You know what. Why do we as a touhou fandom not talk about the fact the pc98 songs are canon. They exist. In canon. Akyuu has them documented and has probably heard them. Someone within touhou's universe wrote them. Reimu could probably actually listen to her own theme. Were the songs actually written about the events of those games?? Was eternal shrine maiden written about reimu?? Was love colored magic written about marisa?? I'm going insane
#i could rant for hours about the fact there is a band in universe that apparently wrote them#thats mentioned in akyuus untouched score and pmiss#i might make a longer post about this eventually im just. obsessed with this fact#ive been rotating this in my brain for over a year i have so many thoughts about it augghhh#im just. honestly not super confident talking about my interpretations of obscure touhou lore#since im kinda worried that ill be wildly misinterpreting something#especially considering i cannot read japanese and translations arent always reliable#but god. i havent seen almost anyone talk about this and i think the implications are very very interesting..#touhou#touhou project

The lifting the lore does in glazing when none of the demigods are actually all that powerful is so funny. In fact, neither is Queen Marika.
When GRRM said, "I wrote these guys to be normal humans a long time pre-canon," he wasn't kidding.
Marika, all-consumingly powerful, can rewrite reality with the reality rewriting macguffin! Except where she can't rewrite her children AND herself not to be cursed, and can only just barely seal a couple of Outer Gods and not actually kill them. Where she can't just write the Hornsent or the Crucible out of existence, and instead has to sacrifice people for a miserable, honorless war. Turns out, she's just an average, rote god, but she has propaganda on her side, and maybe a slight homefield advantage. But she isn't special and never has been.
Radahn, mightiest demigod of the Shattering! Who got his ass kicked by some sewer-scented old man with a walking stick. Twice. Plus he couldn't properly siege Stormveil Castle. So his official score in "notable battles" is 1/3/1. That's a championship record if I've ever seen one, truly worthy of the "mightiest" title.
Malenia, the undefeated!!!! Because she had to throw her pride away just to *tie* the dude that got his ass kicked by a stinky geriatric, when she was actively trying to kill him. Sure, Caelid is a mess now, but all she did was slap an aeonia down; the scarlet aeonia and the rot itself propagated under its own power, she wasn't controlling it once it was unleashed.
Morgott: should therefore be as powerful or more than both of the above, but is a midgame boss, and not even a particularly difficult kill, with no particular skills other than a little holy magic, so who knows how he even got Radahn in the first place. Except if Radahn isn't actually as powerful as the glazing tells you he is, and therefore neither is Malenia.
And all of the above can get absolutely humbled by some naked dude with a stick.
I could also go on about how Miquella's plan makes a ton more sense if you take away the bullshit anime superpowers, but bullshit anime superpowers is what makes the video game a video game, so they gotta stay.
PS: "Prime Radahn" isn't actually that powerful; if his fight was only phase 1, he would be easier than Malenia, even before the nerfs. He is buffed by Miquella to be as punishing as he is in Phase 2 - You're not fighting "Prime Radahn" acting under his own power, you're fighting "Prime Radahn" with a pocket buff machine enhancing his abilities; it's the combined strength of Miquella and Radahn, actively trying to defeat you... and you STILL win.
But this is a poignant point about the way FromSoft makes their characters: Even in their "prime", they are still defeatable by a naked dude with a stick. Even in their "prime", they're not all-powerful. It's for the same reason FS never writes people in positions of power as unambiguously good: You are supposed to realize how falliable those in power are. You are supposed to question them, their intentions, and see through the illusion and transience of their "power". GRRM wrote the characters even weaker and more falliable than FS would, it seems, but even "buffed" - just like Radahn - they are still people, and just as susceptible to the faults that come with that.
#elden ring#starscourge radahn#malenia blade of miquella#morgott the omen king#there's a decent video I watched a while ago called “Why Do You Always Kill Gods in JRPGs?”#by Moon Channel#that points out how in a lot of Eastern cultures especially#gods are transient beings that can come from basically anything or anywhere#but just as one can rise to godhood#one can fall from it just as easily and become a mortal or even an evil presence#understanding how eastern cultures view deities could actually help a lot of people trying to analyze Elden Ring#understand a lot about how to interpret the story#It's using Western tropes a lot yes#but viewed through an extremely Eastern lens#If you're not from one of those Eastern cultures#just develop an unhealthy obsession with a media that is unapolagetically steeped in especially Japanese mythology and history#you'll gain even more Insight points analyzing Soulsborne afterward#I promise#(Mine was Touhou but I don't recommend that one for a myriad of reasons)

Something tells me that if ever they decide to animate “The Crow of Paradise/The Paradise of a Crow”, this could be made into a film.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/6c4dbdea6e85a51be0efe36f48addd31/558d47215e17db49-0b/s540x810/73334f068ece58f140c691f95d19e52f4d605d3c.jpg)
Or a live action?
I am on the first pages and I am seeing à la Wong Kar Wai scenes on my head with a young-ish Takuya Kimura as Hajime Yasuhara. (Okay, probably i am still holding on to his Howl voice, but he’s not only that.)
When it comes to manga adaptation, however, Natsumi Matsuzaki admitted that adapting it to manga is a challenge.
Matsuzaki : "The Crow of Paradise" came out right after we started the comic version of "Master"... I didn't know anything about the content of (Paradise), so after reading it, I thought, "I've gotten myself into something serious."
[Note: "The Crow of Paradise" is the first book in the second part of the Yatagarasu series, released in September 2020.]
… I was reading it at a café in Ikebukuro, and as soon as I finished reading it, I called (Abe-san) over... Abe was like, "Oh no, I've been called out!" (laughs). So, when I went to meet her, she looked at me with sparkling eyes as if to complain, and I thought, "Oh, good. It seems like 'The Crow of Paradise' will be okay..." (laughs).
Matsuzaki: But after that came out, and then the next one, 'The Crows of Remembrance,' I started to think, "This is getting difficult to adapt into a comic..." Is that so...?
…
Abe: From the perspective of the original author, this work is part of a series, so there is an overarching theme for the entire series. However, if you focus solely on that, each individual work might end up being incomplete.
Matsuzaki : That's right. It becomes blurred... The theme is too large.
Abe: That's why I create "major themes," "medium themes," and "minor themes." For a standalone piece, I focus only within that piece. For a main work, I focus only within that main work, and I resolve the "minor themes." But when you connect them all, a larger theme emerges... It's like creating a "mosaic picture."
Matsuzaki: But I haven't been told what the picture will look like. I try not to ask about the theme of a standalone piece, the theme of a main work, or the themes going forward. Instead, I interpret the words and events written in the current original work myself and try to create a coherent narrative.
(This q&a talk is included on the fourth volume of the manga.)
#yatagarasu#Chisato Abe#Natsumi Matsuzaki#the crow of paradise#natsumi is the No. 1 fan of the Yatagarasu series tbh#her thoughts on it are detailed and interesting and revealing if you look back at her Twitter from the 2019 and onward#before the announcement of the anime though#I don’t begrudge the anime tbh I love it to bits and it is the reason I am what I am right now#their interpretation of yukiya and his relationship with wakamiya#the character designs#the story#it is on another level#one Japanese fan I asked told me she’d love to see the succeeding books from the first part in the cinemas#hajime yasuhara

hey did you know that the sonic adventure perfect guide has a part written from the perspective of researchers who speculate that the surviving members of the knuckles clan after chaos' rampage split into two groups
did you know that one group of these survivors made the decision to create angel island using the master emerald. they willingly isolated themselves from the world to ensure this never happened again. they had the power to control the master emerald and chose a sacrifice to benefit the rest of the world instead of being conquerors like they were under pachacamac.
did you know that the in-universe researchers speculate that the second group stayed on the surface to pass down the knowledge of the disaster to future generations.
meaning it may very well be possible that there are some echidnas still alive out there. and if not then there's definitely room to explore what the heck happened to make both groups eventually disappear. were their numbers just too low to be sustainable? did some other disaster befall them? ghhh how often i think about this.....
#knuckles clan#sonic adventure#god im so sad that this is such obscure lore at this point#i cannot even find scans of the sonic adventure perfect guide online im working off of ONE page i found in windii's twitter#I CANT EVEN READ JAPANESE IM RELYING ON RAMMING IT THROUGH MULTIPLE MACHINE TRANSLATORS. THATS ALL I HAVE#how i treasure this one page LOL#but yeah the part about the knuckles clan being the ones to raise angel island is also in the navigation guide#so it's stated in two sources. the navigation guide being written more objectively i think?#while the perfect guide could be interpreted as in-universe speculation#please ..... i wanna explore it so bad#they HAD THE MASTER EMERALD IN THEIR GRASP. all of its power. they could control it. they could have TAKEN it#but they chose not to. they chose to dedicate their lives and their entire lineage to protecting it instead#THATS SO INTERESTING#AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

wahh im so shy to tell u this very silly thing 。°(°.◜ᯅ◝°)°。cuz mori's blue dragon tattoos literally translated to dragonfruit in my mothertongue and when his chap 2 cg popped up instead of jerking off i was bursting my ass off laughing
This is a fantastic opportunity for me to infodump on Mori's tattoos >:3c
Mori's arms are done with traditional irezumi motifs, taking from the (initially) Chinese and (later) Japanese mythos surrounding the Four Gods (or Four Cardinal Gods, Four Symbols, Four Auspicious Beasts, etc. The Azure Dragon, the Vermillion Bird, the White Tiger, and the Black Tortoise are very famous in mythological imagery throughout a lot of Asia and these figures are some of the most prominent emblems of auspicious blessings and bad omens, depending on how they're invoked. Each of these figures represents a direction, a quadrant of the sky, comes from a specific constellation, and is associated with a force of nature, season, and element.
The dragon on Mori's right arm is the Azure Dragon, called Qīnglóng in China and Seiryu in Japan. Seiryu is heavily associated with storms and the ocean. The White Tiger- in this case, we took artistic liberty to depict him with leopard markings to show the symbolic relationship with Mori himself- is Byakko or Báihǔ, in Chinese. In their symbolic ties, Seiryu is the god of the East and Byakko is the god of the West, and while they're both associated with storms, Seiryu is much more strongly linked to the water element while Byakko represents the wind aspect of such events. Because both figures represent guardianship and strong bonds, the tattoo as a whole is an auspicious symbol that recognizes Mori's protective and caring nature but also the hope that he will form strong bonds and be protected when HE needs it.
Seiryu is depicted traveling up Mori's arm, returning to the sky from the sea and the filler is clouds/lightning to highlight the association with water while Byakko climbs up Mori's left arm to show vigilance during the hunt and because of Byakko's association with autumn, the filler is maple leaves.
So in all, the tattoo represents a cohesive story that hopes for strong relationships and protection from enemies. It shows Mori's strength of character in his willingness to protect and openly care about his friends while also warning (and attempting to ward off) his weaknesses- being too wary and being closed off.
BUT all that being said, you'd be able to tease him a little for Dragonfruit without offending but be prepared for him to tease you back about inviting bad luck and rain when you want it least. >:3
#I feel like its worth adding i'm 100% not a Chinese/Japanese lit or religions scholar and there's a lot of interpretation here#i am however an irezumi enthusiast and am relatively knowledgeable in how a lot of mythic imagery is interpreted in the tattoo world#like a well informed amateur at least#but i always recommend going right to asian tattooers themselves if you wanna learn more#the depth of symbolism in every aspect is so fascinating#anyway i put way too much thought into Mori's arms#but he's a good sport and would let you tease him as long as you can take it when he gives it back lol#thank you for asking!!#mori

Dear Anonymous,
You're thinking most of the United States here. Unfortunately, California is too closely tied to Japanese laws here.
