"Early is all we have. Early is when you are mine, only"
This was so breathtaking I'm reeling, I'm sobbing, I'm clawing at the walls, the forbidden romance to the early morning, to the imperial duties to the burning gazes.

life is a little bit better if you imagine Akemi quietly and with absolute focus tracing the scars on Mizu's stomach, legs, back, neck, up to the swell on her breast, and then kissing the scar at her jaw, just below her chin from where she cracked it on the ice, falling out of Fowler's fortress
Akemi who is robed in silk, smooth and slick like snow, her eyes dark, carnelian, her mouth crimson as murder; who is soft where Mizu is hard, and she touches puckered scarring at Mizu's shoulder like it’s some language she longs to read and Mizu doesn’t shutter beneath her gaze, pitiless and perfect though it is, she loses her breath and lets her gather her hair off her neck and kiss her very gently in the dark, dawn breaking blue and purple over them.
“ It is early, ” Mizu bemoans, much to the apparent disregard of her lover whom places decadent kisses to her jaw, her throat. “ Early is all we have. Early is when you are mine, only, ” empress Akemi reminds her, as though she has forgotten how few moments they can steal for one another.
Long after she is gone, Akemi remembers how she had smiled, eyes lit from the retreating moon, like the glint of a blade held to her throat.
She doesn't see her for so long, she becomes erratic and furious, a cold, mean cruelty gnawing at her belly every time she has to sit across Lady Itoh, receiving guests, but she does not crack under the weight that is pressing down onto her shoulders like a burial shroud; does not tear her gaze away. She is a flame, made of dark honey, smooth and sweet, and terrible, a wildfire, felling everything in its furious path. She takes control of the world around her with a slow whiplash of her dark eyes, a gesture of her hand, languid, sinuous; and all the while remains as still as the centre of a hurricane, swallowing up every thing around her.
When Mizu comes back, she is in a room throbbing with life, surrounded by her ladies in waiting; she is resting an arm on a low, single-panel wooden screen as she gazes over the room, detached, aloof, ethereal, but all of her flawless public facade shatters the moment she sees her, standing there like something cut out of ice and stone, feral, mythical, and her hands become frantic on the silks of her kimono as their eyes meet across the room and she is swept under the currents of her desire, Mizu's eyes, like two furious waves, swallowing her and all of her fire up like a whirlpool, sucking her down into its dark depths.

What do we think of this? Explanations below 😭
Jezebel x Ahab - The Phoenician princess Jezebel was married to king Ahab of Israel as part of a political alliance. She was key in the attempt to replace the Israelite state religion with her own, killing a few people along the way. She also got Ahab the vineyard he wanted (..through some murderous means..) when his own negotiations failed. Definitely the top in that relationship ;)
Jesus x Judas - something something, must you betray me with a kiss, something something, do what you are here to do, something something, he went and hanged himself
Eve x Lilith - Now, in the Bible, Lilith is only actually mentioned in Isaiah (as an evil spirit), then expanded upon in later tradition (to explain the two Creation accounts in Genesis). In this later tradition, she was said to be Adam's first wife who wouldn't submit to him, so God made another from his rib: Eve. I don't think they ever met, but I have seen some fanart, so here they are
Ruth x Naomi - MY OTP. Canon, because I said so. Tragic, because basically all their male relatives die and then Ruth has to marry Boaz for security. Ruth 1:16-17 my beloved 💔
Jacob x Leah - Put this here as a joke about the fact that Jacob always preferred her sister Rachel over Leah herself, and was tricked into marrying her by Laban.
Mary x Joseph - Two thirds of the Holy Family: the ever-compassionate Mother of God (in Christianity) and the step-dad who Stepped Up. See Matthew 1 & 2, Luke 1 & 2, or the (apocryphal) Protoevangelium of James for more
Devorah x Jael - Doesn't make sense as they never actually meet, but when you have two gaslight-gatekeep-girlbosses in the same chapter, they gotta be together. Don't usually recommend reading Judges (for your own mental health), but maybe look into Judges 4 just for them ;)
David x Jonathan - Where to begin? With how Jonathan's soul was said to be bound with David's, and how he loved him as himself? (1 Sam. 18:1-5) Jonathan risking his life to help David escape King Saul's wrath? (1 Sam. 19 and 20) The pair weeping and kissing before they part? (1 Sam. 20:41) David, in his mourning for [spoilers] Jonathan's death, calling his love more wonderful than that of women? (2 Sam. 1)
Absalom x Mephibosheth - David's son and Jonathan's son, whom David adopted. The two fans are @anniflamma and @sir-davey
Daniel x Darius - King Darius the Mede and the eunuch from Judah he falls for at first sight. Or something. Idk, ask anniflamma
Judith x unnamed maid - It does make sense, I swear. Probably unpopular because it's in the Deuterocanon, and also you have to be really looking for it -- but it is there, I promise!!!
St Paul - Just see 1 Corinthians 7
Don't take this too seriously lol, it's all in good fun :))
Feel free to add what you would have done differently / your own propaganda!

Fun Fact: LET ME HOLD THE BABYYYYY!!!
JOKE-OGRAPHY: 1. Jewish laws have a lot of stuff about impurities and uncleanliness.  After giving birth, for example, a mother becomes impure for a time (forty days after having a boy, or eighty for a girl).  During this time, the mother can't enter temples (dwelling places of God) or touch anything sacred. 2. In this cartoon, Joseph reads about the above impurity laws from a brochure.  At first, it seems like he's just informing his beloved wife of their religious duties, but in fact, he's only using it to build up an argument of why HE should be the one holding the new Baby Jesus.  After all, if Mary is legally impure, doesn't that mean she can't hold Jesus, since He's sacred?  Of course, by that logic, the manger could be considered a temple, since it's the current dwelling place of God-made-Man, but Joseph wisely avoids arguing this point.

I feel like Catholics and other Christians tend to hold up the Holy Family as the ideal role model of a nuclear family; but Mary was pregnant outside of wedlock, and Joseph was not Jesus's bio dad. The Holy Spirit (the One Who conceived Jesus) is referred to with feminine language in the original text of the Scripture. According to the Church, Mary and Joseph never consummated their relationship; instead adopting more kids. At Jesus' request, John the Beloved took in Mary as his own Mother--that's chosen family.
None of these things exactly fits the ideals of a nuclear marriage and family which Christians espouse--in fact, it would be considered scandalous. But they were a Holy Family nonetheless. It's almost like family can be complicated and not fit into lines or boxes, and still be built on love and honoring to God

“That’s the fun part—how much you get to externalize internal darkness in a safe way and bring in things that are from your nightmares. Such as Joel’s capacity for violence, and being good at it. I didn’t get into any physical fights growing up, and definitely not as an adult. Violence scares me tremendously. Is it the fear of violence in general? Is it the fear of your own violence?” - PEDRO PASCAL for WIRED (January 2023)
