I always see headcanons about Billy practicing magic from like Constantine or Zatanna without his adult form & I wonder do people really read into Shazam bc Billy in both continuities ends up with Wizard’s powers by being bound to the Rock of Eternity naturally one way or another. He’s supposed to be the Wizard’s heir, be it Jebediah or Mamaragan.
Before New 52, the Wizard died and his power passed to Billy & now, Lazarus Planet has caused the power to be bound to Billy in place of the Wizard. That’s not to say it’s been well bc Billy was portrayed as pretty weak & currently, the Wizard is gonna steal his power bc magic rain made him evil & resentful despite the fact HE VERY MUCH PLANNED for Billy to take HIS SPOT SPECIFICALLY so him being big mad he lost his “position of power” makes no sense.
It’s also worth noting Billy’s magic is not like Constantine or Zatanna; their spells are currently written in the language of the Lightning (basically a magic language & writing system) which makes sense bc Mamaragan himself is a lightning/thunder god of Aboriginal origin that speaks in thunder/lightning in RL.
Im just saying; Billy’s magical abilities are not the same as some of the more familiar characters & is tied from an entirely different kind of mythology, fictional and otherwise, and is exclusive to him (there’s a reason why it’s reoccurring people seeking to steal the Magic of Shazam often tricks BILLY & not just absorb magic ability. Only Constantine has done that & it literally almost killed him). It’s way more interesting playing into that than making him Constantine/Zatanna 5.0 in magic

Long before recorded history, mankind’s first and mightiest mages formed a council to govern the world’s untamed magics: The Lords of Order. From their headquarters at The Rock of Eternity--a citadel built at the nexus of this world and the next--they protected mankind from dark forces in secret for thousands of years. But all things must end, and eventually even the Lords of Order began to pass from this life. The last survivor among them, Jebediah of Canaan, knew he had to find a champion to carry on their work.
Enter Billy Batson. An 11-year old foster child, Billy’s rough life had inspired in him a bottomless compassion and a strong sense of justice. Jebediah sensed great potential in him, and would surely have waited until he was grown to see if he was worthy. However, with time running short, he had no choice but to entrust his sacred duty to the child. Summoning Billy to the Rock of Eternity, Jebediah used the last of his magic--and the last of his life--to grant him the power of the heavens themselves. From that day forth, Billy could turn into the world’s mightiest mortal by uttering the oldest, most powerful magic word, the word that cultures all over the world know is synonymous with magic power: SHAZAM!
As the champion Captain Marvel, Billy appears as a grown man, though he maintains his own mind. He possesses the wisdom of Solomon (in the form of a sort of mystical ESP), the strength of Hercules (rivaling even Superman), the stamina of Atlas (to match), the magic of Zeus (divine lightning and a well of other untapped magical energies), the invulnerability of Achilles (including resistance to magic, and without that weak heel), and the speed of Mercury (outpacing everyone short of the Flash on land or air.) And yes, it’s very important for the spell that the sources of his powers abbreviate to “shazam”. Something to do with the magical power of True Names, don’t ask him how that works. With the Lords of Order gone (if occasionally reachable via divination), it’s up to Captain Marvel to protect the Earth from demons and black magic, but if the need arises he’s happy to put regular old supervillains in their place, too.

Slight Shazam reimagining: The Wizard is Solomon.
When you think about it, Solomon is pretty out of place in the acronym line up. Every one else is from Classical mythology, but Solomon is from the wrong area and the wrong mythology. Plus, it's common to refer to all of them collectively as "gods" and while Hercules and Achilles aren't strictly that they're at least descended from them.
But then you look at what Solomon is known for. Being the wisest man alive, a mystic who ended up drawn to deities outside of his own, tempted away by various women. His mysticism was rooted in the alphabet, and then tied to names. He bound demons in place. And it is his name which begins the incantation: SHAZAM
And then look at the Wizard Shazam: a mystic from Canaan, who had children with a demoness, who has bound the incarnations of sin to the rock of eternity, and whose final, greatest act is to take the first letter of six great names, and with them spell his own name, and with it bestow both his own power and the power of the six great others. It just kind of all falls into place for the Wizard to be King Solomon.
Also like. The Wizard's original name has been revealed to be Jebediah, which is literally just a different translation of Jedidiah, the other name of Solomon.

Jebediah of Canaan (the Wizard) misread David Harbour's quote and thought he was warning humans not to be seduced by demons. The Wizard knows that's a bad idea from experience.

History
Lord Satanus resembled a traditional demon, save that he wore a heavy Roman-style helmet, and either had black skin or the helmet buried his face in shadow. He and his sister Blaze fought for possession of the latter's domain, using Superman as a pawn. At the end of it, it was revealed that Satanus was disguised as Colin Thornton, the publisher of Newstime magazine, who had previously hired Clark Kent as editor.
Lord Satanus, meanwhile, had created DMN, a magical drug that transformed people into demons, which he arranged to be sent to areas of the world where people were in desperate straits. After the Fall of Metropolis, the city became one of these areas. Horrified by what had befallen his home, Satanus sent a disguised magical message to Zatanna, who used Perry White and Superman's knowledge of the city to restore it. Satanus would use the DMN addicts again, however, to distract Shazam from detecting his presence when the wizard visited Metropolis.
Following Brainiac-13's recreation of Metropolis, Satanus made an ambitious effort to capture the soul of the entire city. Superman offered his own soul in exchange, but eventually thwarted Satanus with the help of a young psychic and a mysterious shaman named Night Eagle who, it was implied, might be Blaze.
Day of Vengeance
Satanus recently revealed to Superman that he was Colin Thornton when the Spectre arrived in Metropolis as part of his mission to destroy all evil magic during the Day of Vengeance. Whether Lord Satanus was destroyed or not was not revealed. He does appear at the magician's seance to summon the Spectre during the Infinite Crisis.
Reign In Hell
Satanus and his sister Blaze have decided to make an attempt for the throne of Hell by causing a revolt against Neron. They preach to the damned about the hope of getting beyond being a simple realm of suffering eternally and becoming a place to atone for past sins and then to be free of torment for the debts long since paid. Satanus preaches of a hell not bound by laws handed down long ago, stating that the only ones keeping the laws in place are those who continue to toil under them without hope. He pledges to change this.
Lord Satanus led his forces against those of Neron in a battle that raged throughout the Infernal Dominion, throwing Hell into chaos the likes of which it has not known for centuries. While at first his forces were holding their own, as time went by, the overwhelming number of warriors and demons under Neron's command became too much for his forces to handle. While his sister Blaze faced off against the sorcerer Doctor Fate, Satanus set the last of his plans in motion.
Coming to his sister after the end of her duel with Fate, Satanus revealed the truth of his plans to her. Reminding her of the magical drug he had created years ago, DMN, he reminded her of its properties for turning mortals into demons, it could also work in reverse for turning demons into humans. He explained that the entire war had been a ruse, a way for his plague-carrying troops to reach throughout Hell, spreading his plague. He also simultaneously used his power to create a conjuring for Neron to witness their conversation, a direct challenge to his power.
Neron accepted, and broadcasting his intentions to the entirety of the Infernal Dominion, teleported to Satanus to bring him to task for his actions. Satanus fought Neron in a magical duel that spread across the realm of Hell. Satanus was able to barely stand against Neron, and just as his enemy prepared to end their fight, he triggered his trap, speaking aloud "Shazam". All the demons infected with DMN were transformed into humans, and each one drew power from Neron, reverting him back to the pitiful demon he had started out as.
Lord Satanus wasted no time beheading Neron. Proclaiming himself ruler of Hell, he gifted his sister with the head of their enemy, and prepared for his rule to begin.
Transporting to Neron's former citadel, Lord Satanus and his sister Lady Blaze moved in, taking over. Trading in his battle armor for robes, Satanus is waited on by numerous servants. Waiting for the Infernal Dominion to re-align itself to his will as it had for Neron, Satanus cut it off from all other planes while his power was consolidated.
He explained to Blaze that instead of placing demons over the souls of the Damned to watch and torment them, he would instead allow them to torment each other. He explained that needing to pass blame on to others, because of their curse of Pride they would keep each other in check, blaming one another for their failures in life and damning themselves even further. Entering his throne room, where thrones waited for both him and his sister, he picked up the dispatched head of Neron and forced it to say the words that would hand over control to him.
He then used his power to re-constitute one of his former demonic servants, sending him forth to find Doctor Fate so that he could be properly punished for the disfigurement of his sister. Waiting as his power grew, Satanus used a burst of strength to remodel and reshape the citadel. Sitting on his throne he began to plan, ready to bring all past debts in to call.
Black Alice later appeared in an attempt to force him into returning a part of her soul that was dragged to Hell during the war by Lilith. She attempted to absorb Satanus' power but was intercepted by Blaze who absorbed Satanus' power for herself and overthrew him as the ruler of Hell while leaving him chained to her side as a shriveled husk.

Shazam Epic Spell - 3.5E DND
SHAZAM
Transformation
Spellcraft DC: 116 (Billy); 46 (Teth-Adam)
Components: V
Casting Time: 1 free action
Range: 300 ft
Effect: One human commoner 1 (Billy); One human fighter 5 (Teth-Adam)
Saving Throw: Fortitude Negates (Optional – spell is beneficial)
Spell Resistance: Yes (Optional – spell is beneficial)
To Develop: Billy – 1,044,000 GP; 21 days; 20,000 XP. Teth-Adam – 414,000 GP; 9 days; 20,000 XP.
SHAZAM grants either Billy or Teth-Adam the ability to transform into Captain Marvel and Black Adam, respectively, upon saying the word SHAZAM.
I may make a character sheet for CM/BA later, but for now, assume the following:
A lightning bolt dealing 10d6 lightning damage strikes in a 300ft bolt, starting 300ft above CM/BA and ending at them.
Level 20 Human Monk (Only some abilities transfer over)
Perfect Self
Diamond Body
Diamond Soul
Billy has all the abilities that a level 1 monk would have (Flurry of Blows, Unarmed Strike). Teth-Adam has all the abilities that a level 5 monk would have (Evasion, Fast Movement, Ki Strike (magic), Slow Fall 20ft, Purity of Body). If Billy or Teth-Adam were to gain levels as Billy/Teth, this would also lead to an increase in abilities as CM/BA, as well as a reduction in the spellcraft DC (-10 per level gained).
Skills: Do not stack with any skill points Billy/Teth has.
Knowledge (Arcana) – 23 skill points.
Knowledge (Religion) – 23 skill points.
Sense Motive – 20 skill points.
Knowledge (Dungeoneering) – 5 skill points.
Knowledge (History) – 4 skill points
Knowledge (The Planes) – 4 skill points
Feats:
Run
Endurance
Diehard
Dodge
Weapon Focus (Unarmed Strike)
Combat Reflexes
Improved Sunder
Skill Focus – Knowledge (Arcana)
Skill Focus – Knowledge (Religion)
Skill Focus – Sense Motive
STR: 17
CON: 16
DEX: 17
HP: 20d8 + 60 (150 hp)
+5 Wisdom Bonus (Otherwise, INT/WIS/CHA are the same as what Billy/Teth usually have)
+10 save against fear
Flight
The transformation is permanent. The benefits can be called and released by Billy/Teth saying SHAZAM.
If the gods recall their powers, the spell is dismissed.
Note: The caster does not have the ability to do so in Teth’s spell, but it may be more in keeping with the comic to add this in for Billy. It would give a total +10 to the spellcraft DC if you do so (+2 x 5).
See below for all factors leading into this build, adjust as needed.
SHAZAM Spell Creation
DND 3E Epic Spell
Seed: Transform (DC 21); Fortify – Wisdom (DC 25); Fortify – Save against Fear (35); Energy – Lightning (DC 19)
Total from Seed: 100
Epic Spell Factors
Spell within specialist school (-5)
Let’s just say that Shazam’s specialty is Transmutation.
No somatic component (+2)
Quickened (+28)
Permanent Duration (x5)
6 additional participants [Solomon, Hercules, Achilles, Zeus, Atlas, Mercury] contribute an epic-level spell slot (-114)
Since these are actual gods, we might Ad Hoc an additional (-100) per god. However, since the gods can rescind the powers at will, this would also incur an additional (+2) per god who is capable of ‘dismissing’ the spell at will.
It would also be interesting to see how this spell would work for Freddy, during his journey to get the powers of the gods, since each of the gods essentially cast a different spell.
Burn 20,000 XP, the max amount that can be burnt. (-200)
Total from Epic Spell Factors: +48; x5 – applied after all increases; -919
Transform Seed Factors
Much of this relies upon the transformation changing Billy/Teth into the ‘champion of Shazam.’ If we do so, then this is a specific person. However, since Billy has no levels, maybe one level of commoner, we will need to pay additional DC penalties to add abilities. I make the champion of Shazam a level 20 monk, for reasons later on. This also allows us to say that the champion has skills for Knowledge (Magic), and since these are memory/mental-based, Billy/Teth would also have these. (+25)
Size Change [Billy Only] (+6)
Teenage Billy can ignore this- which would reduce the final spellcraft DC to 86.
Note that Strength of Hercules, Stamina (Constitution) of Atlas, and Speed (Dexterity) of Mercury do not incur any additional DC requirements.
If we consider that Captain Marvel’s immortality comes from a Timeless Body extraordinary ability of the champion of Shazam, the DC bump is (+10).
It would also make sense for the champion to have Diamond Body (+10) and Diamond Soul (+10).
This would mean that Captain Marvel/Black Adam is based on some sort of monk- which would make sense, because when Jebediah of Canaan lived 9000 years ago, there weren’t weapons like there were today, or even in the middle ages.
We may as well through in the AC Bonus, which would add the Wisdom bonus to AC, as well as an additional +1 every 5 levels. If we say this a level 20 monk, so this additional bonus would be +3. (+10)
I’d like to add Perfect Self as well, but this isn’t a Supernatural or Extraordinary ability. We can use an Ad Hoc penalty for this.
Flight (+10)
Finally, since this supposed monk has 19 HD on Billy, it’s (+38). If we say that Teth-Adam is a level 5 fighter, for him it’s only (+30).
Total from Transform: Billy +119, Teth +115
Fortify Spell Factors
Wisdom of Solomon can be a simple Wisdom bump, of +5. Since the spell is permanent, I cannot go higher than that.
Courage of Achilles is a bonus for saving against fear. I couldn’t find anything to allow an immunity to fear, which might be better. The only other way we could do it is if we were to have the ‘champion of Shazam’ be a Monk 20/Paladin 1, but that might be pushing it. So instead, I say he has a +10 to saves against fear, as courage is not the same as fearlessness.
These factors are already built in to the base DC’s, above.
Energy Spell Factors
This is for the fun lightning effect. We use ‘a bolt 5 ft wide to 300 ft long’, and since it comes from the sky, we just say the point of origin is 300 ft high and goes straight down.
I don’t see any reason to bump up the damage from 10d6. The lightning is destructive, but not ridiculously so.
Ad-hoc
Spell effects can be dismissed and regained by the target of the spell at will, contingent upon the target repeating the word used for the verbal component (+10)
Creation of the spell permanently consumes an epic level spell-slot of the spell’s creator, until the death of the ‘caster’ (-450)
I place this as roughly equivalent to burning 10 levels of XP (45,000).
Perfect Self (+20)
Total from Ad-Hoc: +30, -400
Billy
Final Increase: +297
Final Multiplier: x5
Final Decrease: -1369
Final Spellcraft DC: 116
Teth
Final Increase: +283
Final Multiplier: x5
Final Decrease: -1369
Final Spellcraft DC: 46
At level 20, the wizard Shazam would have 23 skill points in spellcraft. As a human, his max intelligence would be 22, granting him a +6 bonus to spellcraft. Let’s give him the feat Skill Focus (Spellcraft), granting another +3 bonus. Magical Aptitude gives another +2 bonus. If we say that Shazam has at least 5 ranks in Knowledge (Arcana), then there’s an additional +2 bonus, through skill synergies. So without any items, just going out of the PHB, Shazam at level 30 could have a +36 bonus to Spellcraft checks.
As a result, even if he were to take 20, without any other bonuses the maximum spellcraft DC he could achieve would be 56.
However! Shazam is almost certainly an epic level character. Otherwise, he wouldn’t even have the capability to cast epic-level spells.
Epic Skill Focus (Spellcraft) gives an additional +10 to Spellcraft checks. For every two times he takes Great Intelligence, he gains an additional +1 ability bonus. He would also need to take Epic Spellcasting at some point, so this must also figure into our equation.
Presumably, Shazam is also putting a point into Spellcraft every time he levels up.
So at level 30, Shazam will have taken Epic Skill Focus, Great Intelligence (Four times, using bonus feats), and Epic Spellcasting. He will have a total of 33 points in Spellcraft, and if all of his ability bonuses have gone into Intelligence, then including Great Intelligence he will have 29 INT, or a +9 ability bonus. His total Spellcraft bonus will be +59 (33 + 9 + 10 + 3 + 2 + 2). This still isn’t enough.
Level 40: +74 (43 spellcraft + 2 arcana + 15 feats + 14 ability); 38 INT
Level 50: +89 (53 spellcraft + 2 arcana + 15 feats + 19 ability); 48 INT
Level 60: +103 (63 spellcraft + 2 arcana + 15 feats + 23 ability); 56 INT
Level 70: +118 (73 spellcraft + 2 arcana + 15 feats + 28 ability); 66 INT
Around level 70, he can cast Billy’s spell with ease, and between level 50 and level 60, he can do it if he takes 20. He would be able to cast Teth’s spell as soon as he gained the ‘Epic Spellcasting’ feat.
However, in Deities and Demigods, the gods themselves have CR’s between 30 and 50. So level 70 is pushing it, but not ridiculously so, especially for someone who’s had 9000 years to fight the forces of evil.
