Jesus taught to us that the Kingdom of God is a spiritual mystery, that not everyone can understand in depth. And this is so because if we want to enter the kingdom of heaven through our selfishness we will fail, the kingdom of Jesus exceeds all imperfection of human reason: “Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect” Matthew 5:48. And this is what happened to the enemies of Jesus, the Pharisees were oppressors, that is, people in complete opposition to the kingdom of heaven, and sought to find Jesus in some fault, so on one occasion they asked him: "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any and every reason?" Matthew 19:3. And Jesus understood the nature of the question, and answered them that all legislation made for men is based on the hardness of the heart, that is, the lack of empathy towards others: "Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard. But it was not this way from the beginning” Matthew 19:8. Jesus said without expressing it openly that in the good love (Agape), marriage also implies the spiritual gift of chastity, which is to avoid immoral sexual relations, lust was in the time of Jesus one of the main causes of divorce, and so, practice adultery. But the disciples insisted: "If this is the situation between a husband and wife, it is better not to marry" Matthew 19:10. Then our Lord Jesus returned on his words, because wisdom at some point is difficult to understand for the common and simple people, the wisdom of the Holy Spirit is for those who have a fearful heart towards God: "´Not everyone can accept this word, but only those to who it has been given´" Matthew 19:11. In the doctrine of Jesus, the person we have close to us is our spiritual brother or spiritual sister (because God is our father), and not an object that we can discard. That is why Jesus tells us about spiritual eunuchs: "There are those who choose to live like eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven" Matthew 19:12. Our coexistence with others, summarizes Jesus, should not be a reason to sin or despise our neighbor.

When the Clouds Do Not Lift
This month is suicide awareness month. If you did not know, suicide is now the 10th leading cause of death in America. In my teenage years, I dealt with the battles that come with anxiety & depression, and fighting off suicidal thoughts. Enduring my parents divorce & custody battle, as well as all of the stresses that come with being a teenager, took a real toll on me. It was one of the darkest periods of my life. I sunk into a deep depression as month followed month. My mere existence followed the pattern of attending school, to return home to sleep my sadness away. This was my existence. And for a long time, I felt as though the dark cloud would never lift. Life had lost its color; food it’s taste. God felt so distant. Although I never did anything to physically harm myself and take my own life, the thought crossed my mind many times. Moving to a college that was far away from everything that caused me pain became my escape; my “heaven”.
During that dark time, my high school teachers took notice and informed my parents when I seemed withdrawn, and not like my “usual self.” It would have been easy for them to brush it off as a case of the teenage woes . But they didn’t. Now being a high school teacher, I find myself on constant alert (almost too much so) to check in with my students and see how they’re really doing, and if there’s anything I can do to help with the teenage woes. It may be in the form of modifying a homework assignment, or having a 5-minute conversation. But every word matters. Every action makes a difference.
I don’t know if you’ve known anyone who’s ever struggled with anxiety and/or depression, or has had suicidal thoughts. Maybe it’s a friend. A family member. A student. Or maybe it’s even you. But know this-suicide is never the answer. It’s never too late to reach out. One phone call, one “I care about you”, can make a difference. Let people know you care. And more importantly, God does.
Charles Spurgeon, the “Prince of Preachers”, dealt with depression. He once said in a sermon, “My spirits were sunken so low that I could weep by the hour like a child, and yet I knew not what I wept for”. And I can empathize. In this fallen world, I still battle depression to this day. It is not as heavy, nor as frequent. And it is not always with cause. It varies; like the waves of the ocean ebb and flow. But every now & then it will come, and I find that I must preach the good news to myself. The sadness may not lift immediately. But unlike before, I know that the Lord is not distant; He is indeed near, and sees every tear, hears every cry. And on the day that Jesus returns, He will make all things right. This dark cloud will lift, and “He will swallow up death forever; and the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from all faces, and the reproach of his people he will take away from all the earth, for the LORD has spoken.” (Isaiah 25:8)
And I hope that on that day I will have an unending smile upon my face, and be found with those that say, “Behold, this is our God; we have waited for him, that he might save us. This is the LORD; we have waited for him; let us be glad and rejoice in his salvation." (Isaiah 25:9)
And that makes all the difference.

All of us have undergone different circumstances before we truly accepted Jesus as our Lord and Savior. Also, even now that we already know Him, there are still so many mysteries that our mind cannot fathom. Even Paul the Apostle in whom Christ has revealed to Him almost everything that we need to understand in a Christian life still has the difficulty to understand the ways of God. Indeed that His ways are higher and His thoughts are more profound than us.
However, despite all of these mysteries, God has revealed to us more than the understanding of receiving salvation through Christ. Our verse today ushers us to a different aspect of what else we received the moment Christ died for us. It is not already a new knowledge to us that we are sinful. We know that we are, that is why we need Jesus and we received His salvation. Yet, we still fail to understand that Jesus should not only become someone who we can get our salvation from but we have to know that Jesus is God. He must become the Lord of our lives and let Him take over our lives.
So, when Paul wrote this letter to Colossians, God has revealed through Him that the glorious riches mystery that we will receive is Jesus Christ Himself, our hope of glory. We did not just simply receive eternal life and got pardoned from our sins, but we received Jesus Christ Himself. He is in us and that is why God has repeatedly mentioned in the Bible that He is with us because indeed He is in us. We became Jesus’ temple and He resides in us. Thus, we must never only try to understand the salvation but also, we must remember that through the death and resurrection of Christ, He has also made us His temple. He indeed lives in us and dwells among us.
Now, what is the effect of having Jesus inside us? Well, the effect of having Jesus inside us is that He fills us with countless reasons to be grateful. He gives us the heart to be always full of gratitude. Jesus fills our hearts with comfort, purpose and energy to live. He cultivates joy into our hearts despite any situations, may it be time of rejoicing and time of sorrow. Christ will give us the strength to rejoice even if our circumstances are not good because we will find the purpose of it and we will find it still as a blessing. More importantly, Christ has given us hope— the hope of glory that can only be found in Him.
Therefore, may we never forget that God has already revealed to us the mystery. He has revealed to us that the mystery of salvation is only that we will receive eternal life and be pardoned from our sins, but we receive Jesus Christ in us. That Jesus will live inside us and will remain inside our hearts to guide us, to fill our hearts with gratitude, to comfort us, to give us a purpose, to make us joyful and especially, to give us hope as we continue to wait for His second coming. Thus, we should never forget this truth and always make sure that we are honoring our bodies because it is God’s temple and He lives in us.

"When Jesus drew near and saw the city, He wept over it, saying, 'Would that you, even you, had known on this day the things that make for peace!" - Luke 19:41-42 If we only knew, Gallipolis and Gallia County, how the heart of God yearns for us to know His love for us, how different things would be! #PrayForRevival #JesusIsOurHope https://www.instagram.com/p/Bvg-7fPlHyQlYbyuIXTtp-Nn_G6VlXew3WtxMU0/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1whihyfpcwx3k

When Jesus presents the Kingdom of Heaven to us, the empire of God’s perfections, he explains that everything begins with hearing and living the word of God, as in the parable of the sower (Matthew 13:1-9). And after presenting the word, Jesus teaches us the commandment of love: “Love your neighbor as yourself”, Mark 12:31. The wisdom from above is prior to love because to love something you have to know it first. Wisdom is the knowledge of the correct means of living. In other words, the love of God (Agape) is a consequence of the acquisition of wisdom. In life knowing how to do the correct thing at the correct time with the correct means is fundamental, that's why Jesus explains to us in the gospel: "But even more blessed are all who hear the Word of God and put it into practice", Luke 11:28. This beatitude of Jesus has nothing to do with the commandments but with living according to the spirit, to live the spiritual gifts inherit from God, to search the correct and the best, the correct for the spiritual gift of counsel and the best for the mercy (compassion, kindness, gentleness): “Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful”, Luke 6:36; “Be holy because I am holy”, 1 Peter 1:16. The commandments only show us where the sin is, instead, the word of God is progressive, edifying, benevolent, the word of God lived with constancy (fear of God) is the way to Gnosis: "Jesus answered, ´Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit.”, John 3:5-6. The word of God is purifying, brings us closer to God, and teaches us to think, only in this way can we illuminate reason. Faith and hope are sterile without the word.

He sure is BLESSED!!! With everything that this kid do these days, one of the most amazing thing is the developmemt of his confidence... to me that's huge! Confidence is something i struggled most of my life...and still do from time to time. He is growing a whole lot in so many areas, and the question of "why" is the word that comes out of his mouth 1,000 of times through out the day, he is seeking and observing, he never stops noticing things in his environment. As a singlemom, it's a lot to handle sometimes when his questions are deeper than they should... like, "Mom, can we have a house with a mom and a dad inside" ..... .. The truth is...just like him, i too am blessed beyond what i deserve! The presence of Christ in my little household is active and loud. My son might not have the traditional household but what we have right now is the best thing I've had....ever! That's what the Lord Jesus has done and continuing to do.... We love HIM because HE first loved us!!! ...... One of the most profound statement I've heard is this.. "Your greatest fear should not be of Failure, but rather, of succeeding at things that does not matter in the end of your day!" .... #loveGodfirst #Gratefulforthesemoments #JesusisourHope #blessed #moments #momblogger #tumblr #lovedforfree #faithoverfear
