This scene...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Noa mourning his dad was so heartbreaking to see. I was expecting him to cry like a human would. But him kneeling and curling up like a ball, The way his eyes shift thinking and taking it all in and silently shedding tears was so impactful. The silence was loud! 💯
Turns out Owen did some research on how Chimpanzees understand the concept of death and how they mourn.
and it made the scene more heartbreaking! I love that they're giving alot of thought into bringing Noa to life. Its just perfect. 👌

Vandermatthews Headcanons - updated!
-They have a nightly bedtime reading; they'll discuss what's going on in each chapter and will read paragraphs to each other; sometimes this on well into late night
-Neither of them can tolerate cold well, particularly Hosea, and a fire on every night; Dutch will spoon him to further keep him warm (I've made mentions of them not tolerating the cold as well as they did when they were younger but didn't touch too much onto them)
-Dutch is very ticklish! Particularly his ribs/belly/waist, and Hosea will tickle him in public (or 'threaten' to) when he flirts in public or is moody or general PiTA. He does his stoic face but eventually, he'll crumble. Unfortunately for him, Hosea isn't so much to keep him further (I realize I'm sharing trade secrets here, no regrets, do what you want with them, mwah <3)
-Since their bed was made only for one person, they are 'forced' to lay on top of each other (and can also be found laying by the bonfire), usually, Hosea lays on Dutch but doesn't always go that way.
-Wolves wait to pounce the moment Dutch steps out because of their attraction to his hair pomade, and the 30 pieces of beef, 10 fish, 20 squirrels stuffed in his pockets because he doesn't have a satchel.
-Reverend Swanson got them married <3
-Hosea loves his back being rubbed, sides massaged, waist being held in those hold-you-close hugs and shoulders rubbed (this whole area will get him to melt like butter) and has a spot between his ear and jawline that when touched, gets him to his happy spot, but he's a happy chappy wherever Dutch touches him (but I need to touch upon this more!)
-Dutch loves chest rubs, belly rubs, and there's a spot on his right hip that makes him squirm; he also loves to have his jaw/chin scratched and especially that cleft of his chin that he used to feel self-conscious about; scritching him here will elicit big manly little purry sounds from him * (though I have yet to get into the chin/jaw scritches in my story; it's in my head waiting to get out); he also likes to have his mustache/soul patch touched
-They love a bit of roleplay; they'll create scenarios where they'll be acting out their first (I've made a post where Hosea is a bartender and Dutch is seeking a job as a musician there)
-They take turns in deciding on a quiet place to read. Heartlands Overflow was their latest spot. They'll also do a spot of readin' at the camp, too).
-Hosea can't stomach warm beer, Dutch will drink it cold or warm
-Dutch is the RDO equivalent of Jane Goodall; he'll happily socialize with other people's characters, and will also observe their goings-on (in a quiet spot if a quiet spot exists L) among them and reports on what he sees back at camp to get a better understanding of this strange world
-Dutch's favourite feature on Hosea is his eyes, hands and fingers and he tries to make eye contact with him as much as possible; he loves to hold and kiss his hands, and of course, be touched with them as much as possible; he also cannot leave his chest alone (so that's another favourite) and has a thing about hearing his heartbeat at night on those nights he lays on top of him, so maybe it's his heart that is his #1 <3 (but imo whole man is his favourite part)
-Among Hosea's favourite features on Dutch? His nose; he loves grabbing it, and kissing it, as well as his silly waist and the slight belly he's gotten from being looked after so well by him, and of cannot resist those locks that he can't resist touching.
-Dutch's favourite role is the Bounty Role because of the PEW PEW that's often involved but tied with Moonshine; he loves dancing like a fool and playing with the band, and the excitement of running 'shine like a proper degenerate; also loves the excitement of what the Trader Role can bring on hose trading run and now gets along with Cripps (they were ornery and antagonistic at the start until they learned they'll have mutual benefits from working with each other)
-Hosea's favourite role is the Collector role; it's generally the least problematic role between them both (and prob the most old-man-friendly activity) and they have an extensive selection of things they picked up (Hosea has issues with giving up the items they've collected); they also turn Collecting into a date and will often dress up more for this role than the others
-Hosea's favourite horse is his Turkoman stallion, Silver Dollar, but he has a bit of a fondness for Morgans, Standardbreds (particularly buckskin) and Belgian Drafts and will steal one if given the opportunity
-Dutch's favourites? His little princess pony Arabian, The Count. He makes me feel like he's bigger than he is. Others include Legend the dun Mustang mare, Sienna the black Kladruber mare who makes him feel fancy.
-Whenever Hosea is really angry at Dutch (which doesn't happen too often and when he does he doesn't stay mad at him for long); he gives him a wide berth (might be canon?), he's which is so difficult because he's clingy and needy but will not cross that invisible barrier (I want to write a chapter on this but trying to think of something that would create this scenario; there will be of course a cavity-inducing reunion)
-Dutch loves kissing Hosea in public; doesn't matter if it's in Smith's Saloon or wherever he'll just give that old man a big ol smooch on the lips (Hosea secretly loves it though he'll at times act embarrassed but doesn't exactly push away from it)
-Dutch is big into using the star/sun/moon as directional compasses; but doesn't always follow a waypoint; it seems to be in his coding but in my head he's just pigheaded about them and views them as a mere suggestion, which has gotten him, Hosea and his boys into trouble *
-Hosea is sometimes exasperated by his husband's neediness and clinginess and needs to reassure him when he does need to get some breathing space; he respects this and will go off on little misadventures with their sons or on his own, often winding up in some sort of trouble, often Valentine with his study subjects and buddies (I often don't bring Hosea around big groups of people esp in Valentine because of the potential of an incident but I have a feeling he's fine with that because Valentine is often just too chaotic for him), but always comes back and gives that idiot a big ol cuddle when he comes back
-Hosea CANNOT resist his husband's little gestures of appeasement; a hand squeeze, a kiss of his hand, tugging at his curls, and . . . Puppy eyes, which he weaponizes
-Hosea loves it when Dutch grabs his ass but always 'shoos' him and acts annoyed
-Dutch can't get enough ass grabbage and will pout if he doesn't get another squeeze
-Nose boops are a daily occurrence, including nose-to-boops which sometimes occasionally result in a bloody nose but are a bit safer than forehead boops which have more than occasion left Hosea seeing stars
-They really do do it on Fridays, for the most part (I keep them too busy to have too much intimate time, my bad)
-'Sea doesn't go on every bounty hunt (he takes this time to Collector inventory, general inventory, get some personal space (difficult to obtain at times LOL) and other odds and ends) but does go on every Collector, Trading and Moonshine run
-The boys don't visit Harriet often because someone keeps getting sprayed by her
-Both will gift each other with random, sometimes useless things; like I don't think Hosea really needs a donkey but Dutch will get him one anyway for a laugh and Hose would so say he doesn't need two asses (;D) (meaningful gifts are given aplenty too)
-Dutch doesn't like to be violent against other people's kids because he is careful; he'll tip his hat to the ladies and blow kisses to the guys (fuelling jealousy in Hoseea)
-One of those useless things? 'Sea has ordered an expensive mirror from France (that isn't too practical out on the range but there you go) because he gets a kick out of watching his hubby check himself out and then acting like he wasn't checking himself out in the mirror)
-Hosea has a dry sense of humour
-Dutch will laugh at his own jokes
-They both will feed each other bits of food on a fork <3
-Dutch is the little spoon; he feels safer ith Hosea curled up around him
-Nicknames? Hosea nicknames Dutch his Beautiful Idiot, Babygirl, the Mustached Idiot (and just idiot), Babygirl, Duchess; Dutch calls Hosea 'Sea in addition to Old Girl (he also calls him Silver Fox but have yet to include that in my fics; I'm thinking of more nicknames for him too!)
-Dutch despises ran but Hosea will take this time to wait it out with him and play with his hair
-Both are rather useless at the cowboy thing; one gets dragged through the mud, the other will go on a slaughter spree for being bumped.
-They are both deeply affectionate towards each other; kisses, hugs, cuddles, and touches aplenty are given to each other (they touch each other a lot in my stories; can't keep their hands off of each other)
-Dutch carries his tiny Hosea plush with him in his saddlebag whenever Dutch is off somewhere without Hosea (Hosea deserves a break now and then).
-On random Sundays, they make pancakes for breakfast in bed (whoever gets up first is the pancake maker). Always heart-shaped, though Dutch's attempts are endearingly sloppy.
-Hosea gave Dutch his gramophone for his birthday. He regrets his decision.
-Hosea hums while reading the newspaper
-Dutch will twirl his hair and kick his feet while reading.
-Dutch's most ticklish spot? His belly button!
-Hosea has a little heart-shaped birthmark on his right butt cheek.
-Dutch tugs at his hair when he's nervous (does it count as a headcanon if it's actually canon?)
--They are occasionally polyamorous; Josiah Trelawny is among those who they let into their tight circle.

Good news for animals in captivity in Canada!
Tumblr media
The Jane Goodall act was introduced to the Canadian senate originally in 2020 and again in 2022. It represents some of the strongest legislation for animal protection in the world for species and contains new legal protections for captive big cats, bears, wolves, seals, sea lions, walruses, certain primates, and dangerous reptiles, such as crocodiles and giant pythons. If it passes, the bill will:
Phase out elephant captivity in Canada. Elephants are complex and intelligent animals that require large social groups and often do poorly in captivity, so this would mean an effective end to the practice nation wide.
Ban new captivity at roadside zoos for big cats, bears, wolves, seals, sea lions, walruses, certain primates, and dangerous reptiles. No more private owners profiting off of wild animals kept in unethical conditions!
Require permits for individuals and organizations to acquire or breed big cats and other species.
Create a new designation for Jane Goodall Act ‘animal care organizations,’ including zoos, aquariums and sanctuaries. An effective form of accreditation to make it easier to support appropriate care for captive animals.
It would also support action against wildlife trafficking and improving the conditions of animals currently in captivity. Read more about the act here.
As of June 8, 2023 the bill has passed its first vote in the Senate.

Clint Eastwood and Manis the orangutan in the role of Clyde on the set of the 1978 film Every Which Way But Loose.
Wisdom tells the value of intangible, heartfelt experiences over material possessions.
👍 Wisdom by Clint Eastwood
Don’t look for luxury in watches or bracelets, don’t look for it in mansions or sailboats,
luxury is laughter and friends, luxury is not being sick, luxury is the rain on your face,
luxury is hugs and kisses.
Don’t look for luxury in shops, don’t look for it in gifts, don’t look for it at parties, don’t look for it at events.
Luxury is being loved by people, luxury is being respected, luxury is having parents alive, luxury is being able to play with your grandchildren, luxury is what money can’t buy.
PS. I love his superb acting skills and the movies he has acted in. 🫶 Lan~*

The Craving
Statement of Adi Reed regarding feelings of hunger after a research encounter. Written statement taken from subject on August 13th, 2013.
Statement Begins.
I’ve always been interested in the weirder topics, you know? It felt almost natural, given my condition. Polydactyly, it’s called. Extra digits. Doc told Mom I was lucky to not only get an extra finger on each hand but a fully functional one at that. Means they wouldn’t have had to cut into her newborn kid. So my obvious difference from most people stuck me out like a sore thumb or two, especially now with me, the American, here in the Queen’s country.
I came here to do research after my bachelor’s in America. I was …. no, I am a biologist. I studied all sorts of things back home, but my calling was into the more macabre (if you believed what my mom would say). Evolutionary biology and specifically the evolution of human thought and behaviors towards topics we deem ‘taboo’. Not working on justifying sexual acts we deem bad, Jane Goodall alone could knock those creeps out, but ideas common in the natural world that we as humans have “risen above” as a species. It’s a bunch of lies. Humans are just as depraved as the rest of the animal kingdom, and pretending we’re some elitist species because we wag our fingers at things doesn’t make them not happen.
Research here at the institute allowed me to study specific topics without the disapproving stares of other universities. My latest research was into the mental justification for cannibalism, mostly the idea of transubstantiation. It’s the religious belief that eating the body of their god is seen as holy and a closer connection to them. The number of mental hoops you have to jump through to okay that but not grasp how close the concept is to regular cannibalism is very high.
Throughout my research, I had read several transcripts from the late 1800s referencing a religious text that, if rumors were to be believed, this idea and the justification came from. I reached out to some contacts I had made through other research projects to try and find any idea of where this supposedly religious text would have been kept. This country does pride itself on keeping a lot of very old traditions so a text referring to one of the primary bases of catholicism should still be around, probably buried under some great Queen’s left tit or in a glass case in a museum. None of my English contacts had ever heard of such a text, which was not a promising start, until I got a message from a Dr. Haan Tao. Through some acquaintance or another, he had heard about what I was looking for and had a copy in his private collection, brought from Istanbul. If England can’t keep it locked away, some grubby rich collector will get it. So I played nice. I chatted over the phone several times to gain access to the text, buttering him up so even if it was a fake, I’d still have some potential new benefactor if Bouchard ever goes belly up.
One day, I was checking my work mailbox and saw that I had a package. It had postage from Istanbul, and I had told the mail staff I was expecting something from there in the future. I just didn’t know it’d be that soon.
Whatever private collector owned it before Dr. Haan had the text rebound with its little library mark inside. Whoever finds a twat named Jurgen Leitner and beats him to death will have my thanks for smearing his name into a text like that. Anyways, the now much smaller than expected but highly anticipated book was in my possession. Plastered across the surprisingly barren cover listed the title Thee Consecrated Chafian. It’s an odd name for a book considering how much the religion using it as a reference insists it’s not cannibalism.
The text inside was in very good condition. Usually, texts this old have very faded ink on bone-thin paper, but this was as clear as the day it was written. The old English wasn’t too hard to translate, thankfully, so my reading of the text was fairly quick. It told of a story about how a village became one with their god by incorporating him into their bodies by eating gifts the creator provided. The story goes on to tell of the gifts being pieces of another, usually a villager ‘picked’ by the creator for the rest of the village to consume in their entirety. By the end of the text, only one villager remains, chewing on his wife’s knuckle bones as their god welcomes him. It's a bit of a departure from the story most of us know now of the bread and wine of communion.
But the reason I’m coming to make a statement to you down here is what came after I finished the book. The following week was normal, except for my usual call with Dr. Haan not connecting. I suspected nothing of it, he was probably a busy man with whatever weird eccentrics he wanted. The next week, the hunger started. I figured at first it was probably nothing. Just grabbed an extra bit of lunch here and there during the week. I craved more over the weekend. If I hadn’t had the thought to portion out my bulk buying when I bought groceries last, I would have cleaned out my freezer of all the meat I had. That calmed the noise in my stomach for a while. The next was the same, craving more and more meat over the regular snacks I had around either in my bag or office. There was one day I ate a whole steak raw. I couldn’t stop the cravings long enough to cook it.
It’s the taste that keeps the cravings from consuming me. Whatever iron-rich meat I can get my hands on keeps me saner today than the next day. There are times I catch myself questioning why I restrict myself to the cold meat in the fridge when there is fresher meat right outside my door. The cravings are almost constant now. I don’t think I was ever someone who would have thought to side with cannibals, but if these cravings get worse, the appeal of fresh meat may win me over. I keep hard sausage or jerky around at all times just to keep the taste in my mouth. I was never able to get back in touch with Dr. Haan, so Thee Consecrated Chafian stays with me now. There is an itch in my bones, as if they wish to crawl out of my body at the joints to rejoin whatever creator gave me this hunger to satiate its stomach. I think I understand how the last villager felt, chasing the taste of a god through whatever meat is available. I also understand now that it’s likely not that the villager would have wanted to stop but couldn’t. I fear I have fallen for the same god the villager did so long ago.
Statement Ends.

Author's note: Thanks for reading! Haven't written in a while, so finally getting back into the groove. I *should* have more out about Adi and how they're still hanging around the Institute.

An even broader investigation by James J. Lynch of actuarial and statistical data on victims of cardiovascular disease indicated that an astonishing percentage of the million or so Americans killed by heart problems each year have an underlying difficulty that seems to trigger their sickness: “lack of warmth and meaningful relationships with others.” On the other hand, research in Europe suggested that kissing on a regular basis provides additional oxygen and stimulates the output of antibodies. Closeness to others can heal. Separation can kill.
The cutting of the ties that bind can be fatal even in the wild. Jane Goodall, who has studied chimpanzees in the Gombe Stream preserve of Africa since 1960, saw the principle at work in a young animal named Flint. When Flint was born, his mother adored him. And he, in turn, doted on her. She hugged him, played with him, and tickled him until his tiny, wrinkled face broke out in the broad equivalent of a chimpanzee smile. The two were inseparable.
When Flint reached the age of three, the time came for his mother to wean him. However, since Flo, the mother, was old and weak and Flint was young and strong, this proved difficult. Flo turned her back and tried to keep her son away from the nipple, but Flint flew into wild tantrums, lashed about violently on the ground, and ran off screaming. Finally, a worried Flo was forced to calm her son by offering him her breast. Later, Flint developed even more aggressive techniques for ensuring his supply of mother’s milk. If Flo tried to shrug him off, Flint struck her with his fists and punctuated the pummeling with sharp bites.
At an age when other chimps have freed themselves from parental apron strings, Flint was still acting like a baby. Though he was a strapping young lad and his mother was increasingly feeble, Flint insisted that she carry him everywhere. If Flo stopped to rest and Flint was anxious to taste the fruit of the trees at their next destination, the hulking child would push, prod, and whimper to get her moving again. Then he’d climb on her back and enjoy the ride.
When shoves and whines didn’t motivate his mother to pick him up and cart him where he wanted to go, Flint would occasionally give the exhausted lady a strong kick. Although Flint was old enough to build a sleeping nest of his own, at night he insisted on climbing into bed with his mother. In the course of normal development, Flint should have turned his attention from Flo to the other chimps his age, forging ties to the superorganism—the chimpanzee tribe—of which he was a part. But he did not, and the consequence would be devastating.
Flint’s mother died. Theoretically, Flint’s instincts should have urged him to survive. But three weeks later, he went back to the spot where his mother had breathed her last and curled up in a fetal ball. Within a few days, he, too, was dead.
An autopsy revealed that there was nothing physically wrong with Flint: no infection, no disease, no handicap. In all probability, the youngster’s death had been caused by the simian equivalent of the voice that tells humans experiencing a similar loss that there’s nothing left to live for. Flint had been cut loose from his single bond to the superorganism, and that separation had killed him.
Social attachment is just as vital to human beings as it is to simians. Research psychiatrist Dr. George Engel collected 275 newspaper accounts of sudden death. He discovered that 156 had been caused by severe damage to social ties. One hundred and thirty-five deaths had been triggered by “a traumatic event in a close human relationship.” Another twenty-one had been brought on by “loss of status, humiliation, failure or defeat.” In one instance, the president of a college had been forced to retire by the board of trustees at the age of fifty-nine. As he delivered his final speech, he collapsed from a heart attack. One of his closest friends, a doctor, rushed to the stage to save him. But the strain of losing his companion was too much for the physician, and he, too, fell to the floor of the platform, dying of heart failure.

Kinich feels like such a contradictory character between his written character stories versus his in-game presentation that it's actually upsetting me ngl.
Oh, we're told he's a super strong warrior, but he gets injured offscreen during the team battle, loses offscreen during the match-ups, and is sent away on an errand when we go to the Night Kingdom. Super capable warrior, where??
He's positioned as Mualani and Kachina's friend in the archon quest, but argues against saving her from the Night Kingdom. Chasca of all people is shown to volunteer her assistance more, out of responsibility. However we're also told he's [spoilers] super fucking devoted to honoring friendship in his tribal quest and the traveler can call for his help anytime?? Poor Kachina didn't make the cut I guess.
Scanning the leaks, his past trauma and abuse at the hands of his father, the bullying from the Scion children, and any PTSD from dying in the Night Warden Wars will have 0 mention onscreen, for a very good while at least.
Then he's a Saurian Hunter willing to do anything for the correct "price" re: his character stories. He'll even ask compensation from the elderly and children! His services are avaliable for wetwork too. But jk not really, his trailer shows he has rather strict morals and doesn't kill just any Saurian with a pricetag. Apparently there's a difference between hunters and poachers, even when both are in it for the money. What, does he kill Saurians in an archon-honoring way? He won't [spoilers] take Trinidad's perspective to put down the Mountain King, despite the harm to local settlements and the own Suarian's suffering from abyssal corruption. For god's sake, he's hatching baby Suarian eggs in the web event. Stop being disingenuous and just make him Jane Goodall at this point.
(The jpn fanbase is calling him "mama" due to him waking the girls up on time for tournament and cooking their stew in that hoyoverse extra, which is turning out to be more accurate as time goes on lol)
I don't think there's anything wrong with a slightly-tweaked Thoma, in fact I think the roster needs it. I love male wife material! But trying to lump it together with the typical "stoic, rational man that outwardly appears cold-hearted" appeal, a dime a fucking dozen in hyv games, AND "assassin for hire" (because the Suarians are sentient okay, they talk in their own language and participate in society) just isn't working cohesively. In a better-written story, maybe an author could spend time fleshing out his personality, but Genshin quests concering playable characters just aren't that long or deep. And his voice count is abysmally low in the next archon quest too, and he's not there for half of his tribal act III quest. Meanwhile Mualani was stapled to our side in hers /salty
It kinda feels feel like they're prepping for less men in Natlan, so they shoved every trope they can into him to make it count. That meme of female characters on a conveyor belt to the finish line vs male characters doing hard gymnastics and jetpacking to get to the same place? Yeah, that's him. That they made Naruto's VA into a talking pet rather than another character that would sell like hotcakes to the fujos speaks volumes.
It's just... frustrating, because they picked a bunch of stuff to make him interesting but it feels haphazard in quality. Like, "here's your token boy specifically designed in a lab to appeal to teenage girls, now leave us alone to make waifu #36843."

@miniaturechildkitten Here are some documentaries I would recommend now. They're not all about celebrities, I went into another direction, but I'll explain some of my choices.
Tumblr media
This is one is the first part of a well known series. It's first installment was Seven Up and comprised of interviews with several children at the age of 7. Then, seven years later, they released another. And another one, seven other years later until those same children were adults in their 60s. It is absolutely fascinating to watch their evolution, especially since it's almost impossible not to form an attachment to them since we can see them initially as children. I found myself crying more than once because a lot of them will go through difficulties.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Grey Gardens is another famous title that explores isolation and a codependent mother-daughter relationship. I Am Not Your Negro is about James Baldwin and explores race relations in America. Jane was the documentary that introduced me to Jane Goodall and particularly the first stage of her work with chimpanzees when she was young. McQueen is of course about Alexander McQueen. It traces his artistic career while also mapping the fashion industry in the 90s-2000s.
Tumblr media
Don't Look Back is interesting to watch not only as a music documentary, but also as one of the first examples of cinema verite in the North American sphere in the 60s. The director acts like a fly on the wall during some Dylan tours in Europe, showing us concert footage, but also Dylan and his entourage hanging around in hotel rooms and making me feel so bad watching Joan Baez pining after him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lastly, I have to add a bit of spice. I'm really into true crime documentaries, especially if it's about a serial killer. I haven't watched anything recently, but these two stuck in my mind and are fascinating if you're interested (or might become) in New York in the 70s.

My very work in progress Vandermatthews Headcanon
Excerpts with asterisk taken from The Misadventures of Hosea and The Mustached Idiot; the rest have yet not been added to my fic
They have a nightly bedtime reading; they'll discuss what's going on in each chapter and will read paragraphs to each other; sometimes this on well into late night*
Neither of them can tolerate cold well, particularly Hosea, and a fire on every night; Dutch will spoon him to further keep him warm (I've made mentions of them not tolerating the cold as well as they did when they were younger but didn't touch too much onto them)
Dutch is very ticklish! Particularly his ribs/belly/waist, and Hosea will tickle him in public (or 'threaten' to) when he flirts in public or is being moody or being a general PiTA. He does his stoic face but eventually, he'll crumble. Unfortunately for him, Hosea isn't so much (I realize I'm sharing trade secrets here, no regrets, do what you want with them, mwah <3) * Since their bed was made only for one person, they are 'forced' to lay on top of each other (and can also be found lying by the bonfire), usually, Hosea lays on Dutch but doesn't always go that way*
Wolves wait to pounce the moment Dutch steps out of camp because of their attraction to his hair pomade, and the 30 pieces of beef, 10 fish, 20 squirrels stuffed in his pockets because he doesn't have a satchel.*
Reverend Swanson got them married
Hosea loves his back being rubbed, sides massaged, waist being held in those hold-you-close hugs and shoulders rubbed (this whole area will get him to melt like butter) and has a spot between his ear and jawline that when touched, gets him to his happy spot, but he's a happy chappy wherever Dutch touches him * (but I need to touch upon this more, pardon the pun!)
Dutch loves chest rubs, belly rubs, and there's a spot on his right hip that makes him squirm; he also loves to have his jaw/chin scratched and especially that cleft of his chin that he used to feel self-conscious about; scritching him here will elicit big manly little purry sounds from him * (though I have yet to get into the chin/jaw scritches in my story; it's in my head waiting to get out); he also likes to have his mustache/soul patch touched
They love a bit of roleplay; they'll create scenarios where they'll be acting out their first (a senario they've had involved Hosea being a bartender and Dutch is seeking a job as a musician there)
They take turns in deciding on a quiet place to read. Heartlands Overflow was their latest spot. They'll also do a spot of readin' at the camp, too).
Hosea can't stomach warm beer, Dutch will drink it cold or warm *
Dutch is the RDO equivalent of Jane Goodall; he'll happily socialize with other people's characters, and will also observe their goings-on (in a quiet spot if a quiet spot exists L) among them and reports on what he sees back at camp to get a better understanding of this strange world *
Dutch's favourite feature on Hosea is his eyes, hands and fingers and he tries to make eye contact with him as much as possible; he loves to hold and kiss his hands, and of course, be touched with them as much as possible; he also cannot leave his chest alone (so that's another favourite) and has a thing about hearing his heartbeat at night on those nights he lays on top of him, so maybe it's his heart that is his #1 <3 (but imo the whole man is his favourite part) * (but needs to be stated more!)
Among Hosea's favourite features on Dutch? His nose; he loves grabbing it, and kissing it, as well as his silly waist and the slight belly he's gotten from being looked after so well by him, and of cannot resist those locks that he can't resist touching in each chapter * (always needs to be stated more)
Dutch's favourite role is the Bounty Role because of the PEW PEW that's often involved but tied with Moonshine; he loves dancing like a fool and playing with the band, and the excitement of running 'shine like a proper degenerate; also loves the excitement of what the Trader Role can bring on hose trading run and now gets along with Cripps (they were ornery and antagonistic at the start until they learned they'll have mutual benefits from working with each other * (sort of touched on but needs to be touched on more);
Hosea's favourite role is the Collector role; it's generally the least problematic role between them both (and prob the most old-man-friendly activity) and they have an extensive selection of things they picked up (Hosea has issues with giving up the items they've collected); they also turn Collecting into a date and often will dress up more for this role than the others * (I need to write a chapter though of that dating!)
Hosea's favourite horse is his Turkoman stallion, Silver Dollar, but he has a bit of a fondness for Morgans, Standardbreds (particularly buckskin) and Belgian Drafts and will steal one if given the opportunity
Dutch's favourite is either Legend the dun Mustang mare, or Sienna the black Kladruber mare, or (sorry The Count but you're so little :D) or Winner Bells the black Standardbred mare who is a bit overprotective and known to kick friendly folk (and not so friendly folk)
Whenever Hosea is really angry at Dutch (which doesn't happen too often and when he does he doesn't stay mad at him for long); Dutch gives him a wide berth (might be canon?), he's which is so difficult because he's clingy and needy but will not cross that invisible barrier (I want to write a chapter on this but trying to think of something that would create this scenario; there will be of course a cavity-inducing reunion)
Dutch loves kissing Hosea in public; doesn't matter if it's in Smith's Saloon or wherever he'll just give that old man a big ol smooch on the lips (Hosea secretly loves it though he'll at times act embarrassed but doesn't exactly push away from it) *
Dutch is big into using the star/sun/moon as directional compasses; but doesn't always follow a waypoint; it seems to be in his coding but in my head he's just pigheaded about them and views them as a mere suggestion, which has gotten him, Hosea and his boys into trouble *
Hosea is sometimes exasperated by his husband's neediness and clinginess and needs to reassure him when he does need to get some breathing space; he respects this and will go off on little misadventures with their sons or on his own, often winding up in some sort of trouble, often Valentine with his study subjects and buddies (I often don't bring Hosea around big groups of people esp in Valentine because of the potential of an incident but I have a feeling he's fine with that), but always comes back and gives that idiot a big ol cuddle when he comes back
Hosea CANNOT resist his husband's little gestures of appeasement; a hand squeeze, a kiss of his hand, tugging at his curls, and . . . Puppy eyes, which he weaponizes *
Hosea loves it when Dutch grabs his ass but always 'shoos' him and acts annoyed
Dutch can't get enough ass grab and will pout if he doesn't get another squeeze
Nose boops are a daily occurrence, including nose-to-boops which sometimes occasionally result in a bloody nose but are a bit safer than forehead boops which have more than occasion left Hosea seeing stars
They really do do it on Fridays, for the most part (I keep them too busy to have too much intimate time, my bad)
'Sea doesn't go on every bounty hunt (he takes this time to Collector inventory, general inventory, get some personal space (difficult to obtain at times) and other odds and ends) but does go on every Collector, Trading and Moonshine run
The boys don't visit Harriet often because someone not name Hosea keeps getting sprayed by her
Both will gift each other with random, sometimes useless things; like I don't think Hosea really needs a donkey but Dutch will get him one anyway for a laugh and Hose would so say he doesn't need three asses (;D) (meaningful gifts are given aplenty too)
Dutch doesn't like to be violent against other people's kids (NPCs that comment on his appearance though . . . ) even when they bully him because he doesn't want to disrupt his relation with these strange characters; he's honestly too friendly with them and he'll tip his hat to the ladies and blow kisses to the guys (fuelling jealousy in Hosea)
One of those useless things? 'Sea has ordered an expensive mirror from France (that isn't too practical out on the range but there you go) because he gets a kick out of watching his hubby check himself out and then acting like he wasn't checking himself out in the mirror)
Hosea has a dry sense of humour *
Dutch will laugh at his own jokes
They both will feed each other bits of food on a fork
Dutch is the one who usually spoons Hosea but 'Sea will also spoon him to shake things up
Nicknames? Hosea nicknames Dutch his Beautiful Idiot, the Mustached idiot (and just idiot), Babygirl, Duchess; Dutch calls Hosea 'Sea in addition to Old Girl * (he also calls him Silver Fox but have yet to include that in my fic; I'm thinking of more nicknames for him too!)
Dutch despises rain but Hosea will take this time to wait it out with him and often plays with hair and writes in his journal during these moments
Both are rather useless at the cowboy thing; one gets dragged through the mud, and the other will go on a slaughter spree for being bumped. Cripps will now and then put them up at a local hotel to give them some more privacy (and to spare him hearing things)
They are of course both deeply affectionate towards each other; kisses, hugs, cuddles, and touches aplenty are given to each other (they touch each other a lot in my story but I want to go deeper into what touch and where affects them both; for examples touches to the vulnerable regions symbolize trust)

Wilmon 44 & 45
44. What do they love about each other the most?
i think wille loves how simon understands him, or at least is open to understanding him, to the point that he's pretty much the only person around whom he can be himself, without simon judging him or expecting him to be "better" than he is (simon thinks he's more than good enough as he is). he loves simon's voice and musical talent, of course, and how he gives all of himself to help the people he loves, even to his own detriment. he loves how confident simon is, and how he doesn't take shit from anyone.
simon loves how earnest wille is. he loves that wille is the only person who will take care of him when he's running himself ragged trying to take care of everyone else. he loves how supportive wille is, whether over a choir solo or his political views. he loves that wille trusts his opinion even on situations outside his expertise, and trusts him to make his own decisions. he loves that he's the first person wille comes to for advice and comfort, even on matters unrelated to him, even though given his position in the social hierarchy, he doesn't need to involve simon at all-- but he still wants to.
("everything." that's the real answer to this question.)
45. How do they comfort each other when they are helpless to do anything about the situation?
so. let me get my nerd glasses on for a second. 8)
the concept of "love languages" is a very romantic notion but not really scientific at all. people are too complex and their personalities too plastic to reduce them to one or two ways of showing affection, and the research on this is pretty much inconclusive.
that said, fictional characters, especially ones with such limited canon as wille and simon have, are a bit easier to fit into a simple classification, and it can be fun to play with it. so i 10000% subscribe to the idea that wille's go-to (but not only!) form of showing affection is physical touch, and i think for simon it's an even combination of acts of service and words of affirmation. but they also have come to know the other, or at least the other's personality if not their life details, very well in the few months since they met in canon. so i think they have also come to know how to adapt to the other's needs regarding those love languages.
so basically, simon knows to give wille a hug or a caress when he needs support, on top of reassuring him with words. and wille knows to ask what simon needs, how he can help, and to show his support with actions on top of just offering physical comfort. it really is rather remarkable how we can already see this even in just the twelve episodes we've had in canon so far. and while the love languages might not be truly testable, reproducible, or falsifiable, it's fun to make such observations about fictional characters, in a "jane goodall studying chimpanzees in the wild" kind of way. ;)
(sorry this got so long. ask me about astrology next-- we'll be here for hours.)

I love that Lady Gaga and Jane Goodall intervened on behalf of good judgement. Too bad we can't say the same for Neil "This Note's For You" Young foisting Microsoft DRM on his fans, or Mellencamp suing that kid for posting his lyrics. Maybe sometimes The Team acts alone, but I'll wager just as often those being represented will hide behind their team to avoid culpability.

15-28
15. Perception × Curiosity = Perceptive Wanderlust Jane Goodall crouches in the Tanzanian forest, her eyes wide not just with scientific attention, but with reverence. Each gesture of the chimpanzees opens a new doorway into empathy and evolution. Half a century earlier, Claude Monet stares at the same lily pond morning after morning, chasing the ever-shifting light. He does not want to record the world—he wants to see it more deeply than before. And Dora the Explorer, backpack slung and map in hand, becomes a childhood parable for asking boldly, moving brightly, and narrating each step. Perceptive Wanderlust is the journey driven not by maps, but by questions. It is to walk through a world alive with detail, always half-open, always inviting closer look.16. Perception × Anxiety = Vigilant Awareness In a modest Tokyo apartment, the animator Satoshi Kon sketches layers of reality that blur and shift. His work warns gently, hauntingly—dreams slide into memory, and perception becomes a defense against confusion. In a different frame, Temple Grandin walks the perimeter of a livestock yard and notices what others miss: the flick of an ear, a shadow cast wrong, the ripple of unease. Clarice Starling, eyes wide but steady, steps toward the unspeakable, cataloging threat with precision. Vigilant Awareness does not flinch—it observes. It tunes anxiety into precision, catching what others overlook. It is the art of noticing what might go wrong before it does, and adjusting course in time.17. Perception × Synthesis = Clarity Forged from Tension In the carefully composed shots of Chloé Zhao’s films, contradictions breathe: stillness and movement, land and longing, grit and grace. Her camera does not choose sides—it listens to them. In courtrooms and classrooms, bell hooks names wounds and weaves theory from lived pain, her clarity earned through the effort of holding opposites without letting them destroy each other. And Barack Obama, standing at podiums split by ideology, weaves compromise into coherence, threading tension into vision. Clarity Forged from Tension is not the absence of conflict—it is its distillation into something truer. This pairing refuses to simplify. It sharpens instead. What results is a clarity that could not exist without friction.
18. Perception × Action = Attention with Consequence On a bridge in Selma, John Lewis watches the line of state troopers approach—and does not turn away. His awareness becomes movement. In a Baltimore hospital, Dr. Mona Hanna-Attisha sees lead levels in children rise and blows the whistle before the damage becomes fate. And Erin Brockovich, armed with files and fire, sees what no one wants to look at and pushes until the system bends. Attention with Consequence is not passive seeing—it is the gaze that demands a response. It is noticing paired with doing. It’s the difference between witnessing and intervening. When perception finds its spine, action is no longer optional—it becomes inevitable.
19. Will × Curiosity = Urgent Discovery Ada Lovelace fills the margins of a mechanical lecture with ideas no one has yet imagined. Her mind rushes past the gears into the abstract, each insight kindled by a fierce need to know. In a lab of exploding chemicals and questions, Mae Jemison trains her body for space while feeding her mind equations and Star Trek. And Peter Parker—yes, that Peter Parker—can’t stop asking questions, tinkering, pushing boundaries even when the risks climb with the stakes. Urgent Discovery is not idle inquiry—it is the pressure to ask and act at once. It seeks not just answers, but propulsion. The question burns, and the pursuit is liftoff.
20. Will × Anxiety = Pressure Toward Precision In a dimly lit war room, a team of engineers at NASA works against the clock, their voices calm but clipped. Every action must be correct the first time. This is Apollo 13, and failure is not theoretical—it is orbiting Earth. Across history, architect Zaha Hadid defies critics and rejections, channeling doubt into detail. Every line bends with intention. Tom Hanks, again and again onscreen, becomes the man who steadies the wheel—calm in the storm, precise because the moment demands it. Pressure Toward Precision is not panic. It is urgency refined into method. The fear does not paralyze—it focuses. It demands that the work be clean, or the cost be too great.
21. Will × Synthesis = Focused Becoming In a sun-drenched studio, Georgia O’Keeffe blends bone and bloom, desert and dream. Her brush does not meander—it clarifies. Each composition sharpens something interior into visibility. Across centuries, Siddhartha Gautama sits beneath a bodhi tree, still but not passive, focused on distilling multiplicity into awakening. And Captain Jean-Luc Picard, gazing out from the bridge of the Enterprise, balances diplomacy and danger with the kind of inner coherence earned only through layered decision. Focused Becoming is not ambition. It is refinement toward essence. It draws together many threads, not to display them, but to shape a form that can hold them all. Becoming, here, is not expansion but precision in integration.
22. Will × Action = Decisive Becoming In a crowded courtroom in Montgomery, Rosa Parks does not rise. Her act is not spontaneous—it is chosen, distilled from years of watching, feeling, waiting. In a boxing ring, Muhammad Ali steps forward not just with fists but with full consciousness of what each punch declares. And Captain America, fictional but culturally charged, tightens his shield and declares, “I can do this all day.” Decisive Becoming is not merely action—it is action sharpened by intent. It is the difference between movement and change. This is the moment when decision meets destiny, not with hesitation, but with the calm of having already arrived.
23. Curiosity × Anxiety = Tense Inquiry On a chalk-stained desk, Franz Kafka scratches at the margins of law and shame, turning questions into labyrinths. His writing aches with uncertainty, propelled by it. Elsewhere, investigative journalist Ida B. Wells presses into danger, documenting lynchings with trembling, righteous precision. And in every detective drama worth its salt, it’s the question that keeps them up at night—the fear not of being wrong, but of missing what matters. Tense Inquiry is the act of asking while already afraid of the answer. It is curiosity unwilling to rest, and anxiety unwilling to stay silent. Together they chase the truth, even when it hurts.
24. Curiosity × Synthesis = Coherent Exploration Carl Sagan lifts his eyes to the stars and speaks of billions, but connects them to the single breath of a child on Earth. Exploration, for him, is not distance but connection. In another medium, Ursula K. Le Guin stitches anthropology into fantasy, threading questions into narrative worlds that feel whole. And Indiana Jones, whip in hand and journal packed tight, merges history with action, myth with artifact. Coherent Exploration does not wander aimlessly. It braids paths. It makes curiosity sustainable by making meaning as it goes.
25. Curiosity × Action = Curiosity Embodied In a workshop brimming with cardboard, Makey Makey kits, and possibilities, a child builds a banana piano. Joy erupts not from theory but from touch. In a Nairobi lab, Wangari Maathai plants trees not just as an ecological act, but as a question: What else can grow here? And Ms. Frizzle, cartoon avatar of boundless kinetic learning, shouts “Take chances, make mistakes, get messy!” as the magic school bus veers into the unknown. Curiosity Embodied does not wait for answers—it prototypes them. It moves while asking. It learns by becoming the question.
26. Anxiety × Synthesis = The Edge of Control Onstage, Nina Simone plays the piano like it’s her pulse. She sings as if the next breath might burn. Every note a negotiation between control and eruption. Meanwhile, Alan Watts speaks calmly of chaos, finding form in the swirl. And Robin Williams, bright and trembling, spins wonder and warning in the same breath. The Edge of Control does not resolve tension—it rides it. It laughs, it trembles, it balances just long enough to create something incandescent.
27. Anxiety × Action = Action from Fear The sirens wail. Someone runs toward the wreckage, not because they’re fearless, but because they’re not. Harriet Tubman moves under the cover of night, fear ever-present, yet direction unwavering. And Frodo Baggins, knees buckling under the weight of the ring, keeps walking anyway. Action from Fear does not wait for courage. It moves while afraid. It learns that fear is not the opposite of action—it is sometimes its fuel.
28. Synthesis × Action = Embodied Unity Bruce Lee flows from stance to stance, not locked in tradition but shaped by it. His philosophy is not separation—it is absorption. On another floor, Martha Graham turns breath into movement, her choreography stitching psyche to body. And T’Challa, the Black Panther, becomes sovereign not just through strength but through balance—ritual, invention, grace. Embodied Unity is not abstract—it is lived. It is the fusion of knowing and doing, of meaning and motion. Wholeness, not as theory, but as rhythm in the blood.
