and himself up, but he tries to keep me behind him.
“So this is where you’ve been going to Riff isn’t?” Tiger says approaching us.
“Yeah, what about it?” Riff says.
I get scared so I hold on to Riff’s arm.
“Look boys, the whore is scared.” Joyboy says. The Jets chuckle.
“If you get near her I swear to god I’ll kill you.” Riff says.
“You’re defending the whore but you couldn’t be at the fights with the Sharks.” Mouthface confronts Riff.
“Stop calling me that.” I said.
“The whore speaks, did you blow hi-“ Riff slaps Tiger’s face.
“You son of a-“ Tiger and Riff begins to fight.
I try to hide but one of the Jets tries to grab me but Riff notices so he protects me from them. I find a knife so I hold it to in front of Balkan, Riff takes the knife out of my hand, Balkan looks smug and looks at the rest of the Jets and Riff ends the fight by punching Balkan in the face.
When the Jets leaves, Riff checks my body if there are any scars on my body. I check on his wounds, I help him sit down.
“Thank you for protecting me.” I smile.
“Anything for my girl, can you patch me up? I’ll try to patch you up as well.” Riff says.
I giggle, I try to find something to cover his wounds, I found an old t-shirt and I rip it apart so I can wrap the fabric around Riff’s wounds.
“You’re not a whore, you’re the best thing that’s ever happened to me.” He says holding still for me.
“And you’re the best thing that ever happened to me too.” I say wrapping some fabric around one of his wounds.
I give a look, I lean in to kiss him and he kisses me back. Sneaking around with Riff has been really fun but terrifying because of the Jets finding out about us but Riff protected me through all of this mess, and Riff knows what he’s doing when he’s in control.

Summary: Through a series of chaotic events, Jeff meets Cosmo the space dog; they proceed to cause more chaos together.
Word Count: 2446 Pairing: Natasha Romanoff x Reader Warnings: None A/N: happy birthday to @sunsetscarlett :)) here's the Jeff and Cosmo fic as promised and I hope you like it!! and to everyone else, hope you enjoy the fic and let me know what you think! :)
Tumblr media
Part of The Jeff Fictional Universe (you don’t need to read the others to understand)
Incessant buzzing of your watch drew you from the depths of sleep, forcing you to open your eyes and adjust to the darkness. Natasha stirred beside you.
Tapping the watch screen bathed the room in a pale light; you had to flinch away while your eyes adjusted, but you were finally able to read the message.
In the dark, your arm jumped around until it hit something solid; the groan that followed indicated it was Natasha.
"We have to get up," you mumbled, sleep still laced in your voice. You felt her shift beneath your hand, then the room lit up again, under the flow of Natasha's watch this time.
"I want a day off," she sighed, but then flicked the bedside light on regardless. The two of you prepared for work, because despite what either of you wanted, the world didn't wait, so you couldn't either.
"Is Yelena coming?"
"Couldn't see her on the list"
Natasha nodded. She shuffled in the wardrobe for your mission bags, while you let yourself into the room next door to nudge the sleeping shark. He shifted atop the covers, but ultimately stayed asleep. You nudged him again.
"Mrrrr," Jeff said with a yawn. His arms sleepily reached out and grabbed onto your departing hand, pulling you near.
Relenting, and apologetic for disturbing his sleep, you scooped him up with your other hand, grabbed his stuffed toy, and carried him to the car while he dozed on your shoulder.
Natasha was already waiting; your bag and hers were thrown into the boot, while Jeff's pre-packed travel kit lay on the back seats, beside his car seat. You set him down gently, using his plush shark to replace the comfort of your arm, then strapped him in safely. The car was set after that, and you began the quick journey to Yelena's house, dropping Jeff and his belongings off with many thanks and apologies to the blonde, before continuing on to the Compound.
Avengers in various states of wakefulness gathered around Fury in the conference room as the mission briefing was delivered. It would be a fight right from the offset, no retrieval or espionage, just a simple fight…in space.
"Do we need to bring lightsabers?" Tony scoffed, though you imagined he already has a stash ready for the occasion.
"Bring whatever you've got," Fury warned, "Carol's requested help for this one. Carol. I mean no offence but she could take any of you,"
"I'm a little offended by that,"
"Deal with it, Stark. If she needs help, you better bring all the fight you can. Understood?"
"Yes, sir."
"Good. The quinjet is already programmed; Hill will give you more information when you're up there. So get to it!"
At the man's orders, your team filtered out, spacesuits were handed out to those who needed them, then you strapped yourselves in. Natasha took the seat next to yours, the ones which had practically become your designated seats on this modified jet. She squeezed your hand with hers as the space launch began. You hoped Jeff would be okay.
Tumblr media
Maria had given you more information while on the journey to space, yet Carol insisted on another mission briefing after you’d arrived on the spaceship. No matter how interesting her speech was, the whole team had still been roused from sleep and subjected to three briefs on the same topic; all she got in response were vacant eyes and scattered yawns.
That changed when the doors slammed open, everyone lost interest in Carol, in favour of turning to watch the newcomers waltz in. You recognised all the heroes, the ones who had chosen not to become Avengers, despite their capability for it, but most importantly, your eyes were drawn to the blonde leading the group.
"Yelena?!" Natasha exclaimed first.
The younger Widow turned her head toward Natasha and broke into a toothy smile, "сестра! I was invited too!"
"What did you do with Jeff?!"
Yelena jolted at her sister's unwelcome greeting, frowning slightly before she held her hands up with the goal of calming Natasha down.
Still without a word spoken, Yelena shrugged her backpack off her shoulder, unzipped it, then tipped it upside down, causing your favourite land shark to tumble out.
It was your turn to clamour now, while Natasha surged forward to check Jeff was okay. "You brought Jeff to SPACE??"
"Well what was I supposed to do with him?"
You looked beyond the shrugging assassin to see your own Black Widow on the floor smiling as Jeff cooed and ran circles around her, his tail wagging so hard it moved his back end with it. He was unaffected by the whole situation, something Yelena should be very grateful for.
"Not bring him to space?" You sighed. "What did you do with Fanny?"
"Oh, she is with my neighbour!"
"And you couldn't have done the same with Jeff?" The land shark scrambled over to you now, and your intimidating stance on Yelena was ruined by your need to crouch down and give Jeff the head scratches he was after. It was worth it; you knew Yelena wouldn't be the slightest bit scared of you no matter how you stood.
“Oh yes, let me think,” Yelena mused, “hello neighbour who does not know I am Avenger. As well as my dog, can you also watch this special, one-of-a-kind land shark?” She rolled her eyes. “You think that would be a good idea?”
Natasha got to her feet, ready to chastise her sister for her tone, when the doors burst open again, a new group of heroes entering the room.
"How many ships have they sent up here?" you muttered.
"And are we gonna have to sit through another briefing?" Tony asked.
"Who even are they?"
"The Guardians of the Galaxy have arrived!" came the announcement of the one who seemed to be the leader.
"Ha! they brought a dog! see? I was not so silly bringing Jeff up here!"
"Cosmo is powerful member of team." The dog growled, for some reason in a strong Russian accent.
"Is that dog Russian?"
"Cosmo is from Soviet Union!"
"Oh wow, it's like Yelena in dog form." Natasha laughed, but her comment went unheard by her sister, because she was already crouching in front of the Russian dog, littering her with questions including, but not limited to "how did you get here?" and "can I give you head scratches?"
Before you knew it, Jeff had approached the dog too and the rest of the Guardians were groaning at the lack of appreciation for the rest of the team.
Cosmo swung around to face Jeff, her stance changing to crouched legs, raised hackles, and a motionless tail. "Identify yourself, shark," she growled.
Jeff, meanwhile, dropped his back legs to sit on the floor, his tail sweeping the area around him while his tongue lolled out his mouth. "Mrrrr."
Cosmo paused. Her tail raised ever so slightly as she cocked her head to the side. "говорить по-русски?" (speak Russian?)
"Mrrrr."
You started blankly at the two. Jeff was speaking Russian; you know because you could translate it from land shark…but not from Russian back to English. Natasha and Yelena, however, expressed a different sentiment. They both looked in shock at your land shark, before turning to each other, then finally settling on you.
"You never said he spoke Russian?" Natasha questioned.
Your cheeks flushed at the thought of the confession you would now have to make. "He doesn't usually speak it," you said, your voice trailing into a murmur by the end, "he just…translates it."
"Jeff, Вы понимаете меня?" (do you understand me?)
"mrr"
"He says yes," you and Cosmo translated at the same time. He'd said it in Russian again, but you could translate that much at least.
"He's been helping me learn," you told Nat sheepishly, "you're more romantic in your native language, when you think I don't understand, and I'm about to marry into a Russian family so I didn't want to rely solely on Jeff to translate."
Natasha froze, her mind returning to the nights she'd spent in bed with you, while Jeff was curled asleep in the corner. She thought of all her sleepy ramblings to you in Russian and how Jeff would purr and you'd cuddle closer. She'd assumed it was a coincidence, and that Jeff was just sighing in his sleep. But now she knew, it was her turn to blush.
"Ah Natasha, Natasha, what have you been saying?" Yelena laughed in a fake scolding. Then the blonde left you to it, much preferring to talk with Jeff and Cosmo as they played.
"You could have asked me," your fiancée said softly, "I'd help you learn."
"I know you would, my love, but that's not the point of a secret, is it? Besides, your mother has been helping when I call her. And Yelena-"
"Yelena?!"
The younger Widow looked over again and shrugged at Natasha's open mouthed stare, accompanying it with a 'what can I say?' kind of smirk.
"It was supposed to be a surprise," you reasoned and she smiled at you, taking your hand in hers before the team were called to focus and actually do the mission you were there for.
"We still don't know what we're doing about Jeff," Natasha called out, "is the ship safe to leave him here on his own?"
Carol grimaced. Jeff would be safe on the ship, yes, but was the ship safe from Jeff? She knew what the land shark could do when left unattended, and she also knew what Goose tends to do when she's on missions.
Before she could express those concerns though, she was saved by Cosmo speaking up. "I will take care of shark. We have lots of people. Not all necessary."
Jeff purred lowly, completely unaware of the relieved sighs released by everyone in the room.
"Good dog, Cosmo," the raccoon praised.
You paused, wondering how all the animals on their team spoke English, and whether they could teach Jeff, before you added your own advice, "give him plenty of food; he gets hungry quickly."
As if on cue, Jeff's stomach grumbled as you ran to join the others. "Be good, Jeff!"
Tumblr media
The shuttles launched from the base and carried the heroes onto their battlefield, leaving Cosmo and Jeff in the great hall on their own.
"Mrrrr," Jeff whined
"да (yes), they will be back."
"Mrrrr."
Cosmo watched on as the land shark drooped. His head bowed first, then his whole body slumped until his face rested on the floor, buried mournfully between his hands.
The space dog reached out and hovered a paw over Jeff, unsure how to comfort him through this sudden onset of sadness. But then she remembered your advice.
"We can go to kitchen?" Cosmo offered.
Jeff perked up instantly. Before the word 'kitchen' was even finished, the land shark was back on his feet, hopping around for Cosmo to lead the way.
Cosmo wagged her tail with the success, then tilted her nose in a 'follow me' motion. Dog and land shark snuck through the ship, until they burst a door open to find the treasure they both sought. The delicious aroma of various foods – along with hints of the previous cooked meal – hit both of them with force, thanks to their heightened senses of smell.
Though they had met just moments before, the two animals knew instantly what they had to do. Working together was not a problem when food was on the line.
Jeff balanced on Cosmo's head for extra height, and used his flexible digits to pull the cupboards open.
"I take over now."
Jeff hopped off and watched with a salivating mouth as Cosmo used telekinesis to float snacks and meats from the high shelves down to the ground. Once the feast was laid, both animals nodded, showing appreciation to the other for successful teamwork, before diving straight into the food.
Tumblr media
You returned from the mission exhausted; it had been a long fight, but a successful one in the end, with nobody coming back with anything worse than a few scrapes and bruises.
As the group emerged from the shuttle, chatter soon began to fill the previously silent hall and echoed around the station.
Natasha noticed it before you did.
"Why was it so silent?" The conversations stopped; the group kept their eyes on Natasha's outstretched arms, and listened for the scuffles and purrs that one might expect when a land shark and dog are left alone. They heard nothing.
"Jeff?" the Avengers called.
"Cosmo?" the Guardians followed.
There was no reply, so you soon went searching. The group raided and checked every room and corner of the ship until-
"Found them!"
Steve's voice led you all towards him, beside the kitchen door. You should have guessed.
You weren't sure what to say when you saw inside. Jeff was curled up happily on the floor, a look of contentment on his sleeping face, while Cosmo slept beside him, using his body as a pillow to rest her head.
Your immediate reaction was to coo at the scene (and some of the others did) but your eyes were next drawn to the litter of wrappers and packets and gnawed bones that scattered the area around them.
"I don't think they left us a single post-mission snack."
"Your shark is a bad influence on our dog!"
"How do we know your dog isn't the bad influence?"
"Well, let's not kid ourselves here-"
A low growl interrupted the argument as Cosmo sprang to her feet, instantly ready to defend the ship, until she noticed who the 'intruders' were.
"Did you both eat all the food?"
Cosmo's mood sank the moment those words were spoken. Though she had been excited to see the group return, her ears soon folded back, and her head bowed to look at the ground, only occasionally flicking her eyes up to see you all.
"Is Cosmo bad dog?" she asked, her voice so full of sadness that nobody could find it in themselves to agree.
"No, you are хорошая собака (good dog), Cosmo." Yelena stepped in. "You took care of Jeff and kept him happy! That is what we asked."
Cosmo preened, her mood changed immediately by the praise. Since the others had yet to agree, the space dog designated Yelena as her safe spot, moving to sit between the Widow's legs and resting her head against Yelena's knee. She hummed again when Yelena started to scratch around her ears.
"You come visit me if you come to Earth, okay? You have home at my place any time."
"The whole team, or-?"
"Just the dog."

roman roy x reader [blurb]
wordcount: 809
warnings: cuss words, english is not my first language and this is not edited; also, not my pictures. first time writing after a long time and first time writing roman as well, so perhaps he’s a little ooc ? i’m also a huge taylor swift fan and this was written based on “welcome to new york”
Tumblr media
The sun was setting down the horizon, painting the sky different shades of blue, orange, and some specs of pink, when the private jet landed from its journey all the way from London to the outskirts of New York City. The stars were going to appear soon; one could see the shining waning crescent moon up there.
There was a company car already waiting for her, which she would’ve thought had been sent by her dad were it not for the man leaning funny against the back door while looking down at his phone. She recognised him too well for her own good even after a couple of years without seeing each other. How could she not when she had spent her whole childhood running around his house, getting yelled at by Logan for making a mess, chastised by her father for making her godfather mad; having sleepovers with his sister that turned out to be sleepovers with him, sharing summer vacations by the side of the pool until Kendall and Connor taught her how to swim.
The click of her high heels walking down the stairs of the jet seemed to have alerted him of her presence. His eyes went quickly up and down her figure, finally setting on her face. She looked exactly the same yet entirely different at the same time.
“If it isn't (Y/N) Vernon in the flesh, ladies and gents,” he screamed, bringing both of his arms to his chest and doing some sort of imitation of a reverence. “Did you take the Queen’s place up there in little England? Took control of Buckingham Palace?”
“I was about to, actually”, she said with a small smile on her face and shiny, bright eyes she would never admit were for seeing him after so long, “but then I saw the mess you’ve all gotten yourself into”.
“Look at you, miss ‘I-sound-all-poshy’, you got an accent”.
“No, I don’t,” (Y/N) protested, scrunching up her face.
“Oh, you so totally do”.
“Shut up, Roman,” finally acknowledging him.
“It’s not my fault you sold yourself to the fucking brits, darling,” he said, replicating a butchered british accent of the pet name, while she started walking towards the other side of the vehicle where the chauffeur held the door open for her.
Once they were both inside the car, on their way to Logan’s apartment — her father had told her they would be waiting for her there for some “welcome home” lame party —, (Y/N) took off her heels, then let her head fall against the window to look at the city she had left more than half a decade ago.
When they started to approach the city centre, the sky had turned a deep tone of blue, stars barely visible because of the light pollution now. Her eyes were beginning to feel heavy the moment she heard him speak.
“You know, you should probably sleep a little before you encounter the sharks again after so long”. The sentence was whispered, almost as if he were afraid she’d already fallen asleep.
“I’m gonna miss the view.”
Roman snorted at her comment, “What view are you talking about? Tall buildings and, and fucking blinding lights?”
“Maybe I missed the blinding lights.”
“Oh yeah and fucking traffic too.”
“There’s traffic in London too, you know”.
“Of course I know that, you idiot, there’s also fucking blinding lights everywhere in London too, don’t you know that?”
(Y/N) turned her head to face him. She smiled, the expression on her face full of tiredness from the trip. Roman noticed it right away.
“Get some sleep, you baby,” he insisted. “New York is not gonna disappear just because you rest for two fucking minutes”.
The car ride fell silent then. It was nice. It was home. It was undisturbed peace, one they both knew wouldn’t last long; they’d soon be sucked back into the unfiltered chaos it was Waystar and its twisted insides.
Just before she could fall asleep, (Y/N) managed to croak a question. “Doesn’t it drive you crazy?”.
“What? My family? Yeah, they fucking do”.
She shook her head softly. “Not your family, silly, the city. New York”. (Y/N) looked at him with hooded eyes, Roman had his eyebrows drawn together.
“Yeah, I - I guess. But now,” he answered with his eyes set on hers only, “now I wouldn’t change anything.”
“Me neither.” She managed to reply with a content smile through the sleepiness.
“Stop fighting the sleep or you’re gonna keep asking random questions, you weirdo.”
When she didn’t answer, he knew she’d finally taken his advice. Shrugging off his dark, woolen coat, Roman placed it on top of her upper body in an attempt to keep her from getting too cold, perhaps even to protect her against the crumbling ruins of the world outside.

Teach Me To Love Hate You (Race x Fem Jet OC, enemies to lovers)
Tumblr media
Here I am to request again! (*insert evil laugh*) So Race is doing so bad in school that he has to get a tutor. The problem is he gets stuck with this posh Jet girl and they absolutely hate each other. Tutoring is a mess. But one night when Race goes out to play cards against the Jets he’s playing against her, but she’s all dressed up! Turns out she’s a card shark, and wins by flirting with her opponent to get in their head. Her strategy works, and by the end of the night they're practically dating.
Davey’s POV
“Another F, Mr. Higgins.”
Our math teacher, Mr. Johnson, hands the man sitting in front of me his test. No surprise that Race failed considering he spends all his time goofing off. I’ll admit since I’ve met Jack and his gang I myself have relaxed a bit but not too much to have my perfect grades drop.
“Very impressive, Mr. Jacobs.”
I’m handed my own test, which I passed with flying colors. The bell rings and signals for us to head home.
“Go ahead, Davey,” Race groans. Rub your perfect score in my face. I hate school!”
I gather my things and sling my bag over my shoulder. “I know book smarts aren’t your thing. Um, have you maybe considered being tutored?”
Race huffs and pulls out his cigar to stick in his mouth. “No way! I’ll keep my own perfect score of failing before I team up with one-a those bookworms-”
“Well that’s too bad, Mr. Higgins.” Mr Johnson approaches us. “Your failing grades have led the school to force me to assign you a tutor. You are to stay after school every weekday until 5. You will continue this until your grades improve.” The teacher gestures to the door. “Your tutor is waiting for you in room 215.”
I can’t believe it. Neither can Race.
“Are you serious? God, outta all things…”
The flustered student gets up and struts out of the room, causing me to rush after him.
“Maybe it won’t be so bad? It’s only-”
“Dave, of course it’s gonna be bad! I’ll barely miss the card tournaments at 6!” We reach the end of the hall where room 215 is. “I’m gonna be locked up with some ugly stiff trying to teach the unteachable-!”
“You must be Anthony Higgins,” a woman’s voice speaks as the classroom door opens.
Race rolls his eyes. “Yeah, that’s- Holy Jesus!”
Amanda’s POV
This is what I get? This is what I get for keeping good grades? Being forced to tutor someone? Mrs. Smith informed me this morning that I’ve been assigned to tutor someone all because I’m one of the top students. I don’t even go to Manhattan High! I’m only here for the math class! Sadly West Side High doesn’t have any higher up math classes, so I have to commute to ‘Hattan.
I take a deep breath as I wait in the empty classroom. Just get through it one day at a time. The sooner you help him improve the sooner this headache will be over. The sound of approaching chatter alerts me to the door. Putting on a perky face, I walk over and open it. Outside I recognize Davey from math club, and the other must be the student I’m supposed to meet.
“You must be Anthony Higgins.”
The man in question rolls his eyes and turns to me. “Yeah, that’s- Holy Jesus!” His jaw drops and I swear he’s having a stroke.
Davey waves a hand in front of him. “Um, Race? You ok?”
The blonde boy nods slowly, still gaping at me. I feel my patience slipping. Ugh. I am not staying after school to be ogled!
I grip the man’s shirt and drag him inside. “Thanks for dropping him off, David. I’ve got my work cut out. See you tomorrow!”
“Bye, Amanda!” The kind Jacobs man waves and shuts the door.
Race is still quiet. I steer him to a chair and push him down to sit. “Listen up, Higgins. We both don’t wanna be here. So let me make this perfectly clear: pay attention and smarten up!”
Higgins shakes himself awake and gets a lopsided grin. “Well hello, doll. Y’know friends call me Race-”
“I’m not your friend. I’m your tutor.”
My firm tone turns Race’s grin to a scowl. “Don’t remind me. I don’t think I’ve met you. I’dve remembered your lovely attitude.”
I stiffly take out some worksheets and slap them on the desk. “You’ve got some nerve, Higgins. I’m from West Side High.”
He snickers. “Ah, one-a Lorton’s gals. That’s where the attitude comes from!”
I roll my eyes. “Riff’s just a good friend. That also means that you shouldn’t try anything, understand? Just do these worksheets and we can be done for today. My whole life doesn’t revolve around school, and unlike you I actually have plans that don’t involve goofing off.”
“Well,” Race says cockily. “Since neither of us wanna suffer through this, whaddya say you lets me go early?”
That little-! That’s it. No more playing nice. I stiffly walk over to the door and lock it. It’s against school policy but I don’t care at this point. This cheeky moron is not gonna pin me for some softie!
“Hey! Why’d you-?”
I steer Race back into his seat with a firm hold. “Worksheets. Now! Before I really give you something to stress over!”
He’s shaken but still tries to keep confident. “Like what? The heartthrob you’s give’n me?”
“Like a black eye, dumbass! Now get to work!”
Race’s POV
God must have a sense-a humor ‘cause that tutor session felt like it took fifty years! It don’t help that my tutor is a stuck-up goody-goody. Jeez, for a moment I thought she was cute. I didn’t even get her name.
“Ey, Racer. Ya with us?” Jack asks.
“Um- Yeah. Just think’n,” I mudda as we enter the Jets’ hideout.
“You? Thinking?” Albert laughs. “Never thought I’d see the day! What’s got you so worked up?”
“He has to be tutored now,” Davey explains from behind.
I roll my eyes. “Gee, thanks Davey! Why not announce my failure to the whole woild, why dontcha?”
“Don’t feel too bad, Race,” Crutchy tries to comfort me. “It took me a while to understand math too.”
“What I don’t get is how are ya so bad at math when ya count cards like a madman?” Spot grunts. “You’s bedda not get us kicked out.”
This week’s card tournament is be’n held in the West Side. I ain’t too noivous ‘cause Riff’s always too busy boast’n ‘bout his new construction job to play the game. That and Baby John’s poker face ain’t worth dirt. I can see through him like glass. So far the turn up looks pretty bland. Maybe folks is get’n tired-a losing? Where’s the competition?
“Evening gents,” Riff greets us as we gather ‘round the table. “We’s just wait’n on a few more players, then we’ll start.”
“Is Bernardo coming?” Davey asks.
The Jet leader smirks. “Wouldn't you wanna know, Mouth? Expecting Liliana to show?”
David blushes and looks away. Sure, he gets a pretty goil tonight. Of all people I expected Davey Jacobs to be the last guy to find a date.
“What about Mouthpiece?” I ask. “Can’t a guy see his own brodda?”
Riff shakes his head. “Bernardo called to say he can’t make it either. Only Baby John and Amanda are left to show.”
“Besides, one Higgins is enough to handle,” Jack groans. “We don’t need the matching pair.”
I’d hoid of Baby John before but the odda name ain’t familiar. With my luck it’ll be some ditzy dame who don’t know a spade from a shovel-
“Well well, hello again, mister Higgins.”
Amanda’s POV
“Are you kidding me?” I gape as I peer through the window.
“What’s wrong?” Baby John asks from behind.
“Race is here, that’s what! That ding-dong plays cards here?”
“Actually he ain’t no ding-dong,” Baby John points out. “Race is one-a the best players in New York.”
I snort. “If he’s so smart, why do I gotta be forced to teach him basic algebra?” Perhaps that’s a question no one can answer. “Don’t matter. He’ll bend either way.”
“Gonna lay on the shark charm?” John questions with an arched brow.
“Ya bet.” I don’t always play by the rules. My secret is that after school I play tournaments as a card shark by flirting with players. Some frown at it but I’m proud of my acting skills. Plus any little money I can make goes towards helping my parents.
Baby John goes ahead and sits next to Riff at the table while I stand behind Race.
“Well well, hello again, mister Higgins.”
The man’s head jerks up and he spins around to look at me with surprised eyes. It’s as if he can’t decide that I’m real. He looks between me and Riff with a stunned expression.
“Amanda, I see you know Race,” the Jet assumes.
My lips press into a firm line. “Yeah. Through tutoring. Now since we’s not at school can we actually have fun and play some cards?”
The oddas just shrug and begin to assemble the deck, while Race looks at me like he just won the lottery.
“Amanda, is it? Golly, I’ve never pinned you for a card gal!”
“There’s many things you’d be surprised by,” I say in a sultry voice. My suave charm automatically draws Race in and I see him starting to lose his senses.
“Th- That’s some getup you’ve got on, sweetheart,” he mumbles.
His compliment is refreshing. Usually guys just eat my appearance right up with no thought-a be’n nice. Tonight’s outfit is a polka dot cocktail dress with a sweetheart neckline paired with simple red heels. I may be a card shark but I still got my dignity.
“Thank you,” I say whole-heartedly, but then regain my attitude. “I was starting to think ya couldn’t use that mouth for anything odda than back-sassing. Ready to lose?”
Race stares for a second then turns back to start gathering his delt hand. I decide to sit next to him for a better shot of distracting him. If I can get the oh-so-great Racetrack Higgins to falter at cards then I’ll have really set a record. Tonight’s game is Hearts and fortunately my hand is halfway decent. Lotta high cards plus the queen-a spades. Just enough to turn the tables and give everyone 26 points.
“You’ve been taking a lotta hearts,” Race says after a while, then says in a lower tone: “Wanna bet that you’d steal mine as well?”
Ha! He’s trying to play a card shark at her own game! This is too funny.
I pull on my best flirting smile and bat my eyelashes. “You tell me, handsome.”
That did it. Race’s face goes beet red and he goes back to staring at his cards. A few more hands go by and I continue to keep the lead. Luckily the oddas are too consumed by conversation to notice, all except Race. But for good measure to keep him distracted I slide my leg over to brush against his. This gets him shaking and all but hot and bothered. It’s working, but then why does a part-a me feel guilty? It ain’t a question that Race is a jerk sometimes but he’s still kinda handsome- No. I have a job to do. There's no holding back.
“Last hand. Who’s got the queen?” Davey asks as we all turn in our final card.
My smirk outshines all their oblivious faces. “I do!”
Jack chuckles. “You lose, Amanda.”
“Actually…” I fan out all the hearts I’ve collected. “I win!”
Everyone takes a double-take and groans. Another victory!
“Alright, you know the rules,” Riff grunts. “Pay up.”
The guys grudgingly take out their contribution and toss it onto the table. Maybe now I can afford to buy mom some good kitchen knives.
“Good job, Amanda.” Leave it to Crutchy to be the pro at sportsmanship. “You’re almost better than Race!”
“He’s right,” Spot agrees. “Hear that, Higgins? Ya got competition!”
The man in question has a stern look on his face. Instead-a answering he abruptly gets up and sulks down the hall to the bathroom. Sore loser. Can’t he take one defeat without holding a grudge?
“We’s gonna head back,” Jack calls. “Send Race over once he’s done.”
The ‘Hattan fellas make their way out, leaving me with Spot ‘nd the Jets. Soon enough they too walk out and leave me alone to count up my winnings. After a few moments I hear footsteps and turn to see Race fuming with what looks like anger.
“You got spunk, sweetheart,” he remarks slyly. “Not many dames can get into my head the way you do.” All of a sudden he struts forward and leans me back to lay against the table. “Almost makes me wanna soak ya for that, but then that’d be wasting that pretty face-a yours.”
How is he so strong? Also why are his eyes suddenly quite catching-? Ugh! Get a grip, Amanda! Just take the money and go.
“You’re lucky Riff ain’t here right now,” I growl. “Oddawise you’d be talking through a mouth with no teeth for saying that.”
Race scoffs. “You batted your eyes at me, sweetheart. What’s your angle?”
“It’s part of the game! Jeez Higgins, you’re so used to card tournaments I thought you’d already know what a card shark is!”
“So instead of being one-a Bernardo’s sharks, you’re an actual shark?” Race dramatically clutches his chest. “That hurts. That hurts deep, sweetheart.”
I hiss in frustration. “Stop calling me that!”
“Why? ‘Cause every odda bum ya flirt with calls you that? Just how many guys have ya swindled to give you cash?”
In a fleeting moment of anger I slap Race across the face. “I ain’t your usual lady of the night, Higgins! For your information, every cent I earn through card games goes to my folks! Unlike you I use my skills to help people instead of boasting ‘bout it like a spoiled brat!”
Race blanks for a second but is still angry. “Boasting? I ain’t the one boasting, sweetheart. I’ll admit my skills is good but it’s Jack ‘nd the oddas that boast ‘bout it!”
“Then why do you suck at math?” I jab.
“Maybe it’s the same reason why a clean-cut goil like you is a card shark,” Race replies. “I gots bedda things to do.”
“That don’t mean ya should throw your education in the trash!” I argue.
“I ain’t as smart as you, sweetheart. I know when to admit I’m no good.”
Race suddenly gets a saddened look and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t feel bad. It ain’t his fault he’s not book smart but that don’t mean he’s useless.
“You still don’t get it, Higgins. Life’s more than just academics. But you still gotta put up with the tough stuff.” I loosen up a little and put a hand on his shoulder. “If you’re willing to cooperate, I could still tutor ya.”
Race laughs. “Ha! That’s a good one, sweetheart. Going soft on me?”
That son of a-! “Alright, fine! Go and fail math for all I care!” I lean forward and shove him against the wall. “To think I actually felt sorry for you, you snarky, hot, cocky-!”
“Whoa whoa whoa!” Race’s face lights up. “Lay that on me again?”
“I was an idiot to think you’re a decent human being-! Ah!”
The blue-eyed man tilts over and plants a kiss on my lips. In my shocked state I don’t know whether to pound him or kiss him back. The gesture melts away my anger in pure ecstasy. God, what’s this guy doing to me?!
“You think I’m hot, sweetheart?” Race gets a cheeky smile. “Can’t say I ain’t flattered. You’s a scrumptious catch too.”
My face twitches as I try to form a rebuttal. “I- I… I-!”
“Well, whaddya know! I got the card shark speechless!” Race softly places his own hand on my shoulder. “I say we’d make a great pair, hm? Before we kill each odda, whaddya say to a milkshake at Doc’s?”
He’s got me hook, line, and sinker. As a card shark I’m not supposed to fall for anyone I play- where did I go wrong? Race is a pain! Yet still kinda cute… Ugh! Why does luv gotta be so complicated?!
“I- I ain’t good with luv, Race,” I mutter. “The only hearts I’ve been dealt with are cards. I ain’t a normal date.”
No matter how hard I wanna look away, Race’s eyes still capture me in a helpless trance. I’ve been disassembled from a cunning card shark into a pathetic mess. All I can do is stare as the man runs a hand softly across my cheek and looks down at me with kind eyes; a completely opposite demeanor than 10 minutes ago.
“I don’t want a normal date, Amanda. A normal date picks at my habits and says I gots a gambling problem.” Race bumps his nose on mine. “You wouldn’t say that, wouldya?”
My breath hitches. “No, you- you’re amazing at cards. Anybody who says oddawise is a joker.”
Now Race’s face is mere inches from mine. “Still up for a date?”
A sassy grin spreads on my lips. “Think ya can handle me, Higgins? I am still your tutor, after all.”
He rolls his eyes. “Just lemme kiss you, ya mouthy tutor.”
And I do. Over and over and over, Race kisses up and down. All talk-a math and school drips away and I give in to this new-found feeling.
“Never thought I’d fall for a bookworm,” Race mumbles between kisses.
I lightly smack his shoulder. “Remember this ‘bookworm’ just schooled you in Hearts, Higgins. You lost, remember?”
Race chuckles. “Yeah. Lost my own heart to you too, sweetheart.”
Tonight really was a successful game after all.
