Down By The Water by PJ Harvey

Directed by Maria Mochnacz. Due to a promotional push from the label record, this music video received a much larger budget than those of previous songs; it was filmed in London (on 35mm film!) over the course of two days. Much of the footage was shot in a swimming pool and a body double was used for some scenes. Harvey later described her outfit in the video as "Joan Crawford on acid" (Spin, January 1996), adding in another interview (with JBTV) that the heavy wig and high heels made the pool scenes difficult to film.

It was nominated for Best Female Video at the 1995 MTV VMAs and featured in Beavis and Butthead, Ash vs Evil Dead, Peaky Blinders, Gotham, and Yellowjackets.

Alex: We like to drink tequila with grapefruit and tonic, or sometimes just tonic, it’s called a Corvette Summer apparently.

Interviewer: Is that an English drink? Cause I’ve never heard of that.

Alex: Not called a Corvette Summer. We learned that in the desert actually, from those folks. Honestly that’s what we gravitate towards.

Interviewer: So that’s your favourite drink? Tequila, grapefruit, and tonic?
