What do you make of the change the New52 made with Catherine and Sheila in Jason's Death storyline?

Despise it. And I've argued with plenty of other so called Jason fans on this one. They all hated Sheila and were happy to see her removed from canon but the fact is all they did was give her story to Catherine thus tainting the one good person Jason had in his early childhood. Jason fans need to realise you're meant to hate Sheila, she sold a young boy, her own son out to the Joker. They also need to realise just cause someone is bad to Jason doesn't mean they shouldn't exist for the purposes of the story. Sheila being an awful mother, an awful person, is necessary for Jason's story while tainting Catherine with that storyline removes the one adult figure in Jason's life that he felt didn't actively seek to hurt him even if she still let him down in another way.

Jason feeling ostracised in Bruce's family, finding out Catherine wasn't his birth mother and realising he had a chance at a parental connection with someone who might appreciate him only for that woman to turn him over to the Joker is heartbreaking and contributes to Jason's later unwillingness to trust people (unless you're Talia cause for some reason DC and some Jason fans think that woman is a saint when she used Jason just as much as everyone else, if not worse in many ways and is no better than many of Batman's other Rogues). However, despite this betrayal Jason still tries to save Sheila in the end showing that despite what DC want us to think nowadays about Jason as Robin, he was good at heart, he died a hero, trying to save a woman who sold him out and watched as he was beaten bloody with a crowbar. This is integral of Jason's character, it shows that he was more than the cautionary tale that Batman and modern DC want to turn him into. He was a hero.

Also easily the worst part about the change in the New52 is it makes Jason's entire life the product of some scheme by the Joker. I hate that. Not everything in comic books needs to be some massive conspiracy. Sometimes things can just happen coincidentally. Jason was not the only orphan (or in this case fake orphan since Catherine was not dead in this scenario) on the streets, Batman could have stumbled across any of them, the fact he takes Jason in is entirely because of actions Jason chose to take, no one manipulated Jason into stealing the Batmobiles tyres.

For people who don't know basically in New52 Sheila was replaced with Catherine. Catherine was originally Jason's step mother in Post Crisis Canon but was changed here to be his biological mother. In original canon Jason's father was killed by Two-Face and Catherine died of an "illness" speculated to either be a drug overdose or some form of cancer that she took drugs to try and dull the pain. Regardless Jason ends up orphaned on the streets and then found by Batman when he steals the wheels off the Batmobile to try and sell them for money. Then Jason finds out Catherine is not his real mother and goes searching for Sheila and finds her in Ethiopia where she's working with the Joker (admittedly unwillingly but she's being blackmailed due to her stealing charity funds so honestly I don't feel bad for her in that situation) and Jason tells her he's Robin and can help her with the Joker and instead of taking him up on that offer she sells him out to the Joker.

In New52 the Joker meets Jason pre death of his parents and orchestrates everything. Willis Todd's death, he fakes Catherine's death to leave Jason "orphaned" so that he'll be taken in by Batman and made into Robin, he then threatens Jason by revealing Catherine is alive and that's how he gets Jason to the warehouse where he beats and kills him.

I just hate that. I hate the idea that the Joker basically controlled every part of Jason's life even BEFORE he killed him. Newer DC writers seem obsessed with Jason being a puppet to the Joker due to him being Red Hood, constantly tied to the clown rather than acknowledging Jason taking the name Red Hood is his way of regaining some agency in his own life by taking from the man who took from him. But to a degree I can understand thinking post resurrection Jason is in a way controlled by the Joker, his existence affects Jason. Having the young boy who thought being Robin made him magic also just turn out to be one of the Jokers sick pet projects is just callous, cruel and ultimately adds nothing substantial to Jason's character arc. It was poor writing and I'm thankful for the most part more modern comics seem to have tried to distance themselves from this god awful retcon and that fans seem to have never accepted it as canon to begin with.

The New52 Outlaws run had its moments but I'll he honestly I'm not a huge fan of Lobdell's storylines, overall characterisation wise i think he normally nailed Jason decently well but some of those plots were.... just not good. This is absolutely, 100% one of the worst ones.

I watched some of the DCAU 'Batman: Death in the family' while reading the B:DITF comic and tbh I don't really like the DCAU version. like I get their different stories but why not just have the Sheila plot point? Idk I just feel like I'm connecting more with comic Jason, he was just a kid who wanted to see his mother and she betrayed him. in the DCAU it's kinda like their saying 'ah well thats what you get for running off should listened'

Many people think Duke Thomas has almost zero interactions with the Batfam except Batman. And some think that Duke has the weakest relationship with the batfam. So, let me explain why they are wrong.

1. Dick Grayson literally mentored Duke Thomas. After rebirth, Dick always treated Duke as if Duke was his brother. Dick is the one who taught Duke what being Robin meant.(Robin War, Batman rebirth)

2. Cassandra Cain and Duke Thomas are siblings that actually care for each other They help and assist each other consistently. The best friendship and sibling relationship in DC universe in my opinion.(Batman and the outsiders, detective comics)

3. Damian Wayne and Duke are close enough to watch a movie together. Duke once blamed Damian for not helping Bruce and Damian agreed. Which shows that Damian is very friendly to Duke.(Robin War, batman 33)

4. Jason also helped Duke's training, and referenced Duke as one of his brothers. Duke consistantly made jokes about Jason dying, which shows that they are very close.(Role call, Red Hodd outlaw)

5. Duke assisted Helena Bertinelli's case with Firevrand and Neon. It was clear that Huntress trusted Duke's work and skill.(Unexpected 4)

6. Bruce Wayne trained Duke for two years. Without Duke, Bruce would've never recovered his memories. And Bruce first met Duke in Zero year, which was way before he met any other batfam members. They're basically father and son.(All star batman, Batman bloom etc)

7. Alfred Pennyworth was the one who decided to make Duke a robin. He gave Duke all the resources and helped him to become the hero of gotham. Even during the Cursed Wheel training, Alfred assisted Duke.(We are Robin, All star batman etc)

8. Tim Drake literally has a picture of Duke at his place.(Deathstroke 34)

9. When Jim Gordon was Batman, Duke was Robin of Gotham. When Orphan and mind controlled children attacked Gotham, him and Duke protected Gotham as Batman and Robin. And Duke once saved Gordon from Bane's men.(Batman and robin eternal, I am Bane)

10. When Batwoman was fighting against League of shadows, Duke assisted her with his research. He also assisted her battle against Monsters in gotham.(Detective comics, Night of the monster men)

Others: Duke mentioned about patrolling gotham with batgirl in Detective comics. When Batwing was captured by league of assassins, Duke told Batwoman that Luke Fox meant a lot to him, and he want to help in any way possible. Doctor Tompkins was the one who helped Duke find a foster family, and help him to get through his problems. Duke worked with Stephanie during the death metal event.

I honestly don't understand why people say Duke has almost no relationship with the batfam members. I think these stuff should be acknowledged more. Anyway, stan Duke Thomas.

Damian Wayne & Emiko Queen

I don't remember who it was, but on my Teen Titans review, someone commented that Glass not only did Damian's character dirty, but also Emiko.

I was super interested in finding out how Emiko should've been portrayed and been reading Green Arrow and let me say...Glass definitely did her dirty...

I really hope the new creative team, really attempts to somehow(because with how much they've been butchered by Glass) tries to fix the character assassination of both these characters.

And I am yet to find out if he did Wallace dirty too since I am still not well-read on Wallace's character.

a/n: I love writing about Jason HEHEHEHEH.. @king-wolfie this is da story that turned into a song.. LOL. Uhm but yeh it was supposed to be up yesterday, but my mind got in the way and created a friggin song anyways, hope you guys enjoyyy

We all have a passion or rather a longing. This could be happy or immensely morbid, but in your case it was him. He was your one shot at happiness. He brings you life with the simplest smile. You don’t know why he even bothers wasting time with you when he could be somewhere new, discovering places and seeing faces way more beautiful than you could ever be, but he doesn’t care.

He loves you and only you, and you love him only him.

His laughter is a joyous song to be heard, his eyes sparkle in the scariest winds. The feeling ineffable to begin and words could never explain a feeling so great and horrible at the same time. It was great for the obvious reason that he made you so happy, but it was horrible, because you know that one day this would end. Eventually one of you would die which is why you never waste a moment with him, but that was not the focus of this instance. This was cheerful tale.

“Jay, you love me, right?” You looked up at him. You were currently just laying down on the best pillow ever also known as Jason’s thighs. It was a uneventful Tuesday for the so called ‘Valentine’s day’. It was pretty much a average day, except for the gratuitous amount of cuddling and snuggling. It wasn’t the fanciest or most meaningful thing to do, but it was comfy and relaxing.

“No, I’m dating you, because I plan to uncover and exploit all your deepest confidential affairs.” He rolled his eyes with his signature sarcastic tone. You always doubted his love for you, not in a way that you believed he was with someone else, but in a manner that you couldn’t believe he really did love you. It was as if you were living a dream, but always had a negative nightmare voice reminding you that it will end one day or that he doesn’t genuinely love you. Although l these negative thoughts sprawled around your mind, his reassurance and adoration always cheered you up; even if it was in his sarcastic conduct.

“gee thanks for the reassurance.” You mumbled crossing your arms. You sat straight right after those few spoken words and now leaned your head over his shoulder. You wrapped your arms around him and hugged gently as if he was a fragile and soft teddybear which he actually sorta is.

“What’s with you being so clingy?” He asked not minding the hugs you were giving, but still curious as to why.

“It’s valentine’s day and I love you.” You replied nudging him playfully. He raised an eyebrow and looked you straight in the eye. You were such a child at times.

“I love you too, but I’ve got to go on patrol now.” He sighs standing up as your arms once wrapped around him let go. You never bothered protesting against his duty anymore. You knew that criminals need paid with the proper judgement they deserve and Jason was the only vigilante able to do so. Your boyfriend was a hero, and you had acknowledge the great and awesome perks just as much as the lonely ones.The only thing you would do on nights like these is wait for him. You sigh at the same time and Jason just walks over to the bedroom door.

Such agony occurred whenever you weren’t with him.

A few minutes later, he stepped out wearing his gear with his red helmet in hand. He inched near you expecting a little kiss on the cheek, but you just aimed for his soft lips. He instantly kissed back and you stayed in that position for about a minute until he pulled away, but still stayed close.

“You understanding I have a duty, means so much to me, you know?” He whispered into your ear. You chuckled as he stepped back.

“I know, dork.” You responded sitting back down on the l couch.

“Just please, remember to sleep.” He smiles before stepping out the window and shutting it close as a faint smile appeared on you face for that split second. That is how most lovely moments in life last, for a split second and by the time it’s passed and everything is back to how it was or even worst, only during that period is when you realize what a fool you were. Some of us may savor the moment completely and immerse ourselves in it, but even then, the happy memory is now in the distant past.

“If Jason thinks I’m going to sleep without him, he’s too wrong.” You mumbled chuckling to yourself. You scurried off into the kitchen for a cup of coffee.

He arrived at four in the morning, exactly. He had gently sneaked through the window doing his best not to make a ruckus. Once he was inside he set his helmet down on the coffee table and glanced looking for any sign of you until he realized the cup of coffee on the table. He turned his attention to the oddly shaped silhouette being covered by a blanket.

“(y/n)…?” He asked snickering lightly.

You quickly removed the blanket over your head to reveal you writing a short little song on your laptop. Jason flopped down beside you and placed an arm over your shoulder asking “and why is this young lady up at four am?”.

You eyes were quite squinted towards him and you sleepily replied “If-f-f you think I’m going to sleep without you here, you are very wrong, mister.” You tiredly pointed a finger at his chest. You were so cute. His rough hands met yours and he placed them down. His eyes looked down and thought of an idea.

“how about a deal, you sleep and i sleep?” He looks back up at you to see you’ve fallen asleep. You were snoring lightly in a heavy breathing sort of manner.

“Yep.” He mumbled hugging you tightly.

You could lose yourself over and over the sleepless nights and worries. You could be battered broken until your last dying breath. You could be emotionally hurt over and over by the expectations of life. You could literally lose yourself, but never him. You could never lose him.
