How do you feel about the Rufus-Dan parent-child relationship, particularly as it evolved throughout the show? I know there have been a lot of discussions about Rufus and Jenny, which makes sense given how overtly fucked that relationship became, but Rufus and Dan are equally fascinating to me in the way they start out with probably the strongest of parental bonds on the show, yet end up where they are post-Inside. At some point it feels like the show writers started writing the Dan-Rufus relationship as if they were friends or peers more than father and son, and the in-universe implications of that are really interesting I think.
Yeah! I think it's complicated by a lot of different things.
1) Rufus and Alison were clearly very young parents when they had kids, like early to mid 20s young. I personally have always headcanoned that they got married because Alison was pregnant with Dan and Rufus pretty much says at one point that he gave up his music career to be a dad. So I think the fact that the age difference between Dan & Rufus is pretty slim is definitely a contributing factor to how that dynamic operates.
2) I personally headcanon, and I think there's enough to go off in canon to support it, that Dan was closer to Alison than Rufus before she left. And I think Alison leaving put Dan into the mother role for Jenny, which makes Dan and Rufus almost seem like partners parenting Jenny rather than father & son. I think Dan taking on a more parental role towards Jenny after Alison left was entirely his choice, maybe one he didn't even consciously make, but Rufus certainly doesn't seem to do anything about it, and goes on treating Dan like a co-parent when issues with Jenny come up rather than treating him like he's her brother (how Breeland coded of them).
3) I think another big change in Dan & Rufus' dynamic occurs when Dan starts dating Serena, and Rufus starts reliving his past with Lily through Dan. Like I personally think Dan is more like Alison and Jenny takes after Rufus, but with this, Dan is now acting like Rufus (in Rufus' eyes at least).
Anyway all of that contributes to where they are in season 1. Throughout season 1, Rufus constantly gives Dan advice about Serena, but a lot of it feels less like father/son advice and more like advice from a peer. In the Thanksgiving episode, Dan makes a comment to Rufus about how finding out that he and Lily used to date has probably set Dan back months from having sex with Serena for the first time and it's so...It's just such a weird thing to say to your father. Like that feels like a comment Dan would make to Nate. So the fact that he feels comfortable being so blunt about his sex life like that with his own father is very telling of how their relationship is more like two friends.
Honestly, I feel like Rufus almost forgets he still needs to parent Dan until all the Rachel Carr stuff in s2. And the way the show handles that is uh, bad. And it paints Rufus as irrationally angry for being upset that his son is sleeping with a grown woman when he's really being the only sane one. (linking this fic now for reasons)
That might be the first moment when their relationship really starts to turn, because I think Rufus kinda has been going along like "Dan's gonna be fine, Dan's a good kid with no serious issues, the worst thing that ever happens to him is he's not popular at school, I don't need to worry about Dan" and then the Carr stuff happens and he realizes Dan is Not Fine, but at this point Dan is 18 and about to be off to college and Rufus is Too Late (he's not but you know...that's certainly how the show acts sometimes, that these kids don't need to be parented anymore once they're off at college).
And then all the Inside stuff...I think a lot of tension between Dan & Rufus, and also Jenny & Rufus, comes from the fact that Dan & Jenny grew up in a home where their parents' artistic dreams remained unfulfilled. Both Rufus and Alison gave up their dreams/careers to focus on being parents. And I think Jenny and Dan are both very conscious of that and while they love their parents, they both have big dreams and lots of ambition and don't want to see that squandered like their parents.
But while Rufus maybe isn't creatively fulfilled, I think he doesn't regret his decision of choosing being a dad over music. (I think his only real regret in life is not fighting for Lily back then) But when Dan implies in his book that all Rufus has amounted to is being Lily's house husband, I think he's rightfully insulted. He gave up his music career to be Dan's dad. He sold his art gallery to fund Dan's college tuition. He finally got to marry the love of his life, the one thing he's probably done that's entirely for him and not his kids in 20 years, and now Dan's publicly giving him shit for that? Fuck that.
And of course, Dan doesn't really see any of that. He might be ungenerous in his reading of his father, but he's not wrong either, that all Rufus is doing is being a house husband now (minus the whole brief thing with Panic, but the writers were entirely uninterested in exploring that anyway). To Dan, this is a cautionary tale. To Rufus, this is just how life goes sometimes.
Neither of them is wrong. But they're not on the same page anymore.

Yandere/dark! Blair Waldorf x reader; you're only hers, and she devises a plan to keep it that way
Tw: yandere/dark content, gender neutral reader, Blair has an unhealthy attachment to the reader and displays behavior that's both obsessive and possessive, blackmail/emotional manipulation, mentions of Blair's eating disorder
A/N: blair has me in a chokehold right now hence this
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Blair didn't consider herself to be a particularly sentimental person, but every time she saw you she swooned a little. You were the object of all of her affections and desires, the apple of her eye, her one true love, if you will.
There was no one else who could ever give her a fairytale ending like you could, she was certain of it. So what if you weren't from the Upper East Side, or if you couldn't afford your education without a scholarship? She didn't care. She wanted you anyway.
The moment she saw Serena of all people chatting you up in the hallway at school, she wanted to grab her by her stupid blonde hair and yank at it until she knocked some sense into her. You weren't a prize to be won by the van der Woodsen because you were already a Waldorf, in your own right.
When you complained about the public transportation you had to suffer through just to get to school in the morning, she offered to pay for a private chauffer for you, or better yet have you to come live with her altogether. She wanted you close, so she could always keep an eye on you.
You were obviously surprised by the invitation and at first declined, but she was persistent and didn't give up until finally you said yes. Score one for Queen B.
Getting you to live with her was a personal victory that she reveled in, and she was quite pleased with herself for being so successful. She used it to her full advantage too, fully threatening to kick you out when she discovered you'd been hanging out with Jenny Humphrey of all people.
(Of course she'd never actually just let you leave, but the warning she gave was enough to get you to cut poor Little J loose permanently.)
Sometimes in the early mornings she liked to slip out of her bed and sneak into your room so she could watch you sleep. That was when you were the most peaceful, she found. After that, she'd go back to her own room and start getting ready for the day, delighted that she had the opportunity to see you whenever she wanted.
One morning, though, you caught her as she was laying in bed next to you, having been woken up by the sound of the door opening. "Blair? What are you doing in here?"
Your groggy voice caused her to freeze. She had to think of a plan, and she had to think of one fast.
"It's my mom," she finally said in a shaky voice, one that was full of (fake) emotion. "She- she commented on my weight again, and I- I-"
That had you awake instantly, a choked sob cutting off the rest of her sentence as you sat up in bed. It was quite obvious what she was alluding to here, and to hear her say that only broke your heart.
"Oh, B, no," you murmured while wrapping your arms around her and cradling her body gently against your chest, stroking her back as you pressed soft kisses to her hairline. "You don't have to listen to her, okay? You're perfect as is, sweetie, I promise."
She merely nodded her head as she continued to "cry", the smirk on her face being hidden by the way she was nuzzling into your shoulder. "Th- Thank you," she muttered at your words.
The gratitude she showed wasn't fake at all. She really was grateful- grateful that you were so naive and easy to manipulate. It wouldn't be hard to get you to fall for her as long as she knew which buttons to push to get you on her side. This was going to be fun.
Still in Bloom
pairings: blair waldorf x male oc
summary: blair waldorf and luke humphrey have always liked one another, but never took the chance to admit the truth of it.
notes: friends (sorta) to lovers, no blair/dan, no royal wedding, chuck is a red flag in himself. luke humphrey is fan-casted by me by tom welling, but picture him as you want. fan-edit is on my tiktok (diegoshako) if you want to see that! this is a little short, but it's my first tumblr one-shot so i'll get used to writing rather than in fic-chapters blocks!
Tumblr media
"I don't know," Dan complained, the empty coffee cup remaining in his hand as they walked up to V Magazine. "Just count yourself lucky you're not working with Blair Waldolf. We cut a deal, but she's going to find a way to sabotage me, I just know it."
Tugging his gloves up a little from where they sat snugly on his wrists, Luke glanced at his slightly younger brother as he ranted.
"Isn't this your third day interning at V Magazine?"
Dan's hand came out in a dramatic gesture as if Luke was supporting his point, "Exactly." His fingers then click, "I have got to sabotage her before she does it to me. For once, it would be nice to not be on the losing side, you know?"
But, the thing was, Luke didn't know. Not really. He'd never been made a target of Blair Waldolf, the woman most famous for her take-downs.
Luckily for him, he'd always been on her. . . good side. Better words, she'd always liked him even before she knew that she did.
And even if she hadn't, Luke hadn't really ever thought about making enemies with her.
He'd fancied her since the moment they crossed one another in the school corridors. She'd flashed some small, semi-sarcastic smile after he'd opened the door for her to the courtyard where they sat for lunch, and he'd been hooked ever since.
Luke Humphrey was well aware how pathetically hopeless he was.
He was just thankful of how little people knew of that fact.
"Or maybe you can leave the scheming behind you and act like adults that you are?" Luke suggested, leaning forward with a raise of his eyebrow.
Dan scoffed as if that idea was pitifully idiotic. "Come on, Luke. This is Blair Waldolf we're talking about. Scheming is second nature to her."
The cold air tinted his cheeks a rosy colour as Luke glanced around, moving out of the way to avoid bumping into a lady walking toward him. It was his day off, and Dan had asked him if he wanted to walk to work instead of staying in, and Luke somewhat regretted saying yes.
Though, it was nice to see Dan for longer than a minute or two this past week. The Humphrey twins were so used to being one another's closest friend that it felt as if they were missing limbs to not be around one another lately.
"You need to give her more credit than that," Luke sighed, though he didn't really blame Dan's doubt — Blair's kindness on Luke had not extended to either of his siblings. Jenny had involved herself in Blair's world for popularity and Dan had been pulled in by the wind-whirl that was named Serena.
"I'm sorry, but are you saying that Blair Waldolf wouldn't take the chance to sabotage me?" The younger twin glanced at Luke with disbelief, finger pointing against his own chest, "You are aware who we're talking about right now, aren't you?"
"Yeah, I'm aware. I'm just saying, take the time to get to know her. She's not all schemes and tricks." Luke did his best to not be so on the defensive, but judging by Dan's face, he was failing miserably. Blair hadn't done anything wrong as of yet, and maybe she wouldn't.
"Am I talking to the right Luke Humphrey?" Dan peered closer, eyes narrowing. "What's going on with you?"
"Me?" Luke was glad that he was wearing gloves and his hat, because it was freezing. He didn't even bother to remove his hands from his jacket pockets as he turned his body in Dan's direction again, nose scrunched. "I'm just saying, Dan."
Dan pulled a face, not quite sure whether he believed that, but he didn't have any time to speak on it further, as they arrived at his internship.
Throwing the empty cup into the bin that was outside it's entrance, his shoulders moved up and down in a heavy motion, glancing up the building before meeting his twin brother's eyes.
"Wish me luck?" He offered for his own satisfaction.
Luke narrowed his eyes, "I think you'll be just fine."
Sensing that was all the sympathy he was going to gather from his sibling, Dan gave a light roll of his eyes and bid his goodbyes, shoving his hands into his pockets as well and making his way inside.
The taller Humphrey huffed, shaking his head. He was definitely regretting ever saying yes to this walk. Now he would have to take the entire journey back, alone and cold.
At least he'd gotten his exercise before he could spend the rest of his day off catching up with his Father, who had already demanded the length of his son's day.
But as Luke spun on his heel, blowing out a breath, his eyes met the soft, dark brown ones that he still remembered seeing for the first time. Even if that was years ago now. Nearly a whole decade, actually.
Her lips were parted, eyes slightly rounded in size for some reason, as she stared back.
Did he have something on his face?
He immediately moved to take a wipe at his cheek, self-conscious that he looked any form of an idiot in front of her.
"Hey," Luke said at the same time, greeting her with a warmth that he'd not even been speaking to his own brother with. But when she said nothing, one hand clutching the side of her bright purse, he asked with concern, "You okay, Blair?"
"Huh?" Was all she managed for a second.
The step closer that he took seemed to snap her out of her dazed state.
"Right," She cleared her throat, head coming up higher as her stare turned into an eye-ball, "What were you —" Her hand comes up, finger pointing, "Two just talking about?"
"What?" Luke asks, looking to where her finger is pointing toward the front of her work, "You mean, me and Dan? Nothing important. Just. . ." He wasn't sure how to admit that his brother hadn't been speaking greatly about her. "Just stuff about your internship, that Dan also has."
Blair furrows her brows, and just over her shoulder, he can see where her limo is still parked by the side-walk. "So, you weren't just talking about me taking the time to sabotage your brother?"
What?
That was certainly not what Luke had been saying, at least. He had said the opposite, but to admit that would be to admit that his brother had been saying that instead, and it was Dan who was working alongside her.
Her disappointment shone brightly and Luke wanted to tell the truth. instead, the silence that drilled between them momentarily made all background noise fizzle out, as if that didn't matter between them.
When her eyes glance away, Luke shifts in his footing. It's a natural instinct to do whenever he's lying and he notices immediately when her gaze pings towards his legs.
"Were you really just about to take the fall for your idiotic brother?"
This time when he looks at her, the disappointment had gone away, and there's something else there mixed with the playfulness that she owed in possession.
Blair had something about her that just radiated. Luke had always fallen victim to her charms.
"Did I really have a choice?" He jokes back slightly, hoping she wasn't too angry at him for it. By the seems of her face, she wasn't.
In fact, she even cracks a smile, stepping closer. "You defended me." Blair shakes her head slightly, "And you weren't even going to tell me that you defended me to save face for your brother."
( And there she had been, only some weeks ago, chasing after Chuck Bass.
Even though she'd been drawn to Luke since the day he held the door open for her. )
"I always knew you were the only hope of the Humphrey brood," Blair pitches in jokingly, unable to help herself. She's glad to hear his laugh at that, even though the small shake of his head disagrees with it in a serious note. "Thank you."
His shoulders come up and down in a soft shrug, not wishing for gratitude. He'd not defended her to be given something back. He'd simply down it because he believed in her growth. In the fact that she cared for her work now more than ever.
"Why don't I thank you over —"
"I don't want you to feel like you owe me something for something so. . ." Little, he cuts himself off but finishes his words in his head, unsure on how that sounded out loud. "My brother's just an overthinking idiot sometimes. He means nothing by it, really. He doesn't."
"Daniel Humphrey is the least of my concerns," Blair finalises, and Luke blinks, taken back by the seriousness of her tone. She spots his surprise, masking a gentle touch of a smile behind a smirk as her hair falls over her shoulder with the sudden movement of leaning to her side. "And I had no plans to sabotage him. . ."
The sound of beeping knocks Luke out of his amusement, head turning to the ongoing traffic, and the pick-up of business with more people travelling to their work destinations.
"Why don't we go out for a drink sometime?" Blair then blurts out, the words swirling in her mouth for a little before she can no longer hold them back or swallow the letters down.
The brightness of his blue eyes had always captured her attention, even across the room. Even when she'd tried to stick it out beside Nate, lost her virginity to Chuck, been betrayed in different ways by them, Blair had always found herself searching for Luke's gaze.
The blue of his eyes had always made her calm. Like she was capable of conversation outside of holding back or having to think of another scheme to keep one's attention.
And that smile.
( Luke thought she was the prettiest girl he'd ever seen. The melt of her stare, the darkness of her curls, the way she knew how to walk and talk and capture all the room's attention.
And her smile. )
The way he grins at her with a brightness has already made Blair's day.
"It's a date."
We need to talk about how the gossip girl, gilmore girls, pretty little liars, and vampire diaries fandom completely disregard DISGUSTING characters like chuck and ezra just because "he changed" yet HATE characters such as jenny and aria because "she's ____"
Why do you guys defend rapists and child predators so much? Does the thought of an attractive man being a horrible person derail your societal expectations? Does it "not count" if chuck bass tried raping jenny humphrey because "she knew what she was doing" "it didn't actually happen"
Not to mention how you poke fun at male sexual assualt, you call vile people "icons" and then turn it around and say "we cant have fun anymore."
IT NEVER WAS FUN! Your cherry picking of whats right and wrong affects people!
Little girls and boys who have gone through bullying, assualt, trauma will see this and think that it was okay, that it was normal, that they were overreacting.
Why is it valid to hate Dean yet not Jess? Up until the events of season 4, Dean was not perfect, of course, he was bratty and stubborn and had weird fucking views on how to build a household, but he was kind and polite to Rory's grandparents, he took her to a fancy restaurant for their 3 month anniversary, he made her a bracelet, he defended her at her dance, with her mother, etc.
Jess did none of that. You know what Jess did do? Jess brought Rory to a room, where he put her on a bed, went all handsy and got pissed when Rory didn't want to have sex.
But he's smart and quirky so it's okay, right?
Also, Ezra and Aria's relationship is DISGUSTING. Where is your common sense? Yes there is a power imbalance in the teacher/student relationship. But let me tell you a better reason to hate Ezria: SHE'S 16. UNDERAGE. ILLEGAL. SHE'S NOT MATURE FOR HER AGE, AND YOU AREN'T MATURE FOR YOUR AGE EITHER!
In conclusion;
Stop-justifying-men's-shitty-actions-just-because-they're-hot
“bad idea, right? is a punk pop track that follows the events of olivia lying to her friends—who would otherwise object to rodrigo’s eponymous bad idea—about leaving a party to see her ex-boyfriend. her emotive lyrics ponder on whether the pair can rekindle their love for each other, and she decides to see the outcome.”
Much “I Do” About Nothing
Tumblr media
PREVIOUSLY on Gossip Girl:
SPOTTED: Jenny Humphrey wearing her bratty perfume. What a horrible scent. What was it called again? Bratty opium? Ew. I think i might pass out. Whining about her circumstances, which can so easily be changed. What a shame. Take a look at THIS.
Jenny: “Dad, Dad!! I wanna go to fashion school! But i’m not bothered to persist, so i guess i just won’t go……”
Rufus: *Shaking his head as he holds a plate of waffles in his hand*
Hey Upper East Siders. Gossip Girl here.
Your number one source into the Scandalous lives of Manhattan’s elite.
They say a leopard can’t change his spots. But some things do change. Only if you want them to. And not taking the right path could turn into a long road trip. And you don’t want that, do you?
Well if you ask me, with all your procrastination, it seems like you do. Be careful what you “wish” for. You wouldn’t be wishing for something you already have, would you?
Some people might take a step back and find out they were looking at the same big picture all along. Stop making the same mistakes and staying in an everlasting cycle of “failure”(which doesn’t even exist by the way, unless you accept it does).
We were all just like little J at some point. But then we took a few notes from Queen B. By becoming HER.
Walking down the clean streets of the upper east side on the way home should not take a long time. It only depends on how far back you’ve gone. It will only take you a long time if you walk as slow as a sloth. Which is a choice only YOU can make.
Somewhere over the rainbow, there is a pot of gold. And you just keep walking away from it. How……uhm, what was the word again? Oh, that’s right, DISAPPOINTING! But have it your way……i guess.
Moral of the story: Stop procrastinating. Or you will end up just like little J. Never getting what you want.
No but it’s like. Her daughter is effortless. Always has been, never seems to understand how much work she puts in. Her daughter is effortless, and she loves her, just as she is, but fuck, if Lily didn’t wish Serena would maybe try a little more.
Jenny Humphrey has clever eyes and something a little sad about her already, and Lily knows there’s a reason why Eric is best friends with this girl. Jenny bleaches her hair and tears her life to pieces and gets back up out of the ashes and she admires her for it, she’s proud of her for it, she can’t help but think of glaring down her mother as she took her to get that first tattoo removed.
Dan reminds Lily of his father, sometimes, of blinking awake and squinting at the dim yellow light to find Rufus hunched over the guitar in his lap and scribbling in a notebook because he woke up at two in the morning with lyrics in his mouth. Jenny makes her think about—
Lily doesn’t ever go down that road.
She has Alison’s smile, Rufus tells her once, and he knows that she’s always been jealous and even if she’s older now, doesn’t dig her nails into the back of his neck as she tugs him into a kiss right now immediately, he smirks like he can see her squirming to do just that.
Jenny has her own notebooks, scribbled designs and sharply crossed out ones. She tells Lily she doesn’t mind people looking in them and seems surprised when she actually does, when she asks her about one that she’d scratched out that she thinks had promise. She talks like she’s never had someone listen before.
Jenny never takes to calling her Mom and Lily doesn’t mind it at all, but something in her, secret and quiet and animal, feels that she’s always had two daughters.
Okay wait… dan & milo & ‘i made out with two chicks once in college.’
this got... long. i was like "oh it'll be just 2 paragraphs 300 words" but i forgot that milo is my achilles heel sdkslhgfkh. it's under a read more :3
"Dad, they're not..." Milo frowned. Shifted his hands around. "I'm not cheating on Gabrielle with Jonathan."
Dan thinks back to their own high school and college and young adult years, thinks of all the mistakes they've made. Cheating was something their friend group had become desensitized to doing to each other, despite how much it hurt to be on the receiving end. They'd sworn to be a better person with Milo, which is why they were here. Staging an intervention after they caught their kid kissing some random boy despite being in a long term relationship with that girl from his art elective, Gabrielle.
Dan liked Gabrielle. She was creative and rebellious and intelligent, perpetually reading scientific articles on her iPad, smoking up with Milo when she thought Dan wasn't looking. She reminded them a lot of Vanessa, but she had Nate's easygoing attitude - sometimes Dan thought if the two of them ever had a kid, their kid would've been just like Gabrielle.
"Okay, explain what I saw then," Dan says to Milo. Firm, but not angry. They'll be damned if they treat Milo how Rufus treated Jenny.
"Dad, I'm... we're..." Milo took a deep sigh. As if he was afraid. "Gabi and I are both dating Jonathan, too. We're polyamorous."
There were a million ways Dan could've imagined the situation playing out, but not like this. Never like this. They look at Milo, and they think about Blair and Nate's sage advice about threesomes. Then they think about Blair's messy break-up with Chuck and Nate's equally messy break-up with Chuck. They think about Vanessa and Olivia and how they're engaged to each other, and how Dan doesn't mind anymore, doesn't feel hurt or left out, but when they were younger, it'd felt like there was something about Dan that made them unlovable. It'd hurt.
"I'm sorry if you have a problem with it," Milo says, obstinate, jutting his chin out and scowling. He is so much like Jenny sometimes that it stuns Dan that there's no blood relation. Milo is a Humphrey through and through, in all the ways that matter.
Milo at seventeen is also a lot more emotionally mature and responsible than Dan or any of their friends had been at seventeen.
"I don't have a problem with it," Dan says. And then, because they don't know what else to say, "‘I made out with two chicks once in college."
"That is not even remotely the same thing, oh my god!" Milo exclaims, but he looks less tense-angry-scared, so Dan considers it a win.
"I had two girlfriends for maybe a week? Then they both broke up with me to be with each other," Dan says. Saying more wouldn't be right, given that the kid has a decent relationship with his Aunt Vanessa and her fiancee Olivia. "All my friends at the time told me polyamory was bound to fail. That it was a stupid choice."
Milo looks upset now, relief crumbling into the face of someone who is likely going to cry but trying to suppress it.
"That's not what I"m going to tell you, however," Dan says. "More people involved means more feelings can get hurt. But it also means that you can experience more - and not necessarily negatives. To love and be loved by two people is a wonderful thing, but to break two people's hearts or have your heart broken twice is sad and painful. All I can say is... treat each other with care, all three of you. And that I'm sorry I assumed you were cheating, when I've only seen you treat Gabi with respect. Thank you for telling me despite that."
Milo leans forward, and Dan's arms open, letting their kid fall into the embrace. They ignore Milo's small sniffles, the way he's shaking. He must've been really scared.
Dan wonders at themself. At what they should've done differently, to make it easier for Milo.
"I'm proud of you, kid," they say, and Milo clutches tighter, holds onto Dan like he never wants to let them go.
THE PRETTY RECKLESS Has 'A Lot' Of Music Written For Upcoming Fifth Album
Tumblr media
During an appearance on the May 6 episode of SiriusXM's "Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk", THE PRETTY RECKLESS singer Taylor Momsen was asked about the progress of the songwriting and recording sessions for the band's fifth album. She said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "I don't have [release] dates for you, but we booked — we've locked up the studio for eight months. It takes us a while to make a record. But it was going amazingly [before we paused the sessions in order to hit the road]. Hopefully when we pick back up in September, it'll be the same kind of flow and everything will just jell. But a lot of it's written. I'm sure that more will be written when these experiences happen and then new songs [arise] out of them. So I'm sure that there'll be some more songs coming. But I don't have dates. But it was going great, and we had just started; we really haven't started at all, but there's written stuff. So that's a start, I guess. But as far as recording, we hadn't really gotten into it yet."
This past January, THE PRETTY RECKLESS shared a photo of Taylor in the studio with Jonathan Wyman, who co-produced THE PRETTY RECKLESS's latest album, 2021's "Death By Rock And Roll", apparently confirming that Wyman has re-teamed with the group for the upcoming LP.
In a May 2023 interview with Ronni Hunter of the 99.7 The Blitz radio station, Momsen revealed that she and her THE PRETTY RECKLESS bandmates had commenced work on the follow-up to "Death By Rock And Roll".
"We're in a great headspace," she said. "We're just having fun with it, and wrapping up the tour cycle of 'Death By Rock And Roll'. And then new record — and it's next chapter. We've already kind of started it… We've gotten into a studio; we've stepped foot into a studio. So that's saying something for us."
THE PRETTY RECKLESS will support AC/DC on the legendary hard rock band's spring/summer 2024 European tour. Momsen and her bandmates will also open for THE ROLLING STONES this coming Saturday, May 11 at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.
In November 2022, THE PRETTY RECKLESS released a new collection of music, "Other Worlds", via Fearless Records. The effort saw the group delivering its first proper acoustic recordings, unexpected covers and other reimaginings.
"Death By Rock And Roll" was made available in February 2021 via Fearless Records in the U.S. and Century Media Records in the rest of the world.
Upon release, "Death By Rock And Roll" topped multiple sales charts — including Billboard's Top Albums, Rock, Hard Music, and Digital charts. The record also yielded three back-to-back No. 1 singles — "Death By Rock And Roll", "And So It Went" (featuring Tom Morello of RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE) and "Only Love Can Save Me Now" (featuring Kim Thayil and Matt Cameron of SOUNDGARDEN). The band has tallied seven No. 1 singles at the rock format throughout its career.
"Death By Rock And Roll" was THE PRETTY RECKLESS's first album to be made without longtime producer Kato Khandwala, who died in April 2018 from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.
THE PRETTY RECKLESS formed in 2009 and consists of Momsen, guitarist Ben Phillips, bassist Mark Damon and drummer Jamie Perkins.
In 2021, Momsen — who rose to fame portraying the character of edgy little sister Jenny Humphrey on The CW's "Gossip Girl" — described "Death By Rock And Roll" in an interview with ABC Audio as a "battle cry for life and for hope."
"I think that that's something that we can all use a little bit more of, especially right now," she said. "We could always use a little more hope, and we could always use a little more rock and roll."
Empire of Secrets
(nate archibald) (introduction)
Claire Sutton
Spotted: Claire Sutton, Upper East Side’s so-called sweetheart with a heart of gold—or is it gold-plated? Behind those doe eyes and perfect brunette waves lies a girl who’s just as good at playing the game as the rest of us. How else could she snag Nate Archibald right out from under Blair Waldorf’s nose?
Queen B's claws are out, and Little J got her sewing machine ready to stitch up C's downfall.
Tick-tock, Claire. Your time at the top could be up very soon.
Nate Archibald
Spotted: Nate Archibald, the golden boy with a reputation as shiny as his smile—or is it just a well-polished facade? Behind that charming exterior lies a man who’s played more than his fair share of hearts. How else could he juggle Blair, Serena, and now Claire without a single scratch?
But not everyone’s impressed. Blair’s fuming, Serena’s lurking, and Jenny and Vanessa are sharpening their knives. They may not have Nate’s heart, but they’re all too eager to make sure Claire’s downfall is spectacular.
Tick-tock, Nate. Your perfect world’s about to come crashing down.
Blair Waldorf
Spotted: Blair Waldorf, the queen who refuses to be dethroned—even if it means burning the entire Upper East Side to the ground.
After losing Nate to Claire (can you imagine?), Blair’s not just plotting her revenge, she’s practically redecorating her life with destruction. Every glare, every whispered word—she’s got a plan, and that plan involves making sure Claire doesn’t survive the fallout.
But don’t worry, Blair’s not heartless, she’ll make sure everyone else gets burned along the way. Who needs true love when you have a kingdom to ruin?
Tick-tock, Blair. The world’s about to feel your wrath, and it’s going to be delicious.
Serena van der Woodsen
Serena van der Woodsen, the blonde bombshell with a reputation for making hearts—and lives—explode.
You thought she was laying low? Ha, think again. Serena’s been watching all this drama unfold from the sidelines, biding her time, and now? Now, she’s ready to swoop in and take what’s rightfully hers.
Forget about the good girl act; Serena’s about to remind everyone just how chaotic and calculating she can be. Nate? He’s on her radar. Claire? Pfft, just another obstacle.
Serena’s been waiting for the perfect moment to strike, and darling, it’s coming. And when it does, trust me, it’ll be a blowout of epic proportions.
Jenny Humphrey
Jenny Humphrey, the girl who so desperately wants to be the queen, but doesn’t realize she’s still the pawn.
Jenny’s been running around in her little couture dresses pretending she’s all grown up, but newsflash, sweetie: the Upper East Side doesn’t just hand out power.
Jenny might think she’s playing a game, but it’s more like she’s playing with fire—and trust me, she’s about to get burned. No one cares that you’re the underdog, Little J. You can’t take down Blair just by sewing yourself a fancy new outfit.
So go ahead, keep making your little power moves, because they’ll make for one spectacular fall. Can’t wait for the headline.
Dan Humphrey
Dan Humphrey, the outsider who thinks he’s somehow better than the chaos he’s so eagerly wrapped up in.
Dan’s been pretending to be the moral one in the group, the one who doesn’t play the dirty games the rest of us do—except when he’s playing them, and then acting all surprised when the consequences hit.
Oh, Dan. Don’t pretend you don’t love the drama. You’ve been tangled in every love affair, scandal, and backstabbing this city has to offer, and now? Now, he’s too deep to get out. He thinks he’s above it, but guess what, Humphrey? You’re part of it now—and just wait for the moment you realize you’re in way over your head.
Here’s a little spoiler: it’s coming soon.
Chuck Bass
Chuck Bass, the Upper East Side’s charming devil with a trust fund the size of his ego and a moral compass that’s permanently on vacation. While Nate’s busy perfecting his golden boy act and Claire’s still pretending she’s too good for the drama, Chuck’s out here playing everyone like a grand piano. Blair may think she’s pulling the strings, but Chuck’s already rewriting the script. Serena? Let’s just say she’s a little too comfortable in Chuck’s orbit, and Jenny? Poor Little J is clawing her way to the top without realizing Chuck’s handing her a shovel to dig her own grave.
And Nate? Sweet, loyal Nate. Chuck’s favorite hobby is sprinkling chaos into his best friend’s love life, because what are friends for if not a little harmless sabotage? As for Dan Humphrey—Brooklyn’s very own Captain Morality—Chuck’s got one word for him: amateur. Whether he’s mocking Dan’s self-righteous act or dangling secrets just out of reach, Chuck knows exactly how to remind him he’s out of his depth.
Chuck’s just lit the match, and you can bet he’ll be sipping scotch while the rest of you burn. You know you love him.
Tick-tock, Upper East Siders. The chaos is about to hit its peak, and trust me, no one’s walking away unscathed. This show? It’s just getting started. You know you love me. XOXO, Gossip Girl.
eh, just a little character description for my cute little story, right..?
Safe and Protected (poly alpha Non-Judging Breakfast Club x gn omega reader)
Summary: your packmates comfort and take care of you after you get into a fight with another omega
Tumblr media
Warnings: a/b/o dynamics (alphas Serena, Blair, Nate, and Chuck/omega reader), hurt/comfort, mentions of injuries due to fighting (I also go into extensive history of a/b/o fighting techniques/backstory that I completely made up on the spot), they/them pronouns used to refer to the reader in a gn manner
A/N: apparently my life has come to me writing a/b/o fanfiction when I'm upset. why does that somehow not surprise me
Tumblr media
The members of your pack were spread out across the city when they got the text from Dan saying that they needed to meet him at their shared penthouse ASAP because it was an emergency. Usually they'd just ignore him (it was Dan, after all) but the moment he mentioned you were involved they dropped everything and quickly rushed over.
Blair was naturally the first through the door, followed quickly on her heels by Chuck. As the most protective of the group, it would make sense that they were leading the investigation to figure out what was wrong. Nate and Serena were equally worried but hung back a little, not wanting to rush in right away if they didn't know what was wrong first.
"What's happening? Where are they?" Blair demanded the moment she saw Dan, the smell of distressed omega permeating his clothing. The pack instantly recognized the scent as yours, which only heightened their worry.
"Look, just try to remain calm-" He began, but she was having none of it.
"Do not tell me to calm down right now, Humphrey. I'm not in the mood to take orders from you of all people," she snapped, her nostrils flaring as her eyes narrowed. Chuck rested a reassuring hand on her shoulder when he noticed the way Dan was starting shrink back a little, the omega clearly frightened by such an angry display.
"What she means to say is that we're worried," Nate piped up from behind them, the Golden Boy often reliable when it came to being the voice of reason in situations such as these. "And we want to know what's going on."
Dan nodded his head in understanding, taking a moment or so before speaking again. "They... got into a fight with another omega. One who was making fun of Jenny." He gave up the information rather reluctantly, not quite sure what their reactions would be to finding out something like that.
Safe to say, they were all fairly shocked. Fights between alphas were the most common and fairly brutal, and fights with betas happened only occasionally and had pretty tame results. While fights among omegas weren't completely unheard of, it was still surprising when they took place, especially when one or both of the parties involved ended up seriously hurt.
Omegas typically weren't able to hold their own weight against an alpha or even a beta, but with the even footing of fighting against a fellow omega gave them the advantage point to use something they didn't get to very often: the primal instincts that went with their untapped rage.
That was one of the reasons why alpha and beta fight rings were fairly common but ones with omegas weren't, because when they fought they didn't fight for fun or to assert their dominance or to try to prove something. They fought out of pure fury, and in certain situations it could result in pretty graphic injuries that caused at least one of the people involved to end up needing to be hospitalized.
With taking all of this into consideration, it was really no wonder why Dan had been reluctant to share with them what really happened.
"Who was it?" Serena asked curiously, unable to view such a sweet and good-natured omega like yourself initiating a fight like that.
"I'm not sure. It was someone who use to model for Jenny before she fired them. They've already been taken to the hospital just as a precaution."
All four of the alpha's jaws dropped when hearing that. You sent another omega to the hospital?
"Where are they now?" Blair demanded in reference to you, her instinct to protect growing stronger than ever before.
"Hiding in their nest. They wouldn't let me take them anywhere to get their injuries looked at. They just said they wanted their pack." He led them further into the penthouse somewhat reluctantly, the smell of your distress even stronger than before. It was hanging in the air so thickly, they could practically taste it, and it only got worse the closer they got to your bedroom.
The sound of rustling and faint whimpers could be heard coming from behind the door, giving just a glimpse of the current agony you must've been in. Your packmates hesitated, even Blair looking much less confident than usual. Still, she forced herself to act, carefully turning the knob and opening the door to your room.
The first thing that hit them was the rather potent smell, and they realized from it that you weren't just scared, you were angry, too. Your nest was even more of a mess than usual, and your huddled up form could just barely be seen underneath all the blankets in the dim lighting.
"Sweetheart?" Blair spoke up after a moment or so, carefully approaching the nest so she wouldn't scare you. When you lifted your head up, she could see the cuts and bruises on your face, and judging from what she already heard from Dan she had no doubt the rest of you looked just about the same.
"Blair," you faintly croaked, reaching a hand out to her. She let out a soft gasp at the sight of it; the cuts there were pretty hard to miss.
"Oh my God," Nate muttered somewhere behind her as he caught a glimpse of you. If this is how you looked, they'd hate to see the omega you'd put into the hospital.
"Hey, come here," Blair muttered while getting in the nest with you, not caring if her outfit got dirty or messed up. Right now, you were far more important.
You seemed even more fragile than usual as you curled up beside her, her hands moving to gently cup your face so she could assess the damage done there. "What happened?" She softly asked, the rest of the pack slowly beginning to creep in after her.
"There was another omega who was spreading lies about Jenny," you muttered, your hands shaking slightly due to the leftover adrenaline still coursing through your body. "They- they were saying that they couldn't believe a beta of all people had such a popular fashion line, and that she must've gotten it by sleeping around."
Someone could be heard sucking in a breath of surprise, though you couldn't tell who. It might've been all of them. The things said about Jenny or even betas in general weren't exactly surprising given the nature of the people living on the Upper East Side, but judging from what your reaction had been to it they got the feeling what they said was much worse than that and you were purposely leaving out parts to your story. Still, they didn't want to push.
"My sweet baby," Serena cooed as she moved to join you in the nest. Usually Blair wouldn't be too keen to share, but she couldn't refuse Serena from comforting you when you clearly need it. "You're shaking, poor thing."
"We need to get them cleaned up," Blair announced suddenly, capturing the attention of the other alphas in the room. "Nate, go start running a bath for them. Chuck, I'll need you to carry them in there. Serena, you're going to help me get there nest fixed so it's not a mess anymore. And if Dan's still here, have him make them something to eat."
Your packmates thought it best not to argue with her and each got to work on each of their given tasks. Chuck carefully picked you up off the bed and carried you into the bathroom while Nate ran the water for your bath, Serena and Blair staying behind to fix the mess your nest had been made of when you were upset.
Luckily, the strong pheromones being emitted by your alphas had done their job of keeping you calm and relaxed, so you were pretty complacent during the whole thing, allowing Chuck to help you get undressed for your bath before Nate carefully cleaned off your scrapes and cuts once you were in it.
Blair appeared in the doorway to the bathroom when you were almost done, Serena close behind her. "Go make sure Dan prepared the right thing for them, and if he's still here tell him to leave. We can take over from here," she instructed Chuck and Nate, who both simply nodded and left for the kitchen without another word.
"My poor baby," Serena muttered while kneeling down beside the tub, reaching out to cup your cheeks with her hands. You gladly leaned into her touch, nuzzling into her palms in an affectionate manner. "Nate and Chuck took such good care of you, didn't they?"
"Serena," Blair suddenly spoke, her tone sounding a little stern. "There will be more time to baby them later. Right now, we need to get them out of the tub and dry them off before the water gets cold."
The blonde let out an annoyed huff in response but complied regardless, letting go of your face and getting up off the floor. The two helped you out of the tub and dried you off with big, fluffy towels before getting you dressed in some clean and comfortable clothes.
Dan was already gone by the time you left the bathroom, which was probably for the best with how everyone was being more protective than usual given what had happened, especially Blair. Your injuries hadn't been bad enough to need urgent medical care, but it was obvious from the way you looked you were going to be sore for the next few days.
"How are you feeling? Are you doing okay?" Nate gently asked as you curled up next to him, your packmates surrounding you on all sides as you rested in your now clean nest.
"Yeah," you quietly confirmed, allowing Serena to feed you a little bit of food so you could build your strength back up again.
"You took a hell of a beating," Chuck mused out loud, his hand rubbing your back in a comforting manner while he spoke. "But from what we heard, the other person looked a hell of a lot worse."
"Chuck!" Blair hissed out in a scolding tone, lightly smacking him on the arm. "Don't encourage this kind of behavior! They really could've gotten hurt."
He rolled his eyes while mumbling out a vague "sorry" that didn't make it seem like he was very sorry at all.
You just giggled as you watched the interaction, no longer upset like you were before. They were glad to see that your mood had improved, and each one of them hoped this would be both the first and last time you ever fought with somebody. After all, you were their baby, and they hated to see you get hurt like that.
"I'm tired," you mumbled after finishing your food, letting out a yawn that did nothing but strengthen your case.
"Lay down, baby. We won't go anywhere," Serena said before pressing a gentle kiss to your cheek.
At her gentle encouragement, you laid down in your nest and cuddled up with your packmates, getting as comfortable as possible. The warmth of their hold combined with the way their scents filled the air only made you feel drowsier, which aided in helping you quickly drift off to sleep, safe and protected in your alphas' arms.
Yandere/dark! beta! Jenny Humphrey x alpha! reader; she can't help but love you despite her low status
Tw: yandere/dark content, gender neutral reader, a/b/o dynamics (alpha reader/beta Jenny), obsessive behavior, mild stalking, mentions of taking drugs to force having a unnatural heat, this is pretty tame as far as these type of fics go
A/N: two posts in one day is so crazy what a treat for y'all lmao
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Jenny loved you. She loved you despite being only a beta from Brooklyn who in no way stood a chance with an alpha from the Upper East Side. You were always so nice to her despite being friends with Blair, voluntarily modeling her latest designs and always being there for her if she needed it. How could she not love you?
It was hard to stay away from you, even after she fell out of favor with the UES crowd. She liked to tail you around the city, your strong scent making it quite easy to follow you and her lack of one making it easier to avoid being caught.
Sometimes she'd "accidentally" bump into you, using the excuse of checking out the nearby fabric shops so it wouldn't seem as suspicious that she wasn't in Brooklyn. You always knew she was there on purpose, but played along anyway so she wouldn't feel bad about how easily you'd picked up on the real reason she was in the city.
The truth was, you felt overly protective when it came to Jenny. You were well aware of just how cruel alphas could be, especially on the Upper East Side, and her pretending to be one for the short time that she did certainly didn't help win her any favors.
Even if you weren't fully aware of how deep her obsession with you ran, it was hard not to notice the little crush she had. You thought the way she always sought you out whenever attending events or galas and how she clung to you the whole night so another alpha wouldn't be able to mess with her was cute, and it made you want to protect her even more.
Maybe it wasn't exactly your best move to allow her to live with you, but she insisted on staying in Manhattan and there was no way you could ever risk her getting hurt if she chose to stay by herself. If that happened, you'd never be able to forgive yourself for it. (And Dan wouldn't either as he trusted you to keep her safe.)
The two of you grew closer over the time you spent sharing a penthouse, Jenny becoming more and more obsessed with you in a way that wasn't healthy or natural. After all, it made much more sense for an omega to be clingy with the alpha of their choice and vice versa, but for a beta to become so attached to someone who wasn't another beta was quite unheard of.
She was so desperate to get you to love her back that she started taking some meds she got off Damien that were supposed to help give betas something similar to an omega's heat. Of course it backfired because omegas didn't have strong scent glands nor could they produce slick, so all it did was leave her needy and uncomfortable for the week or so that it lasted.
When you found out about it, you weren't angry like she thought you'd be, just worried. How could you be so blind as to not see what was right in front of you? It should've been obvious that she wanted to take you as a mate.
You gently reassured her that she didn't need to take anything to try to alter the natural way her body worked and that you'd be honored to be her mate... as soon as you had a discussion with her family, that was.
Dan giving her his blessing to be with you was the greatest day of her life. Never had she felt a love like this ever before, not with Nate, not with Damien, not with anyone but you. Even though her scent glands were weak due to being a beta, you still marked her anyway so everyone could know that you were hers and that she was yours.
From then on, she no longer had to worry about facing the shun or scorn from the Upper East Side's elite because she had you there to be by her side every step of the way. And everyone knew better than to mess with an alpha's mate, even if that mate was a beta. It was all she ever wanted in life, and now it was finally hers.
