Juneau was and was not kidding all at once. She was sure Jamie was braver than her in some ways and feared things she would find laughable. The reverse was probably true, too, but she was more eager to move on with the evening than pick apart their psyches like a couple of vultures. Silently, she watched as Jamie turned his back to her and continued down the beaten path toward their eventual destination. She had little difficulty spotting the small parcel he retrieved from his pocket and her fingers twitched with a sudden curious anticipation. It wasn’t so hard to garner and maintain Juneau’s attention if one knew how to play their cards right. She picked up the pace and trotted toward him, her gaze poised on the velvet bag in his pale hand. Juneau had learned about being over-eager from Ivar in the past though, her hand slapped away one or two or a hundred times too many for her to reach for it outright despite the fact that Jamie had just told her it was hers. She would wait until he handed it to her directly out of fear she might stoke his ire and impatience with her like she always had with Ivar in so many familiar settings. "What is it?"

There, they'd dug just a bit deeper and neither of them had to have a heart to heart again and that meant the conversation was a win in his book. "As are ye." He thinks she's kidding, but he also doesn't think she's being completely unserious. That was something just a part of her charm. "Right, so," Turning around and continuing down the path, he pulled a small black velvet bag out of the inside of his jacket pocket. "I got something fer ye, by the way." Jamie calls over his shoulder, grinning to himself because he couldn't quite wait on the secret anymore. He'd planned to give it to her when they made camp, but maybe they wouldn't run into anymore emotional conversations if they had something to distract them.
