Nightmares - Janae Watson (Fluff)
Tumblr media
PAIRING: Janae Watson X Reader

| Janae Watson X Reader fluff, where they are absolute cuties!!
Since arriving a Litchfield, you just couldn’t sleep. Never truly being able to get some red, and, when you did eventually doze off, your mind was flooded with images you thought you’d forgotten, and you were awake as quick as you weren’t.
Tonight, though, was worse than usual. Having not slept an hour the night before, you were exhausted, not tired, mentally (and physically) drained. You felt like a little girl, wanting to be back at home, in your mom’s arms or even your own bed. You wanted the comfort of your mom again - or even another person.
Wrapped in these thoughts, you were just upsetting yourself, but not daring to cry in fear of waking someone else up.
You hadn’t known how much time had passed, as you attempted to sooth yourself, sitting up on your bed with your knees to your chest, staring out into the walkway. If you could, you’d wrap your blanket around you, put your head on your knees and try sleep again here, but you knew it was fruitless, so just sat there, unmoving.
That was, of course, until you heard a noise from the cube beside you. Beside you was Poussey and Janae - there were many nights, similar to you, Poussey got trapped in a bad dream, and you being up, resulted in being the one to pull her out of it.
So you waited, listening for another noise before standing up and making your way to the cube over.
You were surprised, though, finding the person with the nightmare not to be Poussey, but to be Janae - who was laying, asleep with an expression of discomfort, occasionally moving around her bed frame.
You quickly found yourself beside her, crouching ok the floor as you held her shoulder and shook it, “Janae?.. J, hey, wake up.”
This didn’t work, though, as you tried again, and again, a film of sweat now covering her skin as you placed your hand to her cold forehead. So, you left it there, occasionally running your hand soothingly down her face until her eyes began to open.
“Y/n?” She asked, obviously confused as she began to sit up, looking around in the darkness.
“Sorry,” you muttered, taking your hand away and bringing it back to your side, “I heard you and wanted to make sure you were okay.”
Janae nodded, staring at you thoughtfully before speaking again, “will you… stay with me?”
This caught you by surprise, but you nodded, taking a place beside her as she rested her head on your tank-top covered chest.
You felt warm, and hoped she couldn’t hear the pounding of your heart, however, within minutes, your eyelids began to feel heavy, feeling yourself drifting off to sleep.
The next morning, you found yourself in your own bed, being “woken up” by Janae who told you the guards will be coming around soon, with a smile on her face.
You smiled too.

Ya know what's hard? Being in love with a character. Like I'll love her in my head but I have to live with the knowledge that I'll never actually be able to really love her. Because she doesn't even exist in this reality.

Hija!! Do yk which of the guys had the most characters with sad, tragic or bad endings? Asking for an edit >:))
Hmmmm I’m not sure! It’s pretty even I think? Idk let’s see :D
SFTH SPOILERS BELOW (also long-ish post so be aware of that I guess)
All of them have a kind of messed up time in habberdashery (Luke’s child character not the wife) (Tom wasn’t there though)
Lost in your eyes Tom and Sam have a tragic love story
Long John’s I haven’t watched in a little bit but Luke killing his brother (I think) was pretty messed up, Tom’s character dies and AJ holds him as he does.
Jockey is VERY messed up, Sam’s probably the one with the most tragic stuff.
AJ’s character in hare says she’s had a tough life, then Jimmy the Hare dies in her arms
Midnight mystery ends with Scottish Batman being in the middle of dying (I think) and Robin like kills someone or something??? The ending confuses me a little
Cube has Bubba and Jeremiah which like, Bubba loses his legs and Jeremiah has to deal with that, then yk, Jeremiah DIES in Bubbas ARMS and everything, so those two (I could ramble about Bubbamiah for the rest of this post but I won’t lol)
Bus is kinda tragic with the whole thing of Arthur BD getting imprisoned inside the vagina cage (…yeah. that’s a Sentence alright.) and then dying from the acidity
NIGEL IS SOOOOO MESSED UP AND I LOVE IT Andrew being imprisoned and his uncle not even caring or looking for him for two weeks!? Nigel getting him hooked on cocaine (and also doing whatever he did consensually with Andrew tied to the chair- even if it was consensual it might have been the drugs or the Stockholm syndrome… which is REALLY dark.)
Caravan has Jericho (Tom) who is terminally ill and dying of some disease and he has dreams of being an actor and then gets replaced with no remorse.
Stegosaurus is SOOOOO dark and i think that Chip and Cliff could both be said to have tragic backstories- even that French guy actually if you look at it from his point of view. So Sam and Tom, and AJ as chip if you include that part as well.
Lefternmost window is kind of dark but not really tragic, cause it’s all resolved in the end but you could say Tom’s Scottish character who was shot in the throat maybe
Neighbours you could argue it’s tragic for every character, really. Johnny and Janae mostly, though Annabelle dies and idk if she did much wrong. Definetly Johnny and Janae.
Milkman you can say Peter, Toby (the boy in the room) and The other kid (AJ) and also probably Mr Steven, plus Hank (the Texan bartender) all of them have pretty tragic stuff happen.
Beetroots Sam is pretty tragic, all of the stuff that happens in that. Justin’s parents died in a fire so maybe also him.
The evil make a wish kid you could say Luke’s character as the father, cause, well, his son is evil and also died and kills his mother. (And blew up every petting zoo in the entire world)
Priscilla is pretty dark too so probably Priscilla, she goes through a lot
Circus you could definitely say Watson, he kills a bunch of people cause he’s in love with Sherlock and goes crazy and becomes a creepy clown (hi if you’re reading this and don’t know the fandom, welcome! Everything is so normal)
Murders in space would definitely be Mary, with working on the whole time penetration/dilution thing her whole life only to have to fade away to save the world.
I’d need to rewatch Hugh and moist and magical for the specifics but characters from those two are not having a good time
JIMMY DOESNT KNOW HOW TO USE A DOOR AND NO ONE WILL SHOW HIM (also Clancy did doohicky’s wife but who cares about that when there’s Jimmy)
Alexa and Janusz from Ballet are both pretty tragic but again I’d probably need to rewatch it to have more details
OK SO
adding all of this up here’s an extremely rough tally just based on this
AJ llllllll (8)
Luke llllllll (8)
Sam llllllllllll (12)
Tom llllllllll (11)
So Sam, but Tom’s close (although I think Sam has more like main characters?? But I’m not sure)
I hope this helps!!! :D can’t wait to see the edit if you make one

Generation 1 (Year 1)
As the sun continued its relentless surveillance over the suspiciously idyllic town, Jana celebrated her first anniversary of survival. Having ascended the precarious ladder of the Science Career to the dizzying heights of a Genetic Resequencer, Jana’s life was proceeding at a pace befitting her ambitions. Her literary endeavors, a quartet of science fiction novels titled "Solarpunk 2000" through "Solarpunk 2003," took the world by storm — or at least a moderately strong breeze, considering two of them became bestsellers.
Tumblr media
In a move that could only be described as aggressively optimistic, Jana invested a significant chunk of her early earnings into erecting a greenhouse adjacent to her once-shed-now-somewhat-less-of-a-shed abode. This decision proved to be a masterstroke when the first winter hit with the subtlety of an airhorn at a sign language convention. Against all odds, her home-grown produce flourished, and soon most of Sunset Valley was unwittingly participating in the Jana Hazard Diet. Still, she found herself facing a problem: she hadn't made a single human friend. This wasn't for lack of trying, mind you. An attempt to befriend her boss was abruptly curtailed when a meteor, perhaps offended by the lack of invitation to the workplace, decided to make a dramatic entrance, thereby making her boss an ex-boss in the most literal sense possible. After that, Jana adopted a policy of cautious neutrality towards her new coworkers.
Tumblr media
Jana's only companion became a stray dog she named Martini, because "she's a bit of a mix, and always seems to stir things up." Martini quickly became the Watson to her Holmes, if Holmes was a genetic resequencer with a penchant for agriculture and Watson a dog with a curious appetite for anything that wasn’t nailed down.
Tumblr media
Jana's humble living quarters saw a transformation. The kitchen and bathroom were remodeled, moving them from "Oh dear" to "Well, this is alright." In spite of her successes, however, she would celebrate her birthday as she'd spent all her previous birthdays: Alone. Instead of taking to the streets in search of a friend or partner, however, she let her ambition carry her yet further. Perhaps a bit too impulsively, she filled out the Sims University Aptitude Test and found she was at least eligible for a partial scholarship. Given that she'd already ascended to the rank of Genetic Researcher with little more than a high school diploma, going back to school might not actually help her further her career by much, but it may at least halt the ever-encroaching passage of time.

'LONG before Cillian Murphy there was Sam Waterston, and long before Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer there was Peter Goodchild’s Oppenheimer (BBC4, Friday), which is being reshown for the first time in decades.
Goodchild, who was interviewed by Variety last month to coincide with the film’s release, started his BBC producing career in radio drama and later moved to television with the science documentary series Horizon.
When Horizon diversified into science docudramas in the 1970s, Goodchild, who holds a chemistry degree, got to combine his two interests in a successful series about Marie Curie.
It was his idea to make a seven-part miniseries about J Robert Oppenheimer, the father of the atomic bomb, played by Waterston. First shown on BBC2 in 1980, Oppenheimer was a big hit with viewers and critics, winning three Bafta awards. It also garnered Emmy and Golden Globe nominations after it was shown on PBS in the United States.
The budget of £1.5m (about €7.5m today) – 90pc of it coming from the BBC, the rest from WGBH Boston – might seem like a grain of New Mexico sand compared with the £100m price tag of Nolan’s Imax epic.
Back then, however, it was a huge spend for a British drama.
A huge physical production, too, with scrupulous attention to detail. For maximum authenticity, Goodchild, now 83, told Variety, the Manhattan Project’s Los Alamos Laboratory was recreated on a purpose-built set in Colorado Springs, complete with water tower and replica bomb.
The supporting cast was made up almost entirely of American actors based in Britain.
Two notable exceptions were future Poirot star David Suchet as the excitable, voluble Hungarian physicist Edward Teller and Edward Hardwicke (Dr Watson to Jeremy Brett’s Sherlock Holmes) as his Italian colleague Enrico Fermi.
Viewers who have grown used to watching even modestly budgeted dramas shot on HD video that mimics celluloid film may find the switch from Oppenheimer’s interior scenes, which were mostly shot on videotape in a studio in the UK, to the ones shot on film in America a little jarring at first.
But the story is so engrossing you cease to be aware of the contrast after a while.
What’s remarkable is how well Oppenheimer, which was written by Peter Prince and directed by Barry Davis, holds up 43 years later.
There’s none of the slowness or staginess you sometimes see in dramas from the period. Friday’s opening two episodes positively zipped by.
They spanned the years 1938, when Oppenheimer was at the University of Berkley, to 1942, when Lieutenant General Leslie Groves (Manning Redwood), ignoring warnings about Oppenheimer’s long associations with active communists and championing of left-wing causes, put him in charge of the Manhattan Project, which was to be housed in a high-security facility in Los Alamos.
Waterston, just four years ahead of his best actor Oscar nomination for playing Siydney Schanberg in The Killing Fields, is fantastic as Oppenheimer.
You can see why the BBC was prepared to pay him well above the normal rate for appearing in one of its dramas and to put him up in a luxury hotel during filming.
He conveys Oppenheimer’s charisma, intelligence, brilliance and charm, especially to women.
But we also see his ruthlessness and arrogance.
When we meet him, he’s romantically involved with psychiatrist and communist Jean Tatlock (Kate Harper), who suffered from clinical depression (she died by suicide in 1944), yet thinks nothing of casting her aside when he sets eyes on his future wife Kitty Puening (Jana Shelden), who at that time is married to someone else.
They tumble into an affair. In one particularly cruel moment, he humiliates Jean by turning up at a dinner party at her home with Kitty on his arm.
Even at this stage, the seeds of Oppenheimer’s downfall are being sown. Naively unconcerned about the dangers of having communist friends, he doesn’t realise he’s already under FBI surveillance.
A terrific drama from a far more creative age of TV.'

New Release From John Frusciante Just Announced.I:&ii. Releasing Feb. 2023
Tumblr media
By John:
After a year and a half writing and recording rock music, I needed to clear my head. I listened to and made music where things generally happen gradually rather than suddenly. I would set up patches on a Monomachine or Analog Four and listen to them, hearing one sound morph into others, making changes to a patch only after having listened for quite a while, gradually adding elements, and finally manipulating the sounds on the fly. All tracks were recorded live to CD burner, with no overdubs, and executed on one or two machines.
While I was almost exclusively listening to artists such as Chris Watson, Peter Rehberg, Bernard Parmegiani, CM Von Hausswolff, Jana Winderen, Oren Ambarchi, Hazard, Bruce Gilbert, Klara Lewis, Ryoji Ikeda, and so on, I was also inspired by my mental image of John Lennon’s tape and mellotron experiments he made at home during his time in the Beatles, as well as events like the first minute of Bowie’s Station To Station, ...And The Gods Made Love by Jimi Hendrix, the synths in the song Mass Production by Iggy Pop, and the general idea of Eno’s initial concept of Ambient music.
Music being a solitary sculpture in sonic space was the main motivating thought. I was looking at pictures of sculptures and trying to make music that simultaneously conveyed both movement and stillness. I refrained from sudden musical changes, especially avoiding sequences of notes and rhythms. In fact, this music was made from sequences which never exceed a single note, many of these pieces being made on a single pattern. The movement which a good sculptor conveys when the shape of his medium meets the eyes of the viewer who walks around the piece, or the sun changes its position, are the kinds of movement which it was the role of the synth patches to communicate. I was using sound to create what I saw as being a physical structure.
I’ve been listening to music like this since I was 13 or so, but I felt that making it was out of my reach because of the amount of restraint I imagined it required. Once I found myself making this music, it did not feel like a matter of restraint at all. I wanted to build a certain type of building, and hear certain types of movement, and I knew when it was complete. There was no place for sequences of notes and rhythms in my plans.
I also cannot overstate the role that being in my band played. I had previously spent 12 years programming and engineering my own music, and then spent a year and a half making music where my role was basically to write songs and play guitar. When the band's recording phase was completed, I needed to go back to my adopted language. I had done enough with chords, rhythms, notes, defined sections, sharp transitions, etc.. What I needed was to create music from the ground up with nothing but sound, and have that music reflect “being” rather than “doing”. It was a therapeutic way of re-balancing myself, before and during my band’s mixing process.
This music seeks to just exist, and is not attempting to manipulate or grab the listener in any way. I believe it works well if one listens loud and focuses on it, but also works well at soft volumes and in the background. It can compete with silence on silence’s own terms, and it can also happily wipe silence out.
There are two versions of this album. The digital/CD version is called : I I . (pronounced “two”). This is the longer version. The vinyl version is called . I : (pronounced “one”), and is shorter, but contains one vinyl-only track. The reason the vinyl is shorter is that some of the tracks have sounds that can not be pressed on vinyl.
