After I read your most recent chapter, I realized I wanted to know if you had a face in mind when you wrote Nellie (because obviously we know what the Commodore looks like).

!!! I'm very flattered by the question!

Yes and no - I have a few descriptors in there: Nellie Treat is notably short (possibly comically short, as in "the longer I've been writing this the shorter I've imagined her, for comedic purposes/descriptive contrast with James Norrington"), and has dark hair and wide-set eyes - but I didn't really start out with a set imagination of how she looked?

The closest thing I have to a true fan cast/face claim is that @jamesnorrington DID make a wonderful gifset for Customs and Duties, with Mia Wasikowska as Nellie. I do think that Mia Wasikowska is (while too tall, and usually blonde!) pretty close to my imagination of her!

I do wonder (more than I ought to) how other people imagine her - may I ask who you imagined that Nellie looked like?

Yeah, the shorter episode trend is a bit weird... because usually good scenes end up on the outtakes so surely they weren't short of material. On the website I stream from the uploaded version of old lady house is 20:16, wolf cola is 18:42 (to be exact, I just checked).

yeah i checked it out last night myself! it’s so.... bizarre. at first i wondered if this was a trend that’s been going on for awhile now but i just checked out my copies of s11 and most of the episodes are at LEAST 21 minutes with some of them as long as 25 minutes? like the shortest one is being frank and that’s DEFINITELY an outlier (i have it at 17:51)

i’m just.... wondering if it was a conscious decision to push for shorter episodes this time around? i’m thinking of possible reasons they’d do that. i can’t think of anything besides “they wanna make sure the Big Episodes have more impact so they’re making the other ones shorter in comparison” or “they’re making them shorter because we’re all losing our attention spans in 2017″ but..... neither of those seem very convincing to me

✨️ Out of the comments you’ve received on your fics, what are two or three of your favorites?

@cicadaemon once said "if someone told me you were a writer for M.ercy Street I'd believe them." which compliment I am still thinking slightly weepily about, years later, and @fericita-s told me a different fic for the same show "felt exactly like an episode" - which also truly is the highest compliment I can think of. I don't tend to get very far into alternate universes, mostly 'missing scenes' and 'canon, but three inches to the left' - it's nice when I achieve what I've set out to!

👻 What is your wildest headcanon?

Honestly, I'm not very imaginative with headcanons - I wish I was, but as a fic-writer I tend to hew pretty close to what the text gives me. If you swap out "wildest" for "nothing in canon contradicts this, but it's thematically in line with the character and it's technically possible if i'm jamming canon and The Real World together", I'm fond of my "Elizabeth Swann is the great-granddaughter (via her late mother) of Nell Gwyn and Charles II" headcanon, which adds nothing to the base text or my interpretation of the character. It just amuses me!

🚦What sort of endings do you prefer to write: ambiguous, bad, happily ever after, etc.?

ambiguous-leaning-towards-good, I think? I'm equally bad at sticking the landing with tragedies and happily-ever-afters; I like a gentle sort of "they'll probably do as well as they can", if that makes any sense? Sometimes that's bleak, and sometimes it's hopeful.

🎨 If someone were to make fanart of your work, what fic or scene would you hope to see?

I've been very, very lucky that @fericita-s made a wonderfully evocative moodboard and @jamesnorrington made a spectacular gifset for the fic-that-was-supposed-to-be-a-short-austen-pastiche-joke-but-is-an-ongoing-monster, Customs and Duties.

Suffer a Sea Change is still one of my favorite things I've ever written, for all that it (I'm sensing a theme here) doesn't deviate very much from canon scenes in C.urse of the Black Pearl; I'd probably die very gracelessly if anyone drew that last scene/non-conversation between Norrington, Jack, and Elizabeth.
