Anyone else think the Jean Laurent shot/planned/played a part in Joseph's death theory is a red herring? I mean, I want to say it is. It kind of feels like off the little evidence we have, Jean just looks really unhappy on the show (I mean bro why are you frowned up in a promotional photo?)

There's definitely a correlation between Jean and Ian, I'd say. They look too similar to not be. It's definitely something to keep in mind regardless.

Honestly I was super stuck on the hair. I know Rory has the longer hair, but I wondered if it could be a wig? Then I saw an old Jambee image with short hair so I stuck with that and kina combined both?

Also...This was my first time doing lighting like this...I don't know if I love it...I imagine Jean would bully me over it. Perchance.

Okay but you know that kind of dynamic? The one where person A hates person B with a passion and yet person B is blissfully unaware of it? And person A isn't aware that person B isn't aware so they think it's mutual?

That's Joseph and Jean's dynamic in my AU in a nutshell. Jean hates Joseph with every fiber of his being and thus reads too much into anything he does.

And Joseph just... doesn't know.

In an alternate AU where Sanne does stay with Jean longer than she should have is because of the significant age gap and the fact she had just turned 18 when they met.

But compared to the other girls he got involved with, Sanne left before he could ruin her life because she noticed the red flags and decided to prioritize her wellbeing over his wants.

It still hurt her, though. She spent much of her life up to that point living with a family that didn't appreciate her and only kept her around for what she could do for them.

So when this older man, a celebrity no less, tells her all these honeyed words about how hard she works and how much he seems to appreciate her, it made Sanne swoon. Top that with all the promises of being good to her. She felt he was just the kind of man she was looking for.

Only for her to end up miserable throughout the duration of their relationship. She didn't realize at first that she was putting in all the effort, making all the sacrifices to keep everything afloat. Jean, on the other hand? He doesn't have to change a thing because he has this girl willing to put in all the work while he still carries on like a bachelor.

Thankfully, Sanne was sensible enough not to let him dictate her life too much. She still maintained her job working at a luxury fashion house, and she kept her friends close, which helped her a lot when she finally bailed.

She finally realized the trap she got herself into one night when she woke up at just the right time. Jean had actually gotten bold enough to cheat while she was still in the apartment.

Jean tried to sedate her so she couldn't wake up while he was screwing another woman. But she woke up. And, aside from overhearing the supposedly love of her life sleeping with someone else, she ended up getting a bombshell dropped on her.

Jean knew that Sanne wanted to marry him. And while he never outright said he would, he made it seem like it was a possibility.

But that night, she found out that he had no intention of marrying her at all. He was going to dangle the idea in front of her to keep her in line. And if he finally got tired of her? He would use the excuse that white folk and people of color wouldn't be able to get married despite interracial marriage being legalized in Texas for a while now. But he wanted to keep her as long as possible because she took such good care of him.

That was the moment Sanne realized that Jean was no different from her family. He also just wanted her only for what she could provide for him and nothing else.

And as distraught as she was, Sanne started planning her escape right away. She didn't confront him at all even though she wanted to. But that was because she wanted to disappear from his life. And if he's aware, he might be on the lookout for signs of her leaving.

Sanne reaches out to her friends in private, arranging for her to move in with one of them until she can invest in her own apartment. And thanks to Jean spending a lot of time away from her and them having separate rooms, she was able to pack all her stuff and find the perfect day to leave without him knowing.

She wouldn't leave anything for him. She just left.

During that time of healing, Sanne realized how she was pretty much scammed into a relationship and thus she began being picky about men and keeping herself unreachable until she was sure he was someone she could trust at her most vulnerable.

But at that point, she decided to prioritize her career, her friends, and her wellbeing as well, so dating wasn't a focus for quite some time.

And while she gains the reputation of being cold and the media takes every opportunity to try and drag her, Sanne would rather have than degrade herself for male validation.
