It’s been over six years and I still dislike the Rose Quartz is Pink Diamond twist.

For brevity I will be abbreviating Rose Quartz as “RQ” and Pink as “PD.” Vague Bojack horseman spoilers at the end.

I’m not posting this to start a discussion, I just want to get it out because I’ve cycled into another Steven Universe nostalgia phase and my annoyance for the decision came back. SU is hard for me because I still love it, flaws and all. The PD twist wasn’t surprising to me, the fandom had been speculating for years at that point. No, I had suspicions but I had hoped the show wouldn’t go in that direction.

I don’t dislike the twist because it was poorly foreshadowed, it was set up well, though I have a critique of that, I dislike for subjective reasons. I think SU really wanted us to hate RQ/PD. Many shows do use their narratives to do so, but SU felt…annoying about it. I don’t hate PD. I never did.

Let me start with RQ. The show spends most of its time deconstructing the rose colored view of RQ. The reverse character arc was done beautifully and I loved it. RQ wasn’t this perfect leader and revolutionary. She fucked up and made terrible, reckless decisions. She dumped a great burden on her son and team. Steven and the crystal gems reconciling with that is great. No notes. Then, season 5.

The original show has 5 seasons and we get the PD twist in season 5. After spending most of the show deconstructing RQ and having us and the cast recontextualize her actions the writers throw in another loop that causes an even bigger recontextualization. RQ goes from being the complex, flawed leader to a childish tyrant. PD has a human zoo she never tries to fix, she faked her death which led to the deaths and forced fusions of hundreds of gems, and pearl…my god, this twists hurts Pearl.

If the PD twist happened earlier in the show, I think I would’ve liked it more. The show spent too much time on RQ so when we get PD it feels like another arc tacked on after we get through RQ.

Pearl is my favorite character out of a cast I love. She goes from a pearl, designed to love and obey her master that rebels against that role and becomes her own person to a typical pearl. RQ wasn’t a person she chose to love and follow. RQ was her diamond. She followed her like the other pearls follow theirs. Pearl goes through so much development in the show and then this twist happens. First, I refuse to believe that Pearl never needed to censor herself from revealing RQ true identity up until then. It would’ve been nice to see the hand over mouth thing in prior seasons.

I liked the story of a gem rebelling against a cruel, rigid society and her pearl who chose to become an autonomous being that gave her love and loyalty. No, RQ is just the basic reveal of being the person she killed, Pearl is loyal like she’s designed to be, and the show makes RQ look even worse. We get it, RQ sucks.

Finally Spinel. Spinel, and to an extent SU Future, is why I think the show really wants us to hate RQ/PD. I liked the movie, i loved the songs, I love Spinel, it was completely unnecessary. We move on with homeworld barely explored and the diamonds with the shortest arc imaginable to another reason why we should hate RQ. PD had another gem she abandoned like her og pink pearl. Pink pearl was already enough to drive the point home, much less the human zoo. No, we have spinel, a gem never mentioned by anyone ever—looking at you pearl—who suddenly appears out of nowhere. Why? What other purpose was there to her character than to reiterate that RQ was a selfish person with a tendency to use and toss away those around her? Did that require a whole movie?

I hoped the show would do something unique instead of this basic narrative. The twist was so obvious that I had hoped for something different. There are so many things that I love about SU, but this never sat well with me. I wish the show explored home world, I wish the diamonds were interrogated about being space n*zis and had longer arcs to justify their new behavior, I wish Connie and Lars had more time to shine.

Bojack Horseman spends its six seasons hammering it home that Bojack is a terrible person, but it does that from the start. It’s a consistent thing, like revealing RQ’s flaws, the biggest twist of him wanting 17 mins to call for help isn’t that shocking. He does stuff as terrible practically every season.

Currently sitting in a cafe, reading a book (Flowers over the Inferno in case anyone wants to know) and these 3 motherfuckers. I can't remember the last time I wanted to punch a stranger!!!

Okay, so here in Brazil, our voice actor for Wolverine had sadly passed away a few years ago, which had devastated a lot of people, because be was very loved. Everyone loved his work, his voice, the life he gave to Wolverine in our country. Even Hugh Jackman himself met him in a trip once and gave us condolences for his death.

Now, Isaac Bardavid had spent years voicing Wolverine, both in the movies and in a few other medias. So, when Deadpool 3 was announced, people were asking how we would deal with Wolverine. Like, who's going to voice him??

And A LOT of people had the audacity to suggest we use AI. To replicate Isaac's original voice. Like???????? The disrespect???

I saw the new trailer in Portuguese and the "new voice" for Wolverine is Luiz Feier Motta, who voiced Logan in X-Men Evolution here in Brazil. And he sounds different from Isaac. More gruff and deep. And, yeah, it's different from the voice we associate with Hugh Jacksman's face, but it's not bad. We're used to Luiz Feier's voice too. We used to watch him as Logan as kids.

And yet someone (I don't know who), a fan, still made a version of the Deadpool trailer using AI to replicate Issac's voice. It's just .... ???? I haven't even watched that video, and I won't because it's fucking surreal that someone would do it.

Even Isaac Bardavid's grandson said that his grandfather would think it was nice that a fan would miss him that much to try to use his voice to make the video. And yet he would also think it's shitty to do it.

I know people missed Isaac and his voice and his work, and maybe this fan had no bad intentions, just wanted to show other fans how it would be if we still had Isaac, but I also think it's disrespectful to do it. Using AI to replicate people's work, specifically someone who had passed away, is disrespectful. Haven't we learned nothing????

here's a little number i'm calling the audacity of jean grey. i have always vaguely not liked her in the movies and truth be told it's not even her fault. jean was at her most interesting when she wasn't attached to the bad love plots in my opinion.

girlie was out there really not fully shutting down logan's advances on her when she was fully engaged to scott. they kept up the premise that she was giving logan just enough to keep him on the hook. she was flirting with an emotional affair with him and logan is very clearly a person starved for love and affection who is willing to take scraps because that's all he believes he deserves.

not that this absolves logan from being brazen as hell about his interest in her knowing she's in a committed relationship. like my guy you met 5 minutes ago calm down. but again he's starved for affection, attention and connection so him becoming attached so quickly despite his protests otherwise make sense. he was the same with rogue.

tl:dr i hated the love triangle nonsense in the movies. give me more plot less badly done messy romance bullshit.

is there any invader zim ships you like? it is a bit hard to find enjoyable ships in the fandom, since most of the popular ones are pretty gross. Tatr (tak and tenn) is a pretty interesting, underrated crackship that ive seen before, some pretty nice artpieces are out there!

I somewhat disagree with the theory that Joe was pretending to be liberal/not MAGA in the past. It’s weird that he would stand up against racism, for women’s rights, etc back when he had a lot more to lose if that was the case. His oldest friends from high school are also not MAGA. I think it’s more likely that his big contract and four years of propaganda from sources like Joe Rogan, etc have radicalized him for the worse.

I have a 6 month old named Konrad.

Gonna be real I kinda forgot Warhammer 40k existed in the later half of my pregnancy as I'm more into Warhammer Fantasy. And also the name Konrad is a good strong name for a firstborn son.

But dear god I wanna post pictures of him and his cute little FACE.

I love my tiny Night Lord even when he pulls my hair really fuckin hard and pulls strands of my hair out. I still love the tiny Night Lord even if he screams and is currently going through a phase where he no longer wishes to sleep in his crib but only with/on mom or dad. And I certainly love the little velociraptor noises he makes when he is happy.

I think the reason why I want to post pictures of him is because of all of that dopamine I get when looking at him (which is kinda the point in making sure I continue to take care of him) but... I won't

Before I say anything I just want to clarify I do not read the comics, I more a fan of DC animated works but I have noticed things. I'll probably very a series of posts on my various (probably dumb) opinions I'd like to take a moment (or more) looking at Jason Todd.

Oh, and a warning I guess. Ya know, Jason's backstory and all.

He's a pretty weird character and I don't mean that in a bad way. It's moreso his characterization and he history with recons (a topic I'll likely rant about in another post). For those who don't know Jason has two origins. One that basically makes him Dick Grayson 2.0 but a redhead with the Flying Todds and the one where he steals the bat-tires where they make him look more like Dick. Hrm.... While I haven't read anything from his run as Robin I can understand why readers at the time didn't like him. The first Robin was a hard act to follow.

That brings me to his time as Red Hood. He's really strange has Hood when it comes to writing. Jason goes from comically evil to morally grey anti-hero depending on the writer. I know pit madness is the excuse but that was a recon made outside of canon. (And at this point I don't know if it the writers or fan making it up.) Now the writers have him mostly chill with the Batfam. (Unless it's Gotham Wars and Bruce, I have so much to say about Bruce, the Batfam as well.)

Another thing I find funny about Jason Todd is his antis. I saw some talking about how he was conservative and pro gun propaganda which is... Something. My own personal beliefs aside Red Hood is absolutely not that. When he's using guns and killing criminals the story paints him as the bad guy. Although his stans aren't much better because they tend to downplay all the bad stuff he's done. Man has a kill count over 100 and has shot children (Damian). Not saying redemption isn't possible but still.

I hope this hasn't giving anyone the idea that I dislike Jason. I actually do like him. I think he works better as an anti-hero than outright villain but that's my opinion, it's not worth much.
