Painted Nails
Spencer x Female Reader
Big thankies sent to @zhuzhubii and @clean-bands-dirty-stories for beta reading this!!! Go check them out! This also fulfills my request from @thatsonezesty13 for more sub Spencer!! I have more coming for him as well, stay tuned.
Summary: Spencer’s dom paints his nails for date night and she goes crazy at the sight of them.
A/N: Y’all asked for it!!! This is the one out of three fics people voted to come first. Next up is mismatched then car wash to round out the three.
Warnings: femdom, bruising, marking, leg spreader bar, spitting, begging, praise kink, slight choking, slight edging, cream pie, blanket consent (in the beginning)
Masterlist Word count: 3.5k
The bottle of deep plum colored nail polish sat open on my white vanity, though I wasn’t using it for myself. Spencer’s hand sat delicately in my palm as I painted each nail perfectly, getting him ready for date night. He patiently sat naked on my fluffy white stool as I alternated each finger while standing over him in a black lace lingerie set and stilettos. He was always so good for me, never daring to break any rule that I set for him; he lived to please me. As I finished his last nail I set each palm to sit carefully on the vanity with his fingers spread apart.
“Don’t move sweet boy” I whispered into his ear as I went to go pick out his outfit for the evening. Our walk in closet was mostly filled with my fancier clothes, but to the left side hung Spencer’s nicer cardigans and button ups. My plan was to drive him crazy by wearing a violet colored dress as it was his favorite color, so I decided to go with a similarly colored button up and black cardigan. Moving to his dresser on the other side of the room I searched through the neatly folded clothes to find perfect slacks, socks, and a tie to all match.
He hadn’t moved an inch from where I placed him, being the best sub he could possibly be. I waltzed back over to him with the clothes in my arms ready to dress him and he surrendered his body to me, letting me slip his arms through his shirt and slowly button it up. Draping the tie over his shoulders I expertly knotted the fabric into a perfect half Windsor knot. I always did this every time he wore one, I loved taking care of my sweet boy.
“Thank you m’lady.” He mumbled under his breath almost inaudibly as I finished tying the knot on his solid black tie. My hands wound around the length of the tie and yanked him to my eye level so he could initiate eye contact with me.
“Now I know my sweet boy didn’t just mumble.” My eyes formed a glare as I grabbed his chin with my other hand to reposition him as he tried to escape my eyes.“You know to use your big boy voice when you want to speak to your Duchess.”
“Yes, m’lady. Sorry, m’lady. Thank you, m’lady” His cheeks heated up to form a beautiful blush along his cheeks, he often got embarrassed when I reprimanded him for breaking my rules, he just wanted to be a good boy always.
“Good, sweet boy.” I cooed, loosening my strong grip on the fabric. He let out a slight puff of breath, a silent tell that he was relieved that he wouldn't get a punishment from me tonight.
The silence between us once again surfaced as I finished dressing him, getting him to be the picture of perfection for our date tonight. I stepped back to admire my work, the purple button up I had chosen was set off perfectly by the darker hue of his pretty painted nails. The combo of colors stirred something deep inside me, desire, and I hadn’t even meant to match them so perfectly.
My hands tangled themselves in his hair pulling him down to capture him in a heated kiss, he was caught off guard for a moment, but soon melted into the exchange. Even though my stature was smaller then his I swiftly dominated the kiss, slipping my tongue into his mouth and pulling a deep seated groan from his chest. It quickly devolved into sloppiness, our noses bumping into each other as it became more heated, though he didn’t dare touch me without permission.
Gripping his jaw into my hands I forcefully cocked his head to the side so I could gain access to the column of his throat and suck dark bruises into his neck, adding yet another shade of purple to his attire. When I became unsatisfied with the amount of skin that he was showing I started to forcefully tug at his tie, undoing the impeccable knot I had made earlier. The clothes weren’t coming off fast enough so I tore his shirt open, the buttons popping around me. I did like the shirt, but I needed to gain access to him faster. Soon after he was completely naked besides his boxers; all of the progress I had made to get him dressed was completely nixed, though there was no way we were getting dressed again tonight. In my mind dinner was already cancelled.
I backed him into the edge of the bed and started to pepper hickies further down, covering from the bottom of his sternum up to the edge of his jaw. I pushed down on his shoulders to make him sit perched at the edge of the bed with his feet rooted to the floor. Towering above him I explored his form, adding as many marks as I could to his tan skin while still being careful to not give any relief to his half-hardened bulge, wanting to make him as desperate as possible for my touch. His chest was now laden with hickies, enough that he would have to dig out the concealer I had bought him when we first started dating to avoid teasing from Derek later.
“You look so pretty in purple, I just had to add some more.” The smirk was evident in my voice; I was proud of the petechia that speckled his skin to mark him as my own.
Once I was satisfied that I had painted his chest enough, I moved to capture one of his nipples into my mouth, drawing the second moan of tonight out of him. I carefully bit on the hardened bud while I moved to pinch the neglected other, beautiful whines escaping freely from him now as his hips jutted up from the bed trying to find some relief.
I caught a glimpse of his nails again when he fisted the sheets of the bed. Moving away from his chest, I grabbed one of his wrists letting my gaze fall onto the polish. Instinctively I lurched forward and captured his pointer finger into my mouth as I moved my hips to straddle his. He gaped at me in awe as I began to rock my hips into his own, matching the rhythm with my bobbing head around his fingers.
His bulge was hitting perfectly against my clit building an orgasm slowly from my core, though I decided to pull off and stop before it got anywhere. I still had plenty I wanted to do to him before giving him any release. He sat patiently awaiting my next move, even though I’m sure he would’ve loved to get his release now. The excitement was always better with a significant build up.
“I know I usually tie your hands, but I need them free today to have my fun so we’re doing something different,” I told him while maintaining a stare at his beautified nails. He flashed me an anxious look that would’ve worried me if I didn’t see his pupils deepen in want. I simpered at the look on his face, relishing in the fact that it took almost nothing for him to do anything I wanted. My heels clicked against the hardwood while I sauntered back over to the closet, I shifted through to locate the trunk of toys I had stashed. The trunk held something I had been saving for the perfect day - a leg spreader bar. It suited my mood impeccably. The stainless steel bar was adjustable so I could make him as pliable as I desired. Black leather cuffs were at each end attached to the bar with a delicate but unbreakable chain.
I took a slow walk back while hiding the surprise behind my back; I wanted to build the anticipation for him to an almost unbearable degree. When I finally made my way back in front of him he was sitting at the edge still waiting in bated breath for my surprise. My dominance remained unquestionable even as I sank to my knees, the object still hidden behind my back. I started to press dainty kisses and love bites to his inner thighs causing the bulge in his boxers to grow till he was painfully hard. Swiftly I pulled the surprise out, letting the cuffs dangle in front of him in all its glory.
“This ok Spencer?” Sometimes Spencer got lost in his headspace when I checked in with him, so I always made sure to ask firmly and use his name so he acknowledged me. Anytime I pulled something new for him I always triple checked that he was ok with my actions; I never wanted him to do anything he didn’t want to do just to please me.
“Yes, Duchess.” he whispered breathlessly almost inaudibly with his mouth slightly hung open in the beginnings of a gasp and eyes blown wide with lust.
“What did I say about muttering?” My tone wasn’t aggressive, rather it just held a slight edge to let him know that when it comes to consent I want to hear every word clear as a bell.
“Sorry again Duchess.” His voice clear but squeaky as he cowered at my reaction.
“Do that again tonight and you won’t get a reward.” I simply stated whilst I pulled his boxers down and began to attach the cuffs around his ankles making sure they were snug but not uncomfortable.
“Not too tight?”
“No it’s perfect Duchess.” This time he made sure to keep the volume of his voice up and steady. I started to adjust the bar, leaving it just under its widest position so he could still move his legs inwards just barely.
“Not too wide?” I asked. We had never used this type of apparatus before and I wanted to make sure it wasn’t hurting his hips by pushing them too wide.
“No, it’s perfect Duchess.”
I pushed his chest immediately after his final verbal confirmation until he was laying flat on the bed with his hands at his sides. I made sure to step out of his view as I stripped out of my lingerie and heels slowly; he wouldn’t get to peak just yet.
Sauntering back to face him, I let him stare at me in all my naked glory. Every time he saw me naked, he looked like he was seeing me for the first time, his face awestruck and filled with admiration. I straddled his hips once more, sitting further back this time so his bare cock couldn’t reach any of my skin.
“I want you to please me sweet boy, you always do it so well.” I pulled his hand up as I stated my decree, slowly licking up the outside of his pointer finger.
“Yes, m’lady.” He affirmed with a groan of understanding before pulling his hand back down and getting straight to work. His perfectly manicured nails slipped between my folds starting to rub eager circles on my sensitive button trying to please me the best way he knew. A gasp slipped its way out of me when he moved downwards to slip a finger inside, bringing much more stimulation then the intiatial movements. I was dripping at the feeling of his singular finger crooking upwards to hit my g spot and he soon added another, barely fitting them together into my tight heat.
My hips started to rotate to help stroke the fire building in my core. His fingers pumped diligently with the same tempo that my hips bounced in, making sure to hit that special spot inside of me every time to please me perfectly. We maintained the rhythm for a while until I started to falter as my release approached. He picked up the pace to make up for my floundering, his eyes looking in wonder as I was worked into an earth-shattering orgasm.
When he removed his fingers from inside of me they were glistening with my arousal. I grabbed his wrist roughly and brought it up to my eyeline to get a good look at the salacious sight. My tongue darted out, wetting my lips in hungry desire. He eagerly wrapped his lips around his own fingers as I pushed them to his mouth, bobbing his head ever so slightly around them to drink in the taste of my juices. I reveled in the sight before me, his eyes glazed over in lust, sucking eagerly on his own fingers that were adorned with the pretty plum polish.
As I pulled them out of his mouth strings of his own spit escaped, giving me a perfect idea. I thumbed the bottom of his chin, wanting him to open his mouth again for me, he opened obediently understanding my nonverbal queues with perfection. Pulling at the root of his hair with my other hand to tilt his head back to give me the perfect angle. I spat into his mouth letting it drip into the back of his throat before forcing his mouth shut with my thumb.
“Thank you m’lady.” He garbled out unprompted as he tried to swallow. A grin graced my face at his thanks.
“Good Boy Spencer.”
I spit again into my hand and wrapped my palm around his length, slowly pumping which in turn pulled beautiful whines from his bruised throat. My pace quickened as I jerked him off with expertise, precum pooling around my fist as a testament to his arousal. His hips tried to meet my strokes even though the bar was barely giving him any leeway, still I decided to squash his movements with a rough shove back down to the mattress. He was steadily reaching the precipice of an orgasm, though I refused to give him the satisfaction and pulled away briskly.
“Please Duchess, I’ve been a good boy for you!” He complained loudly which made my eyebrows shoot up into my hairline. He wasn’t one to beg, usually he just sat like a good boy and took what I gave him with no qualms.
“Well I was going to fuck you as a reward…” My voice taking on a sing-song cadence just to tease him further. “But, I could just do this instead.” I said with an exaggerated sigh as I began to jerk him off again albeit more lazily this time.
“Please Duchess, I’m sorry. C-can you please fuck me?” He flashed me his perfect hazel colored irises which had taken on the infamous puppy dog eyes. The combination of his pout and glistening eyes made me relent. I positioned my entrance so the head of his cock was rested right at my opening, but not before dragging my soaked cunt along the outside of his shaft, eliciting a soft gasp from Spencer even though it was the lightest of touches.
We groaned in unison as I slowly sank down onto his cock, letting every ridge catch onto my walls. I sunk down to the base, keeping still at first to take pleasure in the fullness I felt from being with him. He always hit the deepest parts of me that no other man could reach; I truly believe he was made for me. His hands once again fisted the sheets while also trying to pull his legs apart in vain, trying to fight the primal urge to thrust upwards. I rewarded his good behavior by a languid roll of my hips, his legs jerking against the bar at the stimulation gained from the motion. As I started to build a slow but steady pace I traced up one of his arms like a ghost with the hand that wasn’t busy keeping me balanced. Lacing my fingers through his own I pinned his hand swiftly above him in a firm grasp causing a desperate whine to come from Spencer.
“You looked so pretty I just had to have you, sweet boy.” I said softly which was in stark contrast to my rough movements to pin his other hand above his head.
“Oh my God…” He continues to gasp out declarations of disbelief at his pleasure being completely lost in it. I bit hard into my lip as I let myself quicken my hips, rolling in fervor and attempting to gain as much pleasure as possible. My eyes raked over Spencer’s debaucherous appearance, his eyes glazed in a lustful daze, mouth open in a permanent gasp, sweat glistening over his entire figure, and beautiful nails gripped around my own digging into my flesh. I inwardly groaned at the sight of him lost in the throes of passion; he looked picture perfect to me.
“I just couldn’t look at your fingers without thinking about them being inside me,” I was dazed with euphoria, a slew of raunchy comments falling from my lips joining in with his muddled words.
A sudden orgasm took what little breath I had away shocking my core blissfully. The coil in my stomach snapped into a small but powerful high, though my hips continued to shift to ride out the end of my out of the blue orgasm.
I completely focused on bringing Spencer to his ultimate pleasure fervently rocking my hips in a fury. Only little squeaks were escaping him now.
“Say thank you to your Duchess for fucking you.” I said to assert my dominance again.
“Thank you Duchess!” He yelled out into the air, loud enough that our neighbors could definitely hear. Another orgasm was coming around the corner for me, my body getting off to Spence’s desperate pleas.
My hips started to stutter as I teetered on the edge of my release, I could tell he was close too, the gasps from his lips increasing in volume at each time I rocked my hips.
“You’ve been such a good boy Spencer, I just want to give you the biggest reward possible.” I gasped out, his eyes widening in understanding as I let go of his hands and repositioned them to rest on my hips. “I’m going to let you cum inside tonight.”
Spencer's eyes rolled back into his head at my words while arching his back to the steepest angle he could manage causing my nipples to rub against his chest in blissful friction. He started to meet the bounce of my hips as best as he could while restrained with his own thrusts, causing a jingle from the cuffs around his feet. Normally I would berate him for the act, but I was so close to shattering into a million pieces for the third time tonight that I didn’t find myself caring. As I leaned forward to be as close as possible to his body my hand wound around his throat like a necklace applying pressure that I knew would send him over the edge.
“C’mon my sweet boy cum for me” My hot breath caressed his skin as my whisper hit his ear. One last whine fell from him and with one last swirl of my hips he filled me with his warmth, his nails digging into the sides of my hips as he rode out his high.
“Thank you Duchess.” He incoherently whined as his release flooded through him in waves. My teeth sunk into the shell of his ear as the last rope shot into me it caused me to be shoved over the edge for the final time. Our bodies were shaking in pleasure as we finished our respective orgasms, our breaths intermingling as we tried to catch them.
Once I steadied my breath, I guided his fingers to dip between my folds to collect our cocktail of juices, then I pushed them up to his lips to mimic my earlier actions. This time, however, he got to taste the culmination of us together. He swirled his tongue over his own fingers that were manicured to perfection, sinking his lips down as far as he could take them, only stopping when he reached the back of his throat with a choke. He pulled off his own fingers with a pop, flashing me a smirk as he did, which I then matched.
My body was still shaky as I got up to go to the bathroom, preparing to pamper Spencer with aftercare. I went to the bathroom to clean myself up and got redressed, though this time in a much less form fitting outfit, just a simple flowy robe. I got my little collection of aftercare items, a wet washcloth for cleaning, some snacks, lotion for his inevitably bruised ankles, and the softest blanket we owned. Spencer whimpered quietly when I cleaned his length, the overstimulation a bit too much for him. Squirting some lotion onto my palms I massaged the areas I had abused with kisses, then I squatted down to rub the lotion over his bruised ankles as well.
“Sorry for ruining date night Spencer.” I giggled out as I finished. I pulled the large fluffy blanket over us enveloping us in warmth.
“Don’t worry, I thoroughly enjoyed it.” He said pairing it with a characteristically Spencer kiss to my forehead. “Though I am a bit hungry now.”
“I'll make pancakes for dinner.”

Hi! Thanks for answering about requests, may I suggest something ? I was thinking about a scene in Coi timeline of when Gabriel had to deal with Thomas being accused of murder, and maybe adding also Gideons reaction to that, as it was a scene I really wanted to have read in Chain of Iron but sadly wasn't there.
Congrats on your celebration and happy bday!! Would you consider doing a fic when Thomas was arrested please? Like both Gabrily and Sophideon finding out
There were two of you who requested this exact scene so I thought, well I have to do it now! Please enjoy!
CHAIN OF IRON SPOILER WARNING
Family Above All - The Lightwoods
Characters: Thomas Lightwood, Gabriel Lightwood, Cecily Lightwood, Gideon Lightwood, Sophie Lightwood, Eugenia Lightwood, Maurice Bridgestock
Time: 1903, London, England
Thomas had had better days.
Granted, being arrested and accused of several gruesome murders was not a remote candidate for one of his better days, but he’d surprisingly remained calm. Bridgestock had taken too much pleasure in arresting him for something he had no situational understanding of but for Thomas, he had a long list of people who would look out for him. Of course, when his parents find out, they would jump to his defense in a heartbeat. But Thomas had another advantage as well—Aunt Cecily and Uncle Gabriel were currently running the Institute, and there was no way they would let Bridgestock try him for murder.
Thomas’s hopes were fulfilled when the doors of the Institute flew open and his aunt and uncle stood in the threshold with furious expressions directed at the Inquisitor. “What in Raziel’s name is going on here?” Uncle Gabriel demanded. His voice was thunderous and echoed in the entryway.
“Thomas Lightwood was found with the body of Lilian Highsmith, covered in her blood,” said Bridgestock, much too happily for speaking about a death of one of the most esteemed members of the Enclave. “We’ve caught the murderer and justice will be swiftly served for the families of the deceased.”
“Bollocks!” shouted Aunt Cecily, her voice just as thunderous and threatening as Uncle Gabriel’s had been. Thomas wondered if the Inquisitor knew that Aunt Cecily was not someone you wanted to displease. “Maurice, you cannot possibly believe that Thomas here is capable of something so horrendous.”
The Inquisitor did not flinch. So, he did not know not to anger Cecily Lightwood. “Your familial connection creates a conflict of interest in this case, Mrs. Lightwood,” Bridgestock said, annoyed. “It is best to let myself and the other members of the Council decide Thomas’s fate.”
Gabriel looked as if one of Christopher’s flammable experiments were about to erupt out of his ears. “It will be a cold day in Hell before I leave my nephew in the hands of someone without his best interest in mind,” he said sternly. “Until you come to us with cold, hard evidence of his guilt, Thomas’s name will not be announced to the Clave and he will remain here, in the Institute, is that understood?”
The Inquisitor looked furious, but Thomas had to admit that Uncle Gabriel had a point. There was no evidence other than being found. There was no weapon, no defensive wounds. “All right,” answered Bridgestock unhappily. “He will remain anonymous to those outside of the investigation. But, he will be under guard in the Institute Sanctuary until he can be tried under the Mortal Sword. Fair?”
Aunt Cecily took a step forward looking ready to swing her fist but Uncle Gabriel held her back, though he looked equally unhappy. “It is fair,” Thomas said suddenly. His aunt and uncle looked at him, their expressions easing to concern. “I will face the Mortal Sword. I am innocent and the Sword will prove my innocence. There are worse places to wait than the Sanctuary.”
“Splendid,” Bridgestock announced. He motioned the guards holding him to move toward the Sanctuary and Thomas followed, hoping he wouldn’t have to wait long.
.
.
The moment Thomas disappeared behind the hall to the Sanctuary, Gabriel and Cecily went into action. “I’ll call for my brother,” Cecily rushed, her face pinched in worry for their nephew. “Have him bring the Sword from Paris and be the one to question Thomas.”
Gabriel nodded, holding on to her hands tight. She could see the worry and fear filling her husband’s body. “I’ll call my brother, as well,” he said, his voice wavering in his attempt to remain calm. “They’ve been through too much. Damn Maurice for putting them through more heartache but there is no reason on earth Gideon and Sophie should not be here.”
Cecily released on of her hands from his grip and held it against his jaw. He relaxed in her touch, as he always did, and kissed her palm softly. “We’ll protect him,” she said confidently. He nodded without a word. “We are the co-heads of the Institute,” she added, lifting his head to meet her eyes. “We will protect Thomas.”
Gabriel smiled, ever so slightly, and squeezed her hand. “Marrying you was the best decision I ever made,” he thought aloud. Cecily smiled happily.
“Of course it was.”
.
.
The room closed in on Sophie Lightwood.
The words no mother should ever have to hear she had heard too many times. These were her children—her babies. She carried each one of them for nine months and brought them into the world surrounded in so much love. And yet—
Barbara is gone. Thomas has been arrested. Eugenia is ruined.
“Sophie.” Gideon’s voice was urgent in her ear, pulling her back into the present. His arms were around her tight. “Sophie, we must go. He needs us.”
Sophie nodded. Her son needs her. She must go to him. “Where is Genia?” she asked, her throat hoarse.
“I’m here, Mum,” came her daughter’s voice. Eugenia emerged from her bedroom with a fierce expression. “No one is getting to Tom if I have any say about it.”
Despite everything, Sophie smiled in relief at her daughter. Eugenia was strong and it eased much of Sophie’s worries (not all, of course. Once a mother always a mother). And her girls had always been protective of their younger brother, who was not so little anymore. She nodded at Eugenia and glanced up at Gideon. “Let’s go. We must see Tom.”
.
.
Thomas hissed at the sting from cut on his hands from the rough way the guards has fastened him to his seat. “Aunt Cecily, that hurts.”
She clicked her tongue at him and continued to dab away at the blood around his wrists. She insisted on checking for any dirt or infection in his wound—Bridgestock had prohibited any iratzes for him as his injuries were considered evidence. “I’ll hang that man for having you tied to a chair,” Aunt Cecily grumbled. Thomas fought an ill-timed smile but he was comforted with the knowledge that the adults in his life were looking out for him. And the knowledge that Aunt Cecily was fully capable of following through on her threats.
He had heard his father arguing with several members of the Council upstairs, but it was his mother’s and sister’s heels clicking against the stone floors that created the loudest sound in his ears. The door opened and they flooded in. Eugenia looked angry and carried her knife in her hand, which she had likely used to threaten the guard to let her in. His mother, on the other hand, looked as if she were about to cry. “Thomas,” she whispered desperately and rushed to him. Her hands were soft against his face. There were bags under her eyes that had been there ever since they lost Barbara and Thomas knew they would likely never go away. It pained him to see her like that—tired and heartbroken. “They haven’t hurt you, have they? Are you all right?”
“I’m okay, Mum,” he assured her in as comforting of a voice as he could muster. “Aunt Cecily is a very good caretaker.”
“With a wicked good right hook,” Eugenia mused. He could almost feel the smug grin their aunt gave her at that comment.
“I’m happy to see you Genie,” Thomas said to his sister suddenly. Eugenia seemed surprised, but pleased. “I don’t think I’ve ever felt more relieved to see you come at me with a knife.”
Sophie sighed in defeat and kneeled in front of him, still checking him over despite his insistence that he was not hurt. “We know it wasn’t you,” she told him. “Of course, it wasn’t you. You would never do such a thing. Your father has gone ballistic upstairs with your uncle over this and I have half a mind to march up there and join them.”
Thomas smiled. “I’m sure if you and Aunt Cecily paraded up there looking as angry as you do now, the Council will be frightened to tears.”
“As well they should be.” Aunt Cecily stood and wiped her hands on the skirt of her dress. She was still scowling, but her eyes showed her affection for him. She’d always looked out for his cousins with such fervor that it felt strange experiencing it for himself, but he was not surprised. His own mother had always told him that if he ever needed anything and he couldn’t reach her, that Aunt Cecily would help him as if he were her own child.
“Thank you, Aunt Cecily,” Thomas said to her. She smiled kindly at him. He turned back to his mother, who gazed at him with heartbreaking concern. “I’m all right, Mum. Truly.”
Sophie sniffed and tried her best to smile for him. Thomas wished she wouldn’t do that. “Hush,” she scolded him without malice. “Let your mother fuss over you. It is the one thing I can still do for my children that has no age limit.”
“You do plenty for us, Mum,” Eugenia offered in one of her softer tones. Her knife was still in her hand. “Tom is just like you. He’s looking out for everyone other than himself when he should be focusing on himself. Lucky for him, I am like Papa.”
Thomas scoffed, though it came out sounding more like a laugh, and their mother finally smiled ever so slightly. “Your uncle has convinced the Inquisitor to lockdown the Institute until Charlotte and Will return with the Mortal Sword. No curious onlookers will be poking around here. We’ll make sure of it.”
Aunt Cecily clapped her hands, looking pleased. “That man,” she said, delighted. “Reminds me why I married him every day. Come—let us go add fuel to the fire.” She gripped Sophie’s upper arm and lifted her from the floor at Thomas’s feet. She turned to Eugenia. “I trust you to guard the door?”
Eugenia smiled devilishly. “No one will get past me.”
Aunt Cecily winked—she had helped with much of Genia’s training—and tugged at Sophie’s arm. “Thomas will be all right. I promise. Aunt’s Honor.”
His mother rolled her eyes, but she went along with Aunt Cecily after hugging Thomas tight. “I love you,” she whispered in his ear.
“I know,” he had answered. “I love you, too, Mum.”
.
.
“This is idiotic,” Gideon demanded. He stood in the foyer of the Institute, behind locked doors that he would never be able to thank his brother enough for, staring down the Inquisitor with little hesitation. “You have known Thomas since he was an infant, Maurice. He has never done anything remotely like this in his life. You can’t possibly believe he’s killed all these people!”
Bridgestock was unbothered by Gideon’s outbursts. If anything, he looked simply annoyed that he had heard the same argument from various members of the Lightwood family. “Sentimentality and nepotism have no place in a murder investigation, Gideon,” he said roughly. Gideon thought he was less than a second away from knocking the daylights out of him. “I don’t care if he’s your son or not. He will be investigated.”
Clicks of heels sounded toward them; they were fast, determined. Gideon didn’t need to turn to know it was Sophie and Cecily, but he turned anyway to find her face red with anger. In no less than a moment was she at his side, her hand rising from her waist.
A loud, echoing slap filled the tense air. There was a moment of silence, in which the occupants of the foyer stood gaping, before Bridgestock’s face morphed into anger, his cheek turning a livid red. Nearly as quickly as his hand had come up to return the hit were Gideon and Gabriel’s hands on his wrist with an iron grip. “How dare you shackle my son to a chair and leave him bleeding,” Sophie seethed. She had not flinched. Sophie was hardly livid, but when she was, she was glorious and frightening. Gideon tightened his grip on Bridgestock’s wrist, forcing himself to hold back from snapping the bones into pieces for raising a hand to his wife.
“You arrest my son with no evidence, dare raise a hand to my wife, and now I learn you have shackled him without iratzes?” Gideon roared. He stepped closer to Bridgestock, his wrist still in his grip—Gabriel had let go long ago, though his gaze was thunderous—and hissed through his teeth: “Some man of the law you are.”
“Careful who you threaten,” warned the Inquisitor. He was annoyingly calm, testing even, with a pleased and self-satisfied glint in his eyes. “You may be at the Consul’s side, but it is I who dictate the Law, Lightwood.”
“And how long will that last— interrupted Cecily. She stood at Gabriel’s side with her chin held high—“when Thomas states under the Mortal Sword that he is innocent? What explanation will you create to guard yourself from ridicule among the Council for being so certain of a case without evidence, dissolved with a single question under the Sword?”
The Inquisitor’s angry glare turned to Cecily, who stared him down right back. Gideon suppressed a smirk.
“Think twice before you say or do anything to my wife,” Gabriel warned.
Bridgestock angrily twisted his arm out from Gideon’s grip and took a step back. His eyes were still full of annoyance and anger. “It would do you both some good to control your women. Loose tongues lead to bad incidents.”
“Is that a promise?” Cecily wondered.
“It would do you some good to learn temperance and manners,” Gideon snapped. “Get out before I do something actually worth an arrest. Do not show your face to me again until Will returns with the Mortal Sword.”
Hope you enjoyed :’) || @tsccreatorsnet

Chapter 1 - Chapter 2 - Chapter 3 - Chapter 4 - Finale
——————————————————————————
The inspiration for this story came from my amazing friend @2-cute-4-school and her story called ‘Evanescent’. Her work is so brilliant and she is such an under-appreciated writer. I can’t recommend or praise her enough. Thank you to the ends of the earth for letting me use it as a starting point.
I just want to say a massive thank you to everyone who has read post mortem. This is my first series and it so special to me so it means so much to receive likes, comments and tags saying that you enjoyed it. It has brought me brilliant friends such as @in-my-neofeelings and @honei-n and I couldn’t be more thankful for that. It’s been a wild ride so far and I hope you enjoy the finale!

——————————————————————————
Jeno walked swiftly down the hallway. He had holding a single piece of paper, folded in half to hide what was on it and his feet were almost silent as he made his way to your room. He turned a quick corner, knocking on your door three times, pausing for a second, then knocking again twice, before letting himself in.
He closed the door behind him, twisting the lock so that it clicked, before turning around and facing the rest of you. He held up the paper in his hands.
‘I’ve mapped out the blueprint of the army base.’
I.N. spoke next, running a hand through his hair to hide the fact that it was shaking slightly.
‘I’ve figured out how to override the system.’
Wooyoung joined in, swallowing before talking.
‘I’ve sorted our weapons.’
You spoke last.
‘I’ve planned our route.’
The four of you looked around at each other, your obvious nerves making the tension levels rise.
I.N. took a deep breath.
‘Ok, so we’re all set for going back into the simulation.’
You nodded, determination taking over your mind as you shared a look with the boys in front of you.
‘Let’s blow this thing up.’
It hadn’t been easy to get organised. Especially not without drawing any attention to yourselves. Jeno had managed to draw up a map of the army base, marking the easiest route to the kill switch. He still remembered the ins and outs of that place from his summer camp, therefore was nominated the best person for the job. I.N. had spent his few days in the tech lab. He worked alongside a few other technicians, supporting people in the simulation. He quickly realised however, that they weren’t supporting them, but instead were directing packs of zombies towards them, trying to get as many people as possible to turn. It was in mindless conversations with these people that I.N. managed to ask a few questions about the system and get a vague understanding of how it worked. Wooyoung had been the one to realise that you would need weapons. Once the people here figured out that you had gone, they were going to come after you with everything they had. You knew too much. You were going to have to protect yourself, and Wooyoung managed to figure out how. And your job was to plan the way to the army base. You were hoping that I.N. could find a way to place you at the army base but, just in case, you had planned seven other routes. You had also spoken to Donghyuck’s sister, begging her to stay safe and keep her head down for the time you were away. You didn’t tell her much, only that you were going to get Donghyuck. She seemed to understand a lot more than you thought she did, as she gently held on to you while you hugged goodbye, taking the chance to whisper “do what you have to” in your ear. You had no idea if she had figured out what was really going on, but you knew you would never underestimate the girl again.
Tomorrow was the big day. Tomorrow was when it mattered. Tomorrow you went back into the simulation.
---
You were lying in bed that night, Jeno next to you as you chatted with each other about random things, trying to ease your nerves. You were glad that he hadn’t left you alone, instead claiming that he would wait for you to fall asleep before heading back to his own room.
‘What do you think will happen to us in there?’ He asked, changing the subject from whether starfish have feelings to the task ahead of you.
‘I don’t know.’ You answered honestly. ‘Probably what happened before, except harder. There are more zombies and we have to be careful not to get bitten. I mean, we always were careful but... everything relies on us now.’
‘As long as one of us makes it we’ll be okay.’ He reasoned, keeping his eyes on the ceiling above him. ‘We’re gonna get to see everyone again too.’
‘Yeah.’ You breathed out, your mind filled with the memories of Hyuck and you couldn’t begin to imagine what it would feel like to see him again. ‘It feels like it’s been a lifetime since I saw them last.’
‘I know.’ Jeno replied. And he really did. Since you both got your real memories back, your friendship had gone right back to normal. It was such a relief to have someone who understood the situation you were both put in, especially as it was so hard to explain.
A silence fell over the two of you for a second.
‘Are you thinking about Hyuck?’ He asked, turning his head to look at you.
‘Yeah.’ You said honestly, keeping your eyes on the ceiling and blinking back the tears that were gathering. ‘I miss him.’
‘I know you do... I also know that he misses you too, if not more. I still can’t quite wrap my mind around the fact that they actually think that we’re dead.’ Jeno looked back at the ceiling, blinking back tears of his own before you saw them. ‘Do you think they’ll believe us when we tell them about the simulation?’
‘I mean, we’ll be alive. Surely that must be proof enough?’ You wondered. ‘Although, it almost doesn’t matter whether they believe us or not. We actually don’t need them to, we just need to hit that button.’
Jeno nodded.
‘You’re right. We need to focus on shutting it down and we can properly reunite and explain everything to them once we’ve woken up again.’
You hummed in agreement, your eyes shutting slightly as tiredness began to take over you.
---
Tomorrow had arrived.
You woke up to an empty room, Jeno fulfilling his promise and heading back to his once you had fallen asleep. You looked over at the alarm clock on your bedside table, the red numbers staring back at you.
9:37am
You were meeting the boys in Wooyoung’s room at 10am, as per I.N.’s request, meaning you had 20 minutes. You lay in bed for a short while, the thought of what you were preparing to do occupying your mind, before climbing out and heading towards the shower.
After a quick shower, you dried off and pulled on some more clothes. All the clothes supplied here were the same, tracksuit bottoms and a t shirt, the colours just varied every day. Today you had white bottoms and a white t shirt as well. You pulled them on before walking towards your door. You opened it, stepped into the hallway and began making your way to Wooyoung’s room.
---
By the time you arrived, the other boys were already there. There was a heavy silence in the air, it was clear that they’d been discussing something before you’d arrived.
‘What wrong?’ You asked, afraid of what they were about to tell you.
‘Dr Kim is in the pod room. He booked it last night and apparently won’t be leaving for the rest of the week.’ Jeno explained.
Your brows furrowed slightly in confusion.
‘Ok, that’s not good, not at all. Is Dr Kim-’
‘The one you overheard with Jeno? Yes.’ I.N. cut you off. ‘Look, we can’t waste any time. I say that, as soon as he leaves the room, we go in, lock the door, and get into that simulation.’
The three of you nodded in agreement.
‘I.N’s right.’ Wooyoung said. ‘We don’t have time to wait for an opening, we’re gonna need to create one. We can hear the door opening from here so, as long as we are near, we can make sure to take that gap.’
‘There’s something else.’ I.N. abruptly mentioned. You and the two other boys turning to look at him quizzically. ‘The three of you are going in alone.’
‘What? I.N. wait-’
‘No, let me explain.’ I.N. interrupted Wooyoung’s protest. You didn’t know how to feel, you had been prepared for all of you going in, you weren’t sure how you were going to leave him behind. ‘The three of you are going in alone because you have to. Firstly, in order to get into the simulation, someone else has to “authorise” it, for lack of a better word. You are going to be lying in a pod, and I’m going to “authorise” you going in. No matter what we try and do, one of us would always have to stay behind. And it has to be me. The three of you are much more suited for the challenge ahead, I’m just the brains of the operation. Plus, I’ve got to make sure that no one can follow you in or pull you out, therefore I need to stay here. Besides, from out here I can throw them off your scent, hack into the camera system to make sure that the cameras don’t follow you, and other things like that.’
He looked around at you, easily telling from your faces that you clearly weren’t okay with this development.
‘I.N. we need all four of us. We can do this if we’re together.’ Jeno pleaded, but I.N. simply shook his head.
‘You can do this alone.’
‘No I.N. we need you. Like you said you’re the brains of this and what if we come across a problem that you know how to solve but we don’t? You have to come with us.’ You begged him, but he didn’t change his opinion.
‘You have to trust me on this. You need to leave me behind.’
Wooyoung was the only one who hadn’t said anything, just staring at his friend sadly.
‘You know they’ll punish you for us going in right? You’re going to pay for the consequences of our actions.’ Wooyoung whispered, obviously scared for what would happen once you leave.
‘I know.’ I.N. replied, his voice quiet but surprisingly calm. ‘But that should buy you guys some time. And you’re going to need all the time you can get.’
The three of you nodded, finally understanding that, even if I.N. wanted to, he couldn’t join you in the simulation. He needed to protect you from the outside.
‘Just... promise me one favour?’ I.N. asked.
‘Anything.’ Wooyoung guaranteed.
‘Let them know that I’m okay. Especially Chan... please just make sure he’s not blaming himself.’ He whispered.
You felt yourself nodding. You couldn’t help but let your mind drift off to the boys who were in there, waiting for you. You thought of how Renjun had argued with you not to become a raider in the first place, claiming that he just wanted you to be safe. You thought of how Jaemin had only ever asked one thing of you, and that was for you to stay alive. You thought of how desperate San had been to stay with you when you had told him to leave you behind. And you thought of how Donghyuck had looked when you told him you were going on that final run. You thought of how you could see every part of him want to tell you “no”. You thought of how many times he had pulled you in for a hug and begged to stay with him. And you thought of how he had looked when he sat by your grave. They needed to know that you were okay. They needed to know that you didn’t blame them. They needed to know that you loved them.
The sound of a door opening and harsh footsteps treading down the hallway next to you interrupted your thoughts. The four of you froze, listening to the muttering voice of Dr Kim disappearing down the corridor as he muttered about being interrupted.
‘The room’s empty.’ I.N. stated.
Jeno stood up, quietly opening the door and checking that it was clear before turning back to the rest of you.
‘Let’s go.’
---
‘This better be important.’ Dr Kim stormed into his office. ‘I have other business to attend to.’
‘Sir, you’re going to want to see this.’
The head doctor, Dr Kim, turned his head towards the voice of his assistant. On their computer screen was a video, a video of your conversation from last night. Dr Kim leaned on the desk in front of him as he listened to the four of you talk.
‘Ok, so we’re all set for going back into the simulation.’
‘Yes. Let’s blow this thing up.’
Dr Kim took a deep breath as he tried to make sense of this development.
‘How did they find out?’ He asked, his voice quiet but the anger clear.
‘We don’t know.’ His assistant replied. ‘But they’re planning to head back into the simulation and shut it down. They’ve... they’ve found the kill switch.’
Dr Kim’s eyes shot to his assistant, who once again shrugged, answering the question he hadn’t yet asked.
‘Then the answer is simple. We need to stop them. Shut down the pod room, no one goes in and I want to be alerted if there is any attempt to override the system. And you-’ Dr Kim clicked at the bodyguard on his right side. ‘Let’s go pay our little heroes a visit. I think they’re in need of a few new memories, don’t you?’
---
You watched as I.N. shut the door tight behind him, making sure to twist the lock. He stopped briefly, taking a quick look around before beginning his instructions.
‘Ok, Wooyoung, go into that cupboard and grab the solution that’s there, y/n, find me a syringe and Jeno, go and open three of those pods.’
You all nodded, quickly scrambling to fulfil your orders. You were pulling open random drawers, desperately looking for a syringe for I.N. to use. You were on your seventh when you finally found it. You turned around triumphantly, holding it out for I.N. to take when the lights surrounding the door went red and a low electronic groan echoed out.
‘What was that?’ Jeno asked to no one in particular.
‘We don’t have time to wait around and find out.’ I.N. grabbed the syringe out of you hand while uttering those words. The tension was unbearable, all of you knowing that you had a very short amount of time before you were caught.
What none of you knew was that, you had already run out of time.
---
Dr Kim threw open Wooyoung’s door, a shout of frustration leaving his mouth as he found it empty. He had been to all of your rooms in an attempt to find you. He stormed into the corridor again, his eyes drifting to the pod room down the hall. He walked up towards the door, pressed his ear against the wood, and listened.
His guard behind him had a hand on his gun as he watched Dr Kim’s face transform into an expression of absolute rage.
‘They’re in there.’ He forced through gritted teeth. He turned around and looked at his guard before shouting. ‘Get this door open!’
The guard moved forwards immediately, putting the gun back in its holster and attempting to kick down the door. After a few tries he turned around.
‘It won’t budge. It needs to be opened from the control room.’ He informed the doctor in front of him.
Dr Kim let out a strangled scream and lunged forward to grab the radio off the guard’s waist. He lifted it up to his mouth and spoke into it, shouting instructions at the people in the control room.
‘I want the door to the pod room open right now!’
‘But Dr Kim, if that-’ A static voice came through from the other side, giving him some excuse as to why he needed to wait.
‘I don’t care! Open the door now!’ Dr Kim threw the radio back at the guard in front of him and watched as the lights around the door changed from a red to white, signalling that it was unlocked.
He threw the door open and burst into the room.
---
‘Get this door open!’
Dr Kim’s voice travelled through the door separating you and the four of you inside looked at each other in fear.
‘Jeno, quick! Come here.’ I.N. instructed, moving the syringe so that it was close to his neck. He had already given you and Wooyoung injections, only Jeno’s was left. He pulled the syringe out, ready to send you back into the simulation. ‘Go and lie in a pod and close the door on top of you.’
His voice was sharp and clear, not a single trace of fear in it, the only thing betraying him were his slightly shaking hands. You could hear a loud bang come from the door as you ran towards the closest pod. You turned back towards I.N. as a thought crossed your mind.
‘I.N.!’ You called out, only getting a hum in response. ‘Can you do me a favour?’
I.N. looked up at you for a split second, his expression conveying all he needed to say.
Now is not the time to ask questions but yes, what do you need?
‘Please, look after Hyuck’s sister for me? Make sure that she’s okay.’
I.N. nodded.
‘I promise.’
You felt a small amount of relief flow through you. You were leaving without speaking to her so you were glad to know that she would be protected. You quickly lay down in your open pod, pulled the door down over you, and, as the door clicked shut, you were encased in a pale blue light.
A few seconds passed before I.N’s voice came through.
‘Ok, I can’t seem to put you straight into the army base for some reason, the location is locked on here and I don’t have time to figure out how to hack it, but I’m going to drop you as close as I can. It’s in the nearby city and looks like it’s just under half a day’s walk away.’
You took a deep breath as you mentally pictured the maps you had drawn up. You knew you had planned some routes that went through nearby cities, you just weren’t sure which on you were going to be dropped in.
‘If I remember correctly from when we went in, you’re going to get very drowsy in a minute, just relax into it. Let the simulation take you okay? Don’t panic.’
He paused for a minute, leaving you in silence, your own breathing being the only thing you could hear. You could feel your eyes begin to relax and the tiredness swept through your veins. You could feel your heart rate begin to rise, all the memories from the simulation flooding back through your mind. Your father’s death, Jeno’s death, Donghyuck’s sister’s death, the first girl you killed. But you forced those pictures out of your mind. This time wasn’t going to be like that. You were prepared. You weren’t going in there to just fight for your life, you were going in there to save everyone. I.N.’s voice came back over the speakers, just as you lost consciousness completely.
‘Good luck.’
---
You opened your eyes.
You were surprised to find yourself standing up. You were stood in the middle of a road, clearly on an abandoned high street. The shops up and down the pavement were empty, some even having been looted. You turned to look around you, spotting Wooyoung and Jeno a little further down.
You took an experimental step, relieved when you didn’t go crashing to the ground, and took off in a jog. Both of the boys saw you moving towards them and came forwards to meet you halfway.
You came to a halt when you reached them, the three of you standing in silence.
‘Well...’ Wooyoung spoke, his eyes constantly darting around your surroundings. ‘We made it.’
‘Yeah, I guess we did.’ You mumbled, your eyes looking down at the ground. It was only when you did this, did you realise the clothes that you were wearing. ‘Oh my god! I’m in the clothes I died in.’ You realised, both Jeno and Wooyoung’s eyes darting to their bodies as well.
You recognised Jeno’s outfit from the final day at Mark, the sight of him running through the infested house on the monitors was not one that you would easily forget, and judging from Wooyoung’s shocked face, he was also wearing what he had been killed in.
‘Wow. Yeah, thankfully the clothes from just before we died. Cause, you know, there wouldn’t be much left of mine otherwise.’ Jeno’s shot a smile at the two of you.
You stared at him in disbelief, a laugh leaving you despite the circumstances.
‘Only you could joke about blowing yourself up like that.’ You chuckled.
But Wooyoung whirled around to stare at Jeno.
‘You blew yourself up?’ He asked, as Jeno nodded in confirmation.
‘Yeah, just pulled the pin on a grenade and ran into a group of zombies.’ He shrugged like it was no big deal, causing Wooyoung to stare at you.
‘It’s true.’ You informed him. ‘We were in the floor above. The blast knocked us off our feet.’ Your voice got quieter towards the end. Even though Jeno was very much alive, listening to the blast and coming down to the wreckage of Mark’s kitchen wasn’t an easy thing to forget.
Jeno placed a hand on your shoulder, sending you a comforting smile. You sent one back before turning to Wooyoung again.
‘But what about you? San told me all about your heroics, sacrificing yourself so that they could get into the army base.’ You grinned at him, watching as Wooyoung blushed slightly.
‘I’m not the only one though, who sacrificed myself for San am I?’ He asked, looking you directly in the eye.
Your smile shrunk slightly, leaving only a sad one on your lips.
‘We weren’t both making it out of that alive.’
You all fell into silence after you spoke those words, all replaying the scenes of your own deaths in your minds. It wasn’t something you ever expected to be haunted with, but here you were, stumbling back through this wasted version of the world, being stalked by your own ghost.
‘Let’s just get our weapons and move on?’ You suggested, breaking the tension as both boys nodded in agreement.
‘If I remember correctly...’ Wooyoung muttered, mainly to himself as he walked through a broken shop window. He disappeared for a while, making yours and Jeno’s hearts race in fear. You had forgotten the terror that came along with losing sight of someone for a few seconds in this climate.
His head popped up again, a childish smile on his face.
‘Found it.’ He informed you, even though neither you nor Jeno had any clue as to what “it” was.
‘You know,’ Wooyoung continued. ‘I.N. actually couldn’t have dropped us in a better place, I grew up around here and I know that the owner of this store was very paranoid about people stealing his things. So he had a secret compartment put in, and filled it with these.’
Wooyoung appeared over the top again, this time holding a gun in each hand. They were large guns, similar to the kind that you had used at Mark’s. He handed one to each of you and then grabbed one more for himself. He also pulled a box out that was filled with cases of spare bullets.
‘I thought we might need these too.’ He said as he unzipped a backpack on the floor, emptying the contents and filling it again with the cases of bullets and a few spare pistols. He also made sure to hand both you and Jeno a handgun.
‘How do you know all of this?’ Jeno asked, his eyes wide at the sight in front of him.
‘Hmmm? Oh I worked here part time. It paid quite well actually. He only ever took on three students a year so it was really competitive.’ Wooyoung replied.
‘So he told all his employees about this? How come no one else took these?’ You wondered aloud.
‘Oh no. He didn’t tell all of his employees. Only me.’ Wooyoung corrected you.
‘Well, please don’t take this the wrong way, but why you?’
Wooyoung looked up at Jeno’s question, diverting his eyes from the gun in front of him.
‘Simple. He liked me.’
Another large smile broke out across the boy’s face, one that made you smile with him, without realising it. Wooyoung was such a happy virus, someone who could make people happy or brighten their day without even trying. Your mind drifted to Donghyuck. The only boy who could make you smile even in the worst of circumstances. You missed him. You missed him so much that it physically hurt. It sometimes felt like he was the only thing keeping you going.
‘Right.’ Wooyoung’s voice cut through your train of thought. ‘Shall we go?’
You opened your mouth to answer but before you got a chance to, a low groan sounded through the high street. It was a noise that you hadn’t heard for a while, but nevertheless, still managed to send a chill of terror down your spine.
You turned slowly and made eye contact with the zombie staring at you through the broken store window.
---
‘Where are they?’ The Dr Kim bellowed as he burst into the camera room. ‘I want eyes on the three of them right now!’
All he got in response were frantic nods from the staff as they combed through every camera that they possibly could to find the four of you.
‘Doctor! I found them.’ A voice from the far left called out.
‘Put them up on the screen.’ Dr Kim instructed, watching as the main screen on the wall lit up with a picture of you all walking through the empty high street.
‘That street... I know that street.’ Dr Kim mused. He turned to the guard on his left and barked an instruction. ‘You, go to y/n’s room and grab the papers on her bed.’
The guard left immediately, running down the corridor.
‘Send a zombie their way.’
The staff nodded in response to his request and watched as you turned to look at the zombie now watching you through the window. Dr Kim focused as Wooyoung pulled the gun up and shot it through the head immediately, not wasting a second.
‘They’re not afraid to kill anymore. They know that they’ll only wake the person up. I want them out of there as soon as possible.’
‘Do you want us to organise for them to die? Or to pull their pods out?’ One of the crew asked.
‘No.’ Dr Kim muttered. ‘They know too much, and there’s no guarantee that they won’t figure it out again. Fake memories are hard to create and even harder to make last, our best chance was putting the two of them into a relationship. If that didn’t work before it’s not worth wasting the time and resources to try and do it again.’
‘So, what should we do doctor?’ The same person questioned.
‘There’s only one answer really, they can’t leave. We have to make sure they turn. Push forwards the mutation of the virus. What stage are we at currently?’
‘Stage 3 out of 5.’ Another voice appeared from somewhere in the room, Dr Kim didn’t know and didn’t care where.
‘Mutate it. I want stage 5. Enable the virus to be transmitted through insects. If they get bitten by an infected mosquito, I want them infected, if they eat a vegetable grown near infected bugs in the soil, I want the disease to travel to the food, if they smell a flower pollinated by a bee, I want that bee to be infected and I want the virus to transmit to them. Understand?’
He looked around at the staff behind him, all of them shouting agreement with his plan and turning towards their computers to put it into action.
The guard appeared again, holding out the papers towards Dr Kim. The doctor practically ripped them out of his hands, rolling them out on the table in front of him. He pointed to one drawing in particular.
‘Look, they’ve planned their route.’ He could now see exactly the journey you were planning to take to reach the army base. He checked the screen and saw the mutated virus already starting to have effects. He smiled and turned to the staff in front of him. ‘What do you say we send a few old friends to break up the party?’
---
Wooyoung reacted before either you or Jeno could, pulling the gun into position and shooting a bullet straight into the zombie’s forehead. You watched as its body hit the ground with a dull thud.
‘Jesus.’ Wooyoung breathed. ‘I forgot how terrifying seeing one of those was.’
Jeno turned around where he was and sent Wooyoung a nod.
‘Yeah me too, thanks.’
Wooyoung shrugged it off.
‘Probably better for them right? I mean, they’re gonna wake up now.’
‘Yeah, you’re right’ You piped up. ‘We can’t be afraid to pull the trigger anymore. We know nothing bad is going to happen so just, aim for the head so that it’s quick and doesn’t leave them in pain.’
Jeno and Wooyoung nodded slowly. As well as the three of you knew what was waiting for you on the outside of the simulation, and that dying here was nothing to be afraid of, it was still difficult to pull that trigger.
‘We seriously need to move, we don’t want to stop if we can help it.’ Wooyoung said, hoisting the bag over his shoulder.
Jeno turned to you expectantly, waiting to see what direction you were going in.
‘Ok, from the routes I created, we need to head West from here. Luckily for us, there’s an almost direct path from where we are now, to the army base.’
You pointed in the direction you needed to head as you spoke, Wooyoung nodding in agreement. Having someone around who knew these areas would be incredibly useful.
The three of you set off, your hands firmly on your weapons as you began your trek to the army base. You walked all the way down the high street, crossing the empty roads to take other paths. You ensured that you always took the largest street possible, not wanting to meet a group of zombies in a tight alleyway.
All the minutes seemed to blur into one as you walked. Your mind began to wander and you thought of I.N. You wondered if he had gotten into trouble when they had found him alone in the pod room. You were scared that they were going to wipe his memories again, but you were even more afraid that they were going to hurt him. You hoped that he had stayed true to his word and that he was looking after Donghyuck’s sister. You were praying that she would be okay.
The tall buildings gradually began to shrink as you left the centre of the town you were dropped in. Jeno was a few steps ahead of the rest of you and Wooyoung, naturally walking at a faster pace. The silence between the three of you was getting louder with every step when suddenly, the low groan that you had not missed in the slightest, cut through. Your heart sank, out of annoyance rather than fear.
That annoyance quickly evolved into fear when you recognised the zombie leading the silent pack walking towards you.
It was Hongjoon.
Someone who had run the army base when you were there. He had offered you support before and after every run, he had been there to listen anytime you needed to talk. You knew he was someone who could be trusted.
But here he was. In front of you, stumbling forward as though he had no idea who you were.
Wooyoung didn’t move, his voice shaking slightly as he tried to talk.
‘Hyung?’
Hongjoon’s eyes shot towards his younger friend, opening slightly wider for a second, as if in recognition, before they turned back to you, narrowed, and he shot forwards. He moved like lightening, you only had a second to shout out before you were on the ground, underneath Hongjoon who was biting at you with everything he had.
Wooyoung pulled his gun into position and aimed at his friend’s head. He could hear your shouts as you pushed against the infected boy with all your might, yet he didn’t pull the trigger.
‘Wooyoung, shoot!’ You screamed. ‘It’s not real! Shoot!’
A shot rang out and Hongjoon collapsed on top of you. You rolled him off you and on to the ground and looked up. It wasn’t Wooyoung who had fired, it was Jeno. Jeno grabbed you by the hand and pulled you up. He turned to shoot an accusing look at Wooyoung, preparing to say something, but he was interrupted by the rest of the crowd of zombies breaking out into a run behind you.
The three of you took off. You tried leading the boys on your planned route to the army base but more zombies just appeared from that direction.
‘How are there so many all of a sudden?’ Jeno asked in between breaths.
‘I don’t know!’ You said, frustration bubbling up inside you. ‘It’s almost as if they’re spawning here.’ Then a sudden realisation dawned on you. ‘The lab must have found our plans. They know our route, we have to find another way.’
Jeno’s eyes widened in desperation, the both of you wracking your brains in an attempt to think of an escape plan. You hadn’t noticed that in an attempt to escape the undead hoard chasing you, you had circled back and were heading back into the main city.
Suddenly, Wooyoung’s voice rang out.
‘I know a way. Follow me.’
He sped up as he ran back into the streets of the city he knew. You and Jeno both followed, piling on the extra speed in order to keep up. You turned a sharp corner a few seconds after Wooyoung and found him attempting to open a manhole cover. Jeno crouched down next to him to help and, together, they lifted the metal cover off. It was on hinges so it should be easy to close after you.
‘You’ve gotta be kidding me.’ You groaned.
‘It’s either down here with a few rats, or out there with them.’ Wooyoung nodded in the direction of the zombies. Their footsteps getting dangerously loud.
You sighed, nodding in agreement. Wooyoung climbed in first and then Jeno held out a hand to offer you help.
‘No.’ You bluntly refused.
‘No? y/n I thought you said you were ok going in? We don’t have-’
‘Not that kind of no.’ You cut him off. ‘I’m going in, I’m just going in last.’
You could see Jeno was confused so you explained hurriedly, trying to keep your voice as steady and as hard as possible. But you didn’t quite manage to stop it form shaking.
‘The last time you offered to go last was at Mark’s and the next think I knew, I was watching you die. I don’t care if this is a simulation, I’m not risking it again.’
Jeno’s expression completely changed. He looked like he wanted to say something but Wooyoung voice travelled up from below before he could.
‘What the hell is taking you two so long? Don’t worry, I know these tunnels.’
Jeno swung his legs into the manhole, climbing down the ladder quickly. You waited until he was a few rungs down before lower yourself in too. You had just got your lower body in and you were reaching for the lid when the first zombie skidded around the corner. It let out a sort of yell, almost in triumph, and you slamming the cover shut over you. You bent yourself in half slightly, not being far enough down the ladder to close the top and stand up straight.
You thought that would be okay but the lid started to move up again and you got a glimpse of the zombie trying to open it.
‘Wooyoung! How do I shut this?’ You screamed down.
‘The wheel on the inside. Turn it!’ Wooyoung yelled back, the panic clear in his voice.
If you didn’t get this wheel locked it would be game over.
You tried to step down slightly, not being able to pull the door down with force at the angle you were standing. However, it was incredibly difficult as you had both your hands on the wheel above you. You placed another foot down, but this time you misjudged where the step was and slipped. You went down about two rungs, a yelp escaping you as you did so.
‘Y/n!’ Wooyoung screamed from the floor.
You felt a strong hand come up and grab the back of your thigh, steadying you.
‘You’re okay. Now, close it.’ Jeno’s words brought you right back down to earth and filled you with the strength you needed.
You gave the cover a powerful tug, yanking the wheel to the right as you did so. You kept both hands there, turning the wheel until you couldn’t physically turn it anymore. Eventually you stilled, your hands stopping their frantic movements.
You stood where you were, pausing just to catch your breath.
‘We’ve gotta keep moving.’ Wooyoung’s voice echoed up through the tunnel and you nodded.
You released the metal wheel above you, instead grabbing the ladder and lowering yourself down onto the floor.
‘Let’s go. I know a path into the woods, I’m pretty sure that it has an exit close to the army base.’
Wooyoung made to move off but Jeno’s hand shot out, grabbing him by the shoulder, stilling his movements.
‘Not so fast kiddo.’ He said, staring the shorter male down.
‘I’m older than you.’ Wooyoung muttered, his eyes facing the floor. Despite the fact that Wooyoung was older, it was obvious who had the power in this verbal exchange.
‘You didn’t take the shot.’ Jeno said, watching as Wooyoung swallowed. ‘You had a clear shot, you wouldn’t have hit y/n, but you didn’t take the shot. Instead you put her in danger, and in turn, endangering everything that we’re trying to do here. You know it’s not going harm them. Why didn’t you take the shot?’
‘I tried to. But he was still my friend. I was staring at the face of my friend. I know that he’s going to wake up, and that he’s probably better off dead than as one of those, but... I just didn’t think it would be that hard to pull the trigger. I’ve done it plenty of times. Hell, I even did it earlier today, but when I was looking into the eyes of someone I knew... I couldn’t do it.’
Jeno sighed deeply. You could tell that he understood where Wooyoung was coming from.
‘Ok.’ He said, Wooyoung looking up in shock at how fast Jeno moved on from it. ‘No one got hurt, and hopefully by taking this route we shouldn’t have to see anyone else.’
Wooyoung smiled thankfully, turning around and pointing down the tunnel.
‘It’s this way.’
And once again, you set off.
---
Your throat was dry, your legs ached and you were tired. You had been walking for hours and you were worried that it was going to be dark when you left the safety of these tunnels. Wooyoung wasn’t lying when he said that he knew them well, from the easy way he was guiding you through them, he had clearly spent a lot of time in them when he was younger. You had to admit that Wooyoung had made himself an invaluable member of your team. You really had no idea how you could have gotten this far without him.
As thankful as you were to everything Wooyoung had done so far, you had never loved him more than when he told you that you could stop walking. He approached the ladder in front of him, gently placing his hands on either side and whispering.
‘This is it.’
He climbed first, turning the wheel to unlock it at the top and wincing as it creaked loudly as he pushed it open. Wooyoung paused with it open slightly, listening for the tell tale noises of the undead, and then continued to open it completely.
You climbed out of the top, savouring the fresh air, pausing to listen for a guttural groan or ominous footsteps but, instead, you were greeted with a blissful silence.
Well, almost blissful.
‘Careful!’
A voice echoed through woods, a voice strangely familiar that caused both yours and Jeno’s head shoot up.
‘That sounded like Renjun.’ You whispered breathlessly, the thought of seeing your longest friend after what had felt like an eternity was almost alien to you.
‘I know. But it can’t have been him, he’s at the base.’ Jeno reasoned.
‘Jaemin, you ridiculously stupid moron.’ The voice appeared again, causing you and Jeno to share a smile.
‘No.’ Jeno’s eyes curved up into crescents. ‘That’s Renjun.’
‘Renjun!’ You shouted out, starting to jog towards where you had heard him before.
You didn’t get a reply, causing to you panic as an indescribable feeling of sadness took over you.
‘Renjun, it’s the grief. It can cause you to hear people when they’re not there.’
‘I’m not an idiot, San. I know my best friend’s voice.’
Your heart sped up again, warmth spreading throughout your entire body as you called out.
‘Renjun?’
This time you got a reply.
‘Y/n?’ You heard footsteps speed up, getting louder as they got closer to you. ‘Oh please be real, please be real, please be-’
Renjun turned into your line of vision, his words and movements stopping suddenly as he laid eyes on you. You smiled at him, tears starting to blur your vision.
‘Hi.’ You said.
That was all it took. Renjun threw himself forwards, pulling you in for the tightest hug you had ever felt in your life. You wrapped your arms around his shoulders and hugged him back, feeling his tears begin to wet your neck.
‘You’re real. I knew it, you’re real.’
His words got lost in a haze of disbelief and shock at the sight of you standing in front of him, alive.
He pulled away, cupping your hands with his face, wiping away the tears that had fallen. He just stared at you, utter amazement gracing his features. Then, finally, a smile broke out. The largest smile you had ever seen. He wrapped his arms back around your waist, pulling you around in a circle as he screamed happily into the air.
‘I was right!’
It was at this moment that Jeno, Jaemin and San also found their way to where you were. You pulled away from Renjun, staring at the two boys behind him as Renjun’s eyes locked on to Jeno. You stroked Renjun’s face one last time as you moved away. Renjun hit Jeno at full force, hugging him tight and bursting into tears again. You didn’t move, looking only at Jaemin. He was staring back at you, clearly not knowing what to say.
So you smiled.
‘Miss me?’ You asked, watching as Jaemin’s face broke out into a smile matching yours and he laughed with glee as he ran towards you. He picked you up in a hug, his laughter never stopping. You couldn’t help but laugh back. He put you down, finally managing to get some words out.
‘Oh god I missed you so much. You’re alive!’
You nodded, the smile on your face was starting to hurt but you couldn’t make it smaller even if you wanted to. You pulled away from him after a short while, allowing him to greet Jeno and you were left facing San.
San didn’t meet your eyes, instead choosing to stare at his feet.
‘San?’ You asked, hoping that he would at least look at you.
You could see the boy blinking rapidly, chewing on his bottom lip at the same time. Eventually you couldn’t take it anymore. You walked towards him and pulled him in for a hug. The second your hand made contact with his shoulder, San broke down, hugging you as tight as the others and whispering about how sorry he was.
‘Shhhhh, it wasn’t your fault. You did exactly what you should have done.’ You comforted him.
You pulled away sooner than you wanted to, but you knew he had to see Wooyoung.
‘I have a surprise for you.’ You said, smiling at him.
San sent you a teary but confused smile back, and you wordlessly grabbed his hand and turned him around.
Upon seeing Wooyoung, San moved faster than you had ever seen him move before. He shot towards the boy, Wooyoung moving forwards too as they reunited. Renjun appeared back at your shoulder, keeping an arm around you, as if to remind himself that you were really there.
‘I’m so happy you’re okay, but I have to ask, how?’
You shared a look with Jeno and called out to Wooyoung and San.
‘We’ll tell you on the way. It’s not an easy story.’
‘On the way? Wait where are you going?’ Jaemin asked, placing a hand on your chest to stop you moving.
‘Back to the army base.’ Jeno explained. ‘There’s something there that we need to do.’
Renjun and Jaemin shared a nervous look.
‘What’s happened?’ You asked, your hope diminishing by the second.
‘We’ve lost the army base.’ Renjun said bluntly. ‘People started turning from the inside, with no scratch, bite, or even contact with a zombie. It was as if it was in the air. Anyone who could abandoned the building immediately. Within under two hours it wasn’t safe anymore.’
‘Are you three the only ones who made it out?’ Wooyoung voiced the question you were too afraid to ask.
‘We don’t know.’ San chimed in. ‘The three of us left within a few seconds of each other. All we know is that we were the first out. If anyone got out after us, they can’t be far away.’
‘This isn’t part of the plan.’ You whispered, bringing your hand up to your head to rub your forehead.
‘What plan?’ Renjun asked, his eyes flickering between you and Jeno.
‘The plan. The plan that’s going to save us, to end this all.’ You rambled, not even fully sure of what you were saying.
‘End this all? Wait do you know how to stop the apocalypse?’ Jaemin asked.
‘There is no apocalypse!’ You exploded. ‘None of this is fucking real! It’s a damn simulation.’
‘A simulation...’ Renjun repeated.
‘Yes, a simulation. Aren’t the three of us proof enough that this can’t be real life. Jaemin, you shot me. In the head. How the fuck would I recover from that?’
Jaemin flinched at the reminder of your death. Jeno, noticing how your distressed state was unsettling others, tried to calm you down.
‘y/n, just breath for a minute ok?’
You whirled around.
‘No! Not okay. I’m so fucking done with this. How much hell have we been put through. I have killed people, and watched them been killed. I have lost friends, lost memories, left people behind, fought for my life and it still isn’t enough. When is this shit going to end? What more can they put me through?’
You turned towards the sky and screamed.
‘Fuck you! You hear that Dr Kim? Fuck you and your little experiment. I’m still finding a way to shut you down. Because you know what? I’m getting that happy ending. Cause after all the shit you’ve put me through, I fucking deserve it!’
You sat down, trying to catch your breath after your meltdown. You stared at the grass in front of you, ignoring the five sets of eyes watching your every move.
‘You went through something pretty rough on the outside didn’t you?’ Jaemin asked, assuming there was something more to your anger than what you had just learnt.
‘Yeah. It wasn’t easy.’ Jeno clarified. You were glad he didn’t go into more detail and even more glad that the boys didn’t ask for more.
You stood up, pulling your gun around to your front and took off.
‘Uhhh, y/n? Where are you going?’ Renjun asked.
‘To the army base.’ You declared. ‘I’m still shutting this thing down. Even if I had to do it alone.’
‘Who the hell said you were going to be doing it alone?’ Jeno’s words caused you to stop and turn around.
‘You’re coming with me?’
Jaemin shrugged, grabbing the pistol that Jeno offered him and beginning to walk towards you, the other boys all following.
‘Well, we started this together. Might as well end it that way to.’
---
The doors to the army base were open when you arrived. The wide gates were oddly unnerving, open gates were normally a symbol of welcoming, but this only reminded you of the gates to hell.
‘Remember, just get to the button and press it. That’s all we need to do so just focus on that.’ Jeno reminded you all. His voice was clear and steady, not a hint of fear in it. It was the voice of a true leader.
You stepped forward, ready to face whatever came at you.
---
You don’t know where it went so wrong.
Only you and Jeno were left alive and unbitten. The rest of you had been picked off one by one. They appeared out of nowhere, moved quickly and silently and were almost impossible to find. You had no idea what had made the zombies so dangerous all of a sudden. They had lost the slow paces of the previous kind, the fast bursts only maintained for a few seconds, and now had the agility of 20 year olds. It was as if they had retained the characteristics of the people they used to be. It was even harder to know that it was you friends picking you off just predators pick off the weakest member of the herd.
The two of you moved silently, aware of the moving shadows that signified the walking ghosts of your friends. You had only seen a few faces yet. You’d seen Chan, Changbin and Jongho as well as Mark and Chenle. It was seeing Mark and Chenle that was the most difficult, and in that minute you understood better than ever before, why Wooyoung couldn’t pull the trigger on Hongjoon.
A scream came from your left and you turned and blindly fired. You missed and watched as a figure you recognised to be Jaemin’s slunk back down the corridor.
You were only a few minutes away from the button, but at the pace you were moving, it would take you ages. You had to speed up. There was a door up ahead, one that was already open, as if it was awaiting the two of you. It only took one short shared look for the plan to be formed. You counted to three under your breath.
One
Two
Three
You threw yourself forwards, sprinting towards the open door as fast as you could, Jeno doing the same. Jeno reached the doorway before you did, and, as you cleared the distance, he slammed the door shut behind you.
You whirled around as you heard another loud bang on the door and saw Jeno pushing himself up against it to hold it in place. All of a sudden it made perfect sense as to why the door had been open.
It had no hinges.
The zombified bodies of your friends were pushing against it, clawing desperately to try and reach Jeno.
‘y/n, you have to go! Run now and find that button.’ Jeno’s voce was strained, all his energy being used to keep the door in place.
‘No, Jeno you have to go. You know the base better than I do.’ You reasoned.
‘Do you think I can go anywhere right now?’ He asked, pushing back on the door again as it began to budge. ‘Don’t be an idiot y/n, just go! I’ll hold them off for as long as I can.’
So you ran, you turned on your tail and sprinted down the hallway. You were pretty sure that you only had to get down this hallway, one set of stairs and one last door before you were at the button.
You were so close. Surely nothing could stop you now. All the zombies were upstairs, you had a free run.
You had just turned the second last corner of the corridor when you felt two hands grab your arm tightly and teeth quickly sank into the skin.
You let out a scream in pain, the zombie releasing your arm and stepping back from you, its work now done. You spun around and came face to face with the zombie who bit you.
Donghyuck.
Your heart stopped as you looked at the boy you loved. He stared back at you with no recognition, his eyes dull and his skin coloured with a sickening grey tine. You didn’t have time to mourn him. Your only hope was now getting to that button before you turned and forgot who you were. If you turned, all hope was lost and this would all have been for nothing. You knew from the last time you were bitten that you only had a few minutes, probably less if the doctors at the lab had mutated the virus. The pain in your upper arm was excruciating.
You stumbled forward, trying desperately to remember Jeno’s drawing of the army base layout. You turned a corner and came across a set of stairs, taking you down into the basement.
You took the first one, you vision starting to disappear as dark spots danced across the scene in front of you.
You took the fourth one. Focusing only on that button you had to do something with.
You landed at the bottom.
You stood there, not moving, confused beyond belief as to what you were doing. Why were you here? You had no reason to be at this level. You should be upstairs so that you could leave the base soon.
You turned around, away from the door in front of you. You looked up the stairs and saw Jeno. His eyes a cloudy white colour, and the veins across his arms and neck running black. Your eyes focused on a small black object behind him, however, something that was built into the wall, you had never noticed it before.
A camera.
You swung yourself around so that you were facing towards the door again. You knew what you were doing. You knew who you were. You knew what was behind that door.
You turned the handle, throwing yourself against it when it didn’t open. You banged the door with your shoulder, screaming in frustration when it refused to open.
You took a step back and lifted your foot. You kicked the door with all your force, relief flooding your system when it swung open. However, the momentum of the kick carried you through and you didn’t have the balance to keep yourself upright. You landed on your back, a sickening crack echoing off the walls as your head came in contact with the concrete floor.
You groaned in pain, recognising how your voice was sounding more and more like the undead’s. You summoned every bit of strength that you had and pulled yourself up so that you were on all fours.
You tucked your legs under you and pushed yourself up from the floor.
This was the room that Jeno was talking about. You vaguely registered a tunnel to the left, one that you assumed led out into the forest. And in front of you, only a few steps away, was an almost empty control panel with only one small button on it.
The entire room was spinning and your vision was getting darker by the second. You didn’t know if you had any strength left to continue forwards, holding on to the door to keep yourself upright. You head was pounding, your arm was throbbing and your heart was aching.
Your body was screaming at you with everything it had for you to stop, to give up, to rest. But you couldn’t. You couldn’t give up now. Not when you were so close.
You stepped forwards. You thought of Renjun. The boy who had never left your side since the day he met you. He was fiercely loyal, always prepared to do everything he could to protect the ones he loved. To protect you.
You stepped again. You thought of Jaemin. The boy who had saved your life more times than you cared to admit. He had diligently watched over you, cared for you and loved you when you couldn’t do it yourself. He wouldn’t hesitate to keep going. To rescue you.
You stepped once more, collapsing on the counter in front of you, the button in sight. You thought of Jeno. The boy who had been through exactly what you had and was the only one to know the true pain of it. He had protected you from more than you knew and you knew he would never stop protecting you. To shield you.
You pulled yourself up, the button within your reach. You thought of Donghyuck. The boy who you loved more than anything else in this world. The boy who you would do anything for. He was sunshine personified, always finding any way he could to make you happy and always ready to fight anything that had made you sad. There wasn’t a thing that he would not do for you. He would volunteer to go through hell and back a million times without even thinking about it. To save you.
You threw yourself forwards, the last thing you saw being the button spinning with the room as your vision disappeared completely. You brought your hand down in a final attempt to hit the kill switch, your brain only managing to register one final sound as your legs gave out completely and you blacked out.
Click.
---
The dull pain at the back of your head was the first thing you noticed. You tried opening your eyes, but your eyelids felt so heavy it was impossible. You gave up, trying instead to listen to the movement around you. You managed to register a woman’s voice somewhere in the haze.
You tried again to open your eyes, this time succeeding slightly. This prompted the woman watching over you to call for a nurse. You couldn’t see the nurse through the blurred slit of vision you had, but she had a soothing voice, one that radiated comfort.
‘Don’t overwork yourself y/n. You’ve been through quite an ordeal. Just take your time and you’ll be able to wake up.’
You took a deep breath, relaxing your eyelids so that they were fully shut, and tried again. Finally, you managed to open them all the way. The room gradually came into focus, and you saw that you were lying on your bed in your room at the lab. You saw the nurse next to you and your eyes widened.
‘This place- it’s not safe. It’s not what you think. We need to-’
The nurse put a hand on your shoulder, pushing your body back into the bed.
‘Calm down y/n, it’s okay. We know. A Yang Jeong-In called and explained the situation to us. At first, we were skeptical, but we sent an investigation over anyway. We owe you a great deal y/n. You’ve saved a lot of people.’
She smiled at you as you fell back into the pillows.
‘I didn’t do it alone.’ You insisted. ‘Wait, how long have I been asleep? How long was I in the simulation for.’
The nurse chuckled.
‘Don’t worry sweetheart. You haven’t lost a year of your life. In fact, it’s only just been around 30 hours since you went back in. You saved us in a day.’
‘Wait... it worked? We did it?’ You whispered, not quite believing that it was finally over.
‘You did it y/n. You’re safe now. In fact, your friends are also all awake. When you’re ready, you can come and see them.’
The nurse smile at you as you nodded. You began to sit up, but fell back immediately when the pain in your head flared up again. The nurse grabbed a pill and some water from your bedside table and handed them to you.
‘Here, take this. You took a nasty fall in the simulation and your body is convinced that it has concussion. Now since it didn’t really happen, you don’t, but it may hurt for a short while. This should help.’
You nodded absentmindedly as she spoke, purely obsessed with the thought of seeing your friends again.
You attempted to sit up again, this time with much more ease.
‘Wow, that worked fast.’ You commented, causing a light laugh from the nurse at your side.
She gave you a supporting hand as you climbed out of bed and stood up. You walked shakily over to the door, leaning on the frame slightly for support as the nurse opened it.
You headed outside, amazed by what you were greeted with. There were police, detectives and special investigators all over the scene. Dr Kim was sat in the lobby when you passed, in handcuffs and being read his rights. He looked up as you walked by, and if looks could kill, you would have been a pile of ash on the floor. But they couldn’t. So instead, you paused, held eye contact for a second and smiled before moving on.
You were finished with that.
Your nurse led you to the room that you recognised as the test centre. It was where all your skills had been testing once you left the simulation the first time.
‘The room has been cleared out and turned into a relaxing space. At the moment, we’re just using if for your group. We thought that since you saved all of us you deserved your own area.’
The genuine smile on the nurse’s face made you laugh in happiness. She turned the handle and pushed the door open.
‘I’ll leave you be.’ She whispered from behind, pulling it shut gently as you walked it.
The sight in front of you brought tears to your eyes. Jeno and Jaemin were collapsed next to each other of a sofa, looking at something on a phone in front of them, Chenle and Jisung were attempting to teach Renjun a sort of clapping game, Chan and I.N. were standing in the far corner chatting with Mark and a few others and San and Wooyoung were laughing at something over a box of pizza.
But the best sight of all, was right in front of you.
There, sat on the floor, his little sister curled up in his lap as he peppered little kisses all over her face, was Donghyuck. Alive and happy. He held he close, treasuring the fact that he got to have her back. He laughed at something she said, the sound reaching your heart immediately and you realised just how much you had missed him.
Renjun noticed you first. He had given up on learning whatever game Chenle and Jisung were trying to teach him and turned around, coming face to face with your smiling figure.
‘Look who it is!’ He announced, easily gaining the attention of the rest of the room. They all turned around to look at you, smiles breaking across all of their faces as they did so. ‘Our saving grace.’
‘Lets hear it for our hero!’ Jeno called out, causing the room to erupt in cheers, screams and claps as you stood there slightly awkwardly.
You looked at Hyuck again, this time finding him staring right back at you. His sister moved off his lap, allowing him to stand. The entire room was watching as he made his way towards you. He didn’t break stride, instead choosing to pull you in towards him for a hug. His arms wrapped tightly around your waist as he pressed you against his chest. Your arms moved up by themselves, finding their place behind his neck and holding on for dear life.
The hug got tighter and more desperate the longer it went on, Donghyuck holding onto you as if you slip away if he let go. Little did he know, you weren’t going anywhere. He mumbled out a few words, you only just managing to catch them because of how his face was buried into your neck.
‘I missed you.’
‘I missed you too.’ You whispered back, relieved to finally be back with him.
‘Don’t you guys think that you two are slightly beyond hugging?’ Renjun’s voice interrupted your moment, causing you both to turn and stare at him incredulously. ‘Come on! If this experience has taught us anything, surely it’s that time is precious and we shouldn’t waste it dancing around our feelings.’
As much as you loved Renjun, you had never wanted to hit him more than you did at that moment. You wanted to talk to Hyuck about your feelings but not in front of everyone and, now that the reality of that conversation was dawning on you, you were nervous for it.
Hyuck, on the other hand, seemed to ponder Renjun words before turning back to you.
‘You know, he has a point.’ He mused a cheeky smile on his face.
‘Hmmm?’ You hummed, not sure where he was going with this.
Donghyuck simply took a small breath before pulling you in again. He used his hands, that were still resting on your waist, you pull you in closer, and then moved on up to cup your face as he leaned it. You had about half a second to understand what was happening before his lips were on yours.
Donghyuck kissed you.
Finally, after all these years and struggles, you finally got to kiss the boy you loved. You kissed him back, shyly at first but, as with the hug, the emotions grew. Before you knew it you were pouring all the love you had for the boy into your kiss, praying that he would be able to feel it.
When you finally pulled away you stared into his eyes. You ignored the cheers and shouts of “finally” coming from your friends, only focusing on the boy in front of you. He gently tilted his head forwards, so that his forehead was pressed to yours.
‘I love you.’ He whispered.
‘I love you too.’ You replied, your voice as quiet as his, but your words just as powerful.
---
After a couple of hours, you and Hyuck eventually excused yourself from the rest of your friends, choosing to instead go back to your room and spend some time alone together. Hyuck’s sister had headed back to her room earlier, leaving just the two of you wandering the halls side by side.
‘You know.’ Hyuck grabbed your hand, lacing your fingers with his as he talked. ‘i always knew that, if any of us was gonna save the world, it would be you.’
You blushed.
‘I didn’t save the world... Besides, I don’t know why I’m getting all the credit! Without everyone in that room, we wouldn’t have done it.’
‘I know.’ Hyuck giggled. ‘But you’re still the one who pressed that button. And according to Jeno, you’re the one who figured out the truth as well. Let me just compliment you! I like being able to say that my girlfriend saved the world.’
You looked at him out of the corner of your eye, unable to stop the smile from spreading across your face.
‘Girlfriend?’ You questioned, watching as Hyuck began to get flustered.
‘Uhhh- I mean... we haven’t really had a chance to talk about it yet but... hopefully?’ He questioned, looking shyly at you.
‘Sounds perfect.’ You grinned, squeezing his hand that was in yours.
And for a minute, all was right with the world. Until two words cause Donghyuck to freeze where he was, terror consuming him.
‘You bastard!’ Donghyuck’s father came storming up to the two of you. ‘What gives you the right to act that way? Thinking you can treat me like that? I don’t care if it was in a simulation, you’re going to pay for that.’
Donghyuck’s father lifted up a fist, in an attempt to hit him, but Hyuck was faster. He pushed on the opposite shoulder on his father’s body and stepped back, watching as the momentum of his father’s punch threw his body around in a full circle. Donghyuck pushed you behind him slightly, wanting to protect you.
This action did not go unnoticed by his father, who tilted his head to the side, observing how you gripped his arm and how Donghyuck was shielding you.
‘Ohhhh.’ He realised, a wicked smile taking over his features. ‘So the two of you fell in love.’ The smile dropped off him completely. ‘How sweet. Maybe, if Donghyuck refuses to face the consequences of his actions, someone else could take the punishment for him.’
‘Back off!’ Donghyuck barked, moving you properly behind him. ‘You don’t touch her.’
‘Protective are we?’ His father teased but Hyuck didn’t reply. ‘What would you do to protect her? How far would you go? Would you shout at me? Would you threaten me? Would you hit me?’
His father had been circling Donghyuck all this time, trying to find the right moment to pounce. Only when you arm appeared around Donghyuck’s waist did he make his move. He lashed out with a harsh punch to Donghyuck’s shoulder, causing the boy to fall to the floor, and grabbed you holding you by the wrist with one hand and around the neck with the other.
‘I’ll kill you!’ Donghyuck screamed, losing his mind at the thought of his father hurting yet another person he loved. He stood up, preparing to charge at his father.
‘Take one step closer and I’ll cut off her air supply.’ His dad’s voice was quiet, no more theatrics or teases, just a pure, cold-blooded threat. Then his voice changed again, back into the taunting manner it was previously. ‘Or maybe I’ll just do it now.’ He began to push down slightly, making you swallow out of discomfort. He gradually pushed down more, making it increasingly difficult for you to breathe. ‘Maybe that will finally get you to throw a punch.’
Down the end of the corridor you recognised the police uniform, meaning that Donghyuck’s father had run out of time. You swung your foot underneath you, taking him by surprise and effectively ruining his balance. Hyuck took his chance while his father was out of it and pulled you back into the safety on his arms. He stroked the hair out of your face.
‘Are you okay?’ He asked, concern and guilt prominent on his features.
‘I’m okay.’ You reassured, falling back into his embrace.
‘You bitch!’ Donghyuck’s father roared and he prepared to throw himself at the two of you again. But this time he was met with the police. One officer tackled him immediately, forcing him to the ground as another secured his arms behind his back with a pair of handcuffs around his wrists.
You and Hyuck watched as he was arrested on suspicion of the murder of Donghyuck’s mother and multiple account of domestic, physical and verbal abuse. Just as he was being pulled up he look at Donghyuck one last time.
‘When will you be a man and learn how to throw a punch.’ He spat.
Hyuck stood up calmly, pulling you with him and keeping an arm around you at all times, but he never took his eyes off his father.
‘Being a man isn’t about being able to throw a punch. It’s about what you would take a punch for. I will never throw a punch, because I will never be like you. Goodbye father.’
You watched as Donghyuck’s father was dragged away in handcuffs. Only once he had disappeared around the corner did you turn to Hyuck.
‘I’m proud of you.’ You smiled slightly.
‘Thank you.’ Hyuck whispered, smiling back and placing a kiss on your forehead. ‘I have one favour to ask you though.’
‘Yeah?’ You looked up at him.
‘Can we go to bed? I’m exhausted.’ He said, watching as you burst into laughter at his mundane request.
‘Sure we can.’ You agreed, your body starting to agree with Hyuck.
---
You lay in your bed, your head on Donghyuck’s chest, his arms around you and your legs entwined. You’d been mindlessly chatting for the last few minutes but the conversation had since then drifted off into a comfortable silence.
‘I figured it out you know.’ Donghyuck informed you suddenly, causing you to look up at him from where you were laying.
‘What did you figure out?’ You asked, entertaining his antics.
‘That it wasn’t a real virus and that there were higher powers responsible for it. I figured it out first.’ His slightly smug yet still teasing voice brought a smile to your lips.
‘How did you do that?’ You were genuinely curious as to how he had come to this conclusion.
‘Remember? At the beginning, as soon as the virus broke out, I told you it was government created.’ Now the smugness was really coming through on his voice, showing how he was clearly enjoying this.
‘Go to sleep Hyuck.’ You chuckled.
‘I’m just saying.’ He whined, pulling his arms around you tighter.
You didn’t reply to that one, choosing instead to smile. You nuzzled further into Hyuck’s chest, relishing in the fact that you finally get to be close to him.
And that’s how you spent your first night of freedom. Curled up next to the boy you loved, with him whispering sweet nothings into your ear, all thoughts and dangers of the simulation far behind you.
Turns out you finally did get your happy ever after.

hey hey again :) im back for some general nsfw hcs for kure raian, gaolang, kanoh agito, andddd saw paing. how they are in bed, what positions like, aftercare,,,the works !! i hope this will be good practice 💕
Thank you for requesting! I hope you enjoy!!☺️
Also I’d really appreciate some feedback on my writing. I just want to know what everyone thinks and if I could get some constructive criticism! Also I kinda wanna write an Agito pegging scnario, lemme know if anyone what’s it 😫
WARNING! NSFW under the cut!
Raian-
• He’s rough. So very rough. Sex and fighting are in the same vein for him. Though he’s not as experienced in the bedroom as he is in the battlefield.
• He’s super loud too, he’d moan, groan, scream, but he’d mostly say dirty, nasty things in his partner’s ear.
• Pretty much every member of the Kure clan has a breeding kink, Raian is no exception. Once he gets really into it a lot of his dirty talk has to do with impregnating his S/O and filling them up with his cum.
• The though of his S/O’s belly swollen with his child makes him so very excited. He definitely lets his S/O know this as well.
• Raian can never be on bottom, it makes him so uncomfortable, he likes being in control and dominating everything he does. If his S/O wants dominate him then Raian has to trust them completely. If Raian and his S/O have been together a very long time and he loves and trusts them, he might consider it.
• Rarely ever goes down on his S/O, he only does it for anniversaries or after a really bad fight and he want to apologize. He’s extremely messy when eating out his partner, he’ll spit and grunt into his S/O and he won’t stop till his entire face is covered in juices and it’s dripping off his chin.
• Surprisingly Raian can be gentle, it’s very very rare though. He loves his S/O, there are moments were he can’t help but be soft with them. For example, let’s say his S/O gets badly injured, after they’ve healed for a while, Raian will be extra gentle with his partner. Not too gentle, but more gentle than usual.
• Another instance where Raian will be gentle is if he succeeds in impregnating his S/O, he’ll be extra soft, he doesn’t want to hurt his baby.
• Raian isn’t good at aftercare. He just doesn’t know what to do, he’ll normally just fall asleep right after sex. He’ll normally just pull his S/O into his arms and doze off, he doesn’t really care if his S/O needs to clean up.
• He’ll usually wake before his S/O in nights like these. He usually leaves a lot of bruises, bite marks, and marks all over his S/O. This is another moment where gentle Raian comes out, he’ll run his fingers softly over his partner’s injuries, a part of him feels bad. He’ll do this until they wake up. If they try to tease him about it he’ll deny doing anything.
Gaolang-
• Gaolang is a very gentle lover. He enjoys making Sweet gentle love with his beloved S/O. He has a pretty low sex drive, but making love with Gaolang is a whole performance, he’ll break out the candles, rose petals, soft music, and massage oils. He wants it to be perfect.
• He wants every time he has intercourse with his S/O to be memorable and important, he tries to outdo himself every time.
• Gaolang doesn’t sleep with just anyone, it takes a lot of love, time, and trust for him to even consider having sex with a person.
• Gaolang is almost silent during intercourse, save for some pants and breathy moans. He lets his hairs down as well, he looks very pretty.
• He always makes sure his S/O finishes before him, he’ll even edge himself. He always puts his lover first. He wants to show his partner how much he loves them physically, so lots and lots of body worship.
• Because Gaolang is quite inexperienced, he’s awkwardly asked King Rama for some advice. And oh boy Rama has Delivered. King Rama has given him expensive toys, Lubricant and different tips and tricks. Gaolang is quite shy about these things so he just kinda hides them away. too embarrassed to try them on his partner and himself but also doesn’t want to throw them away, so they stay in the bottom of a drawer collecting dust.
• that is until his partner, of course, stumbles across his small collection of sex toys and questions him on it. Gaolang’s face is probably the most red it’s ever been as he stumbles over his words trying to explain himself.
• For Gaolang’s first anaversary with his beloved, King Rama gifted the couple with a copy of the Kama Sutra.
• Aftercare with Gaolang is very important. He needs to know if they’re okay, if he wasn’t too rough, or if they enjoyed themselves and are satisfied. If they need to, he’ll run a nice warm bath. Afterwards, He wants to hold his lover in his arms and kiss their lips goodnight, then sleep with them in his arms.
Agito-
• Agito is very inexperienced, but with his S/O’s guidance he’d be one of the best lovers. He’s a blank canvas and He’s eager and excited to learn how satisfy his partner and himself.
• Just like Gaolang, it takes a lot of love, time, and trust to sleep with Agito, he needs to love and trust someone completely before having sex with them.
• Agito is a switch, he enjoys both dominating and being dominated. It all depends on his partner and his mood. He’d want to try out a lot of kinks and positions, he doesn’t quite know what he enjoys yet but with his S/O guidance he’s eager to learn.
• Agito likes bing called good boy and bad boy, he’ll misbehave on purpose just to get punished. he loves being praised by his S/O, complementing him or even just praising him will drive him wild.
• he doesn’t make too much noise. He’ll just grunt and pant and say his S/O’s name. He only really makes some noise if he being too overstimulated or when he cums after being edged for a painfully long time.
• Agito would be into some bondage. He loves leather, latex, rubber, and different kind of fetish outfits, on both himself and his S/O. He’d put on a fashion show for his S/O, especially when he’s in the mood to be the center of attention.
• Agito enjoys using toys, on both himself and his lover. Vibrators, dildos, massagers, beads, he wants to try everything.
• Agito would let himself get pegged. In fact he’d probably be the one to suggest it. This is another way to make Agito make some beautiful noises. He gets really embarrassed and he’ll try to muffle his sounds in the pillows. when getting pegged Agito will tear up and blush hard. It’s feels too good, of course he’ll want it again.
• if his Formless style come out, he gets very rough and he’d dominate his S/O hard. He’d pin their arms above their head and thrust relentlessly into them. This is one of the few times where Agito gets really rough. He’d never do anything to harm his S/O, but they won’t be walking for a few days.
• Another time Agito would get rough is before and after matches. There’s just so much tension built up, if his S/O show just a little too much skin or if they tease him a little too much, he’ll swiftly pin them down and ravage them. Then he’ll kiss their forehead and head to his fight or pick them up to head to the showers.
• the majority of the time Agito is very loving, even when he’s dominating his S/O or when he submits himself to them. After care is very important, when intercourse is over and both he and his partner are fulfilled, he always brings them into his arms and kisses his lover. His heart would melt if they did the same thing. Agito loves getting his forehead kissed and his face caressed with his lovers hands.
Saw Paing-
• when Saw Paing and his partner have sex everyone in their vicinity knows. Saw Paing is so damn loud, he moans, screams, and says all kinds of nasty things during the act. No one sleeps. The next day is always awkward and Saw Paing and his partner get teased a lot for it.
• That being said, The only way to get him to be quiet is when his mouth is occupied like if he’s going down on his S/O or if he’s gagged. Yoroizuka Sanemitsu has probably shunned Saw Paing and his S/O to go bang in the woods so the whole village doesn’t have to suffer.
• Saw Paing is rough in a loving way, everything he does is energetic and wild, sex is no exception. His thrusts are aggressive, but he’s very loving in the bedroom. He’s always caressing his S/O’s face, kissing their face and neck, and always calling his S/O hot and beautiful.
• He always is telling his S/O about how good they’re making him feel or how sexy they are. He wants his partner to know how amazing they are.
• He likes positions where he can hug and kiss his S/O without too much work. He also likes positions where he can put his face in his S/O’s chest.
• Surprisingly Saw Paing isn’t always so wild. For example sleepy morning sex when he’s groggy and all he can think about is getting His S/O and himself off. All he can do is lazily thrust into his S/O and moan their name.
• Saw Paing is also very gentle during anniversaries and special days. Nothing changes too much, just his pace is a little slower, he really wants to savor his time with his S/O and wants it to last as long as possible.
• Saw Paing is very vanilla, he probably doesn’t even know what kinks are. He’s pretty inexperienced. He’ll try out anything his S/O wants, however he’ll never hit, choke, or spank his S/O, EVER. No matter how much his S/O begs him too, he just can’t bring himself to do it.
• Saw Paing eats out his S/O like it’s his last meal on earth. He goes hard and he enjoys it so much. When it comes to oral he prefers to give rather than receive.
• Aftercare is his favorite, he likes it almost as much as the sex. Sweaty loving cuddles with his favorite person, where he can kiss their lips and forehead and fall asleep in their arms, he loves it.

Imagine getting a panic attack in the middle of Potion’s class with Professor Snape
Request: Could you you do a Snape x Reader fic where someone fucks up in his class and it just caught him on a bad day so that launches him on a rampage and he's just chewing this kid out, like really screaming about how incompetent they are when on the other side of the class reader starts having a massive panic attack. Like full on shaking and loudly hyperventilating and she just cant get up to leave cause she's frozen with fear and Snape sees this and is like oh shit I fucked up. Eventually the student just leaves the class not even asking first. Just runs out and doesn't return, leaving him feeling horrible until the student finally returns to class a few days later and he apologizes.
Word Count: 1689
A/N: Thank you @aquananner24 for the request! I hope you enjoy! Also, as mentioned previously, I don’t do romantic or platonic student/teacher relationships so this is NOT a pairing. I also changed the plot a bit and I also made the reader a Hufflepuff, but the idea is still the same. Also also, thought I’d try something a little different this time so this is mostly in Sev’s POV written in third person.
- Preposterous was the only word that could truly sum up this year’s events. How could Dumbledore pick this buffoon over him to teach Defense? All these years he’d been passed over on the position, he’d watched Professor after Professor fail at their post but this had to be the biggest insult yet. Severus had actually ‘taught’ (and he had to use that word loosely) this idiot prancing around as if he was some heroic Wizard to be praised for deeds he likely never had a hand in completing.
- Gilderoy Lockhart. What a joke and perhaps that’s what this was; a practical joke the Headmaster had decided to play to see how many of Severus’ buttons he could press. It was bad enough the Dark Lord’s return had almost come to pass last year, but this- petrified students and a reopening of the Chamber of Secrets, had Severus truly believing the mere presence of the Potter boy to be a menace to the school.
- Already the school had broken into chaos and he wasn’t sure if he would live to see the boy’s graduation at this rate, the school sure to explode from the destruction he brought with him before then. It was a shame the boy hadn’t been sorted into Slytherin, else all of this would likely have been avoided with him back with that wench Petunia after his inevitable expulsion.
- Despite it all, Severus had still managed to fulfill his job as Potions Master, teaching those ungrateful ingrates and keep the storeroom stocked in the infirmary. But would one day break from the chaos really be too much to ask? Just 24 hours of peace was all he wanted.
- “Put away your wands and have your quills ready,” he said as he burst through the Potion’s classroom, billowing his way to the front of the room. At least the boy wasn’t in his morning class, at least he could be granted some sort of serenity teaching his Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff students.
- Well, that’s what he’d thought before stepping into a classroom full of nothing but gossip passed from one student to the next. Rumours always seemed to spread so easily through the castle walls but why this? Of all the ridiculous theories they could have come up with students had somehow convinced himself that Potter was the descendant of Slytherin himself. The mere thought of his father having any sort of relation to a man that founded this great school was repulsive enough to put him in an even worse mood than he was in these last few weeks.
- “Have you gone deaf or are you simply incapable of following the simplest of instructions Miss. Lovegood?” He hadn’t even bothered to spin around as he spotted the girl with the latest edition of the Quibbler in her hand in the corner of his eye. With one foul swoop he finished writing out the instructions for today’s potion before whipping out his wand and vanishing the Magazine from her hand. “Quills out! I won’t ask a second time!”
- He normally didn’t mind the girl’s absurd theories, so long as they remained just that, simple unfounded theories, but it seemed as though today she’d decided to approach things a little different. The class had barely begun brewing their potions when he heard mention of moon frogs coming from Lovegood’s direction.
- “Despite your clear interest in fiction over the study of a perfected science, I still expect you able enough to remove your head from the cloud of your imagination for two hours and learn something useful! Or perhaps you find stories of fairytail creatures fascinating enough that you believe spewing this nonsense would earn you a passing grade in my class. Should I call Hagrid or perhaps the ministry to investigate this seemingly newfound knowledge you’ve discovered?”
- Severus felt himself letting go of his frustrations, taking it all out on this girl who really hadn’t done anything to deserve such a scolding. Sure, she was quirky and odd, but when had that ever been a crime? If it was, he certainly would have been guilty of it at her age and if anyone were to see what he’d done with the spare bedroom in his house without context, filling it with all those jars full of animal parts, they certainly would have freak out at the very least.
- Still he continued to batter her, regrettable words spilling out of his mouth and the more they bounced off her, the more irritable he became. And despite his harsh words, the girl simply sat there batting her eyes as if his comments were nothing more than passing criticism.
- He was normally so observant, always aware of his students and their display of idiocy, but in this moment of rage and outburst, he’d let himself go. He’d forgotten for a moment where he stood and neglected to realize one of his Hufflepuffs beginning to hyperventilate as he continued lecturing Miss. Moon-Frogs on her inability to attach herself to the real world.
- “What is the meaning of this?” He snapped as he stepped towards the Hufflepuff sitting in the farthest corner of the room. She was tearing up, crying as if she’d just watched him rip out her puppy’s heart and he couldn’t fathom what could have possibly warranted such a reaction when the entire class was doing nothing but watch his outburst the last few minutes.
- He tried to shift his attention to her, but the second he turned in her direction, she’d sprung up from her seat as though if he got any closer to her, she’d instantly retract Dragon Pox. He watched her tremble and stumble over herself as she struggled to see through her tears and sprint out the door.
- He froze a moment, taken a bit by surprise. After all these years of sarcastic comments and strict mannerisms, never had one of his student’s walked out of his class before.
- “Get back to work,” he blurted out as he made his way to the door, running after her. “I expect all your potions to be near completion when I return.”
- He didn’t have to travel very far before catching up with her, finding her bundled on the floor into a ball as she hugged her knees, sobbing with her head hung low. Examining her shacking body and trembling hands, he began to feel a sense of familiarity as he realized she’d had a panic attack during class, likely triggered by something. It only took him a short moment to fit all the pieces together and realized that he’d been the cause of this. This girl’s current state was his own doing.
- Guilt seeped into his chest as he recalled his own past traumas. How he’d used to wake up in the middle of the night, shacking from the reoccurring night terrors that had only passed after he’d worked relentlessly night after night and strengthened the Sleepless Dream Potion.
- Approaching her slowly, he kept a safe distance as he lowered himself, kneeling on the stone floor, trying to think of any way he could possibly repent his mistakes.
- “Miss. (Y/L/N),” he spoke softly, careful not to worsen the situation. Closing his eyes, he thought back to his own time huddled into a corner as she had done now and spoke the words he’d hoped someone had said to him at that time. “I apologize for my behaviour. I should not have lost my composure as I did, and I apologize for that.”
- Pausing, he let out a gentle sigh as he ran his fingers through his hair and swiftly stood to quickly make his way back to his classroom.
- You’d only heard the faint echo of his footsteps as he walked away from you, surprised at the fact he’d left you alone when you’d fully expected him to throw some of those nasty comments he was handing Loony Lovegood your way. Your mind went blank as you sat there in silence, ridding you of the old memories your Professor had raised.
- His sudden calmness had somehow snapped you back to reality as thoughts of curiosity overwhelmed you instead. You hugged your knees closer to your chest while you watched through the corner of your eyes as he returned to you, kneeling before you like he’d previously done.
- “Calming Draught,” he stated, and you heard the sound of a glass vial placed on the stone floor beside you. “And Sleepless Dream if you find yourself up tonight.”
- He placed the second vial beside the first as he sat there watching her peer down at his offering. Her tears had stopped but it was clear she was not yet prepared to return to class.
- Deciding the best thing for her was to give her time, he prepared himself to head back into the classroom without her, taking one last glance at the girl before speaking once more. “When you’re ready, I trust you can find your way to your Head of House. When you see her, hand her this.”
- And with that, he slid a small folded note towards her containing the explanation for her state, her Potions Professor taking complete responsibility for the situation and mention of excusing the rest of the day’s classes. He swiftly made his way back to his classroom, looking back to see her slowly reach out for the Calming Draught, secretly content he hadn’t completely failed his duties as a Professor.
- Severus was careful from that day on with his temper, taking a small sip of Calming Draught before class if he ever found that bubble in his gut about to burst again. And by the looks of how this year was turning out, he was likely to need a lot more of it if he wanted to get through the year without poisoning a certain irritable Professor. Then again, would the world really miss another failed Defense Professor if he was to be replaced again next year?

Continental winds from the north take up their arms as the long daylight hours wane, and drive out the last of summer’s oppressive heat. As cooler air follows behind, signs of the vibrant harvest season bloom across Fodlan. Hunting dogs pull eagerly at their leashes, scythes are taken down to reap golden fields, and celebration rises in feasting to give thanks for another bountiful year.
The students and faculty sent out on the investigations of the Relic rumors have now returned to Garreg Mach, and life is once more back to normal. The students of the Blue Lions house do not get to rest long, however, as the Church has a new mission for them... The Five Great Lords of the Roundtable have received a threat to the relic Thyrsus’ safety. Aware of the situation surrounding the Relics in the previous moon, they have made a formal request for aid to protect one of the Alliance’s most sacred treasures. In spite of the Alliance’s Founding Day celebrations, the Blue Lions of Faerghus find themselves packing up for a trip to Gloucester territory...
Blue Lions Mission: Protect the Thyrsus!
We are back on our regular season rotation, and this one belongs to the Blue Lions! As before, threads using tasks from the Blue Lions board must contain a Blue Lions character as a participant, but there are also non-mission tasks available to everyone without restrictions.
It soon occurs to everyone involved that sending the Blue Lions during a time when the Alliance celebrates its independence from Faerghus is a gaffe at best and a serious insult at worst. The prideful lords outwardly take the assistance in stride, but in private you are all relegated to heavy labor and busywork in preparation for the festivities, far from the Thyrsus you're supposed to be protecting. It might be more tolerable if it wasn't for this feeling that the lords somehow blame you for the mixup, and not the schmoozing cardinal that arranged the mission in the first place...
BL Mission Task Board
Dozens of lords coming into the Gloucester Estate means dozens of horses that need to be stabled up and taken care of for as long as their owners are here. The tedious task of taking care of these animals has, unsurprisingly, been dropped on your lap. This morning, shortly after putting out some horses to pasture, a Demonic Beast attacks. You’re able to fend it off, but the horses have fled in the confusion. Hopefully you can round them all up before their owners begin to miss them…
A personal invitation has been extended to Lord Acheron, fulfilling what rumors say is a political favor. You have the distinct honor of escorting him and his elderly aunt to the festivities. Remember to nod and smile. [grants Heavy Armor +1]
This year, House Gloucester holds the distinct honor of hosting the Crescent Moon Ball, the formal ball meant for celebrating the Alliance's Founding Day this moon. Dress up and observe the latest fashion trends, schmooze like the good little nobles you are, and hit up the local hotties. You might get some information about the Alliance’s Relics for your trouble...
Tourney time! Leicester takes pride in their own brand of knighthood and chivalry. The Horsebow Moon has always been a prime time for archery competitions and jousting. Try your hand at the games, and show off your skill with a bow! [grants Bow +1]
Part of training to be a young Alliance noble is participating in mock roundtable meetings, and the three-day event this year is made even more exciting by the presence of students from backgrounds outside of the usual big names in nobility. According to Golden Deer students, the script is the same every year, and you prepare to state your facts for and against declaring war on Almyra. Yet when the meeting begins... you discover that the topic is actually about separating from the Kingdom. Bullshit your way through it and try not to offend anyone.
NEW! You’re given the bad news with the typical aristocratic tact: it would be prudent to recuse yourselves from the investigations as they are carried out. That is to say, that many of the Alliance knights won’t allow you to enter the Gloucester mansion to see the crime scene for yourselves. It seems like not everyone got the memo, though, as a pair of greenhorn knights seem willing to escort you inside. They’re suspicious, but if you act like you’re suppose to be here hopefully they’ll let it slide. [grants Authority +1]
NEW! Your investigations bring you to the hunting forests, sitting on the border between the counties of Gloucester and Riegan. As you make your way through the murky forest, pushing your way past overgrown brush and hedge, you spot a brilliant red light gleaming in the darkness. When you approach, you recognize Thyrsus... but see no hand that holds it. Moving under its own power, it fires a potent Ragnarok spell over your heads. Well.... unfortunately there hasn’t been a “Combat Against Flying Weapons” elective for you to take. You’ll have to improvise as you go! [grants Any Weapon +1]
Non-Mission Task Board
It’s time for the seasonal fishing tournament! This year, however, it seems a strange mixture of fish has been added to the pond. Why do these fish have teeth!? And why does this one give off an electrical shock!? Some anglers might find this just an exciting change to the ordinarily boring tournament, but others might feel they need to investigate the sabotage... Or perhaps YOU’RE the one who dumped these exotic fish in the pond. [grants Axe +1]
Legend has it, any who chance to sit beneath the boughs of the old willow tree at the far back of the courtyard fall subject to a curious charm: they find their tongues tied if they should attempt to speak a lie, and they find themselves compelled to obey any instruction given them by another party, no matter how silly or untoward. Most sensible students diligently avoid this tree lest they find themselves put under its spell, but some braver souls take up a seat - after all, it’s the perfect place for a high stakes game of truth or dare. Is the legend true, however, or is it merely a matter of vain pride? [grants Reason +1]
A new trend has swept over Garreg Mach in these early autumn days of the Horsebow Moon. Various notes have been springing up around campus. Some claim to be looking for love. Others simply want to yell into the void about a frustrating assignment they’ve been given. And yet others might bemoan the presence of ghosts in the monastery’s halls… The letters are many and varied. The one thing they have in common is the fact they are all anonymous, and there is an implicit understanding that discretion is required to play the game. Will you take up a mystery pen pal?
The students return to the monastery with some answers, but more questions than ever before. What information you manage to uncover is swiftly censured by the Church as they continue to formulate their response on this matter. For those who live their lives pursuing knowledge, it’s time to bust into the restricted sections of the library and really start looking for the answers you deserve.
NEW! You spot a new, unsigned flyer tacked onto the school bulletin board, “Assistance Needed. Battle prowess required. All interested parties, please meet with me at the back of the marketplace.” You meet with a tall, cloaked figure with dark-lensed spectacles and white hair peeking out of his hood. He can’t introduce himself, but he at least elaborates on his mission. You are to travel to an abandoned quarry in Faerghus and gather a bag’s worth of Nepenthe Ore. Of course, there’s a catch: a large spider-like automaton guards the quarry, frightening away intruders with strange noises and a powerful beam of concentrated magic. No one knows who built it, but regardless you’ll need to figure out a way to get past it.
NEW! A small flight of wild wyverns have roosted in the mountains nearby, resting before their next leg in their journey to their wintering grounds in the east. You could observe them from a safe distance and take notes on wyvern behavior and social interactions... but that’s some nerd shit. You’ve heard stories of knights leaping onto the backs of wild stallions and taming them with sheer grit and determination. Would that philosophy work on a wyvern? It’s on you to find out! [grants Flying +1]
NEW! Each and every class of students has upheld the time-honored tradition of organizing a “House Prank” to pull on their beloved faculty members, and your class will be no different. With the stress and excitement of the upcoming Battle of the Eagle and Lion palpable in the air, it’d be good to get a little harmless mischief in and have some fun. At your professor’s expense, of course.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does the divided task board work?
This season’s mission is assigned to the Blue Lions. Therefore, tasks from the ‘BL Mission Task Board’ must be undertaken by someone that is affiliated with the Blue Lions.
Tasks from the ‘Non-Mission Task Board’ have no house restriction and can be undertaken by anyone.
These aren’t the only threads I can do, right?
Of course not! These are just prompts to help give some ideas of possibilities. You’re always free and encouraged to make up your own threads. You’re also more than welcome to worldbuild on your own, using these prompts as a base.
How do I claim the skill points?
In order to qualify for the skill point, the thread must clearly allude to the listed task and preferably feature the task being completed; however, the point can still be claimed even if your muses narratively fail the task (failure is sometimes just as fun to write as success, after all). You do not need to message the masterlist to claim your skill point.
Can I only do one task?
Nope, you can do as many as you’d like with as many different partners as you’d like! You can do the same task with more than one person! However, you can only claim the skill point for each task once.
What if my partner leaves or drops a skill point thread?
If the dropped thread has at least 2 notes (not counting likes, only reblogs with replies in them) and you have hit at least 400 words on your end, you may still claim the skill point.
Remember to use (and track!) the #toa open tag for any open threads, and you can also post a link to your open thread on the appropriate Discord channel! If you have any other questions or concerns, shoot us a message through the masterlist or on Discord!

Katsuki’s backlog of military pension from the Imperial Homeworld arrives thirteen cycles after he’d finally settled on a newly minted colony outpost in Wild Space. He’d given more than twenty years of his life to the Empire and its glory and they still half-ass his retirement.
Fucking figures. Useless bureaucracy as always.
His pension landed with a dropship of shipments from a nearby space station. Katsuki half expected some kind of parade of medals and acclaims, and enough credits lining his bank account to tide him over for several generations, because Bakugou Katsuki is a goddamn war hero. He’d carried more than his weight in battle and had fought on the frontline of the Empire’s wars since he learned how to carry a gun and shoot a man at eleven on one of the Empire’s offshoot colonies.
He’s a soldier through and through, and he’d paid his dues. It’s now their turn.
What actually steps out of ship is neither some fanciful rewards or some official congratulating on his overdue retirement, but a young man with curls of green hair that reminds him of an overgrown bush and the greenest pair of eyes to match. He even got freckles dusting his face and decked out in gleaming gemstones that covered his ears, hands, neck, and wrists. He is a walking treasury of the Empire, wearing a thin long flowy dressrobe too flimsy and delicate for the kind of harsh climate in CAPU VI, and his long hair is pinned up with a flower ornamental headpiece dyed in crimson colors.
Their eyes meet and Katsuki’s pension dip his eyes as his cheeks stained a soft hue of pink. “Colonel Bakugou,” he says, lowering his head and his long lashes dipping with deference. “I’ve come on the behest of the Empire as a reward for your honorable service and duty to the Imperial Homeworld.”
Katsuki drags his hand down his face and groans as Kaminari whistles appreciatively next to him. “Oh Merciful Thane, they got you a courtesan as your pension,” he says, barely containing his amusement. “What were they even thinking?!”
“Those fucking nutjobs,” Katsuki grumbles.
Courtesan. A fancy nomer for the flowers of the Core Worlds. Genetically engineered humans with spliced genes from various plants, they're bred and raised to be the companion of the elites. Docile, submissive, and blindingly loyal to their master; they're worse than actual pets.
Katsuki crossed path with a few of them in the past through public functions pushed by the Imperial's propaganda machine, because someone got to nicely package war to the ignorance mass. All the courtesans he'd previously encountered were all pretty smiles, well mannered, and soft spoken. They were so goddamn perfect in presentation that it was like talking to an empty headed doll. It had grinded his gears then and it still grinds his gears now. What the fuck is Katsuki even supposed to do with some artificial created flower doll?
Sheltered in the cradle of the Core Worlds, these courtesan certainly never know the meaning of starvation, never dirty their hands in a hard day of work, and certainly had never step foot on some far flung planet and told to survive they must fight and kill the enemies in front of them.
Katsuki had worked his ass off to be able to finally retired deep in Wild Space, far from the Empire's reach, so he can live a life away from the bloodshed and deaths of war after having endured it enough to last several lifetimes.
But, of course the Empire continues to fuck him over even now.
He gazes at the Empire's last fuck you to him, brows pinching in thought. Shipping him back would be an annoyance, too many toes he would have stepped on, but worth it.
The courtesan gives him a tentative smile under the intense scrutiny. Cool. Professional. And just downright perfect. "I'm Izuku from the Misty Rain Teahouse," he introduces himself.
Misty Rain, a famous teahouse that had train some of the best courtesans in the galaxy and Izuku is one of theirs. At least the Empire is not that much of a stingy ass autocracy to skimp out on his pension even if their gift is completely useless and inconvenience to him in this part of space.
"I don't care what the fuck your name is or where you came from," Katsuki says with narrowed eyes, "because you're going hop right back on that damn ship. I don't have time to take care of some pamper pet trying to warm my bed when this hellhole of planet is going to fuck me sideways if I'm not careful."
Izuku flinches, but holds his head high and shoulders firm. "I--," his cheeks redden as he clear his throat, "I'm not here to be just your b-bed partner, Colonel Bakugou. I'm to be your husband. You made an acquisition for a spouse with the VA and I'm here to fulfill it."
A beat of deathly silence, then, "what?" Katsuki demands with an outraged hiss.
Kaminari's brows shoot up to hairline at that revelation. "Sol's galactic balls, they sent you an equivalent of a mail order bride!" He clutches his stomach, and laughs and laughs like the idea is so absurd it got to be some sort of a joke. "I didn't think you were that lonely to be in a need of a spouse, Bakugou."
Katsuki's eyes flashes toward Kaminari and he smacks him at the back of his head for the trouble. "Shut your fucking mouth before I stapled it shut," he threatens.
Kaminari just grins and mines zipping his mouth in the face of Katsuki's glare and fury. "Aye, aye, sir," he says with a lazy salute that makes Katsuki bristle. They’re out of uniform, but doesn’t mean Kaminari can be indolent with his manners.
Katsuki consider throwing him in the compactor for his casual insubordination, but he's shorts on extra hands at his ranch and Kaminari when he's not speaking is actually a good engineer. He sighs, and turns back to the other problem at hand, who is sparing him a hopeful smile.
Katsuki rakes a hand through his hair furiously, before biting the bullet. "Look, I didn't make any formal request for a spouse," he tells Izuku. "So you can go back and tell those fuckers that they had made a mistake. I wanted my pension in credits at least and not a damn bedwarmer."
"B-but," Izuku's green go wide with hurt, "I got your signature here right here, sir." He pulls up a holocron page on his wrist and there's a digital footprint of Katsuki's signature on it. "You signed the paperwork so we're officially married under the Empire's purview."
Katsuki’s jaw locks, hands curling at his side as a windswept murderous rage set in. He thinks of that boy orphaned by war, who had learned how to wield a gun and shoot a man down long before he even knew the warmth of another home; his hands are uncleaned.
Twenty years. Twenty fucking years that he had let them strung him up like a toy soldier so he can bleed on foreign soil countless time, spearheaded invasions, and waged wars for the Empire's ambition that had left him half mad and lost in a sea of the ghost of his compatriots.
He was done. Done with their damning blood wars. Never again will he played into their hands. The day after they had pinned another the medal of honor on his chest, he'd sent in his retirement papers and that was that. Only thirty years old, but he was already a veteran of hundreds of wars.
It only took watching a friend get shot way too many times, that there's no honor or glory in burying the dead and having to grip the hand of someone you had slept and fought side by side with as they breathed their last breath. Katsuki was tired of it all. Losing and losing and losing, even when he had come out of each battle unscathed. Using the blood money they had given him and had accumulated over the years, he bought several acres of land and within a year he managed to carve a life for himself here in the Wild Space.
He'd never consider that escaping from the Empire's machination would even remotely entrap him with a damn husband for a spy later.
"I don't need or want you, so fuck off!" Katsuki spits out. This man before him reeks of the Empire's ploy to have him fall back into their grip. He would foolish to assume that once he hung up his guns and assumed a civilian identity that they would just leave him the fuck alone. He’s too good of a soldier to be ever truly let loose in society.
Once a dog of war, always a dog of war.
"I'll double whatever they'd paid you to be here,” Katsuki continues to offer with a glower.
Izuku blinks, taken back his sharp words as hurt flashes across his face, but he swiftly recovers with a steady voice that had been practice a million times before. "Colonel Bakugou, it is of great privilege to be able to serve you,” he says, the words flowing out of him easy and true. “You are not only a hero of the Empire, but the hero, the White Wolf, who had ravaged Epsilon VX and saved the Citadel from the Anrhon." He drops his gaze to the ground. "I was chosen specifically as reward for all your accolades. I deeply apologize that you do not find me to your taste or use."
Kaminari jabs him in the side with his sharp elbow. "Couldn't you be more considerate?" he hisses. "You're going to make him cry!"
Katsuki turns to him and glares. "I fucking didn't ask for him or any of this! I just want those fuckers at HQ to leave me the fuck alone." He switches his attention back to the new baggage that was dropped in his lap unceremonly and finds him hunch over, eyes still downcast, and so out of place at this shitty spaceport with all expensive jewelries and clothes. And fuck.
He sighs, dragging a hand down his face at this entire fucked up fiasco.
Izuku jerks his head up suddenly. "If General Bakugou wish for me to leave, I would," he starts, voice hesitant and wary, "but as the next transport shuttle won't depart to the core worlds till next quarter, I cannot leave yet."
Katsuki groans in defeat, because what the fuck.
When he'd chosen this quadrant of the in the outer rims, Wild Space, because he had wanted to put as much distance from the reaches of the Empire as possible and this part of space is harsh and still mostly untamed. It takes the Empire too much manpower to maintain control of the independent colonies this far off the rim. And very few seek to settle on this last frontier of the galaxy where raiders, slavers, and the worst kind of people make their home here. The colonists that landed here either has no other choice left or they're just plain mad. Katsuki is neither, because he's very good with a gun and he always like a challenge.
It's much easier to find shuttles that take the passengers here then is it to find one that is willing to take them back, because very few does. The outer rims will chew you up and spit you out all wrong and fucked up that you become unrecognizable. This place is not made for pretty, delicate flowers like Izuku. "Fine, fucking fine," he growls out, frustration thickening his voice. He's not that much of an asshole to leave his not-spouse stranded and alone in this hellhole. "You can stay with me for now. Temporary until I figure what to do with you." He scowls. "But as soon as the next shuttle arrived, you're going to drag your ass on that ship and never come back here, do you hear me?"
Izuku lights up, eyes bright as his hands clasped together. "Thank you, thank you so much, sir. I will not drag you down and will work hard to earn my bedding and food."
"So," Kaminari muses, "you got a free labor and companionship for an entire three months. Fun times ahead."
Katsuki’s scowl deepens. "Fun my ass." He rolls his eyes. "Come on, get your luggage and throw it in Kaminari's hovercar. We're heading back to my ranch and it's a long and bumpy ride hed."
Izuku shuffles forward hopefully. "Yes, sir." Then, he stops and winces. "My luggages are quite a lot. I'm sorry that it might be a tight squeeze in the hovercar for all three of us."
Katsuki snorts. "It’s fine. I didn't come here with him on the hovercar anyway. I have my own ride."
He prefers to travel around on his cy-bike anyway. It's faster, smaller, and his. Less chance of other people riding along, because he hates having passengers on his bike anyway.
"Oh," Izuku breathes, his eyes widening with delight and curiosity, "I've never been on a cy-bike before." He looks hopefully at Katsuki. "May I ride with you, general?"
Katsuki's brow twitches as Kaminari snickers beside him at the audacity of this sheltered flower from the core worlds. Suicidal or mad, he thinks in annoyance, these are the people that chose to come here. Izuku might be both. Sol, the boy is both. "You," he points at Izuku, then to himself with narrowed and skeptical eyes, "want to ride with me."
"Yes." Izuku nods eagerly. "May I? I promise to behave!"
Katsuki rubs his throbbing forehead and sighs. "I don't take passenger," he says, "and especially when you're wearing that." He gestures to Izuku – to the delicate, fine silk skirt of his long dressrobe that swamped his person. "It's going to tear into the fabric and you're going to be upset about your ruined clothes."
Izuku looks down at his chosen attire, frowns, and then with no hesitation he bends down, reaches for his skirt and tears right into it. His hands pull taught at the material like a fine knife cutting through water. Seamless, clean, it goes all the way around him till whatever remains is a very, very short skirt that hang loose mid-thigh, making him look like one of those port hookers ready to drop their clothes for ten credits.
A treasured courtesan, raised in the core worlds with all its luxury and wealth, had ripped his overprice damn robe in front of them with no shame. "Will that do?" Izuku asks earnestly, holding the piece of fabric he had torn in his grip. "Or should I make it even shorter?"
Kaminari makes a scandalized sound next to him that sound like dying horine. "Fine, you win," Katsuki drawls out, mostly exasperated but also slightly impressed. This shittyass galaxy that had made children into soldiers and soldiers into monsters, he wouldn’t surprise if the flower before him will also grow some teeth one day.
Honestly, fuck them all. Clearly, Izuku has no intention to give him any peace or quiet in the next several months that he’s stuck here with Katsuki.

How to Handle a Nico 10
Primary Pairing: NicoMaki Words: ~2.6k Rating: G Time Frame: Maki is a surgeon. Nico is working as an idol producer. They are living together as a happily married couple.
Author’s Note: A bunch of cobbled together headcanons that I hope to someday expand upon and turn into full scenes in their own right, just like the rest of the numbered chapters. This one was inspired by VNVdarkangel’s fiception story about Egao Jōshō, to which I will link in the followup post.
“Nico Nico Ni~!” Nico sang as soon as she entered the room.
“Nico Nico Ni~!” An excited group of children sang in return, mimicking the twin-tailed idol’s signature gesture.
“Someone’s as popular as ever with the kids.” Tsubasa murmured to a redhead beside her, just loud enough to ensure Nico could hear.
“That’s because she is still like a kid.” Maki replied in a similar volume.
Nico resisted gritting her teeth and maintained her smile as she continued to greet the audience. The small room was packed from wall to wall with inpatient children, some in wheelchairs and one in a gurney. All were ready for a brief respite from their routines of surgeries, treatments, therapies and whatever else was being done to help them recover. Several attending staff members were also present as well as a handful of parents or other family members.
“Thank you for that wonderful greeting!” Nico cheered. “Now let’s all thank the woman who continues to ensure these concerts can occur; the amazingly adorable Dr. Maki-chan!” She swung her arms around in an exaggerated manner to indicate the woman beside her.
“Thank you, Dr. Maki-chan!” the children turned their attention to the named redhead.
“N-Nico-chan…” Maki protested quietly, unable to resist a blooming blush across her cheeks as she bowed in acknowledgement of the thanks.
Well, that was sufficient revenge against Maki. Nico then decided to leave getting back at Tsubasa for later. For now, she had a concert to run.
Nico took the single step up onto the raised section at the front of the room. It was an area small enough that her old school idol group, µ’s, would have barely fit with enough room to dance in place and have been hard pressed to perform larger scale choreography. Still, a stage was a stage, and Nico lived for every moment upon one. Likewise, an audience was an audience, and Nico’s heart pounded in anticipation as she turned to face a small sea of smiling faces.
Tsubasa gave a quick countdown with her fingers from her position at the karaoke machine and the moment she hit Play, the concert began.
By the gods, the thrill never faded. Nico threw herself into her performance with the same passion as when she had shared the stage with µ’s. It didn’t matter that she had been doing this for years. It didn’t matter that she could only dedicate a woefully small fraction of her time to the stage as her primary duties were to run her company. It didn’t matter that the high majority of the idols currently contracted with her company were around a decade younger than her. Nico was born to perform and would always give everything she had to her fans. Even if her fanbase eventually shrunk to just one person…
One fan…
There had been a couple times in her life that Nico had believed she had lost her entire fanbase; that she was hopelessly lost as an idol. The second half of her first and the entirety of her second year in high school, she had stewed alone in the clubroom, growing more bitter and jaded with each passing day. But the fiery passions within her had been reignited when she joined µ’s in her third year. It was in that group that she found a fiery redhead who captured her attention and became someone whose attention she sought in return.
Nico’s gaze found the redhead, no longer an idol, but now a doctor, leaning casually against the doorframe, ready to slip away swiftly and stealthily should some situation arise somewhere in the hospital. Maki, her wife and by far and away her favorite fan.
Maki was there the second time Nico thought she had lost it all, when the fact that the two were dating became a scandal that ended her solo idol career. Nozomi, Eli and the rest of her friends did their best to show Nico that she wasn’t alone this time, but looking back, Nico knew little of it would have mattered if she had lost Maki then. But she didn’t. Maki remained by her side, supporting her however she could and regularly reminding her of her duties as an idol; making people smile, even if just one person.
Also, years ago, in a rare moment of utter openness, Maki had admitted that when Nico was in the audience, she was the only one that mattered. Certainly, Maki loved sharing her music with others, especially those close to her. In fact, it was for this reason that she didn’t put up resistance when Honoka continued to insist on having Christmas reunions at the Nishikino home, even years after everyone had graduated. However, everyone else seemed to disappear if Nico was around as Maki had come to enjoy the attention Nico paid her. And as time went by, she started to crave it.
Nico hadn’t really thought about things in the same way Maki had explained them, but she realized that she held a similar sentiment. As much as Nico loved the lights, the cameras, the crowd, the cheers, the giddy and giggling girls anxiously awaiting autographs, it all paled in comparison to the attention and adoration of one fan. And the fact that Maki felt the same in return made it all the better.
Enthusiastic applause and cheers filled the room as the final song of the set came to an end, bringing Nico back to reality from the euphoric trance her performance had induced within her. She bowed and thanked the audience before relinquishing the stage to another raven-haired woman.
The younger idol was one who had taken Egao’s college program that allowed her to take classes alongside beginning her career as an idol. Recently, she had earned her degree and thus fulfilled her parents’ requirements. Immediately, she signed a full-time contract and dived headlong into the world of idols with a passion rivaling the likes of Egao’s founding members. This of course included active participation in the company’s volunteer program as often as possible, like today’s concert.
Nico made her way toward her wife while the stage behind her was set ablaze by the intensity of the performance.
“Another good show.” Maki said quietly so as not to distract from the idol on stage.
Nico offered a grateful smile before turning her back to the wall, leaning into her wife and resting her head on the taller woman’s shoulder.
“You’re definitely doing your duty as an idol, today, Nico-chan.” Maki continued, surprising Nico by sliding her hand into hers and intertwining their fingers. “Just look at all those smiles.” She smiled as well as she gazed fondly at the room as a whole. “You know, some days I believe this program does more good for these kids than all of the PT and treatments combined.”
Nico chuckled. “I dunno, I may sing my heart out up there, but I can’t mend a broken bone or treat any sort of disease, unlike my marvelous Maki-chan.”
“But you help ease the stress of the whole ordeal of being in a hospital as a child. I don’t think we’ll ever be able to definitively quantify the amount of improvements made. But there is no doubt that this makes a difference.” She squeezed her wife’s hand. “You make a difference. And I can’t thank you enough for keeping this project running.”
Nico decided to let Maki have the last point and offered her a hand squeeze in return. Sure, it had originally been Nico’s idea to start holding concerts in the Nishikino hospital, but the project would have never gotten off the ground had it not been for Maki.
Well, spinoff project, really. Egao’s volunteer program predated the production company itself. It all started with a request from Hanayo for Nico to help an overextended Rin. The orange-haired young woman had been working an internship position at a local school and was recognized by the fledgling idol group there. Though Rin wasn’t the type to complain about it, Hanayo was sensitive to the stress caused by trying to maintain a classwork, an internship and help a newly formed school idol group.
Nico, who was spending most of her days then awaiting approvals and licensing for this and that to get Egao up and running, had more free time to lend assistance to the group. Then Hanayo made a few appearances after her classes. Soon after, Tsubasa, Erena and Anju took time out of their schedules as well. Everyone involved had so much fun working with the up and coming idols that they quickly agreed with Nico’s idea to turn it into one of the cornerstones of Egao’s business philosophies.
Thus, the Pro Bono Schola Idoli project began. Just as lawyers in many areas were expected to put in so many hours a month for clients unable to pay normal rates, so too would Egao expect their employees to assist the next generations of idols. The project grew to include all areas, from pushing past trouble points in song writing to reviewing choreography, as well as donating materials for costume creation or making connections to secure areas for live performances. Naturally, the idols were expected to do the bulk of the work themselves, but quite often, even something as simple as receiving praise, criticism and advice from professionals was enough to boost moral for many groups.
It was through this program that Egao earned much of its notoriety in the industry and Nico began to worry about having enough volunteers to fill the incoming requests. But, much to her delight, such a situation rarely came to pass. In fact, after a couple years, the project began being mentioned by new hires and contractors as being a reason for their desire to work with Egao. And of course, with that level of popularity, other companies began to take notice and slowly, ever so slowly, started rolling out similar programs of their own, though to nowhere near a degree as Egao.
But a live idol performance in a hospital? Maki’s father had been right in saying the idea was utterly ridiculous. What had they been thinking all those years ago?
It was for the fans. Everything was always for the fans. Keep them smiling, even when, or perhaps especially when they were lying in a gurney, awaiting their terminal illness to take its final toll…
Jizenka… An amazing artist and avid fan. The first concert had been for her and had intended to be a special, onetime-only thing.
But news spread fast, and soon a nurse approached Maki about another young fan. And then another request came in. And then one for A-RISE. Then another. And another.
Nico heard from both Maki and Miyuki, the hospital’s head administrative assistant, about the heated debates among senior hospital staff as the concerts began to increase in frequency. Surprisingly, it was Maki’s father that ended up fighting the hardest to allow the concerts to continue. Through it all, he maintained his distaste for the genre of idol music but became unwavering in his position that the positive results he was seeing outweighed the potential disruptions. Certainly, it helped that all involved took extra precautions to minimalize such possible disruptions to normal hospital functions.
Eventually, and unsurprisingly, perpetual private performances proved to be unsustainable. Maki initially attempted to secure occasional use for the hospital’s auditorium, but that area wasn’t the most accessible for some patients, specifically those needing to remain in bed; the room wasn’t designed with gurneys in mind, after all.
Nico couldn’t remember who originally made the suggestion, but as the high majority of the patients attending the concerts were children, constructing a small addition to the children’s wing ended up being the best solution. The project was funded in full by generous donations from grateful parents with the excess being donated to children’s medical research. A dedicated area with full hospital level access, yet outside both general and emergency traffic paths and was an easy green light to be given by the paternal Dr. Nishikino.
Once the auditorium was built, it didn’t take long for other companies to take interest and the possibility of other, non-idol genres of productions started to become a reality. However, with two performances a week dedicated to the genre, the idols remained the most popular. Maki designated Egao as the point of contact for scheduling events and Nico maintained the position that all events would be free to those attending. Parents or others wishing to provide monetary compensation were asked instead to donate the sum to a designated list of charities, just like the excess funds from building the auditorium.
“Excuse me, Yazawa-san.” A woman said, her voice barely audible above the joyous cries of adoration as the second performer concluded her set and allowed the women of A-RISE to take the stage.
“Nico is fine.” The idol producer replied with a smile, turning toward the other woman.
“The nurse said we couldn’t buy tickets…”
Nico nodded. “That’s right, these events are free for patients and a limited number of their guests, courtesy of Egao Jōshō and the Nishikino hospital.”
A familiar expression crossed the woman’s face, one Nico had seen hundreds of times before. “My son has been a big fan of the girl who was just on stage and he was overjoyed to learn that she would be coming this week. Are you sure there is nothing I can offer, payment for an autograph or something?”
A card entered Nico’s field of vision. “Here is a list of medical charities.” She heard her wife explain. “Whatever price you believe would be appropriate, we ask that you donate that sum to one of them.”
“Thanks, Maki-chan.” Nico flashed a grin at the redhead. “Also,” she turned her attention back to the parent “if your son has any merchandise with him, we’ll be sure he gets it signed by his favorite idol. If he doesn’t have an item, we have plenty of paper.”
“Thank you.” The woman said, seeming to be holding back tears. “Truly, thank you.” With that, she bowed and made her way back to where her son sat in a wheelchair, barely having noticed her absence as his attention was held exclusively by the continuing performance on stage.
“You keep your own supply of cards now?” Nico couldn’t help murmuring to her wife.
“Of course.” Maki replied. “Your idol outfits don’t typically come with pockets.”
“True…” Nico returned to her prior position of leaning into Maki. “Say, Maki-chan, how much time do you have left before you have to go back?”
“I can stay until the end, unless some emergency happens, of course. Why?”
“Nico is starting to get hungry and now wants to have lunch with her favoritest Maki-chan before we both head back to work.”
“Oh… I’d… be alright with that…”
Nico giggled quietly, not having to look up to know the expression on the taller woman’s face. After a moment, she knelt to retrieve her phone.
No1Idol: I’m stealing Maki-chan for an early lunch
ByōinKasan: Roger that
ByōinKasan: Have fun you two
Nico smiled at the swift response from Miyuki. There was always the chance that Maki could end up being called back for something major, but at least this way, all minor things could be redirected to other staff or asked to wait a little while.
As the final song of the concert came to an end, Nico grabbed Maki’s hand. “C’mon. Let’s go.”
“Alright.” Maki replied, allowing herself to be led into the hall. But after a couple steps, she paused. “Ne, Nico-chan…”
“Mmm?” Nico turned as she felt resistance.
“I…” Maki glanced around, likely to ensure a lack of witnesses. “I love you.”
“I know.” Nico resisted the urge to tease her wife about her behavior. Sneaking in a quick statement like that before the hall was to be filled with people exiting the auditorium wasn’t quite as public a display as Nico liked to do herself, but for someone like Maki, it still meant a lot. “I love you too, Maki-chan.”
With their routine completed, the couple continued toward their destination of a shared lunch break.

“But if I have to beat you into submission, I will. I don’t care who sees, or what they think.” He looks up at Levi, all eyelashes and thick eyebrows. “I will break you.”
The sharp smack of the back of Erwin’s hand connecting with Levi’s cheek resonates throughout the stables. He hits him so hard that Levi is knocked off his feet, sprawling awkwardly across the dirt. He whirls around to look at Erwin, baring his teeth. “Fuck you!” he spits.
Erwin stalks towards him. His hands are balled up into fists at his sides – ready and deadly like any other weapon. “You need to learn some manners.”
“Fuck you,” Levi repeats. His insult is met by a swift hit to the side of his head by Erwin’s shin. He falls back, his head connecting hard against the ground. He can hear a collective gasp from the other trainees, and Furlan and Isabel shouting his name.
Levi barely has time to spit onto the ground before Erwin swoops down to grab him by the collar of his uniform and yank him up to his feet. He holds him just above the ground like a mother cat carrying her young around by the scruff.
Levi bares his teeth at the man, kicking out at him with his legs. Who the fuck does he think he is? He’s convinced that Erwin just likes to take any chance to smack him around like a punching bag. All Levi did was be a little rude to his training officer. It’s not like he even really wants to be here. Perhaps Erwin is trying to prove something, although Levi’s not sure what or to whom. Is he concerned about his position within the Corps? Or perhaps he just does it for fun. Perhaps he just hates me.
Levi wanted to kill Erwin before, but now he really wants to kill him. If it wasn’t practically a death wish, he would take him on right here, right now.
But no. He’ll wait. He’s going to take his time killing Erwin Smith, and he’s going to enjoy it.
Erwin and Levi stare each other down; fierce grey eyes meeting piercing blue. The tension is palpable, and no one says a word or so much as twitches until, finally, Erwin throws Levi back down. Levi stumbles a little, trying to regain his balance. He balls up his fists, fingernails digging almost-painfully into his palms. They continue to stare.
It’s not like Levi can exactly fight back and give it all he’s got right now. Surely not with Mike right behind him, constantly sniffing up Erwin’s ass like some kind of lapdog. He thinks back to Mike’s hand forcing his head into that disgusting puddle. Maybe he’ll make him watch Erwin die, and then kill him after, too.
Erwin’s thick eyebrows furrow. The disdain in his gaze is obvious. “I expect you in my office after training,” he says, and then he turns on the heel of his boot and retreats back towards the office building. Mike follows closely behind, throwing a “Get back to it!” over his shoulder.
As soon as Erwin is completely out of sight, Isabel and Furlan run up to Levi, ready to make a fuss. Levi shrugs them off, though. He’s far too pissed off to even talk to his friends right now. He goes back to his horse and reaches up to stroke the side of her neck. Stay calm. Don’t ruin everything you’ve been working up to.
While everyone else heads to the mess hall for dinner, Levi makes his way to Erwin’s office. Isabel had given him a sad look and promised to save him some of her dinner. Such bullshit that he has to miss out for whatever ridiculousness Erwin has planned. He knocks heavily on the door and waits outside with his hands clasped behind his back. He knows Erwin is in there – he can hear him talking on the other side of the door. He’s left to wait outside for far too long for his liking. He starts to pace outside of the office, painfully impatient.
He’s about to give up and just leave, reluctance obedience be damned, when the door swings open and he’s finally face to face with Erwin. “Levi,” he says, stepping aside. “Come in.”
Levi supresses an annoyed grumble and steps inside the threshold of Erwin’s office. It’s a rather spacious office, almost impressively so. There are a couple of chairs in front of a desk, and a God-ugly rug spread on the wooden floorboards. Mike is leaning against a bookshelf with his arms crossed. The sneer he gives Levi is almost laughable to him.
Erwin strides swiftly past Levi and back to his desk, sitting down at the chair. He folds his hands in front of him neatly and they both stare each other down in silence. Slowly, one of Erwin’s eyebrows lifts. What the fuck does he want from me?
They stare at each other for a while. It’s like some sort of weird standoff. Levi refuses to be the first one to act. As it seems, so does Erwin.
Finally, Mike sighs heavily. “Salute, trainee,” he snaps.
Begrudgingly, Levi stands up straight and slaps his fist against his chest. “Sir,” he says, simply.
Erwin leans back in his chair, crossing his legs on the way. “Levi,” he replies, just as curtly. He has this strange sort of coolness to him. His devil-may-care attitude is downright unappealing, but Levi guesses that’s probably the exact reason why so many people trust him as a captain. Half of the idiots here would die for him in a heartbeat, and it makes Levi sick.
“At ease, Levi,” Erwin commands. He doesn’t take his eyes off of Levi, and he’s half convinced that he doesn’t even blink. Is he trying to be intimidating? “Mike, you can leave us alone.”
Mike leaves without a word, but Levi can feel his glare boring a hole into his back. Glare away, asshole.
Erwin is silent until the door closes behind Mike. He gestures in front of him. “Sit.”
Levi obeys. The chair creaks under his weight, but it’s sturdy. He’s determined to remain non-committal and as distant as possible, but he tosses up between obedience and just being downright rude.
“You need to learn to trust me, Levi.”
“What reason do I have to trust you?” Levi challenges. He guesses he’ll go for something in-between. He slips down into his chair and brings one foot up to rest on the seat. Finally comfortable, he tilts his head back. “What choice do I have, even?”
Erwin huffs out a laugh. “I suppose you don’t really have a choice,” he agrees. He leans forwards, serious. “Trust the Survey Corps – and more importantly, me – or spend the rest of your life imprisoned.”
“I wonder which would be worse.”
Erwin laughs for real at that, leaning back again. “A true dilemma, indeed,” he says. “We all end up the same in the end. Why not use your incredible talents for the good of humanity?”
Levi stays silent. He’d be lying if he said he didn’t feel a bit of a thrill from being a member of the Survey Corps. Even after getting his citizenship – and, providing that he doesn’t get caught or prosecuted for killing Erwin – he sometimes thinks that maybe it wouldn’t be so bad to stay. He has way more potential than anyone else in the Corps, that’s for sure.
It’s nice to feel useful and powerful. He supposes that’s why his life underground felt generally fulfilling to him.
“You’re talented, Levi. More so than anyone else here,” Erwin tells him. “I know this, and you haven’t even faced a real titan yet. I really hope that you can learn to trust me. I know that it won’t happen overnight, but I do know that we will make a great team someday.”
Levi furrows his brows. “You want me to trust you,” he says slowly, “and yet you kick me around in front of everyone.”
“Above all else, you need to learn obedience.” Erwin says it like it’s obvious. “Don’t you think that the best way to teach someone obedience to beat it into them?” He pauses, looking up and directly into Levi’s eyes. “Especially when they’re as difficult as you.”
“You’re sadistic,” Levi hisses.
“That, I am.”
In that moment, there’s a tentative knock at the door. Erwin makes a delighted sound and stands up. “Come in,” he calls.
A small trainee with blonde hair opens the door and peeks her head in. “Um, I brought your dinner for you, Mr. Smith, sir,” she says timidly.
“Excellent.” Erwin approaches her and takes a platter out of her hands. “Thank you.”
She salutes and leaves without a word. The military has always creeped Levi out. He wonders what Erwin has done to earn her salute and her trust.
Erwin sets a shitty metal plate holding a bowl of soup, a small loaf of bread, and a couple of steamed potatoes in front of Levi. “Eat with me,” he requests. Or, it sounds like a request, but Levi knows it’s an order. He sets his own dinner down at his side of the desk and sits back down. He passes Levi a knife, fork, and spoon.
Levi regards the cutlery. The knife is blunt and essentially useless. He flicks his gaze back up to Erwin, who is already digging into his bread and soup. Could he kill him right here, right now? Just leap over the desk and jab the fork into his neck.
He’d probably be killed on the spot if he even tried and failed. Or, maybe not. Erwin seems like the kind of sick fuck who would still try to keep him around, anyway. For the sake of humanity. That’s always been his reasoning for wanting Levi to work under him.
Levi may hate his guts, but at least his intentions seem decent enough. It’s almost a shame.
Although, he’s not sure what the consequences of killing Erwin could be. There’s no one like him, that’s for sure. Everyone says that Erwin’s tactical abilities are some of the best, and he’s a natural-born leader. They all seem to think that Erwin is humanity’s only hope right now. And maybe under different circumstances, Levi might, too.
Ripping into his bread, Levi shakes the thought out of his head. Isabel and Furlan’s citizenships and wellbeing are more important to him than Erwin’s life ever will be. They’re his family. They will always come first, and they deserve a comfortable life on the surface.
Erwin and Levi eat quietly, and a little awkwardly. While Levi is avoiding eye contact, he takes a look around the office. It’s nice, he guesses, but fuck. He can see the dust in the air, and he doesn’t even want to think about the possible disarray inside Erwin’s desk drawers. If he wasn’t so starving, he would be completely put off his dinner.
When he looks back at Erwin, he’s looking right at him. It’s downright creepy, but if that’s how he wants to do thing, Levi is more than happy to oblige. He stuffs bread into his mouth and stares right back at him. What is he looking at? If he’s expecting Levi to say something, then he’s sorely mistaken. He’ll sit there and stare at him all night if he has to. He’ll never deny that he isn’t a stubborn man.
If Erwin is going to lead Levi straight to his death, then he’s not going to just let it happen without a fight.
Erwin knows this.
Erwin puts his spoon down softly in his half empty soup bowl. “Do you want to know what I think?”
Levi takes a bite out of one of his potatoes. “Not really,” he says, chewing while he talks. It’s gross and rude, but he’ll do anything to cement the fact that he won’t completely submit to Erwin – even in petty shit like this.
Erwin goes on anyway. “I think you’re smarter than everyone thinks you are. And you’re better than everyone thinks you are, too,” he tells him. “You’re better than those two friends of yours, who will only hold you back.” Levi bristles at that and opens his mouth to snap back at him, but Erwin quickly continues. “And maybe you’re even too good for me.”
He leans forwards, fire and determination in his eyes. “But I’m your only option for survival right now. You’re just too much work for anyone else to want to deal with, even if you are unbelievably skilled.”
Levi scoffs. He really is full of back-and-forths. How exhausting. “Am I supposed to be flattered or insulted?”
“I don’t care. You really have no choice, so I’m not interested in flattery. Or insults, for that matter.” Erwin folds his arms. “But if I have to beat you into submission, I will. I don’t care who sees, or what they think.” He looks up at Levi, all eyelashes and thick eyebrows. “I will break you.”
Levi can’t help but shudder at that. For some reason, he completely believes him. He won’t give up so easily, but he is certain that Erwin will do whatever it takes to make sure he submits. He stays silent at that and finishes off his final potato. A tiny voice in the back of his mind wonders if perhaps it wouldn’t be too bad to submit completely to Erwin. Almost cringing, Levi shoves that voice further back. Absolutely not.
Erwin, satisfied at Levi’s reaction (or lack thereof), goes back to eating like nothing happened. Levi slowly puts his cutlery back on the plate.
For some reason, and for the first, Erwin’s words are affecting him. I will break you. He’s already broken – it’s hard not to be, with the life he’s had – but Erwin will find a way to break him even more, eventually, and he has no doubts about that. It’s unnerving.
Levi decides that while Erwin Smith might be all charisma, piercing blue eyes, and jawlines; he’s also evil. That’s probably why he’s made it this far.
“Are we done?” Levi asks.
“Sure,” Erwin replies. He sets his cutlery down. “I expect you back here first thing in the morning, though. We have a lot of work to do.”
Supressing the urge to roll his eyes, Levi nods and stands up. “Yes, sir.” He salutes half heartedly and turns to leave swiftly. He sees a hint of Erwin’s smile.
Once the door is shut behind him, Levi heaves a sigh. He takes his time walking back to the barracks, mulling everything over.
On one hand, Erwin Smith is his ticket to a comfortable life within the walls. If he just gets his job done, he can disappear with Furlan and Isabel. Open a tea shop or something, and finally live comfortably.
But on the other hand…
Some part of him sees potential in Erwin and their proposed partnership; and an even sicker part of him is already starting to respect him, in some way. He may be a lot of things (annoying, relentless to the point where it’s almost pathetic, and incredibly fake), but he’s certainly ambitious. Rightfully so, as well.
I will break you.
A voice inside of Levi hisses; not if I break you first.

Humbled - Silas & James
Who: Silas Lynn (@subsilask ) and James Beiste ( @jamie-beiste)
What: Bingo - Hair Pulling - Humbler
Where: The Lynn Suite
When: 9/8
Jamie
Jamie was quite excited to work with Silas. He was excited because the humbler was a piece of D/s hardware that had fascinated him for quite some time. He was also excited because while they'd participated in some small bits of scenes, he'd never worked on a full-fledged scene with Silas. He had requested and been granted use of one of the school's scene work labs. "Shall we begin?"
Kirin
Silas knelt naked before Jamie and took a deep breath and nodded, then quickly realized that nodding wasn't going to work. "Oh. Yes Sorry, sir I was nodding. Yes...I'm oddly excited? I"ve never tried on of these before but I think I like the idea of them?"
Jamie
Jamie chuckled lightly. He had place the kneeling pad in an exact spot to allow him to hold Silas' position in his mind map. "Don't worry. I'm sure that sighted people do a great amount of silent physical communication. It is only natural." He picked up the instrument and felt it's entirety with his hands. He'd spent the prior night completely familiarizing himself with it, even having Sir Mateo describe it's appearance to him. "Before we get it on, I will tell you what my expectations are. And you can share yours with me. The humbler as it's name implies will place you in a position of supplication. At that point I can simply keep you there or make you complete some tasks from said position. This will be enough to satisfy me and the bingo square. However if there is a square of your own to fulfill or if you simply wish to also partake in some impact play the humbler will offer a unique opportunity to do so."
Silas
Silas's eyes went to the hunk wood in Jamie's hands. Somehow it seemed more intimidating now than it had before. "Yes Sir, um well, I have a square that's hair pulling and I feel like that would fit it, plus it's one of my favorite things. I'm okay with impact stuff too, I do prefer something sharp than dull, like a cane rather than a paddle, if I have the choice. I can do sexual favors too if you want, Sir"
Jamie
"Hmm..." He very much enjoyed a little hair pulling, from both sides of the equation. It was a pain that wasn't even really pain. He'd read how in Indian head massage, hair pulling was a significant part of the process, waking up the body to all of it's sensations. "I think that can be arranged." He reached out, first making contact with Silas' shoulder and working his way up until his fingers were in the submissive's hair. He gave a small sustained tug, before releasing the hold and letting his fingers card through his short lengths of hair. "I have a switch, just a bit thinner than a crop. The switch can be a bit more intense than a cane, but is a very nice sharp kind of pain that I think will fit well with hair pulling." He felt around to make sure he had the switch at hand and then turned his focus to getting Silas fitted with the humbler. "Alright, Silas, I want you to remain as relaxed as possible. Your instinct will be to help me by moving your limbs and trying to fit yourself around the device, but you could harm yourself without realizing. I will move you around and settle it into place. Just remain relaxed and let me move you as I need. And of course as always, safeword or yellow light if you feel the slightest bit of hesitance." He set his hand on the submissive's back for a long while matching their breath before slowly weaving the wooden device behind Silas' thighs and around his scrotum, until anything but the most 'humble', suplicant position was possible. Once it was in place he rubbed up and down his back feeling the nobs of his spine sticking out slightly.
Silas
"Oh I've never had a switch before Sir, sounds fun!" He felt his cock twitch with excitement and even more when Jamie tugged at the roots of his curls. A little moan escaped his lips. "Fuck, Sir. I haven't cum in a really long time and this is kinda workin' me up more than I thought it would," He chuckled as he got onto his hands and knees and did his best to relax but Jamie was right, it was so tempting to try and move or help him. "Sorry Sir, it's hard to sit still, I'm trying," he said, forcing his body to both be still and relax. As his balls were pulled back and secured in place his cock grew stiffer. A click signified the tool was in place and a thrill ran through him "Fuck...wow, this is...so weird,' He said as he shifted slightly and realized just how little movement caused tugging on his sack.
Jamie
"It's one of my favorite flavors of pain. I think you will enjoy it." Jamie chuckled. "It's alright, you're doing well. I know the different parts of the brain will override each other won't they. It can be quite frustrating. He spoke soothingly until it was settled into place. "Now I know this is belated, but we should talk about whether you are allowed to cum and if not what plans we should make to prevent that from happening." He was mentally berating himself for not addressing this before the boy was fully settled in the humbler. He massaged the submissive's muscles to keep him as relaxed as possible so he wouldn't move to much until they had that settled.
Silas
Silas lifted his head to look up at Jamie. "It's okay Sir, I should have said right off but I forgot too. I didn't ask Nate if I could so I'm going to assume that I can't, but it's okay, I'm pretty used to it. I'll safeword if I get too close but generally, its actually really hard for me actually get off anymore. I get super worked up super easily though. He twitched until Jamie's touch and clenched his jaw to force himself not to pull away. He knew how Dom's didn't like when he did that. "I kind of get more pleasure from making other people cum now."
Jamie
"Hmm... I must say that while I do not partake in chastity or denial, I rarely enjoy a sexual encounter that not include at least mutual orgasm. With that in mind let's keep today's scene non-sexual. Honestly, I think that will be best. It will keep the purity of the humbler and pain play." He lightened his touch as he reached back to find the switch. He placed it into his back pocket so that he would have easy access to it before letting his hands slide up to the submissive's hair. He started by simply carding through the curly locks before tightening his grasp and pulling Silas' head back. This would of course arch his back and cause the humbler to pull on his balls. "Mmm, I imagine you must make a beautiful picture just now. But I think if we make your ass rosy red it will be even more beautiful still."
Silas
Silas frowned in disappointment. Part of him wanted to argue that he wanted to get Jamie off and that it was fine if he didn't. That he was a slut and it was his job, but considering his position, he thought maybe it was best he didn't argue. "Yes Sir,' he sighed with a little disappointment before he was swiftly distracted by the Switch's distracting touch. The constant touch had started to go from unnerving to comforting, but quickly it went from comforting to painful. "oh! Oh..fuck," he groaned as he was wrenched back and the pain seemed to come from every direction, his hair, his back and his balls. "Mm yes Sir," he moaned shifting to get comfortable but finding it only pulled more. "Damn this thing is a bear trap. Fuck. Please make my ass all red Sir!"
Jamie
Jamie knew disappointment when he heard it. And while he certainly didn't want the other boy to be disappointed, this was part of being a dominant, even if only for just one scene. He was in control. Negotiations could be had, but in the end he decided what was best for Silas in this scene. And in the end he would make sure that the submissive walked away satisfied. He chuckled lightly at the sound already being pulled from the other man. "It seems like it. A delightfully painful trap, hmm? A trap you're not so desperate to escape I think." He pulled the switch from his pocket while his other hand released it's grasp to massage his scalp, scratching lightly with his nails before once again grasping a handful of hair and pulling. "We'll start with ten and I want you to count them out." He wasted no time bringing the switch down on Silas' tender ass cheeks in a firm slice. Not so hard as to break skin, but enough to create a bright spark of pain. He listened for each count before giving him the next doing his best to space them out in time and placement for maximum stimulation.
Silas
"No, Sir. I don't want to escape, not yet at least," he chuckled, leaning back into Jamie's touch. He had just found a comfortable position when white hot lightning shot through his ass. He jumped, then cringed back in pain, only to jump again when the cringing hurt. Stuck in a painful cycle he yelped and whimpered until he got his body under control. "Fuuuck. Fuck Ow.ookay I"m okay," he scrambled, not wanting to scare Jamie. "One Sir. I'm okay. Just hurt more than I thought it would. It feels good now though."
Jamie
He hadn't yet had experience with the humbler even though he was keen to try it. However that left him with a hole in his knowledge about what Silas was going through. It sounded like it might be on the edge of too much. He stopped after the first few whacks of the switch, releasing Silas' head and just massaging the abused scalp. "It's okay for it not to be okay. Pain is enjoyable in the right doses, but taken too far erases all pleasure. I think you and I both enjoy pushing past our boundaries, hmmm? The delicious danger of pain. I think you can take more though. Can you take more my sweet? I think if we can find the right balance of pain we can take you to ecstasy tonight. Perhaps if we try it with some breathing techniques? I want you to count and then breath in and out. That's all you have to do. Count, breathe in, breathe out and let me spark that ecstasy."
Silas
Silas shook his head. He would try to talk but he was too busy clenching his jaw and riding though the waves of pain. After a minute he let out the breath he'd been holding for minutes and gasped for air. "Yes Sir. No, I'm really okay. It just catch me off guard at first," he tried to reassure the switch. "I do like pushing myself. A slut is good at that..I just don't usually do it with pain like this. It's new. It's good, just new. Yes Sir, I can do that." He took a few deep breaths and was able to get his heart rate back down ,even though each breath seemed to tug harder at his balls. "Hurt me some more, Sir? Please? I can be a good pain slut for you," he said, even though the pain so far had only shriveled his aching cock up.
Jamie
"Shh.. you are so very good. I am in no doubt of that. Your Dom will know how good you were and it will double his pride in you." He took note of everything Silas was saying and all of his reactions. It was time to move this scene along. There would be no talking the submissive out of it and they could discuss pain and the humbler and all of it during aftercare. "Good boy, just like that." He took some of Silas' hair again, but only applied firm pressure, using that as a grounding sensation for the boy as he himself focused on listening for the count, the breathe in and out and than bringing the switch down in a swift, quick slap against the soft flesh of his ass above the humbler and upper thighs below it, avoiding danger zones best that he could.
Silas
He focued on breathing and on the steady tug at his scalp and after a few more swipes at his red ass he felt himself gently lifting off the floor, the room was fading to the background as he drifted in his own body. The pain felt amazing and also like it was happening to someone else as he called out the count. "Mm thank you Sir," he cooed as a particularly nasty hit landed across his skin. "I'm getting hard again Sir...I'm sorry if I leak on your floor."
Jamie
Jamie felt better as he felt the energy around the submissive. He seemed more calm tensing with each hit as was natural but them melting into the pain. His concern that he was doing something Silas wasn't ready for or able to enjoy melted away as well. He chuckled lightly. "Good boy. Such a good boy." He was hard himself now that he knew that the submissive in his care was enjoying the treatment. "You're pleasing me so much right now." He had set the switch aside, but used his open palm to lay a few more light swats against the hot skin. "I'm reconsidering allowing you to pleasure me more. I think you deserve a reward for doing so well. Don't you?"
Silas
Silas lazily grinned at the complements and lifted his head up to try and look at Jamie but it only tugged on his nuts further and he lulled back into the only comfortable position he'd found. "Mmm thank you Sir," he hummed, bracing for another hit from the switch but instead received a blunt smack that lurched his body forward. God it felt amazing and terrible all in the best ways. "Really!? Yes Sir. I'll make you feel so good, I promise! Please Sir! You could fuck me or I could use my mouth on you, anything you want to thank you for making me feel so good."
Jamie
While he couldn't deny that sinking into his body and feeling the heat radiating off his ass would be delicious, he wasn't sure he would cause actual physical damage to his scrotum with the movements fucking him would cause. "I wish I could give you the choice as a reward for being such a good boy, but I think your mouth sounds delectable." He quickly stripped and got down on his knees in front of Silas. He had lost contact with him in the process and needed to reach out to get his bearings. His hand made contact with Silas' shoulder telling him that he needed to get a bit closer. As he inched closer hard shaft curving gracefully up toward his stomach, he let his hands drift into his hair again. "Suck it boy." He was fully feeling his dominant side now, letting go of some of the politeness. "I want to hear you gagging." He wasn't as large as some, but he knew himself to be well-endowed enough to give pleasure to even the greatest slut. He let one hand slide down Silas' back with some pressure. The boy would need a little bit of leverage but with the humbler in place he would some help with that.
Silas
Silas was dying to be fucked but he loved gagging on cock enough not to complain. Plus, he really wasn’t in the mindset for making decisions. He waited for Jamie to get into position, initially trying to shuffle forward only to remember instantly that moving was painful. Thankfully, Jamie moved for him. “Fuck,” he groaned as Jamie started to speak more dominantly. He didn’t waste time and leaned forward, taking the cock between his lips. He licked and lapped to get it nice and wet, but found it frustrating from the position to not have his hand to steady it. He was determined though and got the cock in his mouth to tease and suck the tip. But Jamie wanted gagging and Silas was all too happy to comply. He managed to leaned forward enough to take him deeper, rocking his whole body to bob to his head in an effort to not tug too much on his balls. The pain was amazing in short bursts though. Something about feeling physical pain in order to bring someone else sexual pleasure in this way was quickly becoming his favorite thing. He gagged over and over until finally he lunged forward with determination and though it tugged at his nuts, he got Jamie down his throat.
Jamie
Silas' mouth was a wonder. He groaned as soon as it made contact with his cock. The absolute dedication to pleasing him regardless of the pain it caused him every time he rocked forward. "Mmmm... that's so good... so good Silas. Hahhhh..." He let his head fall back as pleasure traced up and back down his spine to collect in his balls which were already drawn up. When the submissive actually deep throated him, Jamie grunted and and didn't hold back thrusting up. He took hold of Silas' head and started to fuck his throat. It didn't take him long to unload, spurting over and over lodged deep in his hot, wet, spasming throat. He pulled back as soon as he could, knowing Silas would need oxygen. He also pressed him back into a more comfortable position. His urge was to find a way to bring his partner to the same release but that would not be allowed or indeed welcomed so he just leaned back and praised. "Such a good slut. Your mouth is beautiful." He let himself reach out to find Silas' lips. He could feel them slick with spit and snot and cum and he smiled. "Mmmmm you feel a mess."
Silas
Silas was confident in very few things, but his ability to give the best damn blow job in town was one of them. It was such a thrill to cause his partner to moan and groan and getting them to cum never got old. He was only saddened that he couldn't taste the full load as most of it went straight down his throat. When he could he gasped for air with a big slimy smile on his lips. "God that was- fuck," he breathed, "Thank you Sir. Thank you for letting me get you off. You taste amazing." He leaned towards Jamie's fingers and nodded. "I am a mess Sir, such a mess for you."
Jamie
Jamie wanted very badly to kiss his own taste from inside Silas' mouth, but kisses were not something they'd discussed ahead of time so he resisted. Instead he just reached out and swiped his thumb across the boy's lips and stuck it in his own mouth, sucking obscenely. The scene it seemed had come to an end. There was still the careful job of removing the humbler and massaging soothing ointment into sore muscles, but they had reached that point and he found himself regretting it. The time had passed far too quickly. "You are such a good boy Silas. You do your Dom proud."
Silas
Silas shivered as Jaime stole some of his prized cum. God the man was hot. He flashed back to the time Jamie had fucked him in an empty classroom and his cock strained and ached. "Thank you Sir..god you've got me so turned on right now. I love it. I'll be up all night just thinking about how amazing this was."
Jamie
Jamie chuckled as he moved to start gently extricating Silas from the contraption. "Hmm... perhaps you'll have to visit your Dominant and ask him if you can work of some of this sexual energy with him. I must say that I selfishly wish I could fuck you until you can't help but cum all over yourself. I'd make a meal of licking you clean." His dick made a valient attempt to rise to the occasion, just picturing the scenario in his mind. "Perhaps you and your Dom will at the very least allow me to fuck this lovely ass sometime. Or perhaps you can suck me off while Nate fucks me and Sir Mateo fucks you. That's a lovely image isn't it? My imagination is boundless." Teasingly leaving Silas to those thoughts, he first made sure that the cage he wore wouldn't get hung up against the wood of the humbler and then started by moving his legs to the side while gently cupping his scrotum to protect them as. Then it was merely a little twist, like removing a shirt from a hanger and he was free. "Breathe... just breathe. There's bound to have been some blood constriction. As it flows back it will be a bit painful."

Fred x reader / Lost
Request: “Here, take me jacket.” - “I told you, I’m not cold.” *shivering* could I request this prompt for fred / reader? maybe it’s before they get together and they just had a big fight and now they’re lost in the woods or something. the fight is huge and then they kiss and admit their feelings :-) thank you! i love your fics! (From anon)
A/n This was actually shorter than I thought but I love it anyway. Thank you for requesting, I loved it. My second request fulfilled today! Requests are still open. So i wrote this instead of studying today (woops) but oh well. I love these prompts so much so please request any you want :) Also this is another first kiss story, they’re so cute to write <3 I know some features of them are similar but they have different storylines and everything (I don’t know i get conscious and critical when I write, ignore me) A/n
Prompts here.
Word count: 2,317
Warnings: Swearing from the beginning.
“Where the fuck are we?!”
“For the thousandth time, I know where we’re going!”
You scoffed at Fred’s sentence knowing he was just as lost as you were. He shot back a glare over his shoulder to you as he continued walking through the dark forest.
“God this place is creepy.” You shuddered as you saw what looked to be a centaur run through the trees. Fred laughed annoyingly.
“Aww do you want me to comfort you?” His tone was patronising as he spoke and it made you want to strangle him. You hit him as hard as you could on the arm as you took the lead, marching in front and as far away from him as possible without separating.
The only reason you were staying with him is because as scary as the forbidden forest was, it was much worse alone. But of all the people, why did you have to be with Fred Weasley?!
“You know it’s your fault we’re here.” You crossed your arms, not looking back at him as you searched for a gap of light to indicate an exit.
“I said I know where we are!” Fred gestured widely, his voice was highly annoyed.
“I don’t mean that, you idiot. I mean you’re the reason we had stupid detention in the first place.” You comments had a tone of bitterness and Fred couldn’t help but laugh sarcastically.
“Oh really?” You nodded obviously at his ridiculous question. “And how’d you reach that conclusion love?”
“Don’t call me love!” You had finally turned to face him, stopping him in his tracks. You were furious as he screwed his face up sarcastically and shrugged. “Ugh, you are the most annoying human being!” He laughed again and to stop yourself punching his smug little face, you turned swiftly back round and began walking aimlessly once again.
“So how exactly is it my fault?” Fred’s voice was mockingly sweet. He blinked his eyes almost innocently. You sighed and rubbed the bridge of your nose. “You were the one who shouted at me and started the whole fight.”
“Only because,” you stopped again and marched up to him, he widened his eyes in surprise. “You covered me and my essay in slime.” Your index finger poked at his chest.
“The essay was an accident!” Fred exclaimed. “Why would I do that when I can copy off of you. Now I’m gonna have to actually do the essay.” Fred was joking and it made your anger both lessen and rise simultaneously.
There had been a long building tension between the two of you for a while, everyone seemed to notice. People had even been betting on whether the tension would end in you two getting together or with one killing the other. It had all seemed to escalate yesterday when Fred and George had decided to play a prank on you. They thought it would be funny to cover you in slime, a magical slime that was hard to remove and stained. You didn’t find it funny especially when you had a test next period and your well crafted herbology essay had been slimed.
The next class you shared with both the twins, you had taken your anger out on Fred. George had at least apologised and helped you clean up. Some harsh words were exchanged along with some pretty explicit swears landing you both in detention for disrupting the class.
Hagrid had initially taken you for detention with fang by his side. You liked Hagrid and could spend most of your time talking to him rather than Fred so it made the detention seem better. But then Fang ran after something before yelping and falling down half way back to the hut and Hagrid had left panicking. He’d told you a list of directions and what to do when you found the missing skrewts and left. It had felt like hours, maybe even days since that happened and you had quickly got lost.
“You know what? That’s it!” You defiantly sat down beside a large tree and hugged your knees to your chest. Fred just furrowed his eyebrows at you. “This is pointless Fred! We’re lost!”
“So what’s your big plan? Wait until someone comes and saves us?!” Fred was now yelling, his joking tone gone as he stared down at you. You only shrugged in response, your tongue in your cheek. Fred rolled his eyes and began searching the area for any attacking creatures. Once he seemed to feel safe enough he sat down next to the adjacent tree and began snapping twigs.
A couple of minutes passed before you started to shiver slightly. You had come out in only a t-shirt thinking it would be a rather quick detention.
You didn’t notice Fred stand and walk to you, neither did you realise the kind smile that crossed his face. “Are you cold?”
You didn’t look up from where you sat as you tried to control your shivering and the goosebumps on your arms. “No.” Your tone was snappish and obvious indicating you didn’t need his help. He gave you a smug knowing look and shrugged off his jacket.
“Here take my jacket.” You finally looked up at him and saw his hand outstretched with his jacket. It looked warm and cosy but you weren’t about to take it, you needed to stick to your principles. So instead you turned you head away from him with an airy huff of annoyance. You heard him give a breathless chuckle that sounded anything but happy. “You’re so stubborn.”
“Yeah?!” Your voice was high pitched as you bit back, still not looking at the taller boy.
“Yeah you are! You won’t even take a damn jacket even though your obviously freezing!”
“I. Said. I’m. Not. Cold!” Your anger had flared to its highest peak as you spat the words out through gritted teeth. A shiver ran through your body defeating your point. Fred smiled knowingly. “Anyway it’s not as bad as you being a self-cantered arsehole!” Fred looked outraged, you stood up to face him properly. The anger in your eyes matching his.
“You know what your annoying as fuck! You think your so entitled to everything that you don’t even see what you have!” You had never seen Fred this angry before, it was highly intimidating but you weren’t backing down.
“What’s that supposed to mean?!” You were yelling so loud you were sure that Hagrid could hear you from his hut.
“It means that-!” And suddenly Fred was backing down, the anger in his eyes turned to something more nervous and he was retreating from where you had been stood closely together.
You raised your eyebrow as if to say continue but he just looked away from you entirely. “Nothing it- it means nothing.”
“No say it.” You didn’t mean to come off as demanding anymore but this wasn’t over. You needed to know what he meant, mainly out of curiosity. “What did you mean Fred?!”
Fred looked up to meet your eyes as you stared him down. “I’m in love with you okay!” Fred’s voice was loud through the silence of the forest. You watched, speechless as his nervousness turned again into annoyance. “And it’s so infuriating that you don’t even see that!”
“Fred, I didn’t know-“ your voice had lowered significantly as you watched Fred’s annoyed face look anywhere but at you. Your mind whirred with his confession. Your heart not being sure what to do raced faster, thudding inside your chest.
“Of course you didn’t! How could you when you hardly talk to me and if you do it’s to scream at me?!” His yelling words hurt because you knew they were true. You tended to guard yourself whenever you got close to someone and it usually ended with you pushing them away until they hated you. The minute you had begun to realise you had feelings towards Fred you stopped talking to and avoided him whenever possible. It made you sad as you pulled away from his friendship, you considered him one of your only and best friends but you had to remind yourself of the retching feeling of heartache. Part of you knew that Fred was different but you couldn't let it happen, not again.
You met Fred’s eyes with an intensity, you didn’t know what was happening as you crossed the short distance between the both of you and kissed him, every thought flying out of your head at your impulsive action. Fred froze on the spot, his eyes wide. You pulled back pretty quickly, a panic rising in your chest at your unrequited action.
“What are you doing?” Fred’s voice was dazed and he looked confused with wide eyes, like a deer in headlights. You decided to play it confident, even though you felt anything but.
“Kissing you, you idiot!” You smiled at him as he just laughed before leaning in himself to kiss you properly. You pulled him closer as his hand rested on your head doing the same until your chests were pressed against each other, impossibly close. The kiss was deepened as Fred’s tongue traced your bottom lip, asking for permission to enter which you granted by opening your mouth a little more and pushing your tongue against his. You pushed Fred up against a large towering tree and pulled back, smiling mischievously at him.
“By the way, all that entitled, stubborn bitch and self centred arsehole stuff?” Fred looked guilty at your questioning tone before he quirked an eyebrow. “Forgotten?” You smiled hopefully at him as he smirked and nodded.
“Definitely, now shut up.” You were about to protest jokingly but was stopped by Fred kissing you again. The forest soon seemed to fade away from you as you focused on the intensity of the kiss, trying to hold your breath for as long as possible so you wouldn’t have to part.
The sound of a twig cracking under a heavy foot made you pull away from Fred’s lips. He looked confused as he tried to chase the taste of your lips again. You smacked his chest lightly as you looked around. Fred noticed the panic in your eyes and rubbed a hand comfortingly on your arm. You pulled your wand out and stepped away to hold it in front of you. Fred did the same.
“I’m gonna go have a look okay? Maybe see if I can find Hagrid.” Fred spoke confidently as he made to walk away, he was trying to act like a brave knight but no way were you letting him leave you. You reached out for his wrist and pulled him back.
You looked at him with pleading eyes that read ‘don’t leave me’. “You’re gonna leave me alone?!” Your teeth gritted together.
You started to feel annoyance towards him again as you thought about sitting alone, just waiting to be eaten. Fred just smiled as reassuringly as he could. “I won’t be long and I won’t go far.” You still felt thoroughly unsure, your annoyance turned into fear as another twig snapped. You shook your head quickly and held on tighter to Fred’s hand. He couldn’t leave you here.
Fred just nodded and before he knew it, you had rushed into his arms as a tall figure came towards you through the darkness. Fred’s own fear stopped his smile from showing at the contact.
“Well there you two are! I’ve been looking for the both of you!” Hagrid’s cheery voice was a welcome sound to your ears as his bushy hair and beard came into focus. You felt Fred’s breath exhale with relief as did your own.
“Hagrid, thank Merlin!” Fred rushed over to the half giant and almost hugged him in relief. Hagrid gave a booming laugh as you explained Fred had got you both lost to which Fred responded with a glare. You laughed it off and he couldn’t help but smile. All the annoyance and tension fading from your now joke-filled arguments.
You picked up Fred’s jacket from where he had laid it out for you next to the tree as Hagrid began to lead the way out of the forest.
You gave a dramatised shiver as a harsh wind blew through the trees. Hagrid began telling you about fang but you didn’t listen. You wrapped the slightly oversized jacket over your shoulders. It was so warm and cosy, exactly as you had thought it would be. You unconsciously sniffed the material and smelled a scent that could only be described as Fred. Although he was annoying as all hell, he was also pretty sweet. A thought which you would never say aloud to him, he had a big enough head as it was.
“Is that my jacket?” Fred inquired with a smug smile and a playful nudge as you walked alongside him. You turned your head to him with an inescapable smirk on your face.
“No.” You fought your best efforts not to laugh with him as Fred chuckled beside you and reached down to grab your swinging hand.
“It looks good on you.” Fred’s voice was cheerful as though professing his feelings for you had lifted the tense weight off of him. You smiled, squeezing his hand.
Once you had finally exited the forest, Hagrid insisted on having you both for tea. You accepted not wanting to be rude and went inside the warm hut. Fang seemed to be recovering on an armchair near the fire as you sipped your tea. Fred shot you sly looks whenever Hagrid wasn’t looking and you shook your head amusedly.
You both drew the line as Hagrid offered up his rock cakes, excusing yourself for dinner in the great hall as you looked at the time.
But somehow you still managed to arrive late to dinner, a fact which didn’t go unnoticed by George and Lee Jordan. They both narrowed their eyes before smirking at your messy looks. Fred’s tie was loosened as though it had been pulled, one of his buttons was incorrectly done up and his hair stuck up in various directions. And although you looked more put together, your lips were red and swollen and you were sporting a heavy red blush that reached all down your neck blending with other red marks left there.
As you sat down opposite them, they both gave you knowing smiles to which you just started to load your plate with food, ignoring them. Fred did the same.
“5 sickles please.” George held his hand out expectantly towards Lee who sighed and dug into his pocket. He pulled out 5 silver coins and put them in George’s waiting hand. You glared at George who thanked the both of you embarrassingly with a smug, unwavering smile.

‘I Have No Idea Where My Daughter Is’: Migrant Parents Are Desperate for News
With a record 20,000 migrant children in shelters and detention facilities, many parents have waited weeks to learn what happened to their children after they crossed the border.
When Maria Ana Mendez left Honduras a decade ago to earn money in the United States, her daughter Cindy was still in pigtails and playing with dolls.
But settled now with a job and an apartment in upstate New York, Ms. Mendez was ready to bring Cindy to live with her. Because she is still undocumented and could not legally bring her into the country, she paid a guide $8,000 in February to take Cindy, now 16, across thousands of miles to the doorstep of the United States.
Three weeks later, Ms. Mendez heard from her daughter for the first time: She had crossed the Rio Grande on a raft and was being held in a temporary U.S. border camp in Donna, Texas. She had not showered in five days, and was sleeping on the ground. She did not feel well.
Days without news turned into weeks of anguish as Ms. Mendez made repeated phone calls to a U.S. government hotline to learn her daughter’s whereabouts. On April 3, Cindy was able to call — from a hospital in San Diego. She was “very sick” with Covid-19, she told her mother.
“I can’t take this anymore,” said Ms. Mendez, who booked a flight to San Diego.
A surge of arrivals on the border has put nearly 20,000 migrant children in government custody — the largest number in recent memory — creating chaos and confusion as immigration authorities scramble to care for them, contact their parents and process them for release.
The Biden administration has rushed to open emergency intake sites at convention centers in San Diego and Dallas, a coliseum and expo center in San Antonio, a former oil camp in Midland, Texas, and at the Army base at Fort Bliss, Texas. Other sites, including a convention center in Long Beach, Calif., are expected to accommodate children soon.
But the government is still struggling to bring in people to staff them, and immigrant parents across the country, who often have no idea what happened to their children after they entered the United States, are growing increasingly desperate.
Some children have gone weeks or longer without being able to contact their parents.
In Austin, Texas, a Honduran woman is waiting for news of her two children, 6 and 9, who were brought to the border in March by a family member but then separated from the adult relative and taken to an unknown destination.
A Honduran father said he had been told that his 14-year-old son, who arrived in March, is one of 2,000 migrant boys being housed at the convention center in Dallas. But he has yet to speak with him.
Keep up with the new Washington — get live updates on politics.
A Guatemalan woman living in Iowa City has filled out two packages of paperwork to try to reunite with her 16-year-old sister, who has been in government custody since crossing the border on March 4. She recently learned that the teenager had been moved from a shelter in Texas to another in Pennsylvania.
“I am very worried about her,” said the woman, Juana Cuyuch Brito, 32. “I don’t know why they transferred her or what is going on.”
Lidia Cuyuch Brito, the 16-year-old sister of Juana Cuyuch Brito, photographed in Guatemala before leaving for the United States.
The problem appears to be one of sheer numbers, as the new administration struggles to hire enough people to staff the temporary shelters, make contact with parents and verify that children can be safely released to them.
Administration officials say they are doing the best they can to handle the latest rush to the border, trying to provide safe housing and secure placements for children who have already faced substantial dangers traveling through Mexico and crossing the border, often with no adult guardian.
“I can say quite clearly: Don’t come over,” Mr. Biden said last month. “Don’t leave your town or city or community.”
Yet hundreds of children continue to be intercepted and transported to processing centers each day. In the Rio Grande Valley of Texas, border facilities were operating at 743 percent capacity last month. A tent structure in Donna was at 1,707 percent capacity.
About half the children arriving at the border are coming to reunify with a parent, like Ms. Mendez, who has been residing in the United States for many years.
Often the children were raised by grandmothers and other close relatives who are now aging and can no longer care for them. Like their parents, many are teenagers who do not see a future in their home countries.
Because the parents lack legal status or have asylum cases stuck in immigration court backlogs, most are unable to sponsor their children to immigrate legally to the United States; they resort to smuggling networks to transport them.
Nearly 16,500 migrant teenagers and children who crossed the border without a parent are being housed in Department of Health and Human Services facilities until they have met the requirements for release. Roughly 4,000 more are stranded in Border Patrol stations waiting for beds in those shelters to open.
The emergency facilities provide clean sleeping quarters, meals, toiletries, laundry and access to medical care, including coronavirus screening. Services are provided by a combination of contractors and federal staff.
But there is still a severe shortage of case managers to handle the bureaucracy. It is these social workers who contact parents and request documents to start the process of releasing their children to them.
Once a parent has submitted the paperwork and passed a background check, the child’s placement must be approved by a specially designated officer, to ensure that a child will be safe.
The dearth of staff at every level, according to child-welfare experts, is one of the main reasons that, on average, only about 300 minors a day are being released, creating a frantic race for new bed space as more children cross the border.

Leecia Welch, a lawyer whose team interviewed about 20 children in several intake facilities in Texas on March 29 and 30, said none of the children had been assigned a case manager by that time.
The lawyers found that many children were waiting several weeks before being permitted to speak with family members.
“What these kids want first and foremost is to be reunited with their families,” Ms. Welch said. “They were desperate to hear their parents’ voices.”
One child she interviewed in Dallas, she said, teared up as he told her that he had gone three months without contact with his family and that he had made his first call the day before.
Many parents already had undergone weeks of anxiety as their children undertook the dangerous journey through Mexico, often in the hands of smugglers. Customs and Border Protection officials this week released a video of a sobbing 10-year-old Nicaraguan boy who had been found wandering in a remote area of Texas after he was abandoned by the group he was traveling with.
“The inhumane way smugglers abuse children while profiting off parents’ desperation is criminal and morally reprehensible,” the secretary of homeland security, Alejandro N. Mayorkas, said in a statement in March. “Just this month, a young girl died by drowning, a 6-month-old was thrown into the river, and two young children were dropped from a wall and left in the desert alone.”
Since arriving in the United States a decade ago, Ms. Mendez, 42, has juggled jobs as a housekeeper, a packer at a seafood processing plant and a chef’s assistant at a diner, sending $200 to $300 every two weeks back to her family.
Last year, Ms. Mendez watched her daughter graduate from high school by video. Cindy wanted to fulfill her dream of becoming a computer programmer, and the time to do that was now, she said.
As she headed north toward the border, Cindy checked in with her mother every few days.
To prepare for her arrival, Ms. Mendez painted her room pink, furnishing it with a new bed and a colorful princess spread. She hung helium balloons to make it festive.
Cindy reached Texas in early March and was intercepted by the Border Patrol, which took her to a processing center.
After an initial phone call from her daughter, Ms. Mendez waited anxiously for more news.
But weeks went by, and every time Ms. Mendez phoned a call center at the Office of Refugee Resettlement, which is responsible for sheltering migrant children, she heard that her daughter’s case was “pending.”
“I have no idea where my daughter is,” Ms. Mendez said in an interview on March 26. “No one is telling me anything at all.”

The agency has not responded to questions about staffing and reunification procedures, though it has said generally that children are being carefully accounted for and put in touch with their parents as quickly as possible. Rushing the process risks the possibility of releasing children into unsafe conditions, officials say.
When Ms. Mendez could learn nothing of her daughter’s whereabouts, she contacted an immigration lawyer, Kate Lincoln-Goldfinch, who filed a complaint with the inspector general for the Department of Health and Human Services. The handling of Cindy’s case, it said, represented a “gross deviation” from the Biden administration’s stated policy of reuniting unaccompanied minors with their parents as swiftly as possible.
“We fear that the child has either been lost or unaccounted for by the agency,” the letter concluded.
Nothing happened.
Then, last Saturday, Ms. Mendez’s cellphone buzzed. It was Cindy.
“Mami, I am in the hospital in San Diego. I have Covid,” she told her mother, her voice feeble.
She said that she had been staying at the convention center in San Diego before she began feeling very sick and was transferred by ambulance to the hospital.
“How could they leave her alone in the hospital and not advise me?” Ms. Mendez said.
It took a day before she would receive an update about her child’s condition. Ms. Lincoln-Goldfinch called the hospital, but a charge nurse and social worker initially refused to release any information, referring her to the Border Patrol, she said.
In an interview from the hospital on Monday, Cindy said she had been isolating in a room at the convention center, which holds about 1,400 girls, with 20 others who had tested positive for the coronavirus.
Finally, on Tuesday, Ms. Mendez learned that Cindy had recovered from her illness and would be discharged soon. The government had approved her release from custody, she was told.
Ms. Mendez immediately flew to San Diego, and went straight from the airport to the convention center late on Wednesday.
Mother and daughter emerged 15 minutes later, holding each other in tears.
