K-Pop Scandals 2023

This year had a lot of scandals, from serious abuse allegations and harmless dating scandals, to quite a few contract disputes between idols and companies. Ninjago headcanons again but my high school with no powers AU (post 1/5)

This will be a serie of 5 posts with 3 characters each time. Any ideas, suggestions, headcanons or anything to complete mine is appreciated !

Kai Smith

• is 17 y/o

• is in 11th grade

• uses he/they pronouns but prefers being seen as a guy

• androgyne and pansexual

• are Mexican by their mother and Japanese by their father

• fluent speakers in Spanish and Japanese

• he’s between 5’7 and 5’8 tall (somewhere between 1m70 and 1m72)

• they’re the 3rd older after Zane and Cole

• they’re born on 18 august

• has I.E.D (intermittent explosive disorder)

• has insomnia since the burglary happened (in my AU, Kai and Nya’s parents died stopping burglars who entered in the house, Kai were 10 and Nya 9)

• everyone knows him and his relation with his siblings and how you shouldn’t hurt or annoy them if you don’t want to go to the hospital (that’s what happened to Lloyd’s bullies in middle school)

• due to what they did to Lloyd’s bullies, they had to pay for the damage and the treatment. It took them almost a year and half to find the money

• has a LOT of followers on his socials, especially instagram

• is good at English, P.E., politics and social classes and surprisingly good at art (only at whatever touching fashion like anatomy, outfit sketches and drawing different textures/fabrics)

• wants to be a model or work in fashion industry

• has dated a lot of people in their life but it never lasted more then two months because of his I.E.D that their partner didn’t understand or search to understand, his habit to never seek help or say anything about his feelings

• is currently dating Skylor since the beginning of summer but they realise that they have maybe catch feelings for Cole

• is the only one with Jay to have a driver license

• always getting in trouble with school or students because they fight a lot (is easily provoked)

• work hard after school everyday (he’s overexploited by his boss and knows it but can’t quit his job because he couldn’t afford the apartment or pay any food)

• hate seeking help, see it as weakness

• his insomnia get worse due to his night job and homeworks

• hide his dark rings with a bit of makeup

• was extremely afraid to wear dresses and skirts, anything for « girls » at school but since 10th grade they found the confidence to wear whatever they want and enjoys it

• loves help Lloyd with his art project when they need a model

• goes to art galleries with Lloyd and anything linked to fashion with Skylor and Cole

• have his right eye that moves more slowly than the other and his right pupil bigger and the left one because of one of the burglar : one of them was about to hit Nya by throwing some glass at her and he got between them to protect his sister and his upper eyes take some glass and that stupid little idiot tried to remove it but only make it worse and now, plus making his vision worse they also have a scar now

• loves going out at night with Cole when they end up high and talk about life and philosophical things in the moonlight

• organise hangouts with the entire friend group to the mall when he has enough money and they always ending up to do a sleepover at someone’s house (usually Jay’s because his parents are the kindest people ever)

• ALWAYS wear one black converse and the other red that he wrote on some lyrics of Lana del Ray « Say yes to me… » and « If you dance,… » that he match with Cole’s converse

• always on energy drinks to stay awake

• have an amazing sense of style and can make a beautiful outfit with the bare minimum, and can spend HOURS in a thrift store

• is a party animal since he can rarely go to parties with his job but those parties usually finished with him fighting or being so high or drunk he can’t even go home (he already spend a night outside bcz of that)

• they hate themselves for being a such problem and « bad brother », for being not mentally stable or economically stable as well

• they stop taking their medicine for their I.E.D because he couldn’t pay for both of his treatments and Lloyd’s ADHD medication

• used to skip meals to feed Nya and Lloyd, sometimes does it when it’s the end of the month and he can barely buy enough food for two persons

• has a HUGE crush on Cole since the beginning of the year

• was afraid for Nya when she gets in her first relationship but relax and learn to trust her and saw there were nothing to be worry about

• their fav artists are Hozier and Lady Gaga

• always ask to their therapist what Lloyd said to her but she always give answers like : "Kai, would you, please, considerate to turn off your big brother mode for an hour ? "

• doesn’t know to swim since they’re hella scared of water

• can plays drums

• definitely a mama’s boy

• has a naturally hotter body temperature

Cole Hence Brookstone

• is 18 y/o

• is in 11th grade because he repeat his 9th grade

• uses he/him and sees himself as a cis man

• gay

• is Algerian on his mother side and Indian on his father side

• fluent speaker in Arabic, Hindi and French and is learning Korean and Spanish

• he’s the second tallest after Zane : he’s between 6’2 and 6’3 (between 1m90 and 1m93)

• always sleeping in classes he found boring because his sleep schedule is a totally mess (goes with Kai in the back of the class and do their nap together)

• he’s the oldest of the group, being born one month before Zane

• doesn’t know what to do after school and he feels anxious about it because all his friends have already some ideas

• writes songs/poems in class in a notebook where he writes about his life/traumas, his thoughts and draws some doodles, he considers it like his diary and never shows it to anyone

• he has been diagnosed with an E.D (boulimia) at 6 and even tho he tried to handle it, he always has like severe periods in a year where he loses a lot of weight and feels extremely tired and bad, at the point he did a depression in 9th grade. It was already hard to get ready for school and go to classes so doing homework and listening to the teachers was almost impossible that’s why he repeated the year

• he get, followed after by Nya and Lloyd when they get 16, a motorcycle licence one week after he got 16. He needed it to drive himself to school since his dad isn’t always at home because of his work and since he’s often drunk he prefers to go by himself

• he smokes and very rarely dr8gs with Kai. Lloyd often ask if he could pay them some cigarettes but Cole never does because 1 : "you’re literally a walking angel alive, you’re too pure for that shit" and 2 : " You want me dead and your siblings in jail ??"

• genuinely DESPISE P.E. class because of the changing room mostly. When he was in 8th grade he has been bullied for being gay and “watching boys changing in P.E.” and has been beaten up by his classmates for that. The year after the boulimia didn’t help and he would constantly comparing himself to other and thought he eat too much and doesn’t do enough sport, adding to that the comments of the P.E. teacher

• never goes outside without his headphones and a pair of earbuds too in case his headphones die

• people usually think he’s tough but actually he’s the kindest and sweetest guy ever and gives the best hugs when you need it

• does sleepovers with Skylor and Vania or just Vania but Nya, Pix and Skylor often invite themselves to the party

• speaks to Skylor in Arabic just to watch others’s faces

• learns Korean to understand Jay and Spanish to understand Kai, Nya and Skylor

• plays guitar and has a band with Morro, Akita and Vania

• he does not sing because he just can’t but he can perfectly do rap and beatbox

• he has daddy issues not due to his family legacy but mostly due to his father who can’t make his grieve of his wife and drink

• can do breakdance but will never do it in high school

• protects Lloyd every times he sees they’re being annoyed

• has a ton of pairs of converse but one black with the lyrics « say yes to heaven » and « I’ll dance » that Kai and him matched

• BIG HUGE fan of Cigarettes after sex (his fav songs of them are Sunsetz and Cry)

• his fav artists are Cigarettes after sex, TV girl, Arctic Monkeys, Conan Gray and Pyo (he’s a little singer go listen to his songs they’re worth it *^*)

• his coming out to his father was an absolute disaster and is one of his biggest traumas : his dad saw him and Kai kissing each other one day, so when he explained that Kai was more than a friend and that he was attracted to men, they had a huge fight while Kai was trying to defend his boyfriend but he had to go outside to calm himself down while he heard the screams and shoutings of the two men. After like a half of an hour, his father decided to kick him out of the house. He had to sleep at the Smith’s. The next day he tried to talk to his dad but he was drunk and told him he had no son, that he was dead and that’s why he threw all his stuff out of the window. Cole just took the stuff that was still intact -which means not a lot- by holding tears and leave the house

• spend two months in a hospital because of his ED which became so severe he lost 15 or 20kg (~33 and 44 ibs), he had a constant headache, was very tired close to the dehydration

• loves skateboarding with Morro and Lloyd

• after getting out of the hospital and tried his best to recover of both his traumas and his ED he get a tattoo for this : a dragon with lilies’s petals and flames

• has a big crush on Kai since middle school and Jay was the first to noticed it

• him and Jay have the most philosophical and deepest conversations ever about love and relationships, at 3am, calling each other on discord and playing horror video games

• studies with Zane (at least tries to) and our poor Zane had to survive to a freaking out lost Cole in math : " WHAT’S x ? WHAT’S y ? WHERE ARE NUMBERS WHEN YOU NEED IT ??!! "

• goes to gym with Zane, Kai and Nya

• mama’s boy club with Kai

Lloyd Montgomery Garmadon

• just turned 16 a few weeks ago

• are in 11th grade too (skipped 1st grade)

• use they/them pronouns and identify as a trans man

• thought they were biromantic and asexual but after a sexuality identity crisis that everyone has been, they discovered they were aroace

• they have autism and ADHD

• is Japanese on his mother side and Chinese on his father side

• can speak Japanese and Spanish thanks to the Smith siblings

• they’re 5’2 (1m57) will have growth spurt and be taller than Kai, being like 5’9-5’10 (1m77)

• they’re the youngest in the group

• has been abandoned by their parents in an orphanage at a very young age because their parents are criminals (i will develop this point later because i have literally no idea for now ;-;) but they ran away because of the way kids were treated. They found Kai after a month to live in the streets and quickly bonded after a talk. Kai decided to help Lloyd after heard their story and brought them home

• when they entered in the first time in a school they’re like 5 and it was in a kindergarten and they feel really different of the others kids, feel lost and overwhelmed by all the social interactions like at the orphanage but worse and cried almost all the morning before a teacher came and help them to calm down. And it was like that for a whole week, Lloyd didn’t wanted to disappoint Kai or Nya or took the risk of being rejected again so the teacher helped them to talk to Kai when he picked them up. Kai contacted a doctor who told them to see a psychiatrist for that case. So Kai contacted his therapist who diagnosed his I.E.Dto make an appointment. She was very kind with Lloyd and after a few months she diagnosed them both autism and ADHD

• are very intelligent but started getting bag grades after 6th grade because of the school system that is absolutely terrible for them with their ADHD and autism

• they’ve been bullied since 5th grade and started developing a school phobia and since they say everything to their siblings, Kai and Nya let them stay at home when they don’t feel like to go to school

• Jay helps them handle their ADHD since he has it too and also gives them tips about their transition since Jay’s also trans. Zane give them advices on their autism since they are autistic

• are extremely good at art and their whole bedroom is literally an art studio with graffiti on their walls, a lot of finished or unfinished paintings and a LOT of sheets filled with sketches and drawings on the floor or on his desk

• own like 6-7 sketchbooks, have started them all but never finished them (yet they still hope to finish them)

• have a few hyperfixations and the biggest ones are definitely sharks and video games (Jay bought them some books about sharks and gives them some of his own video games and Cole some plushies of sharks)

• have two hoodies (one green that looks like a frog and an another black that looks like a cat) that they put on when they feel overwhelmed by the noise around them

• have tried to learn how to play guitar but failed miserably so instead they just play violin and they’re amazingly amazing at it ✨

• have wayyyyyy too much plushies that they found on thrift store, theirs siblings/friends gave them or just found them in public places being lost for days. Lloyd gaves names and pronouns to each of them

• used to wear glasses but always ended up broken either by their bullies or by themselves so Pixal and Zane designed, with the help of their parents contact lenses for their 13th birthday

• vans shoes lover

• have for best friend Akita, a girl in their class and with who they have their best laughs in class. She’s their confidante after Kai and Nya

• often skating with Cole and Morro

• teach Akita how to do skateboarding

• their fav artists are Cavetown, The Neighbourhood, Feldup (mostly known in France even tho his songs are in English) and Hozier (thanks to Kai)

• always draw in class except History and English classes, their fav (they’re kind of history nerd)

• have depression episodes more or less serious but they are cutting themselves during those and try to attempt to k!ll themselves (mostly due to bullying and their poor self esteem)

• when they have nightmares they go to sleep with their favourite plushies in Kai’s bed, with Nya when she does nightmares and they both hug Kai for comfort and warmth because Kai has a naturally hotter body temperature

• often think about how they got adopted by Kai, where and who were their parents and ask themselves why they decided to abandon them, and always end up crying, feeling useless, unworthy and unwanted

An example of a music video that influenced pop culture: Jamiroquai- Virtual Insanity

Hey everyone, I had this clip in mind for a few weeks and also had it a few years ago in my instagram feed spoofed in different pop culture references especially in internet memes by recreating the caracteristic move of Jay Kay when he is just sliding towards the camera and keep doing the same in various directions during the whole video. Jamiroquai is a Soul Funk, R&B, House band created in 1992 and was composed initially of Jay Kay as the singer, Toby Smith as the keyboardist, Rob Harris as the guitarist, Derrick McKenzie as the drumer and Wallis Buchanan as the didgeridoo player (similar to a long flute but comes from Australian Aborigenes). The video remains iconic: you have Jay Kay sliding around in a strange room covered in white boxes as I said previously, you have people (these are the other band members btw) and sofas sliding too, you have cockroaches and blood (maybe coming out of the sofas) and that's all to summarise the video. Now for the lyrics, you have this really striking element sang by Jay Kay: This dystopian future ruled by technologies and people living in an insane virtual reality (cf. the title). "Futures made of virtual insanity Now always seem to be governed by this love we have For useless twisting of our new technology Oh, now there is no sound For we all live underground" … I must admit that I did not really care for the lyrics the few times I had this song in my ears especially when you have this groovy theme that could cover your understanding and make you focus on the rhythm rather than the speaking but when you watch the video it makes sense really. As an influence in pop culture, you have the king of the cover versions named Pitbull appearing with Austin Mahone - Mmm Yeah (not the best cover you could find, not going to lie) You also have a TV Promo made by Chris Rock parodying the same move for MTV Awards. I could not list the tons of millions internet memes covering social media so I let you choose the one that suits you ! In a nutshell, Jamiroquai did find a way to get remembered as an iconic song and move not only from his lyrics but also for the several ways he has been spoofed up to now !

“It’s not great, to put it lightly.” She sighed.  

For the past few weeks, Jay had kidnapped the Triple B, and tonight it was on the line against Maxwell. For the most part, it seemed that Jay would be okay with losing, but watching him after the match proved otherwise. Maybe it wasn’t the losing that bothered him as much as it was that he wanted the belt. He proved himself of all the things he wanted in Japan, and now in his first title match he fell short, no matter how hard he tried to beat his opponent. It wasn’t the first time he’d felt disappointed in a loss, but this one was different to him. This time, it wasn’t just about putting on a good show for the fans or proving that he could do something. No, this time it was about her. Her with the smile that lit up any room she entered, the gorgeous eyes that he always seemed to get lost in, the outgoing personality that made him fall for her in the first place. He realized his feelings for her when the first person he wanted to celebrate his Wembley win was with her, but he hadn’t told her that. 

“Want me to talk with him?” She shook her head at Adam’s question. 

Sure, they were good friends, both admitted to that, but right now she wanted to be the one to comfort him. It wasn’t often she saw him like this, bummed about anything, so she wanted to help him, even if he’d be cocky about it. After hearing they were ready for him on the Media Scrum, Adam left, giving her a reassuring smile. Once she knew he was safely out of the room, she began walking towards the table that he’d been sitting at for the past ten minutes.  

“Jay?” Her voice laced with worry, catching his attention quickly. 

“Hey, what’s up?” The emotion of discouraged still lingered on his face, and she felt awful about it. 

“I was wondering if you wanted to talk about your match.” He shook his head.  

There was no eye contact, just the empty awkward silence filling the air. Jay knew he needed to say something, anything, to her. Yet, he couldn’t get a single word out. Unsure if it was fear or if it was simply his nerves, Jay stood, wanting to leave so he could think. Normally, he didn’t mind doing it when she was around, but this time, when it was about her, he wanted to be alone. 

“I’ve got to go.” He left without another word, leaving her confused. 

Not thinking too much of it, she turned and left for the media area. After his questionnaire ended, Max would be leaving from the right side. Since Jay left, she decided to meet the champ when he was done. Scrolling through her Instagram account, she almost missed the sound of his laugh filling the room when he entered.  

“Hey! What are you doing here?” It was clear he was in pain, the sound throughout his tone. 

“I was waiting for you. How’s the leg?” He groaned at her question, giving her the answer, she needed. “Alright, so that’s a not great.” 

He laughed at her joke, causing her to smile. They’d been friends for a few years now, most of the time keeping it off social media. Max was this entitled heel on screen, but the man she knew, he was different. He’d been kind to her when she needed a friend, and that’s how it started for them.  

“So first you’re going to keep that title from me, and now her too huh?” Jay yelled it, and even though it was a question, to her it sounded less like that. In her mind, Jay was angry, but she didn’t understand why. 

“What are you talking about man?” Max called back; his fists clenched. 

“You know what I’m talking about Friedman. Since you’re out here stealing my girl from me too!” His exclamation led to all eyes on her, and she felt tears in her eyes. Without saying anything, she took off for her car, not bothering to grab any of her stuff before leaving. 

For a while, she drove in silence, not really having a destination in mind. What had Jay been talking about when he called her his girl? Even an hour later she still didn’t have the answer to her question, and she knew there was only one place to get it. Once she pulled her car into a gas station, her phone dinged letting her know someone texted her. Grabbing it to see who, she noticed it was from the one man she needed to talk to. He wanted to talk, if she was willing, and he also had let her know that he brought her stuff back to the hotel room for her. In her zone of driving, she’d forgotten all about her things, including her camera with all the photos she’d taken during the show. In the morning she would message Tony about bringing them for him to see, since she left before he’d finished with the scrum. Thinking of a plan, and falling short, she’d decided to return to the hotel. 

“Jay, are you still awake?” He flipped the switch on his beside lamp, signaling to her that he was.

“I waited for an hour at the arena for you.” His words were gentle. They’d always been with her, tonight being the exception. “Then I waited two more hours here for you to come back. When it hit the two-hour mark, I thought you decided to crash with Max.”

“I’m right here.” She whispered softly, and he nodded his head. A sniffle could be heard from where she sat on her bed. “We need to talk about what happened.”

Jay rolled so he could face her, his bare chest exposed from the lack of blanket. It wasn’t that she hadn’t seen him shirtless any other time they shared a room, but after what he said tonight, it felt different. 

“I’m sorry, especially about the yelling--” His words trailed off as he focused on pulling himself into a sitting position. “I know that you’re probably confused.” 

She nodded, not saying anything else in case he wanted to keep explaining. 

“I’ve lost belts, and I’ve lost title matches, but tonight was different than those times. Before, I was trying to prove to the audience that I was the best in the world. Tonight, it wasn’t about proving myself to them, at least not in my eyes.” Another sniffle came, and Jay turned his head to look at her again. She noticed the red puffy eyes, informing her that he’d been crying recently.  

“When you step into a ring, people know who you are, there isn’t anything that needs proven.” A small smile appeared on her face, an effort to comfort him. 

At this, he chuckled, knowing that while it may seem that way, it wasn’t how he saw it. “There was, and I failed to do it. It got to me, and I let it trample over my emotions.” 

“If it wasn’t the crowd, then who did you want to prove it to?” He smiled at her, and he went to speak before her phone rang out. Checking it, she frowned, knowing it wouldn’t help the situation any. “It’s Max, but I don’t have to answer it.” He shook his head and leaned to turn off his lamp. 

When her phone fell silent, his motions stopped. They sat in silence for a moment, neither sure what to say to the other. It was he who’d been the first to break it. 

“I wanted to prove it to you.” Jay released a breath after his admission, giving her time to process what he’d said. 

“Why me?” Now was the hard part of the conversation, at least how she saw it. He’d say something about needing everyone to say he was the best, as an ego boost, but it wouldn’t be what she’d want. 

“The way I feel about you.” He sucked in a breath before continuing. “When I won at Wembley, you were the first person I ran to backstage. I wanted you to celebrate and be happy with me. At All Out when BCG won, you were there waiting for me. I’d been so frustrated with how my hair was sticking to me, and you took the time to brush it out of my face. Each time something happens, I want to share it with you.” 

“Jay, I didn’t know you felt this way.” She whispered. 

“I didn’t expect you to, if I’m being honest. Seeing you with him tonight, it caused me to get jealous, and I just snapped.” Her laugh at his words caught him by surprise, but he smiled. 

“Well, I’m impressed with you in the ring.” He laughed at that. “I’m also impressed with who you are outside the ring. The kind of guy who’ll wait a total of three hours for you, the guy who’ll share his emotions with you, even if he doesn’t like them. That’s the version of you that I want to celebrate wins with, brush hair from your face, and share memories with.” 

“As friends?” His question was expected, since she hadn’t flat out admitted things the way he had. 

“I was thinking as your girl, since Max can’t take me away from the guy I like.” Without even finishing her sentence, Jay had the blanket off and was standing in front of her. When she did finish, he leaned down and kissed her, both hands coming to cup her face.  

The kiss was filled with passion, one that she’d feel on her lip's hours later. When he pulled away, his hands stayed, holding her like she was the most perfect thing to him. 

“I hope that was okay.” He whispered, lips barely above hers. 

“It was perfect.” She smiled at him, and he kissed her again. “Come on, let’s lay in bed.” 

“You don’t want to shower first?” He asked, but she shook her head. 

“Well, I’d like to lay in bed with my man, but I seem to be missing that title for someone.” A giggle left her lips as Jay kissed her for a third time. 

“You got me there. How about I ask you with more of these kisses I’ve been giving for free.” He teased. 

She nodded; a playful grin lay on her face as they crawled into bed. Jay rolled slightly, turning off the lamp, and kept his end of the bargain, filling her night with kisses as his girl.

Set to release his fourth solo album in 15 years, hip-hop luminary Rakim Allah is making a return to the hip-hop cipher.

Although 15 years have elapsed since the God MC’s last solo project, his stance remains interwoven in the fabric of hip-hop culture, ensuring he has never truly left the scene.

Two weeks ago (May 16), Masta Killa of Wu-Tang Clan took to Instagram and posted an image with Kurupt and Rakim, announcing the upcoming release of a single featuring the three renowned lyricists. Though Masta Killa did not reveal the single's name, he shared it would come from the “#GODSNETWORK” and instructed followers to remain attentive.

On Friday (May 24), Matthew Markoff, a markerting A&R for the project, announced on Instagram the solidification of a contract with Rakim for the release of his fourth studio album, G.O.Ds Network (REB7RTH).

Set for a worldwide release on July 26, there will also be a special edition released as a six-inch A and B side vinyl, with “REB7RTH” on one side and “Love is the Message” on the other. This special edition, limited to 500 pieces, will feature an array of hip-hop heavyweights such as Masta Killa, Kurupt, Nipsey Hussle, Snoop Dogg, Planet Asia, as well as seasoned creatives including Sally Green, Louis King, Kobe Honeycutt, Summer Yuki, and more.

The debut single from the album, “Rebirth (N.M.A.),” also produced by the “I Ain’t No Joke” lyricist, featuring Masta Killa and Kurupt, is set to drop next month on June 21, coinciding with the web and pre-order launch. Kurupt shared the single’s official cover on Instagram Friday (May 24), confirming the coming of Rakim’s new album. “July 26th - ‘Rebirth’ Rakim new album…Produced by Tha God Mc himself,” the caption noted.

The album is thoroughly produced by Rakim Allah, with Markoff also serving as an executive producer.

G.O.Ds Network (REB7RTH) marks Rakim’s first solo effort since 2009. He transformed the landscape of rap in 1987 with Eric B. on Paid In Full, and the duo went on to shape the Golden Era of rap with three additional albums: Follow The Leader (1988), Let the Rhythm Hit 'Em (1990), and Don’t Sweat The Technique (1992), all deemed classics of the Golden Era.

Rakim’s solo debut came in 1997 with The 18th Letter, featuring production from Pete Rock, DJ Premier, DJ Clark Kent, Father Shaheed of Poor Righteous Teachers, and more. It debuted at number four on the Billboard 200 and went certified Gold. In 1999, he quickly followed up with his second solo album, The Master, which includes the DJ Premier-produced standout single, “When I B on tha Mic." Afterward, Rakim took a 10-year hiatus before releasing The Seventh Seal in 2009, the first project on his record label Ra Records.

Throughout the years, Rakim has made guest appearances on unapologetic rap songs including G-Dep’s 2001 track “I Am” with Kool G Rap, the 2003 Dr. Dre-produced Jay-Z track “The Watcher 2,” Lloyd Banks’ 2006 song “You Know the Deal,” and he even added a surprise verse on Linkin Park’s 2014 track “Guilty All the Same.”

With his latest performance alongside Slum Village and Talib Kweli at Panic in L.A., the hip-hop luminary has been making his presence felt in the culture. He narrated a Bronx history video for the New York Yankees' opening season, and last month, he joined DJ Jazzy Jeff and Ravi Coltrane for a showcase at the Kennedy Center. As hip-hop enters its 51st year and Rakim makes a comeback, it's safe to conclude that hip-hop was never a fad and is bound to continue dominating and persisting as not only a music genre but a culture.

Hip-hop / R&B girl group XG taps in Jay Park, OZworld, AKLO, Paloalto, VERBAL, Awich, Tak, and Dok2 for the remix of their song, “WOKE UP.”

"WOKE UP REMIXX"  features the most notable rappers in East Asia with the original “WOKE UP” backtrack which is a mix of an 808 bass and distinctive East Asian sounds. Each rapper adds their own unique style to the track with lyrics referencing their own music, East Asian culture and even an ode to hip-hop. The flawless blend between all the rappers resulted into a 6 minute track that showcases the hip-hop talent of East Asia to the world.

Why do you think it’s now standard for the teal alt to get pants? It works well for Parr but for the other three typical teal covers (Seymour, Boleyn, Howard) I feel like the shorts would suit better. Seymour is sort of a stretch but teal has actually never played Seymour with pants - it’s either been a skirt (Liz, Bryony, Shannen) or shorts (Jen, CJ, Vicki)

I think it was ultimately a redesign for Paisley Billings as a result of the changing cover/costume system.

Similar to what you pointed out with Seymour, teal didn’t always have a super clear default. It did originate with shorts, with Vicki Caldwell, Jennifer Caldwell, and Cherelle Jay all wearing shorts as either their primary or one of their primary variations. But then Nicole Kyoung-Mi Lambert had shorts but they weren’t a primary variation, and Bryony Duncan, Elizabeth Walker, and Shannen Alyce Quan all never had shorts OR a particularly generic variation in general. (Also, quick note that Jen did wear her H skirt for Seymour).

Compare that to pink alt, orange alt, and redesigned black, which all always had a consistent primary variation even when some had different variations on top of the main:

So by the time they got to 2021 West End cast change and the changed alt system, orange/pink both had obvious designs to use, but teal didn’t have anything standardized. That’s probably how we got to the spot of there even being something new.

But as far as why they decided to go for pants rather than shorts or a skirt:

A. Danielle and Paisley got switched in their alt costume assignments, with Paisley originally being intended to have orange. This was after at least initial fittings. It may have been even farther into the process. It’s possible that Paisley got pants purely because she had already been fit and patterned (or with construction even started) for pants with orange alt. That may be supported by the style of her pants, which were the front lacing style that orange typically has. This differed from both all previous teal pants and the next variation as worn by Grace Melville, all of which had side lacing, although with Monique Ashe-Palmer they have switched back to front lacing. So…it’s possible that it was a logistical thing with her having just already been fitted for that style of pants. It’s also just more straightforward and easier to consistently fit for future actors.

B. Still might have just felt like pants were the best fit for Paisley and/or her covers. Shorts were mainly just given as a convenience thing to the alts who were also Cleves covers so they’d only need to change the top, which Paisley obviously didn’t need since she wore principal for Cleves. A skirt would have been most in line with the typical design for B/S/H as 3/4 of her 2nd/3rd covers, but they may have felt like it just wasn’t a good fit for any number of reasons (maybe too many skirts between principals and it being the primary variation for Esme/Rachel/Roxanne). The pants with peplum is undeniably a Parr variation, but Parr was one of her second covers and orange alt for Seymour/Parr has always used pants with peplum as well. The peplum shape also really helps to visually distinguish it. Might have just felt like it was ultimately still different and generic enough to work.

Detroit rapper Bo$$ has died at age 54. Bo$$ was the first woman to be signed to Def Jam West. DJ Quik discovered her after she relocated to Los Angeles after high school and put her on "Mai Sista Izza Bitch" with AMG. Russell Simmons heard the song and signed Bo$$ to a deal with Def Jam West. Her 1993 debut album Born Gangstaz produced two number-one rap hits "Deeper" and "Recipe Of A Hoe." Bo$$ had the image of a rough street dweller but her album's intro revealed her middle-class origins that included a Catholic School education, ballet, and piano classes. In 1993, there were no other women rappers posing with guns and wearing straitjackets in their videos. Simmons and his marketing team had crafted Bo$$ into the first woman gangsta rapper. Fans did not care that the image was false because Bo$$'s rap skills and charisma in front of the camera sold the show. AMG, MC Serch, Jam Master Jay, and Erick Sermon were amongst the producers who made Born Gangstaz a classic. DJ Premier posted to Instagram to give his condolences and he revealed that they did a remix of "Deeper" that was never released.

She relocated to Houston, Texas in the mid '90s to work with rapper Ricardo Royal aka Coco Budda and they had a personal relationship that produced a son. Def Jam rejected the demos she recorded and dropped her from the label. She spent the rest of the '90s working as a radio DJ with a hip-hop show on KKDA-FM. By the end of the '90s she was battling kidney failure and her relationship with Royal ended. In 2001, she worked on Krayzie Bone's Thug On Da Line album. She released her Six Million Dollar mixtape in 2004. Her health issues escalated in 2011 and she reached out to the Facebook community for a kidney donor. In 2017, she had a stroke and by 2021 a GoFundMe was created to help pay for a medical procedure. The fundraiser surpassed the $15,000 goal. Bun B posted about Bo$$'s passing on his Instagram page and Jermaine Dupri, 9th Wonder, The D.O.C., Mia X, Chuck D, and Slim Thug left comments. Any woman rapper who has rapped about the violent aspects of streetlife has some kind of direct or indirect link back to Bo$$.
