alright, as requested and promised, my explanations for why everyone on side b got into the tourney

once again making the note that i was desperate for women that weren't blatantly written by a misogynist and it influenced a couple choices

starting with the most argued about characters again

mob (mp100): 1 submission, good description. "he has powers he can't be just some guy!" NOT WHAT THIS TOURNEY IS ABOUT. mob is a kid. he's just a kid doing his best. like the whole plot of mp100 is that he's just some kid isn't it??? i haven't watched it i can't argue the details but he is a very good example of just some guy

rung (transformers): 1 submission, good description. submitter got extra points for being the longest submission and being so sweet to me. rung is like, God, or something but he doesnt Know That so he's just living a perfectly normal life. he's so average people regularly forget who he is or what his name is. from the submission, "He's just the definition of 'some random kind guy you bump into in the hall and then completely forget about two hours later' I really don't know how to explain it."

han solo (star wars): 2 submissions. its like his whole thing. the rest of the team is a princess, a jedi, man i don't know the rest i haven't watched star wars in years but they are all supremely not some guy, and han's just some cunt with a van to drive them around in. yeah he's got his own shit going on but also. i dont remember how it actually went down but he really feels like he just stumbled into the plot and now he can't leave

carol kohl (cateotw): 1 submission, good description. the description really moved me and i have GOT to watch this show at some point. carol lives on an earth that's going to end in a few months and everyone is trying to make their last months exciting and happy and getting to do what they've always wanted to. what carol wants to do is keep working an office job and continuing her routine. the show does not shame her for this, it's just who she is. and man..... as a chronically ill person who's had to think about that kind of thing. that really hits hard.

jaehee (mystic messenger): 1 submission. the woman situation is fucking dire. i will admit she seems to be written the way she is because of misogyny n shit but at least this submitter actually acknowledged it. mystic messenger is i believe a dating game and her route involves dealing with her shitty boss and quitting her job. the other routes have fucking wild shit going on but jaehee just quits work

paul matthews (guy who didnt like musicals): guaranteed entry

emma perkins (guy who didnt like musicals): 3 submissions. one person described her and paul as "guy4guy" and i was so enamored with this concept i gave her a guaranteed position. she works at a coffee shop and seems to not give a fuck that she's in a musical and needs to sing. major "i cant wait to clock out and go home" vibes

usopp (one piece): 1 submission, friend bias. i will be honest you i avoid one piece at all costs but he gets a pass for my buddy. unfortunately none of the info they gave me actually stuck in my brain so my explanation is gonna suck ass but he seems very scared and very weak compared to everyone else and everyone knows he's the just some guy of the group

peter sqloint (jrwi): 1 submission. i have listened to a bit of this and while i did have to put it down cause it wasn't really my thing, peter must've made an impression on me because the Only Things i can remember from what i listened to was just how bizarrely normal peter is. yes he has the angel of retribution inside him urging him to kill the gods but his life goal is to buy a new log for his pet lizard and his job is to sort rocks and its his favorite thing. sometimes you have to wonder if peter is even aware of whats going on or if he is too busy thinking about cool rocks to notice

cabbage merchant (atla): 3 submissions. i dont care. but very few characters actually got 3 submissions so i let him in. i was trying to avoid characters that clearly just existed for a bit or are simply background characters with nothing else going on (they count as just some guy but its just not as interesting to me) but he made it in anyways.

marta cabrera (knives out): 1 submission and that submission was ME because im THE ONLY PERSON WHO GETS IT (/silly). i cannot fucking believe no one else submitted her im so fucking mad her being just some guy is literally the entire point. spoilers for knives out, SHE'S A GOOD DOCTOR. Hayden Christensen (THR).

Darth Vader team (MSW, Bespin Bulletin), voiced by James Earl Jones AI. Fully suited Darth Vader will exclusively be played by Tom O’Connel. Tom O’Connel is being fitted for a new Darth Vader suit (different than the one used for Obi-Wan Kenobi last year). MSW

Marrok (Inquisitor): Once an Inquisitor hunting Jedi for the Empire, the mysterious Marrok now works as a mercenary hired by Morgan Elsbeth to carry out dark deeds. Fully encased in battered battle armor, the warrior still carries a red double-bladed saber with a circular hilt.

Shin Hati: The eager apprentice of Baylan Skoll, Shin Hati is adept at lightsaber combat, a skill she uses in their work as mercenaries allied to Morgan Elsbeth, the former Magistrate of Calodan.

[Note: The Illuminerdi said Ivanna plays "Astrid" - "A formidable mercenary who must now decide between two paths. Astrid can either follow the path of her unit or take hold of her own aspiration in service of her own glory". This implies Shin will have to decide between following Baylan or betraying him].

Baylan Skoll: Baylan Skoll is lightsaber-wielding mercenary for hire overseeing his apprentice Shin Hati. But make no mistake: although there was a time when Skoll knew the acclaimed Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker, Baylan is no Jedi. Now allied to Morgan Elsbeth, the former Magistrate of Calodan, after the fall of the Jedi and the Empire, Skoll remains a shrewd fighter in search of power who believes that another war is inevitable.

Magistrate Morgan Elsbeth: The coldhearted former Magistrate of Calodan, Morgan Elsbeth is an ally of Grand Admiral Thrawn and an enemy of the New Republic. A formidable fighter with a mysterious past, Elsbeth once hunted Ahsoka Tano on the world of Corvus before she was bested in battle and arrested for acting as an Imperial sympathizer.

Plot

Structure (MSW)

Ahsoka will have a midseason time-jump. The Rebels epilogue takes place in the middle of the season, and the season is like 2 different parts (four episodes each).

The first part of Ahsoka has New Republic centric-content which will feature Mothma. The first half of Ahsoka is a story about a failing New Republic, Ahsoka's warnings are ignored, and about Sabine.

The second part is finding Ezra and Thrawn. (MSW)

The "New Beyond" & Skeleton Crew

The Ahsoka show is gonna introduce concepts that are gonna be explored in Skeleton Crew. (MSW)

After Rebels, Thrawn and Ezra end up in a completely new and unexplored area of the universe, of which he calls ''The New Beyond” or “New Space'' until an official name is revealed. This region views and uses the Force differently, and magic users in the Star Wars universe we have seen before (like the nightsisters), originate from this place, and we have seen outcasts from there in past SW stories. Both Ivanna Sakhno and Diana Lee Inosanto's (Morgan Elsbeth) characters have a connection to this place. (MSW)

World Between Worlds, Vader battle & different Ahsokas

The World Between Worlds is in Ahsoka too. (MSW)

We will get glimpses of Tano in other times and eras via The World Between Worlds. There is a version of Ahsoka in her late teens, one for another undisclosed time (might be present day Ahsoka in terms of the narrative itself), and finally for the version we saw in the final moment of Rebels in her white robes. (MSW)

Ahsoka will fight “Darth Vader” (Vader being dark side Anakin, not necessarily in the Vader suit) in more than one way and Hayden Christensen required some training for a sequence in the series because we will see his face again on screen, wearing the same costume he wore on Mustafar in Revenge of the Sith. (MSW)

We will see many possible outcomes for Ahsoka’s life and how in essence, no matter what, they all lead to a particular moment in her story. If Ahsoka had returned to the Jedi Order, she would be the one fighting Darth Vader on Mustafar having the high ground, not Obi-Wan Kenobi, because what happened had to happen, to get Tano to where she and the Skywalkers needed to be. Hayden Christensen filmed fight scenes with Clone Wars Ahsoka in this scenario. (MSW)

Through the World Between Worlds, it seems present day Ahsoka will learn that Anakin Skywalker was destined to take the path he did and we the audience will see aspects of those outcomes and in some of them we see live action Clone Wars era Ahsoka Tano played by a new actor in a duel with her former Jedi Master, taking the place of Obi-Wan Kenobi in this reality that never was. To be clear, these are glimpses or small sequences and Dawson will play Ahsoka during the majority of the story. (MSW)

Ahsoka will also see other visions in these sequences. Had Ahsoka killed Thrawn and Ezra Bridger did not need to use the Purrgil, Ahsoka’s destiny remained the same. The lesson for Tano appears to be that she cannot change her destiny and instead she must embrace it. (MSW)

Ezra & Sabine

Ezra and Sabine have action scenes together (MSW).

MSW heard about a sequence in Ahsoka where Ezra uses the Force in a way compared to Luke Skywalker shattering the Beehive Hut on Ahch-To when he catches Rey talking with Kylo. However, the difference is one source saying and others confirming Ezra “hadoukens” with the Force. (MSW)

Sabine Wren uses Ezra's lightsaber. There are sequences with Sabine using the lightsaber with Ezra Bridger. It is not clear if Ezra gets another laser sword at some point or just finally takes his lightsaber back from her but she’s usually using it. (MSW)

Ezra developed his own martial arts based Force powers, not unlike Teras Kasi, but his own style. This martial arts style coupled with his connection to animals makes him an interesting take on a Force user on screen as he uses his hands, feet, the Force and nature to beat up undead Stormtroopers. We will have sequences where Baylon, Shin, have red sabers, Morgan Elsbeth and the witches standing off against Ahsoka with her two white lightsabers, Sabine with the green saber, and Ezra doing Force karate. (MSW)

Sabine will duel Shin with her red rapier laser sword while Ashoka Tano will fight Baylon’s red claymore lightsaber. The duel happens concurrently while Ezra fights Stromtroopers with his force Karate in the Nodian Highlands.

Elsbeth was extracting resources from the planet to build a ship capable of bringing Grand Admiral Thrawn back to the core worlds (ship or TIE fighters - some project to bring back Thrawn)

Baylon and Shin are in the core worlds initially and allied with Elsbeth. They are in both parts of the series. Baylon is dedicated to the mission to extract Thrawn and bring him home.

Thrawn has a new bodyguard named Enoch - MSW says looks like a "golden Destro from G.I. Joe with Samurai influences". They also have a new cyborg/droid character named Carnast.

Ahsoka and Sabine follow the Nightsister and her allies to Thrawn

A large fight will take place in a location that could be called "The Nodian Highlands." (MSW)

Kintsugi (MSW)

*In Episode IX, Kylo Ren visits an ape named ​​Albrekh who fixes his armor (also an old MSW scroop). The mask is repaired using “Sarrassian iron.” The red iron is used to weld the red cracks of his armor together giving it that red veiny aesthetic.

*Ahsoka will riff on this aesthetic. Most of the Stormtroopers have been destroyed, their armor obliterated, much like Kylo’s helmet. However, instead of the red veins running through the rebuilt armor, these troopers have what has been described as “golden cracks” or “yellow veins” running through their exterior.

*The visual used in Episode IX is based on Kintsugi, a Japanese art which translates to “golden joinery.” Broken valuables use gold or silver to mend and join the broken pieces of antique or art. The process sees the breaks as part of the history of the object.

*MSW doubts it's “Sarrassian” as these troopers were “reforged” by The Nightsisters. MSW says: "In The Clone Wars, the Nightsisters of Dathomir had a green magic, but these are different Nightsisters from a new place and perhaps their magic is golden instead of green to match the Kintsugi look?"

*These troopers will be on the hunt, serving Thrawn, under the command of Baylon, but led into battle by the red sabered user named Shin. They will be tracking the reunited Ezra, Sabine, and Ahsoka.

*When the trio is finally reunited, they will face off against this new take on the Imperial Stormtrooper.

*Visually it will be a new evil Force user (Shin), red saber ignited and an armor with a battalion of reforged Stormtroopers with golden veins through their armor. Ahsoka, Sabine, and Ezra fleeing from them before being forced to fight.

The ending (MSW)

Ahsoka is basically The Empire Strikes Back of the “Mando Era”. The good guys fail in the end.

Ahsoka and Sabine inherit a secondary mission to stop Grand Admiral Thrawn and his cronies from returning to the core of the galaxy.

Thrawn returns to the main galaxy at the climax of the 8th and final episode of the season, with his forces all laid out before him. Thrawn revels in the moment, promising a reckoning is coming and ready to take on a faltering New Republic and take back the galaxy.

Most likely, the allies who sprung him from the far reaches of space have been a part of a power play he has had cooking for years.

The general consensus from those working on the show is that Ahsoka will have multiple seasons.

The story/cliffhanger will likely pick up in the second season of the series.

Looking at the grand scheme of things and the information MSW has been given, it’s likely that this attack/war is what will really allow the first order to rise.

My Thoughts on Tales of the Empire - A Discussion Post (PART 2)

I discussed Morgan's arc in Part 1 of my discussion, and now let's take a look back at Barriss Offee's arc during the Empire's reign.

Barriss awakens in her Republic jail cell in a cold sweat. She looks out her window towards the Jedi Temple, which is surrounded by fire. She yells for the guards' attention, asking them what is going on. The clones tell her to be glad she isn't a Jedi anymore, as they will not exist tomorrow. Barriss continues to look out her window, clueless that Order 66 has just been commenced.

The morning after the chaos, an individual Barriss knows as Lyn arrives to her cell, ready to take her away. Barriss doesn't understand where she is being taken, and is given the news that the Jedi tried to assassinate the Chancellor. Barriss exits the cell, entering the new world of the Empire.

Barriss arrives at a facility with two other individuals, whom she recognizes as Dante and Ahmar. One of the individuals with Barriss is voiced by Zeno Robinson, and as an Owl House fan, I immediately recognized Hunter's voice.

The Grand Inquisitor makes his appearance, addressing that now that the Jedi are gone and Palpatine is Emperor, it is up to them to create a new order for the protection of the Empire.

In their quarters, Ahmar discusses escaping. Dante is against it, but Ahmar doesn't listen. He leaves Dante and Barriss, leading himself to his fate.

Later, Barriss and Dante learn that Ahmar is gone, as he was caught by the Inquisitors. Lyn takes Dante, and the Grand Inquisitor keeps Barriss with him, leading her to a room.

The Grand Inquisitor tells Barriss to take a lightsaber and attack him, and Barriss hesitates at first. She attacks him, as the Grand Inquisitor tests her. The Inquisitor's words and attacks fuel Barriss's strength, as she uses the Force to throw him back, causing blood to spill.

Barriss and Dante are made to face against each other, fighting to survive. Barriss wins, and she is set to become another one of the Inquisitors. Lyn, Marrok, and the Inquisitor who attacked Ahsoka in Tales of the Jedi appear with Barriss, as the Grand Inquisitor introduces them to their master.

Darth Vader appears in a chilling entrance, sitting down on his throne. The Inquisitors kneel to their master, as Barriss puts the helmet on, claiming her new identity.

In the next part, Barriss and Lyn arrive on an outlandish planet, seeking a Jedi in hiding. Lyn approaches the townspeople and demands they reveal where the Jedi is hiding. While Lyn debates with them, Barriss discovers a small child and tries to talk to him. I originally thought that kid was Force-sensitive and Lyn was looking for him too, but my mind was going places. Barriss is gentle with the kid, while Lyn immediately attacks the town, killing everyone. Barriss protects the child, and Lyn does not kill him.

Lyn and Barriss find the Jedi and faces off against them. Barriss tries to reason without violence, but it leads to more chaos. Lyn injures the Jedi, and Barriss believes that this is not the right way. Barriss tells Lyn that she has another Jedi to deal with, and Lyn is thrown off a cliff.

Leaving behind the Inquisitors and the Empire as time passes, Barriss becomes a healer. A family comes seeking her help, and they tell her that the Empire had come for their child. Barriss understands why and offers to help them.

Barriss is informed that someone is coming, and Lyn resurfaces from after so long, finding Barriss. Barriss tells the others to leave and meet an old friend. I really hope it's Ahsoka she's talking about.

Barriss meets Lyn face to face as Lyn attacks her. I was not expecting Lyn to return at all. Barriss allows Lyn to head into the caves, giving her a warning that she will not be able to get out.

While in the caves, Barriss leads Lyn astray, messing with her head. The family manages to get to safety, while Lyn gets lost in the caves. She hears Barriss's voice over and over again and yells in anger, while Barriss tries to help her get on the right path.

Lyn strikes Barriss with her saber, as Barriss falls into her arms. I screamed at this part. Barriss says she forgives Lyn, and Lyn is overwhelmed with emotions. She hates it when Barriss calls her Lyn, and she thinks for a moment. Lyn decides to get Barriss out of the caves, making it out before the end.

I honestly did not like how Barriss's arc ended with a cliffhanger, I hope there's something set up to continue this in the future. Overall, I liked the start to Tales of the Empire, and I hope they do seasons showing animated backstories (or simply stories) of other characters like Thrawn and how he was taken into the Empire, and maybe Hemlock and how Palpatine took him in under his project. There can also be more Inquisitor stories, there's a lot of potential.

All of your friends had been telling you for months that Dom was into you, but you refused to believe it. “If he really does have feelings for me, he’ll tell me about it and we can go from there,” were words you’d repeated so often you were beginning to think you should have them tattooed across your forehead. 

There were glimpses here and there that made you think your friends were right, but since Dom had yet to approach you about it, you were going to vehemently deny it. The moments were especially prominent when other men flirted with you or you leaned into a guy that wasn’t Dom. 

It all came to a head, however, after Everton’s latest match. They had lost yet another match, and Dom was in a mood since he still couldn’t play due to his injury.

You were about to try to say something to Dom to console him but you were cut off by someone shouting your name. Your face lit up the moment you saw Antonee Robinson making his way over to you with a big smile on his face. “Jedi, hey!” You said, enveloping him in a hug. “Good game. I hate that we lost, but I’m glad I get to see you.” 

“You, too.” His gaze raked you over. “You look good.”

“You don’t look so bad yourself,” you teased, giggling a little. Antonee had always been a little flirty with you, but with Dom’s eyes practically boring a hole in the back of your head, you were inclined to push the limits a little more. 

“You ready to get going?” Dom appeared out of thin air, putting a possessive arm around your shoulder. 

Antonee took the hint, giving you one last hug as the two of you promised to keep in touch more before he headed back off to celebrate the win with his team.

“He’s had a crush on you for a while,” Dom commented, practically seething as the two of you headed down the tunnel. 

“I’ll believe it when he tells me,” you rolled your eyes, not wanting to hear another word from Dom about all these men in your life that your friends were convinced he was jealous of. “How am I supposed to know if someone is into me if they don’t say anything?”

You felt Dom still beside you, but you were too annoyed to pause, continuing your walk through the tunnel. Dom called out to you but you didn’t respond until he caught up to you and grabbed your wrist, spinning you around to face him. 

“Do you have feelings for me?” The question left your mouth before you could think about the implications. You stared up at him, your eyes wide and your breathing heavy.

“What?”

Your heart was racing and you felt like you had just made a very big mistake, but you knew there was no turning back now. “Do you have feelings for me?” You made a point to emphasize every word, your gaze searching his as you waited for his answer. “Everyone’s been telling me you do but I just need an answer.”

“Yes.” Dom nodded, his serious expression telling you he was telling the truth. “I’ve been trying to figure out the best way to tell you but-”

You cut him off with a kiss, shocking both of you. You’d been harboring your own feelings for Dom for months now, fully aware of your hypocritical stance about him telling you how he feels when you weren’t planning on doing the same. 

He was the first to break the kiss, pulling away with a smile on his face as his forehead rested against yours. “Does this mean you’ll finally go on a date with me now?”

“Absolutely,” you murmured, kissing him again.
