Personal story: When I moved to Brooklyn in the fall of 2012, I lucked out to have 2 roommates that worked in the food industry. One was a server (like me) and the other a pastry chef on the rise. Those first 2 years were filled with a lot of late nights, laughs, Mondays off and home cooked meals. When it was my time in the kitchen I reached for 2 things: 1) the phone to call my mom to ask her what I should make. And 2) my NYT subscription, specifically for the cooking section. One of the first recipes I recall making was a Dark Chocolate Pudding by @clarkbar 🍫 It was decadent and easy to make. I’m sure it also helped me hook @liveatthesavoy (7 years strong!). Since then, I’ve made many Melissa Clark meals, and consider her a guiding force in my culinary world. Armed with anchovies and a whole lot of confidence, I am delighted to take on her latest installment, Dinner in French. Having spent time in France myself, the memories of roasted duck, fresh fish wrapped in paper, produce from the market and all the wine in the world live on. At a time when being at home seems like the better option, I’m motivated to travel across the Atlantic through these pages. Day 2 of my Citrus fun time. Jalapenos, kumquats, lime, grapefruit and salt = green citrus kosho. Not as spicy as the red (since I removed the membranes from the jalapeños. Seriously regretting not leaving a little of it for more heat) but just as good. No need to wait for the cure; this one I have to say is even better than a salsa verde. And that's saying a lot by my standards. And I still have 8 little kumquats left. What to do with them?

As what looks to be a rain cloud descends over Drogheda this afternoon for the first time in about three weeks, we might have to cook dinner tonight indoors for a change 😣😭 All week we’ve been BBQing but in advance of a lot of meat this weekend, we’ve been experimenting with veg exclusively on the BBQ instead! 🔥🥦 This spicy brocolli with Young Buck blue cheese sauce was EVERYTHING! We made the rub with: - 1 tbsp Aleppo pepper - 2 tbsp smoked paprika - 1 tsp garlic powder - 1/2 tsp ground cumin - 1/2 tbsp soft brown sugar -1 tsp free flowing salt - 1/2 tsp white pepper Mixed together in a bowl. Blanch some broccoli, then drizzle some oil over it, then eh...rub the rub in, stick on the BBQ.
