Mion Sonozaki/Rika Furude: For Higurashi fans: please read Hinamizawa Bus Stop! It's the original story before Higurashi, the script of a play that Ryukishi failed to stage. He reworked his ideas into the visual novel medium, and the rest is history.

It's the story of two girls, called Mion and Rika, who wait for a bus that's not coming. They meet several people at the stop, we discover that there is a dam project that could overflow the village where they live, and that there is a curse killing people working for the project (does it ring some bells?).

The script was adapted into VN and Manga, and it's extremely good!! And most importantly...

Need the community’s opinion on this one😬

I just read Ariadne by Jennifer Saint and I loved it and I really can’t imagine the story being told any other way so I’m scared to read the original versions.

Im thinking of basing my practice around some of the retellings in conjunction with the original stories.

I think if I read both I can take all the parts that make sense of both and have that be what I base my beliefs on.

I figure that mythologies have always changed over time to fit the needs of the culture.

So, why can’t I just go by the most current retellings.

(The well researched retellings I mean. I’m not basing my shit off of Percy Jackson lol)
