From what I understand, the pre/post Crisis breakpoint, and the (is it called Flashpoint?) breakpoint prior to New 52 were actually situations that altered the timeline or merged multiple reality versions into one mainstream timeline and reality.

I believe it's canon that some people started remembering bits of their past selves that were written out of existence during those breakpoint situations. Tim in particular remembered pre-New 52 Young Just-us Bart and Kon, who weren't actually the same people as the New 52 Bart and Kon. It's complicated and confusing.

I've also heard that the first iteration of Jason as a circus acrobat Dick-clone was a poor choice made by the writers and management. Apparently the Titans comic team wanted to use Dick, but he couldn't be in two places at once. So the Batman team wrote him out, and decided to literally write a copy replacement for Robin. Guess they hoped fans wouldn't notice or care, but fans hated the copycat replacement idea. So the writers eventually rebooted his backstory to be a street rat tire thief instead.

But as far as fanfiction is concerned, if you want to cling to redhead Jason, and still be sort of canon compliant, you can probably finagle it. You could always have him remember being a redhead/blonde, even though he's a natural black haired guy now, and be confused about it. Or remember other things from his circus acrobat Dick-clone first iteration, and be confused by memories that seem to belong to Dick.

Maybe his magic protected his memory from the timeline rewrites, or the Pit scrambled his memories so much it unlocked past timeline versions of his memories. But he's still canonically black haired now.

I think it would be hilarious if he says something about being a redhead/blonde or a circus acrobat as a kid, and everyone else is so confused and concerned if he hit his head. Because they don't remember him ever being a redhead/blonde or being a circus acrobat kid. And Bruce never made him dye his hair to be Robin, he's always had black hair. And Bruce quietly worries about if his kids think he wouldn't care about them if they didn't have black hair.

We've all seen it, there's a post about Jason and someone comments on the post and brings up how when Jason first appeared as robin he had red hair and he had to dye it black to be robin.

This is not true in current canon and only had a brief window of existence in the comics so lets dig into the different hair colors we've seen on Jason, they are as follows:

Blonde (Pre-Crisis, before 1985)

Black (post 1985, like 23-24 years of Post Crisis?? a long time)

Red (~2 years of Post Crisis 2009-2011)

Black (New 52, 2011-2016)

Black (Rebirth, 2016 onward, current canon)

Pre-Crisis/ Golden Age - BLONDE HAIR

First appearance of Jason Todd was a little blonde circus boy like a Great Value recolored version of Dick Grayson and if I have to live with that knowledge then we all do.

A lot of people claim this version of Jason also had red hair and for anyone who wants to say this blatantly yellow hair isn’t blonde compare it to Vicki Vale’s actual red hair which is orange:

The assertion that Jason dyed his hair to be robin are not entirely false in this version, in Batman (1940) #366 Jay did dye his hair black so he could pass as Dick cause he wasn't officially robin yet but wanted to help Batman. Dying his hair made him look so much like Dick it actually did trick Batman and the Joker which is weird since Jason's like a child and Dick is like legally an adult at point but whatever. Either way it wasn’t Batman making him dye it, in fact Bruce was unhappy about it.

Blonde Jason is obviously no longer canon and hasn't been since.

Post Crisis/ Batman New Adventures - BLACK HAIR

Jason was first shown with black hair when he stole a tire off the Batmobile. This iteration of Jason's introduction is the one we all know today and is considered by most to be Jason's *real* debut.

This comic run is no longer canon but is often used as the backbone for new canon content.

Post Crisis 2009 to 2011 - RED HAIR

OK, here is where all the red hair lore comes in. During Dick's Batman run with Damian as Robin the writer (fuck you, Grant Morrison) decided to introduce this shit:

This made not only made no fucking sense in Post-Crisis continuity, but also Jason look stupid as fuck.

For some reason people have snatched this panel and held on to it with all their might. Which like - I mean, the idea of Bruce making a kid dye their hair to be robin is super fucking funny but like, c'mon dude. There are so many real reasons to judge Bruce already lmao.

Jason kept having red hair until the New 52. Its no longer canon.

New 52 - BLACK HAIR

So, I know there's a lot of discourse in the Fandom about whether jason is white or Hispanic or whatever and I wanted to give insight based solely on canonical evidence. This is not to shame anyone's headcannons or anything, I'm just giving my own opinion based on facts I've seen in comics (but I know DC flip flops things all the time)

1. Jason being Mexican or Hispanic

There is no evidence to support jason being Latino or Hispanic in any way. Canonically, he is described as a pale guy with dark hair and blue eyes. His biological mother is a blonde woman with blue eyes named Sheila haywood. His father, though probably not fully white, does not have any canonical evidence of any Latin heritage. The last name "Todd" is northern English and Scottish. "Haywood" comes from minor areas of old England. Jason has been seen a couple of times speaking Spanish or Portuguese. However, he's canonically a polygot from during his time in the league and has been seen speaking Russian just as much.

2. Jason is asian

While there's also no real evidence to support this in canon and his canonical description does discredit this headcannon, it does seem more logical than other headcannons. Willis Todd's appearance has been consistent with more asian like features (I'm not sure that sounds right, but I hope you understand what I mean) . Though, he does also appear with pale blue eyes.

Though, with his last name, it's more likely that his mother was of a different race, but his father was white.

Another reason people use is lady Shiva in his contact book. Here's how I see it. When Jason and Bruce went to look for jasons biological mother, they weren't paying attention to appearance of the woken they sought out, they were going solely based on the s names in his dad's book. Why is lady Shiva in his book, idk.

3. Jason is afrolatino

No. Just no. See reasons above

4. Catherine Todd is Hispanic so jason was raised in a Latin household

Catherine todd does not have any canonical evidence of being Hispanic or Latina in any way. Her description states that she's a blonde/redhead pale lady with green eyes. Her maiden name is Johnson, which is middle English and Scottish. She has never been seen speaking any languages other than white and there have been no allusions to her heritage that suggest Hispanic heritage.

In conclusion, canonically, it's safe to say Jason is probably you're standard white boy. The other possibility is slight percentage of Asian or indigenous heritage from his father's side, but his whole family is mainly white and possibly from England or Scotland.

And I know I said I wasn't going to shame anyone's personal preferences, but why is Jason the one that's so widely considered Latino? And why is he being made a different race to fawn over instead of giving actual Hispanic comic book characters the love they deserve? This is done alot too. Instead of acknowledging comic book POC comic book characters and their own stories, struggles, and badassness, people are turning white characters into poc characters and it doesnt make sense to me. I feel like there's some deep rooted racism there that the only robin from "the ghetto" is the robin who "can't possibly be white". And that point is backed up by the fact that there is no evidence to suggest that jason is Hispanic or Latino in any way, so I have no idea how this headcannon came to be.

Dick had adopted Jason Todd instead of Bruce?

I think we would end up with a situation very similar to Bruce and Jason in their early days except Dick would have Alfred and Bruce hanging over his head. I think Dick probably beat Bruce to the adoption and Bruce is super jealous. This causes Bruce to become some sort of rich uncle/grandpa that spoils Jason in an attempt to be the favorite. Alfred remains a steady presence and helps dick out like he always does (but the whole situation gives Alfie the worst deja vu in the world. constantly.)

Since this comes from the time when Jason was still a redheaded circus acrobat, I think the amount of flips would double in the most fun way. Dick would be an awesome mentor when it comes to the physical stuff. He has always been shown to love teaching and I think Jason would flourish under his tutelage.

I'm torn on whether or not Jason would die in this reality. I don't think his death would have the same impact or narrative appeal if he isn't robin under bruce as batman. I think it is more likely for Dick and Jason to go through some sort of break up like Dick and Bruce did. During this time it is still highly likely he would undergo the same training. Dick and Bruce would fight about method and what is the proper way to do things. Jason probably has a lot of the same feelings and I think he would still feel the same way about killing as Red Hood does in canon. Funnily enough, I think this would make him more similar to Bruce than Dick.

What is really tragic in this reality is when Jason outgrows Dick. Dick was not prepared for it.

Before I say anything I just want to clarify I do not read the comics, I more a fan of DC animated works but I have noticed things. I'll probably very a series of posts on my various (probably dumb) opinions I'd like to take a moment (or more) looking at Jason Todd.

Oh, and a warning I guess. Ya know, Jason's backstory and all.

He's a pretty weird character and I don't mean that in a bad way. It's moreso his characterization and he history with recons (a topic I'll likely rant about in another post). For those who don't know Jason has two origins. One that basically makes him Dick Grayson 2.0 but a redhead with the Flying Todds and the one where he steals the bat-tires where they make him look more like Dick. Hrm.... While I haven't read anything from his run as Robin I can understand why readers at the time didn't like him. The first Robin was a hard act to follow.

That brings me to his time as Red Hood. He's really strange has Hood when it comes to writing. Jason goes from comically evil to morally grey anti-hero depending on the writer. I know pit madness is the excuse but that was a recon made outside of canon. (And at this point I don't know if it the writers or fan making it up.) Now the writers have him mostly chill with the Batfam. (Unless it's Gotham Wars and Bruce, I have so much to say about Bruce, the Batfam as well.)

Another thing I find funny about Jason Todd is his antis. I saw some talking about how he was conservative and pro gun propaganda which is... Something. My own personal beliefs aside Red Hood is absolutely not that. When he's using guns and killing criminals the story paints him as the bad guy. Although his stans aren't much better because they tend to downplay all the bad stuff he's done. Man has a kill count over 100 and has shot children (Damian). Not saying redemption isn't possible but still.

I hope this hasn't giving anyone the idea that I dislike Jason. I actually do like him. I think he works better as an anti-hero than outright villain but that's my opinion, it's not worth much.

I think most people know this, but Marvel's version of Thor is not a lot like the Norse god Thor. You've got blond, discovering-himself Hemsworth vs. redhead, bulky, fairly aggressive god. Which is fine (I guess, I mean, I LIKE when people accurately depict deities every now & then, but whatever). Norse Loki swings violently between "that funny guy we adopted into our fam" & "guy who pisses everyone off". Sounds similar to Marvel Loki, except the family tree is totally different & Marvel Loki usually only does bad stuff because he's jealous of Thor.

I figured I'd make my own Asgardian, because I'd decided I COULD NOT make my DC OC (whose FC is Tessa Thompson) crossover into Marvel/the MCU. I read about the Norse gods & was attracted to Skadi because 1) I'm a sucker for water/ice supernaturals & 2) she reminded me of Artemis. Short version: Skathi (alt. spelling of the Norse goddess) is a jotunn (Frost Giant) who gets tricked into marrying the Vanir god Njord by Loki. They divorce because he doesn't wanna move to her mountains & she doesn't wanna move to his sea. Oh & she got to marry a Vanir (or Aesir) because Loki killed her dad (sort of). So we've got a rightfully angry, badass huntress of the mountains whose dad dies. I focused on that, but really leaned into her having some warmth that she only shows to animals & those who prove their kind natures to her. My Skadi doesn't use her cryokinesis much because she prefers to rely on her hunting skills & (my HC) Jotunn appreciate resourcefulness.

I'll be honest: I have crushed on Anakin since I was FIVE. I think I liked his hair in Episode III. I read parts of Wookiepedia in middle & high school, just in time for the new movies. I thought "holy SHIT, Jacen Solo is like Jason Todd + Anakin, he'll be so BADASS" but ofc we can't have ANYTHING NICE, so we got...the sequels (& like 30 books being cut from canon). Yeah, well, I still like magic ninjas, so I wanted to make a Jedi.

Initially, I was going to do a version of my DC OC aka make a self-insert, then subtract any Mary Sue-ishness. Nah. I picked one of my favorite SW races, the pretty Twi'lek & looked at my list of Western Zodiac characteristics. I hadn't really made many introverted, bookish OCs, so I made Rela into one. I read all the lore on Twi'leks & looked up how long it takes to go up the Jedi ranks. Once I figured out what her whole timeline might look like, I squooshed her into Anakin's peer group at the Temple :D also I absolutely LOVE it whenever someone can dual-wield blades or handguns. IRL, it takes a lot more skill than people realize. Oh & I love purple (Rela's skin color)! It was a coincidence to find that her RL FC, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, starred in a movie where she had purple hair!
