Hello, thank you so much for reaching out! It's ironic you asked this because I just posted a new chapter to my Tom x Hermione series today. My goal is to finish my current WIP in that series: The Lost Witch, and then I'm planning to shift back focus on returning to ADSM! All of you have been waiting for so long for both series, but especially ADSM. October 2023 Wrap Up

We did it, Joe. We finally fucking caught up. I know I'm being ridiculous and these monthly wrap up posts don't really matter to anyone but me, but I actually could not proceed without doing them. Could not dive into my waiting pile of fanfic without coming back to do these. It's been weighing on me all fucking year and now, with two months left, I am finally at peace. Thank fuck, because this has taken me a truly ungodly amount of hours. Like over a full day of work. And I'm feeling a bit like a feral racoon, if I'm being honest.

Wow, I hope that I did okay with this one! It definitely was a bit of a struggle for me! Lots of components all coming together...I hope in a somewhat reasonable way.

The 31st of October 1981 had been life changing for James Potter. He'd been betrayed by his friend, he'd almost lost his life protecting his toddler son, and he'd somehow been branded the savior of the wizarding world for putting an end to Voldemort.

Truth was, he didn't really remember anything that had happened that night and he'd give up all the fame and lavish praise if it just meant that Lily would return to her usual self.

He'd almost lost Lily that night, too.

Or maybe he had lost Lily.

Because when she woke up in St. Mungo's a week after stepping in front of a Killing Curse meant for their son, she'd changed. She told him that she wasn't really Lily Evans, but a completely different witch he'd never heard of before, who'd sacrificed herself to protect her friend in some far distant future that James hoped would never come to pass.

It was no secret that she was no longer the girl that he'd loved at Hogwarts or even the woman he'd loved once they were married. But, he would take this scared, anxious, wary creature home with him because he'd promised that he'd love her in sickness and in health.

Hermione -- as she insisted she be called -- was somewhat prickly towards him. James couldn't count the number of times that he'd been yelled at for forgetting himself and giving her an affectionate squeeze or kiss. She didn't think that his jokes were funny -- and not just in the way that Lily pretended not to. She was vicious in a way that Lily never had been, wearing a fierce sort of smile when she heard about this person or that being sentenced to Azkaban.

A small part of him clung to the hope that his Lily might be returned to him some day. He might have given up long ago if he didn't see the way that she was with Harry.

She doted on their boy the same way that she always had.

The following Halloween, James had not really wanted to do anything to call attention to the day. Sensing that, Hermione had suggested that they go out trick-or-treating, a Muggle tradition that Lily had often talked about. Surprisingly, he found himself agreeing with it.

Harry was pleased to go as a little ghost and convinced Sirius to go with him as Padfoot. Hermione hadn't told him what she was going to wear, but he was surprised when she walked down the stairs, red hair plaited neatly down her back, with a witch's hat on top of her head and a cloak around her shoulders.

"A witch? Really?" he teased with a laugh. "That seems a little low effort for you."

He expected the joke to fall flat, the way that all of his jokes seemed to these days -- that her face would remain unmoved until she engaged with Harry. James never expected to see the corners of her lips turn up, fighting back a smile.

"I could say the same thing about you," she countered with a smirk. "Are you just going as a wizard?"

James was nearly stunned into silence, but cracked a smile nonetheless. "What, you don't recognize me?" he asked. "I'm going as Merlin!"

Hermione could not stop the smile that time. "That has to be the worst Merlin costume I've ever seen," she countered. "I know that you've gotten an O in History of Magic, Potter. I expect better of you."

He felt his heart skip a beat at the way she said his name. It wasn't like Lily used to -- it was different. But he loved it all the same.

He fell into step next to her, following an enthusiastic toddler and giant black dog out the front door. He pressed his shoulder into her's as they walked side by side. "Did I enter an alternate universe or did you really just smile at me?"

Hi, yes, A Darkly Slanted Mirror has been on my radar again as the year comes to a close (and yet another year when I haven't managed to finish one of my first fics!). I actually started revisiting my outline for the final part I need to finish and am making notes. But first, I'm focusing on finishing the second part of my ongoing Killing Me Softly (Tomione) series. Once I finish that, I plan to start updating and finishing ADSM. I'm going to finish this before I dive into Part 3 of KMS to hopefully keep myself on track. Now that I have kids it takes me twice as long to finish anything it seems, but I'm writing a little every day, so we'll hopefully get there within this coming year! Thanks so much for hanging in there with me meanwhile :)

Okay, but why did you choose a bowl of ice cream as the picture? Because this scene WRECKED me. It was so integral and important, but it was just such a heartwrenching moment. Specifically this moment:

Hermione reached out, looking at Harry's hands. "I'm sorry," she whispered, more to James than Harry. "I didn't mean to scare him or to—"

Angry and guilty, James shifted Harry to his other arm, pulling him further away from the witch. "Can you just . . . can you let me take care of my own kid, Hermione?" he snapped and then turned away, following Molly into the house.

AHHHHH! Like it still kills me. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING STORY!!
