This is a beautiful series. I smiled, laughed and cried. This is the story of a mother who loves her children and will fight to the teeth to protect them. As a mother myself, I could understand her feelings and her actions. Queen Im Hwa Ryeong is an intelligent woman, street smart, and she has learned to play the politics game to protect her five sons. He eldest, the Crown Prince and his own wife, little boy and his youngest on the way are her pride and joy. He is the model child everyone would want to have. She worries about his health.

When the king decides to look for a substitute for the Crown Prince's assistant, the Queen will have to prepare her other four carefree sons so they can show they are just as worthy as their other half-brothers. But as she tries to do so without alarming them, she runs around inside and outside the palace looking for them.

Her second son, Grand Prince Seong Nam, was taken away from her when he was born. She was able to bring him home after years of living outside like a commoner. He feels like an outsider inside the palace and likes to train outside, but he loves his brothers, and cherishes his relationship with his older brother.

Grand Prince Muan is a young man in love with a woman of low birth. His mother is constantly getting him out of her home and bring him back to the palace.

Grand Prince Kye Seong is a quiet young man who brings peace to his mother but carries a secret that could kill him.

Grand Prince Il Young is in his early teens and too young to care about politics.

As the political intrigues unravel, we see her relationship with her sons strengthen. This a woman who will protect, not only her children, but the king's other sons. . . She is strong and flexible, accepting and a problem solver.

I liked her relationship with her sons. How she interacts with each and gives them the support they need while also giving them wings. I also like her relationship with the King. Out of all his wives, the audience can see a special bond between them. He values her opinion and respects her. She respects him, although there are things she will always keep away from him in order to protect her sons. She is indeed her son's secret keeper and their support.

I really love what the title symbolizes. The umbrella she puts over her boys' heads when it rains and what it all means.

I don’t think there’s ever been a bigger tonal discrepancy between what a movie poster looks like and what the actually movie looks like.

And these other ones are even worse!...

This one (French DVD release) is probably the ‘best’ though I feel like it’s not a good design and is still off…

This is a damn good movie though. The color-grading and some of the editing choices reminded me that it was in 2003 in South Korea too, but I am gonna make a point moving forward not to keep harping on about my hatred of the mid-00s film aesthetic. I'm a broken record.

Writer-director Jang Joon-hwan has a fascinating though limited feature-length filmography. He's only made three pictures in the last 20 years and they all seem vastly different (although he's allegedly been tapped to helm the English-language remake of this, his debut). But he clearly has a sense of style...

As previously mentioned, this is way more gritty and gruesome than one would ever expect given the initial goofy hats and movie poster and title. The unveiling of this dark world is done with patience and I loved how more and more of the torture chamber is slowly revealed and the movie just keeps getting darker and darker, making you wonder why this green planet deserves to me saved at all. And while, sure, that point is made explicit by the film's ultra-convoluted batshit, 2001-aping, expo dump of an ending, it didn't dilute the experience for me. It's all too weird and unique to pick nits. It's an impactful and memorable movie. One that legitimately earns its cult status. A big win for TRUE RANDOM!

Behind Your Touch Episode 16: Han Ji Min & Lee Min Ki Solve the Mystery and Find Love

Behind Your Touch Episode 16 was the finale of the popular JTBC drama that starred Han Ji Min, Lee Min Ki, and Suho. The series combined comedy, thriller, and fantasy elements to tell the story of a psychic veterinarian and a hot-blooded detective who teamed up to solve crimes in a small town. The last episode wrapped up the main plot and gave a satisfying ending to the characters and their relationships.

The Culprit and His Motive

The culprit was none other than Park Jong Bae (Park Hyuk Kwon), the shaman who had been helping the police with his fake psychic abilities. He was actually a psychopath who enjoyed killing people and animals for fun. He had been using Bong Ye Bun’s (Han Ji Min) power to read the memories of his victims and manipulate them. He also had a personal motive for his crimes. He blamed Moon Jang Yeol (Lee Min Ki) for the death of his son, who was killed by a car accident while Jang Yeol was chasing a suspect. He wanted to make Jang Yeol suffer by killing his friends and colleagues, such as Cha Ju Man (Lee Seung Joon), Jung Eui Hwan (Yang Jae Seong), and Kim Seon Woo (Suho). He also kidnapped Bae Ok Hee (Joo Min Kyung), Ye Bun’s best friend, and tried to kill her.

The Final Showdown

Jong Bae admitted that he was the killer and that he enjoyed playing with their lives. He also revealed that he had killed Seon Woo, who was Ye Bun’s crush and Jang Yeol’s suspect. Jong Bae then tried to escape by stabbing random people on the street, but Ye Bun used her power to locate him. She bravely faced him and held him at knifepoint, demanding him to surrender. Jang Yeol arrived soon after and shot Jong Bae in the leg, arresting him for good.

The Happy Ending

They had a cute and sweet relationship, despite their different personalities and lifestyles. They also continued to work together on minor cases, using Ye Bun’s power and Jang Yeol’s skills. They became a famous duo in Mujin, earning the respect and admiration of the people. The other characters also had their happy endings in Behind Your Touch Episode 16. Ok Hee recovered from her trauma and became more confident and cheerful. She also opened her own hair salon with the help of her friends. Won Jong Mook (Kim Hee Won) and Jung Hyeon Ok (Park Sung Yeon) got married and rekindled their love. Na Mi Ran (Jung Yi Rang) divorced her cheating husband and found a new love interest. Bae Deok Hee (Jo Min Guk) became a successful detective and moved to Seoul. This is a very good series, I binge watched it in a few days. I loved the queen! How strong, resourceful, and independent she was. I loved all the characters, especially the queen and prince Seongnam. I also loved how the king was very supportive of her. The series had a lot of different topics, from motherhood to sexuality. It's a drama series. There are no gore or sex scenes. I recommend this series to anyone who likes history dramas.

having now finished Bloodhounds, would definitely recommend! my personal score would be 7/10 but others may rate it higher depending on what you’re looking for in a show. there were some plot and pacing issues that made me knock it down a few points. but the characters were great, the acting was good, the fight choreography was amazing. overall my issues were that it was less of a “criminal masterminds” show and more of a “let’s solve problems with violence” show. which isn’t necessarily a bad thing! just that my preference is for the former.

I was really, really surprised that Hyeon-Ju didn’t come back for the finale. They built up the whole thing with Kim Myeong-Gil being the person responsible for her father’s death but just ... dropped it. Which isn’t necessarily unrealistic and I’m glad Hyeon-Ju is living her best life, but it also just seemed very weird in a show that had basically been about her and the two boxers up until that point. Made weirder because they sort of ... replaced her? With Mr. Oh’s granddaughter? Like, why? Just weird.

Will nitpick further in that it really seemed like our dear murder dads were way too smart to take Jang-Do back to Du-Yeong’s own shop to torture him and then leave identifying evidence there ... like I understand the plot dictated that KMG would find them and kill the old guard so Woo-Jin and Gun-Woo would be left alone to fix things themselves, but I feel like there were better ways for KMG to find them than LDY just like ... leaving all his identifying papers at the place where they tortured a guy. Or bringing that guy there to begin with.

But my biggest complaint is that KMG didn’t die. Like. I get it. Woo-Jin and Gun-Woo weren’t murderers. They didn’t want to become murderers. But KMG just being arrested left the story feeling unfinished to me. Over the course of the show he had *multiple* people working for him who were familiar with the police. I’m supposed to believe he’d going to just quietly go to jail and not try to get revenge? If the writers didn’t want to have Gun-Woo or Woo-Jin kill him directly, an indirect death would have been fine. He could have fallen off the boat or something. IDK, I was just really taken aback that it’s like ‘oh Interpol’s gonna arrest him and everything’s cool now’. Like um. I sure hope that works out for you.

(also very very nitpicky and just an indication of what I like to see in a show but after all the build-up of ‘KMG doesn’t trust anyone but KIB is like a brother to him’, I was *really* disappointed that they didn’t do something where KMG betrays KIB because he never really cared about him at all and KIB goes apeshit over it’. that would have been a great way to kill KMG without one of our two leads having to do it! okay I’m done now, that’s all.)

overall it was a good show, just maybe not as tightly written as shows like Beyond Evil and The Devil Judge have made me appreciate ... but again, it’s a different kind of show and if we were going to judge this one based solely on the fight scenes it would get 15/10 so it’s all in what you’re looking for
