shake it loose together
MacksDramaticShenanigans
Steve keeps his voice quiet enough as he sings now, not wanting to disturb the masses just one room over, but it’s still loud enough for him to get a little lost in it. He matches the strokes of his sponge with the tune he’s singing and even starts to wiggle his hips along. It’s hard not to want to dance to this one — Bennie and the Jets, because it came on the radio in the car while he was making his rounds to pick up the kids, and it’s been stuck in his head ever since.
Most of the dishes are clean now, so all that’s left is the silverware. The casserole dish was the last of the major pieces. Steve’s just finishing rinsing it, letting the excess water sluice off the sides before he sets it on the kitchen island with the other plates waiting to be dried.
In the process of turning, two things happen at once:
1. Steve squeezes his eyes shut and tips his head back as he belts out the chorus, “She’s got electric boots, a mohair suit, you know I read it in a magazine, oh. B-b-b-bennie and the jets!”
2. His eyes fly back open to land right on Eddie. where he stands in the doorway — no, leans in the doorway, like he’s been there a while, like he’s gotten comfortable.

Heyo! Are you a fan of the criminally underrated game Jet Set Radio? Do you wanna read some expanded fan material? Well I got just the thing! I'm currently working on my fan novel: "Stories From Tokyo-To"!
Excerpt from Chapter 1: Beat It!
...Letting out a sigh, the only thing that came out of my mouth at that moment was a defeated "Damn."
I've encountered the law before. Usually, a good lie, a tragic story with some tears, and a swift getaway solve my issues. But not with this sadist. The dude knows. Every scheme, any lie, all of my possible aliases. It's scary. So all I can pray for is that somehow, along the way, he slips up.
Ever so slowly, I start creeping away from Onishima. Having no other option, I try smooth-talking with the guy. "Oh! Sergeant Onishima! Is that you? You looked so tall, I hardly recognized you! Have you been hitting the gym? Maybe you're wearing platform boots?"
"Shut your trap!" his voice echoed throughout the warehouse. He wasn't having it. Better yet, seeing me back up made him more than happy to take off his gun's safety. "Do you know how long I've waited for this moment? I finally get a chance to slap the cuffs on the damn shitass who's been causing me months of headaches." The shady fuck laughed a bit. "I knew it was you who gift-wrapped the front of my house last Christmas!"
"I was short on cash that year!"
"You made the letter saying I was cast in my favorite show, 'Power Office Girls'!"
"Aw, man... you didn't get the part of 'Handsome Officer 1'? But you were so happy that day."
"And most heinous of all... you put Vaseline on my squad car handles!"
"Really? That was the worst?"
"I WAS LATE FOR A WEEK! I'VE NEVER BEEN LATE, NOT ONE DAY ON THE FORCE!"
"I'm sure your days must be real busy if eating curry rice in your car and harassing me is the only thing on your schedule."
"All that doesn't matter now. I have you right where I want you. Criminal trespassing, vandalism, and hell maybe I'll throw in theft! These spray cans are most likely stolen." He shrugged and leaned back as if his next point was some sort of stupid revelation. "But hey, it's your life, right? I'm just the swift hand of authority here to take you in. Besides, you're no better than all the other filth in the streets." Onishima tightened the grip of both of his hands. "And we both know you ain't talkin' yourself outta this."
"Officer, I just have one question..."
"And what's that?"
"How fast can you run?"...
If something along those lines sounds interesting, be sure to give all available chapters on either Wattpad or AO3!
Thank you so much for reading and keep on tagging those walls! (Special thanks to @skronklpus for the KICKASS ART!)

I don't really want to reblog your post saying this because I feel like that could be annoying but I've gotten a lot into gacha games (specifically Bang Dream, Project Sekai, D4DJ, Blue Archive, and now Zenless Zone Zero, in that order) as a 25 year old plural trans failgirl and despite enjoying them I know they are bad for me and it is my policy to not recommend them
and basically every time I find myself posting gushing over their stories or whatever I feel the need to asterisk myself with "this is a gacha game so I'm not really recommending you check it out". And like, I don't know, I feel like I should say it and it's necessary but it also feels a little tedious I guess. Like, everyone who I follow and who follows me knows this already so aah. But also then again I thought I already knew that the psychological manipulation and gambling was bad and etc and I still ended up getting super OCD over it and losing a lot of time and money to them and I would not wish this condition on anyone else. Which I guess is a more than good enough reason to continue the asterisking even if it's tedious in the same way it's tedious to say "content warning" or "spoilers for _____" or tag anything bothersome so people can filter it and sometimes you might forget to but you gotta do it anyway.
Anyway I uh. I do have like fifteen years of game playing experience prior to the gacha games where I played no gacha games. So if that counts for anything my favorite games of all time (and these are all non gacha singleplayer games) range from like,
Psychonauts (1 and 2), Milk Inside a Bag of Milk, Subahibi, killer7, Night in the Woods, VA-11 HALL-A, Tsui Yuri ~Okaa-san ni wa Naisho da yo~ (the incest yuri visual novel), Shadow the Hedgehog, if found..., Kindred Spirits on the Roof, Dishonored, Gunpoint, Jet Set Radio Future, and most importantly Senran Kagura (but not the gacha one), and many others but I'll just stop typing them now
Also I recently played the System Shock remake, which is kino and beautiful
Anyway I hope this confession is allowed. I really like your posts and your ask box has a very confessional vibe to me sometimes so I still feel compelled to it. Um, yeah. I guess, play those games. And not necessarily any gacha games. (Do that at your own risk, but also probably, really, seriously don't)
I've been trying to write a more formal essay on how gacha games can have good things in them but unfortunately still suck but ironically it hasn't yet come together because I've been distracted playing the gacha games. Hopefully I figure out that problem... Maybe with drugs or something (please)
Yeah, I don't think they are entirely bad (I still look at and reblog horny pictures from some of them often) but I wouldn't play one of those again even with full confidence that I won't fall into a gambling addiction because even putting morality and financial risk aside the very fact that they are trying to push players into it ends up worsening the rest of the game design.
Games these days (not even exclusively gacha) are sometimes deliberately made more tedious and inconvenient just for the sake of selling a solution to these invented problems. Paying to remove some arbitrary limitation or to skip a grind, for example.
The controversy around the new Star Wars Battlefront 2 contrasted with the original game highlights this very clearly. Things that used to just be a part of the game included by default are now things you have to either gamble for or play for an unreasonable amount of time to unlock. It really did not have to be that way, as demonstrated by the original game.
I think if you have been playing them and noticed all the issues it might be worth it to ask yourself if you're actually enjoying yourself on the net. Not just if the games have something in them that's worthwhile but if they are actually a fun way to pass your time. Is it play, or is it a chore you put up with to avoid falling behind or missing out on the things you do like? Would you be missing on much if you engaged with the story through youtube videos instead of playing the game yourself?
And if you do end up deciding you could be having more fun with something else, it's not like there's a shortage of other games, especially if you look into older games. Many of these are free or easy to emulate.
Looking at your list I think we have different tastes but if you enjoyed things like System Shock and Dishonored then you could maybe look into the first Deus Ex, Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, or Arx Fatalis.
(Also this is a confessional now? I guess it gives people an excuse to picture me dressed up as one of those ero anime nuns even as I maximize blasphemy and apostasy.)

Instead of fully being an annoying boomer loser who isn't happy about the new things, I'll make some sort of a masterpost about cool JSR and JSRF information sources and other neat thingies. Probably will be updated if i find anything else worth including.
So, first of all:
•Official websites for JSR and JSRF. JSRF website has an English version, but it's barely archived and doesn't have much information on it anyway. JSR one is really awesome though, a lot of cool tidbits, character bios(they include one new trivia for some characters ) and game tips!!
•A whole bunch of guidebooks, meaning JSR Perfect Guide, JSRF Perfect Guidebook and the JGR Sybex's Official Strategies & Secrets . Only one of them is in English, but they're still useful for maps and Graffiti Soul collecting. If you can read these then even better lol. Keep in mind, that the JSR Perfect Guide only covers the original Japanese release, which is different from the later one's.
• Sexy as hell manuals for JGR, De La JSR, JSR for GBA and JSRF. Always good to know about these.
•The JSR and JSRF articles on Sega Retro. You probably noticed me linking them for the manuals and whatnot. If you want to find out stuff about these games, this is second best source for it (first one is playing the games lol). But it has some weird statements like saying that Beat is the leader of the GGs, even though it doesn't make any logical sense, and claiming that JSRF is a sequel game, but then also saying that it's not in the actual JSRF article.
It's probably the obvious thing that could've been noted, so now to less obvious one's.
• Jet Set Radio Wiki. Okay, this website had a bad reputation and all and was filled with creepy comments and lies, now it's all good. I swear. New admin didn't just remove all the misinformation, but also regularly writes new articles! Like how we have Ollie King related pages there now(while it's a different game, making a separate wiki for it would be kind of an overkill so it's there). Anyways yeah, it's good now. But still always check the sources! It's good to do no matter where you are.
While these little things suck, they're completely overshadowed by the sheer amount of fucking information included. Scans, art, documentation of which magazine had articles regarding the games and on which page AND EVERYTHING IS WITH SOURCES AND IMAGES. This is really strong and you'll be there for hours just staring in wonder at all this compiled info.
• JSR Archives. This is a community dedicated for archiving and categorising all the stuff JSR related. One of their members was the one who posted the Sybex guide on the internet.(whoahaaa they got a tumblr FOLLOW THEM!!)
• TCRF article on JGR. While this article wasn't updated in quite some time and is missing a whole bunch of stuff (like the leaked prototypes), it's still a very nice read.
• A whole bunch of prototypes. I included only those i consider noteworthy, if you wanna get the other's, they're there as well.
• JSRF Inside. A certified hood classic if we're talking about JSRF modding.
• Best source for JSRF speedrunning information.
• An extremely really detailed playthrough/guide of JSR. Includes cool trivia like regional differences and instructions for character unlocking.
• Less detailed, but still very useful video guide for unlocking all of the secret JSRF characters.
• Playlist of JSR/JSRF music, and anything related to them, like different remixes and stuff. Read the description for more details. It also has a link to a text document containing a lot of cool trivia about the artist featured in the games and other JSR related media.
• Video with all the dialogue and special interactions in JSRF.
• Kind of a joke entry, but also Hideki Naganuma's twitter account is worth checking out. Not his new tweets, but really old one's. In the past he was more involved with the fanbase and shared some neat trivia. Not related to him but one of the Castle Logical ppl confirmed that the lyrics in Mischievous Boy say "chameleon machine" and it fucks me up so much.
• This goofy ass official IGN guide for JSR. Why i didn't put it with the rest of the official guides? Well, the reason is that the writer for this thing, Aki, is a real silly goose and they decided to spice up some of the character descriptions. While these are probably based on some legitimate information, like Beat being from Fukuoka(which was confirmed by a Beat TUBBZ figurine of all things), you can't trust these due to its silliness. Like they gave DJ K a backstory, which just ruins his whole deal AND contradicts the game manual. They also consistently get the names for locations wrong. As a game guide it's pretty good?? You can use it. Just don't go around calling Gum a "brownface girl" after reading it.
That's everything i can remember so far, hope this helps.

was cool to get SOME XBOX OG games streamed this year but at a cost of janky emulator issues especially on the multigame stream and the vanishing characters on Jet Set Radio Future. still had a blast though and as time goes on seems like CXBX and XEMU are improving slowly. anyways about JSRF, I love the game and all especially for the aesthetics but I forgot how much platforming was involved in it and prob the most infuriating boss fight ever (which because I fumbled so much didn’t get archived on stream so I have to go back to just record separately..) so I’m gonna trim off big chunks of me falling a lot and timestamp sections to make the plays more viewable. def gonna be recording scenery footage for *future* NoPlays + videomixes. and for the people that complained about me sometimes swapping out the BGM for my XBOX dancemix playlist (which I did mostly to avoid the randomized copyright songs that play on JSRF) you can watch endless other Jet Set longplays instead 🤡

Towards the end of last year, Sega announced that it would be delving into its enviable archives to revive some of its older arcade,16 and 32-bit titles. Fans could scarcely believe it; Shinobi, Streets of Rage, Golden Axe, Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio will all see new releases over the next few years or so.
During the rather short montage, a brief glimpse of each game was shown, with some of the titles looking familiar in appearance to previous entries (Crazy Taxi), while others looked to be embarking on a complete departure from what fans are used to stylistically, with Streets of Rage and Golden Axe seemingly going the 3D route.
While there are more questions than answers at this early stage, it was still refreshing to see the genuine excitement and intrigue from Sega fans who, in recent years, have largely been fed scraps when it comes to new iterations of their favourite legacy IPs.
As a childhood Sega fan myself, and while I did find the reveals pleasing, after the initial teaser that dropped earlier that week, I was hoping for some news on two of Sega's older and much-loved classics from the mid-'80s - Out Run and the main subject of this piece, Fantasy Zone.
So, what exactly is the situation with Sega's unique and somewhat niche shmup? Well, after a lengthy hiatus, Opa-Opa's last mainline outing was in what is regarded by fans as the series' best title, Fantasy Zone II DX (also known as Fantasy Zone II: The Tears of Opa-Opa), which was included in the Sega Ages 2500 Series Vol. 33: Fantasy Zone Complete Collection.
youtube
The game's storied development process has been well documented. The original Fantasy Zone II never came to arcades, but was instead exclusive to the Master System home console – and was, therefore, something of a step backwards in purely technical terms (it also made it to arcades, but running on Sega's System E board, which is based on the Master System).
In 2008, Sega worked with M2 to remaster the game, creating an updated version for the System 16 arcade standard, which the original Fantasy Zone ran on. M2's founder and CEO, Naoki Horii, helped fund the project from his own personal budget, claiming that the money he invested was "about the cost of a new car".
Boosted by a RAM upgrade, the System 16B board was given extra horsepower that allowed the development team to introduce complex backdrops, more frames of animation for the game's protagonist and a variety of bosses, each ever so creatively designed, with multiple independent moving parts. M2 dubbed the new board System 16C, due to the aforementioned memory increase to 256 KB. Sega even produced working arcade boards in limited numbers.
In 2014, the game was ported to the 3DS as part of Sega's 3D Classics series under the title 3D Fantasy Zone II W, where it was refined further, offering a 16:9 screen, autostereoscopic 3D, customisable gameplay tweaks to make the game more accessible, unlockable features and the wonderfully addictive score chaser mode, Link Loop Land. The first Fantasy Zone would get the 3D treatment in 2015.
In 2020, the 1987 original was ported to the Switch as part of M2's Sega Ages range, along with a 'Upa-Upa Mode' which removes the game's weapons and upgrade shop. In 2022, M2 was at it again, creating a Sega Mega Drive / Genesis port of the original game for the Sega Mega Drive Mini 2, which includes a Super Easy mode.
Tumblr media
So, what can fans hope for in the future? Well, as you've perhaps gleaned from the above history lesson, it seems that our faith lies with our supremely talented friends over at M2. Not only is the team clearly a big supporter of the series, it has, during the past few years, overseen arcade-perfect home ports of shmup classics such as Battle Garegga, Fire Shark, Ketsui and the recently released Dodonpachi Dai-Oou-Jou.
As well as porting duties, the team have also been working on new games in the Aleste series, which began with the sublime GG Aleste 3 release, the arcade-only (so far) SenXin Aleste and the in-progress, but much anticipated Aleste Branch. M2 certainly has a penchant for reviving forgotten shmup franchises.
Having Fantasy Zone super player Kazuki Kubota as part of the M2 staff is another positive sign; "K-two" was involved with the Fantasy Zone II remake and also co-directed the aforementioned Mega Drive Mini port of the original Fantasy Zone.
Although these are all indications that something Fantasy Zone-related might be in M2's collective subconscious, we do need to keep in mind that the team is relatively small, and there are other 'in flight' projects; as mentioned earlier, Aleste Branch is still in development, and there are plans to port SenXin Aleste to home consoles, too.
While I'm very excited about both of the Aleste titles and pretty much anything the studio does, there is a selfish part of me that secretly hopes for a file on M2's OneDrive titled "Fantasy Zone III" full of ideas and plans for the next game in one of my favourite video game franchises.
