hot shit!suit edition: just unintentionally hot things they do when in a suit.

warnings: idk, maybe slightly suggestive? pretty tame, might do an nsfw edition.

a/n: aka me going off on a tangent on men who are in suits. like there's just something about them that gets me going.

the cuffs.

snapping his arm up to fix the cuffs of his sleeves, especially if he does it to check the time on his watch. he flicks his wrist so fast that you often miss it. or when he takes off the cuff pins in order to roll the sleeves up to his elbows when things start to get serious.

the tie.

there's something about how he goes to grab his tie and adjust it a bit, not necessarily loosening it or taking it off, just touching it or slightly moving it around. this is often paired up with his adam's apple bobbing up and down instinctively.

you often notice that he goes for his tie subconsciously when he's talking to you, in a staff meeting or working on his computer, pausing for a moment to readjust it before going back to the email he was typing up.

the suit harness.

he doesn't wear if often but if you or anyone else are in his vicinity at the right time, you'll be able to get a quick glimpse of the suit harness that wraps around his shoulder as he pulls and readjusts the lapels of the suit jacket in order for it to sit perfectly on his broad shoulders. the action is done so quickly that it's there and gone as it mmediately gets covered.

buttons.

it's a common occurrence for him to unbutton the first button of his shirt if he's going overtime. he'll unbutton the second if he's very stressed. his collarbone and what alludes to a well defined chest can only be seen if he loosens his shirt to the second button.

his suit straining.

the front of his pants is always straining when he puts his hands in the pockets, the fabric stretching to accommodate how big they are (especially when he clenches his hands into fists). if he's leaning against his desk, it's less prominent in that area, but his thighs make up for it.

it also often hugs his ass really well when he has to bend down to tie his shoes or is leaning down to get a better view of whatever his colleague is trying to show him on their computer.

when he has his elbows on the table, hands clasped together, the sleeves are a second skin to his bulging forearms. it does little to hide what his build looks like. this is especially true on days where he works upper body; the dress shirt is barely being held on. the shirt is being stretched out so much that there are gaps between the buttons and if you're lucky enough, you'll be able to get peaks of his skin from underneath.

the suit jacket.

when he's networking and talking to a group of young guys who are just starting out at his company, he stands there shoulder width apart, one hand in a pocket while the other is holding his suit jacket that he threw over his shoulder.

or when he is wearing the jacket, but its only on his shoulders and his arms are not in the sleeves. you often wonder how he manages to get it to stay but you're not questioning it when it looks so good on him like that.

his shoes.

at any social gatherings that you attend with him, your legs are neatly crossed at the ankle and you feel the cool leather point of perfectly shined derby shoe trail up the length of your shin. you already know its him sitting beside you without turning to look at him in your seat. it's nothing sexual, just him watching you socialize while he sips from his champagne glass with all the ease in the world.

Secret Boyfriend

Jason met his boyfriend in a rather peculiar way: he was doing his usual rounds, disposing of the dregs of society with a couple of bullets and offering shelter to hapless victims when one of his victims began to...revive?

The easiest way to put it was that the bastard turned glowing green, and Jason had collaborated enough times with Justice League Dark to know that something supernatural was coming.

Before the whole process was complete, however, another portal opened and out stepped a pretty pissed off guy. The spirit that had just been born was intimidated by the new spirit and Jason could only watch dumbfounded as the twink destroyed the former serial killer with scathing words and scolding.

He was instantly smitten and began flirting with the rabid spirit. It wasn't long before Danny reciprocated his flirtations and well, Jason could tell it was the best thing that had happened to him all year.

On the other hand, the Batfamily was worried about Jason's constant disappearances and his sudden calmness. Fearing the worst (and seeing that they couldn't leave a matter unresolved) they decided to investigate, much to the chagrin of the Crime Lord who responded to their interrogations with deflections and continued to hide his boyfriend as best he could.

Danny thought it was a fun game and just went along with it. Tim was stressed and wanted to get it all over with.

thinking about timjay siren AU on this fine saturday...

tim is a siren who is fascinated by the human world and frequently goes up to shore to watch the town. his favorite human in the whole wide world is a prince by the name of dick grayson. dick is the only human who has ever caught tim at the surface - when tim was tiny and not yet particularly agile, he managed to get stuck by some rocks and dick found him and helped him back into the water before he could be found by anyone who might hurt him.

after that dick visited when he had time but not frequently, until he disappeared entirely and tim didn't even see him wandering about town. he hears from the towns people that dick had moved to a neighbouring (landlocked) town for his schooling and tim is devastated.

this is until! king bruce brings home another son (jason) and dick starts visiting gotham (and in turn tim) again! tim is super grateful to jason for bringing dick back to gotham even if he never meets the guy and starts to watch him from time to time as well.

when jason dies the entire town mourns, including tim, not just for the fact that dick no longer comes around to see him, but also because he had come to love jason and the stories dick would tell about him in his own strange way.

tim only catches glimpses of dick and bruce after jason dies but he can tell how much his absence hurts them, and they never really truly recover.

fast forward a couple years and tim is swimming around a little bit off shore when he spots a new pirate ship he's yet to see, and when he breaches the surface to get a better look he hears the crew chanting for their captain jason to do some silly trick shot or the other with his guns. tim is sure it's just a coincidence, there's tons of people named jason out there, but the ship nags at him and it's sure to be interesting anyways, so he follows it until he gets a good look at the captain one day. sure enough, it's jason, changed, older, not as soft around the edges, but it's jason.

tim knows immediately that he has to get jason back to dick, but he hasn't seen dick in years and wouldn't know the first step in getting the word out to him. guilty over not being able to reunite the two, he decides that the least he can do is protect the ship. the waters have grown ever more dangerous since jason died, and tim has no way of knowing how prepared he is for the challenges ahead, so he tails along with the ship as much as possible.

he grows fond of the rest of the crew (especially roy... jayroytim you call for me...) as he follows them, and he longs to join in as they sing into the long hours of the night. unfortunately, tim knows that he can't reveal himself sailors have a terrible track record with siren encounters, and he's sure jason would see him as a threat the second his sharp teeth or strong tail were in his sights.

he's forced to reveal himself however, when one night a mighty storm hits and directs jason's ship, tearing at the boards, until a strike of lighting sets the ship ablaze and splits it open. by a stroke of luck, they happen to be close enough to a small island that tim is able to drag the pirates from the wreckage and to shore. many of them are injured, jason having gotten the brunt of it with a broken arm, but tim manages to save them all.

for the next week tim spends his days catching fish and dropping them off at shore for the pirates to eat, and each night jason calls out for their mysterious savior. tim is still scared of what the crew would do if he were to reveal himself, but he's been so lonely since dick left for bludhaven, and jason sounds so grateful...

he reveals himself eventually, waking up jason while the rest of the crew is asleep and shushing him with a clawed hand to the mouth when he almost screams. it is an incredibly bad first impression, jason definitely thinks he's about to get eaten. but tim manages to clear up the situation and jason realizes that tim is the one who saved them and so they end up chatting for a bit until jason gets too tired and goes back to sleep.

they become friends very quickly, helped along with how jason loves to drag out tim's sharp wit and tim loves the way jason tells stories and his love for his crew. jason is also very curious about how sirens live, and why tim hasn't tried to kill him yet (every time he brings it up tim is just like... do you want me to eat you? strangle you with my tail? rip your throat out with my claws? is that what you're angling for? and tim means to make fun of him for asking silly questions but jason just gets flustered and quiet).

when tim brings up the bruce and dick question jason gets very defensive and upset and while tim is desperate to reunite them, he feels tenuous enough in his position as is, and he knows the way to convince jason isn't to piss him off, so he lets it go.

eventually the rest of the outlaws notice jason sneaking off from their camp at night and send roy in to figure out what on earth jason is doing, and tim is very frightened when roy finds them at first, but as soon as thats over theyre getting on somehow perfectly and horribly, and jason is pretty sure the two of them are going to send him to an early grave.

once the crew has recovered enough, they start working on building a ship to return to town with and tim, scared to be left behind happily offers to help push and steer them.

when they get back to gotham and the outlaws start building their new real ship, jason includes a little pool so tim can be part of their crew <3 tim mostly just follows by behind them while they move around, but he likes to go up there to hang out with jason at night.

eventually they do circle back to the dick and bruce question, jason pretty much outright refuses to see bruce. but it becomes very clear very quickly that he's as desperate to see dick as tim is, possibly even more so, and tim eventually helps him build up the courage to seek dick out.

meanwhile tim and jason are falling terribly obviously in love, the rest of the crew wants them to get together so badly, but they're nervous, oblivious losers so they dont. theyre practically living together despite being a land and water creature respectively and they still refuse to believe the other could reciprocate.

they joke a lot about how tim should be their figurehead, until they eventually just go ahead and have one sculpted in his image. it might as well be a love confession.

Jason Todd's timeline and "Age"

So, there's a lot of discussion of Jason Todd's age esp as relative to other sidekick vigilantes, particularly Tim and Mia. I believe the exact words are usually something about a "grown ass man beating up/trying to kill teenagers."

DISCLAIMER: This particular post is specifically regarding the "grown ass man vs teenagers" statement, I have posts regarding the "tried to kill them" portion and other stuff like "seriously Jason Todd is like being shot by a marshmallow gun compared to what goes on directly before and after him in these incidents, also you don't bitch about the right stuff, also a lot of you prop up characters who are Objectively Worse, and no that's not hate on your fave it's just me calling out hypocrisy". It just takes time to find digital copies of the panels I'm using. NOTE I AM NOT JUSTIFYING HIS ACTIONS. I'm just saying y'all blow it out of proportion for petty character hate. Like, shit, they're superheroes. Jason's soooo fuckin' tame. He's not even framed as a big deal to the teens it's only the adults that think it's that much of a problem.

Now, to start off, we all know Jason died at 15 & a few months off from 16 (if you want me to dig up panels, sure, but I figured at this point that wasn't in question). Tim at this point is somewhere between 12-13, and we have this panel in Lonely Place of Dying which takes place a few months later:

So that's a ballpark of 2-3 years between Jason and Tim.

But Tim's age is really fucky and they keep de-aging him tbh. We can extrapolate that his confrontation with Jason was between the ages of 16-17 bcs it's after the arc where he has his incredibly shitty 16th birthday in Robin Vol2 #116 and before Red Robin where he's stated to be 17. This would put Jason between 18-19 at the time. (If you really want me to find panel sources for Tim's birthday and his age in RR then, sure, but I don't think they're necessary. I used it more as a guidepost for Jason's age, since we have a clear idea of what the age gap is.)

At least, on paper.

Mia for her part I've had a hard time finding like, on panel mentions of her age and if anyone can direct me to it being explicitly stated I'd love that. I'm rereading old comics but it's a LOT of comics to hunt down & dig through. To my understanding she was fifteen when Ollie first met her, and there's at Minimum of about a year and a half between that to her meeting Red Hood, more likely at least two? because there's at least few months between that and her joining the Titans, the Doctor Light stuff, then One Year Later, and then returned to Star some 3 months after Ollie came back to run for mayor? And then Jason not too long after. So, two years feels safe. Puts her at 17-ish, Jason at 19-20

Once again, I specify: on paper.

People would happily point out at this point that the upward stretch of a 4 year age gap is a "huge gap in maturity." And yeah, under normal circumstances, I'd agree.

But, and this is going to get contradictory bcs I found Two different timelines (BOTH written by Winick, lmao), and depending on how you read it it could be up to three different possibilities. Let's Start with Batman Annual #25: Daedalus & Icarus.

Timestamp before Jason's resurrection, which is pretty well known at this point:

Next, him waking up from a coma afterwards, when he escapes the hospital:

Now the above could be interpreted as either 1 year after he died if we're assuming that it's using the same "start" point to count as the resurrection (unlikely), or one year after he came back (more likely).

Next, the timestamp right before a guy recognizes him and sells him out:

And, finally, the timestamp before being put in the Pit:

That is, count it up, between 3-3 1/2 years where Jason was dead, in a coma, or otherwise not particularly... cognizant of the world around him. His ass is NOT developing emotionally, socially, or mentally like this, which pretty handily bridges the gaps there. Taken at face value, Jason's maturity level is going to be, unironically, younger than Tim's in the wake of these setbacks.

Now, if we go to Lost Days issue 1, it doesn't specify how long he was dead, nor how long he was in a coma, so we'll just carry those two over, what we DO have is this from just after Talia brought him home:

This puts him as being on the streets for five months, so we're at just shy of two years so far. And then we have this:

Which is right before Talia puts him in the Pit.

So, in summary: 6 months dead, 1 year coma, 5 months on the street, and something like 1-1 1/2 years with the League which...

Actually puts us on almost the exact same timeframe either way. 3 to 3 1/2 years. It just changes whether Jason was on the streets or with the League for longer.

And is utterly incomprehensible because comic timelines are a freaking nightmare.

If we're being generous, then that would put Jason at a minimum of 19, maybe toeing the line of 20 for UTRH, again, on paper, because like hell are you convincing me he did less than a year's worth of training abroad throughout Lost Days. Yeah maybe they trained him in fighting while he was catatonic, muscle memory and all that. But the other teachers that we KNOW of? The bombs, guns, probably something to get him up to date on handling all that tech we see him using, Egon, potentially arguably All-Caste if you want to draw from n52...

but you'd have to knock at least a year and a half off of his internal/personal development from death & coma, at minimum. Maybe you could argue he was somewhat developing while in his "the lights are on, but nobody's home" phase, you can't say it's at the same level as a normal person might when going about their day to day life, and it's difficult to measure. But he's not hitting the kind of milestones that he should be for his age. I wouldn't put him at anything less than two years behind. So if we use our upper estimates on Jason, and lower estimates on both the developmental setbacks and Tim/Mia's ages that gives us:

Jason toeing 20, mentally 18, fighting Tim at 16. 2 year gap, kind of stretching the physical age gap if we assume Tim had just barely turned 13 when he showed up to be Robin. - OR LESS

Jason maybe 21, mentally 19, fighting Mia at 17, two year age gap again. Honestly, still not that big of a difference - OR LESS

And, to be frank, that's not even counting the mental development issues that come from the intense physical trauma from dying - and I swear to fuck don't give me the "He's not the only one who died he's not special" speech.

HOW MANY OF THE OTHERS YOU'RE USING AS A GOTCHA LOST, *GESTURING AGGRESSIVELY ABOVE*, LITERALLY MULTIPLE YEARS OF THEIR LIFE.

Not counting adults, of course. Barry lost years, Hal lost years, Ollie I think also lost a couple years? but A) they came back still adults, bodies pretty much the same. B) While Jason's body didn't go through a magic growth spurt in canon, it did still grow esp while with the League.

I'll eventually get around to Titan's Tower & GA#72 (tbh, there are other people who've already done Titan's Tower and it'd probably be better than what I do, so I'm more going to focus on the latter, but there IS a specific part of the former that drives me nuts that I don't see brought up a lot), and maybe if we're feeling spicy all my issues with UTRH starting with how Winick is just as guilty of retroactively writing Jason as being inherently a bad penny since his Robin days as any of the other "modern" writers. Like, bud, Severe enough Head Trauma is legitimately enough to change someone's personality, not to mention trauma. It wouldn't hurt your narrative for that eerie difference, the Shade of What Once Was if you're really going for RH being Like that.

God. God I'm completely fucking insane about Dick and Jason

Their dynamic is everything to me. They have such a complicated relationship and history. They've been enemies and friends and almost-brothers. The what-ifs and should-have-beens and might-haves linger in between them so heavily. The guilt and grief sticks to their relationship and might never go away. They keep hurting each other but they love each other so much and they want to keep trying, to understand each other

Because that's what love is!! Relationships aren't perfect but that doesn't matter! They keep trying and they WANT to keep trying! Jason sees Dick for who he is and still thinks he's the most amazing thing he's ever seen. Dick has seen Jason at his absolute worst and still wants him around. They've both wanted the other dead and they've fought and gotten each other bloody and they still come back and offer a hand up.

They SEE each other- and that's terrifying. And they love each other so so deeply. The commitment, the sense of duty and obligation, it's all there. They don't HAVE to keep caring or trying- but they do regardless and God isn't that what love is? Trying?

Just. God they're so devoted to each other even when they've been hurt, even when they don't quite know how to show it or get the other to understand. But they try.

God, they try.
